  • Police suspect ‘honour killing’ after four bodies recovered from Karachi manhole

Police suspect ‘honour killing’ after four bodies recovered from Karachi manhole

Karachi Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed confirmed on Saturday that four decomposed bodies discovered in a pit on Mai Kolachi Road the previous night showed multiple signs of assault and torture.

Police found the bodies of two males and two females in a bushy area within the limits of the Docks police station on Friday. The victims ranged in age from 10 to 40 years, while investigators believe the bodies are four to five days old.

Authorities took the corpses to Civil Hospital, where officials completed medico-legal formalities late Friday night.

Dr Summaiya detailed the injuries found on each victim. A boy aged between 13 to 14-years-old had sustained multiple injuries to his head, face and neck. Another boy, around age 10, sustained injuries to his throat.

A girl aged between 14 to 15 also suffered multiple injuries to her head, face and neck. The fourth victim, a woman around 40-years-old, had evidence of injuries to her skull.

South Deputy Inspector General Syed Asad Raza told a media outlet that authorities have not yet confirmed the identities of the victims. Police moved the bodies to an Edhi morgue for identification.

He said there was no CCTV footage from the area where investigators discovered the bodies.

Police have not registered a First Information Report (FIR) so far as investigators wait for relatives to approach them to identify and claim the bodies. If no one comes forward, authorities will register an FIR on behalf of the state, Raza added.

The DIG said the victims’ injuries appear to have come from an axe or a sharp-edged weapon. However, he noted that the exact cause of death will only become clear once officials finalise the autopsy report.

Raza suggested that since three of the victims appear to be children and the fourth a woman in her 40s, they may all belong to the same family.

“So the gruesome killing may be linked with so-called ‘honour killings’,” he said.

Father of eight shot dead by police officer in Larkana

A police officer shot dead a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) worker and father of eight in public in Larkana district, authorities said, prompting the arrest of the officer.

The victim was identified as Ali Gohar Kalhoro, a farmer from Qambar Shahdadkot.

According to police, Kalhoro was riding a motorcycle when officer Arz Muhammad Jatoi opened fire at close range. Eyewitnesses said the victim folded his hands and pleaded for forgiveness, but the officer continued firing.

Police said the incident took place on the day of Benazir Bhutto’s death anniversary and added that the officer’s brother also arrived at the scene and opened fire in public.

Following the shooting, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Larkana ordered the immediate arrest of the officer. Police confirmed that Arz Muhammad Jatoi had been taken into custody and dismissed from service.

  • Court rejects bail of man accused of luring, raping woman on pretext of issuing credit card in Karachi

Court rejects bail of man accused of luring, raping woman on pretext of issuing credit card in Karachi

A court in Karachi has rejected the bail plea of one Mehroz, who was accused of sexually assaulting a woman after luring her under the pretext of issuing a credit card.

As per the details, Advocate Qambar Abbas, who was representing the victim, told the court that the accomplice of the accused remained at large and continued to threaten the woman.

He argued that granting bail could affect the investigation and influence witnesses.

“The accused’s accomplice is still at large and is actively threatening the victim. Bail should not be granted to prevent interference with the case,” Abbas told the court.

Earlier, Bahadurabad police also confirmed that investigations were ongoing and the accused and his accomplice also circulated obscene videos and pictures of the victim on social media.

It merits a mention that 2025 saw a spike in incidents of violence, particularly sexual assault, against women across the country.

In December, local police in Punjab’s Sahiwal said a woman from Tandlianwala was allegedly lured to the city by a social media acquaintance and gang raped by at least two men.

The survivor told authorities that she was given a drink believed to contain intoxicants before being sexually assaulted.

She later reported the matter to the police, who registered a case and started conducting raids to arrest the suspects.

    Probe is underway.

  • Mother, three children found hanging in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth

Mother, three children found hanging in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth

The bodies of a woman and her three children have been found hanging inside a house near Machhar Colony in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth on Sunday, police have confirmed.

After the incident was reported, a crime scene unit went to the house, Sohrab Goth police have said. Evidence has been gathered from the scene and investigation is underway.

The remains were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination, according to police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed. The children were 10, three, and two years old, while their mother’s age was determined to be around 35.

“We have collected all samples for chemical analysis,” Dr Syed said, adding that the cause of death has been reserved until laboratory reports are received.

There were no indications of a conflict within the home, Zubair Nazir Shaikh, East Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), has states. Neighbors did not report hearing any arguments or disturbances during the incident, he continued.

“The husband told police that he works at the New Subzi Mandi and had left for work around 4am,” SSP Shaikh said. “When he returned several hours later, he found his wife and three children dead.”

The SSP said police were waiting for autopsy reports before drawing any conclusions. “It would be premature at this stage to reach any final conclusion,” he said.

According to Sohrab Goth Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Aurangzeb Khattak, preliminary findings indicated that the woman killed the children before taking her own life. He claimed that the issue seemed to be related to domestic problems.

“The woman was an Afghan national, while her husband originally belonged to Punjab,” DSP Khattak said. He added that the woman was reportedly emotionally disturbed and allegedly used to beat the children.

The husband had admitted to authorities that there had previously been disagreements between the couple. “Her husband sometimes, in a fit of anger, used to threaten her that he would marry another woman if she did not stop beating the children,” the DSP narrated.

The officer clarified that the husband has not been taken into custody but is being questioned as part of the investigation. “The man told police that when he returned from his job and knocked on the door, there was no response,” DSP Khattak said. “He then climbed the wall and saw the bodies hanging inside the room.”

Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar took notice of the event and requested a report from the East SSP, according to a statement released by his office. He asked police authorities to look into the situation from all sides.

“The reasons behind the incident should be identified, and suspects should be dealt with in accordance with the law,” Lanjar was quoted as saying.

He also instructed officials to ensure a transparent investigation and identify those responsible.

  • Father shoots daughter, alleged partner to death in Rawalpindi

Father shoots daughter, alleged partner to death in Rawalpindi

A father allegedly killed his daughter and a man thought to be her partner in the name of so-called honour in the Gujjar Khan area of Rawalpindi, police have said.

According to reports, Nadeem, a resident of the Takia Baba Rahim Shah area, lived with his family, while his daughter Shanail worked at a medical complex nearby.

Police said Shanail was reportedly involved in discussions about a potential relationship.

On Wednesday morning, Nadeem allegedly saw Shanail with a young man named Rehmanullah at home. In a fit of rage, he opened fire, killing both Shanail and Rehmanullah at the scene.

The suspect’s wife was also caught in the gunfire and sustained serious injuries from three bullet wounds. She has been shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gujjar Khan Daniyal Kazmi and Station House Officer (SHO) Gujjar Khan Tayyab Zaheer reached the scene after receiving information of the firing.

  • Two young sisters found dead; police reject suicide claims

Two young sisters found dead; police reject suicide claims

Two young sisters were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their residence in Lahore’s South Cantonment area on Monday, prompting police to launch an investigation and register a murder case against unknown suspects.

The deceased were identified as Kiran, 19, and Maryam, 17. Their bodies were shifted to the city morgue for autopsies.

Police said the case raised suspicions after the girls’ father, Latif, claimed that both daughters had committed suicide by ingesting poison.

The two girls were devastated by the alleged murder of their elder sister, Sumeera, 25, in Kasur, their father claimed.

Latif told police that Sumeera had married a man from Kasur district a few years ago. He said her in-laws informed him that she had taken her own life following domestic disputes.

However, Latif said that he had registered a murder case against Sumeera’s in-laws with the Kasur police and that an investigation was underway.

He further claimed that the alleged murder of Sumeera had left Kiran and Maryam in severe emotional distress.

The police, however, rejected his claim and decided to register a murder case against unknown suspect (s) on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Mohammad Yasin. A police officer said the circumstances surrounding the deaths were very tricky and required thorough investigation.

The officer added that the most concerning aspect of the incident was that the family did not inform the local police about the deaths.

“We came to know about the incident only after Kasur police informed Lahore police,” the officer said.

Following the information, the South Cantonment SHO was directed to visit the family’s residence. However, by the time police arrived, locals informed them that the family had already taken the bodies to Sheikhupura district, their native area, for burial.

A police team, led by the SHO, travelled to Sheikhupura and took the bodies into custody.

According to the FIR, police suspect the girls may have been murdered and that the family was attempting to conceal facts. During questioning, police said the family failed to provide satisfactory answers, prompting authorities to order postmortem examinations.

Forensic experts accompanying the police team collected samples from the bodies, which were sent for laboratory analysis to determine the exact cause of death.
