The fatal shooting of a woman inside an ATM booth in Karachi’s Paposh Nagar area has been captured on CCTV cameras, a private media outlet reported.

According to investigators, the suspect, a security guard, allegedly lured the woman to the ATM on the pretext of handing her money. The footage shows the woman walking towards the booth, where the suspect was already present.

Police said the guard had asked her to meet him there, claiming he would give her cash. As soon as she entered the ATM enclosure, he allegedly opened fire, injuring her.

FIA foils human trafficking attempt, rescues woman at Karachi airport

The immigration wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has offloaded three passengers from a United Arab Emirates (UAE)-bound flight at the Jinnah International Airport, preventing an attempt to traffic a woman for sexual exploitation.

According to an FIA spokesperson, the operation uncovered an organised network involved in human smuggling and sexual exploitation. The passengers included the victim, identified as Sumaira, and two suspected traffickers, namely Nosheen Ishaq and her husband Jamshed Iqbal, who were attempting to take the victim to the UAE.

Following the victim’s identification, two additional facilitators, Asim and Noman, were also taken into custody.

The FIA said the victim had been recruited by a woman named Shamila through Facebook and WhatsApp, where she was lured with the promise of a monthly salary of Rs150,000.

Shamila, along with Nosheen and Jamshed, allegedly arranged the victim’s travel to the UAE and had previously sent several women abroad under similar circumstances.

During a raid at Shamila’s flat in Karachi’s Azam, officials recovered mobile phones containing WhatsApp conversations, photographs and records of financial transactions.

Investigators said Asim and Noman provided logistical assistance, including travel arrangements and transportation.

All suspects have been handed over to the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Karachi for further probe.

  • Taxila police register FIR against ‘jinns’

Taxila police register FIR against ‘jinns’

Police in Taxila have registered a highly unusual First Information Report (FIR) in a child abduction case, naming jinns as the alleged kidnappers, triggering confusion and criticism.

The case has drawn attention for its bizarre nature, with observers questioning how supernatural entities could be accused in a criminal investigation. Legal experts and citizens have raised concerns over the implications for policing standards and the credibility of legal procedures.

“Even if the child is recovered, how will the accused be produced before court?” legal expert Raja Tahir questioned.

Police later clarified that the complaint stemmed from the child’s father’s strong belief in supernatural explanations. Officials said his superstitious views shaped the narrative of the report, giving it the tone of a paranormal account.

They stressed that the FIR was registered to formally document the complaint rather than endorse the claim of jinn involvement. According to the police, the unusual wording reflected the complainant’s beliefs rather than an official investigative conclusion.

  • Police arrest key suspect in Rs1 billion Ichhra gold fraud case

Police arrest key suspect in Rs1 billion Ichhra gold fraud case

Police have arrested jeweller Waseem Akhtar, the prime suspect in Lahore’s Rs1 billion gold fraud case, from Islamabad and shifted him to an undisclosed location.

Reports quoted officials as saying that a police team had been stationed in Islamabad for nearly 10 days before receiving a tip-off about whereabouts of Akhtar, who was wanted in multiple FIRs filed by fellow jewellers and his stepmother in connection with the Ichhra Bazaar gold fraud.

The case surfaced in December 2025 when Akhtar, former president of the Ichhra Jewellers Association, allegedly disappeared with 20kg of gold worth over Rs1 billion that traders had entrusted to him for decades.

When jewellers visited his shop, they found lockers unlocked and empty.

Police officials told a private media outlet that Akhtar frequently changed his location before being tracked down along with his wife. They added that Lahore Police wanted to conduct interrogation discreetly to maximise recovery of the stolen gold, but secrecy was compromised when Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz announced the arrest on social media.

Authorities noted that charges in the FIRs may not reflect the scale of the alleged crime, prompting investigators to pursue what they described as a “traditional” interrogation approach without immediately recording the arrest.

Reports suggest Akhtar had already sold his house, cars and possibly much of the gold.

Among the victims was jeweller Ahmad Siddiqui, who told police he had handed over ornaments worth Rs25 million to Akhtar. Another FIR was lodged by his stepmother, who claimed she had given him 2.5kg of gold.

The investigation wing later confirmed Akhtar’s arrest in a statement, saying he was nominated in multiple FIRs and that further inquiries were underway.

SHO, police officials face investigation for sexual assault of minor girl

Authorities in Jacobabad are investigating allegations that seven police officials, including the Station House Officer (SHO), sexually assaulted a minor girl.

A woman claimed that the SHO, the head clerk, and five other police officials raped her granddaughter.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has taken notice of the case and asked the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to submit a report.

An investigation team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Thul, has been formed to look into the allegations.

This case comes to the light shortly after another incident in Karachi. In the Gulshan-e-Maymar area, a 17-year-old girl was kidnapped and gang-raped, police said. The victim, who works as a domestic help, told a private media outlet that “some influential men abducted her and took her to an unknown location, where they subjected her to sexual and physical assault.”

She added that when she and her family went to the police station to lodge a complaint, the SHO initially refused to register the First Information Report (FIR).
