Catherine O’Hara, emmy-winning actor of ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ dies at 71

Catherine O’Hara, the actor best known for her roles in “Home Alone,” “Best in Show,” and the television series “Schitt’s Creek,” has died at the age of 71 on Friday at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness.

O’Hara’s career spanned five decades, beginning in television with the Canadian sketch comedy series “Second City Television,” which she co-created with Eugene Levy. Her work on the show earned her an Emmy Award and four additional nominations. She later transitioned into film, appearing in titles including “After Hours,” “Beetlejuice,” and the first two installments of the “Home Alone” franchise where she played the role of the mother of Kevin McCallister, portrayed by Macaulay Culkin. O’Hara maintained a close relationship with Culkin and honored him during his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2023.

She also worked frequently with director Christopher Guest, appearing in his mockumentary films “Best in Show”, “Waiting for Guffman”, “For Your Consideration”, and “A Mighty Wind”. Her voice acting credits included roles in animated films such as “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Chicken Little.”

In later years, O’Hara returned to the role of Delia Deetz in the sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” and appeared in the Apple film “Argylle.” Her television work expanded further after she starred as Moira Rose in the CBC sitcom “Schitt’s Creek,” alongside Eugene Levy, Dan Levy, and Annie Murphy. The role earned her a second Emmy Award and led to additional television appearances.

Following “Schitt’s Creek,” O’Hara took on roles in HBO’s “The Last of Us” and Apple TV’s “The Studio” where she portrayed a Hollywood executive pushed out of her position as the series examined the inner workings of the entertainment industry. The second season of the show recently began filming.

In an interview about “The Studio,” O’Hara spoke about changes in Hollywood over the years. “It must be a much more nervous business now, than in the past,” she said. “The internet and streaming must have opened up a world of good and horrific possibilities for people.” She added, “Most people are trying to do and want to do good work. And most people want to be entertained.”

Born in Toronto, O’Hara later became a public figure in Los Angeles and was named honorary mayor of Brentwood in 2021. She is survived by her husband, production designer Bo Welch, their sons Matthew and Luke, and her siblings.

  • Mughal heirloom on red carpet: Margot Robbie wears Nur Jahan’s diamond necklace to movie premiere

Mughal heirloom on red carpet: Margot Robbie wears Nur Jahan’s diamond necklace to movie premiere

Margot Robbie turned heads at the Los Angeles premiere of her upcoming film Wuthering Heights but it wasn’t her acting or gown that dominated conversation on social media. The spotlight fell on an opulent piece of jewellery with a centuries-old history: Mughal Empress Nur Jahan’s Taj Mahal Diamond necklace.

The heart-shaped diamond, mounted in jade and suspended from a gold, ruby, and diamond chain, bears an inscription in Persian reading “Love is Everlasting”, alongside Nur Jahan’s name.

The jewel was originally gifted by Mughal Emperor Jehangir to his wife as a symbol of devotion and later passed down to Empress Mumtaz Mahal.

Over the centuries, the necklace changed hands multiple times. Cartier acquired the piece, redesigning it with a gold and ruby chain, rondelles, and tassels. In 1972, Cartier president Michael Thomas presented it to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton as a birthday and Valentine’s Day gift, creating one of the most iconic jewels in Hollywood history.

The necklace was sold as part of Taylor’s estate in December 2011 for $8.8 million, setting a record for Indian jewellery at the time.

Now decades later, Robbie has worn the necklace under the glare of the red carpet, reviving Mughal history.

But the appearance has sparked a wave of criticism online, with social media users highlighting the necklace’s colonial and controversial provenance. “Give us our jewels back… Go make and display and museumify your own,” one netizen wrote, while another noted, “That means she was wearing a stolen neckpiece. xD” Others drew attention to Cartier’s role in the historical acquisition of such jewels: “Cartier – the thief? The symbol of colonialism and revisionism,” one commentator said.

Many reactions focused on the broader implications of a white Hollywood actress wearing a piece tied to India’s royal heritage. One user asked, “Before people justify what this brand has done, ask yourself why they never ask other actors who are people of colour to wear these jewels? Why always white women? What message do they wanna send? That it belongs to white people?”

As Wuthering Heights prepares for its February 13 release, the necklace has become an unexpected focal point, raising questions about history, ownership, and the ethics of luxury jewellery.

  • Real or fake? Hania Aamir’s cousin breaks silence on actress’ dimples

Real or fake? Hania Aamir’s cousin breaks silence on actress’ dimples

Actress Hania Aamir has recently been at the center of online debate, with fans and content creators questioning whether her dimples and beauty are natural or the result of cosmetic surgery. The discussion intensified after dermatologist Dr Arij Khalid suggested that Hania might have undergone dimpleplasty.

Addressing the rumors, a woman named Noreen Shad, claiming to be Hania’s cousin, shared a detailed post on Facebook.

She wrote, “As Hania Amir’s first cousin and a close family relative, I feel it is important to clarify the false information being widely shared on YouTube and Instagram. Hania Amir’s dimple and fair complexion are completely natural. They are not the result of any surgery or cosmetic procedure. She has been naturally pretty and cute since childhood, which is evident from her school, college, and university photographs.”

Noreen also emphasised Hania’s disciplined lifestyle, saying, “Over the last 10 years, she has naturally grown into her features. With time, maturity, regular gym workouts, and a disciplined diet to avoid extra weight and facial roundness, some of her features have become sharper. This is normal aging and fitness, not cosmetic alteration.”

She added that Hania was born in Karachi and comes from an upper middle-class family. She also urged content creators to verify facts before posting, warning, “It really feels bad when you spread false rumors about her for getting more views without the authenticity of your content.”

Hania follows Noreen’s Instagram account, where she shares several childhood pictures of the actress that clearly show her natural dimples.

Hania Aamir entered the entertainment industry in 2014 and rose to fame with her film debut Janaan (2016). She appeared in Na Maloom Afraad 2 (2017), Parwaaz Hai Junoon (2018), Parde Mein Rehne Do (2022), and Sardaar Ji 3 (2025), earning recognition for her versatile performances on the big screen.

On television, she delivered notable performances in Phir Wohi Mohabbat (2017), Anaa (2019), Dil Ruba (2020), Ishqiya (2020), Mere Humsafar (2022), Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha (2023), and Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum (2024), showcasing both her romantic and dramatic range.

‘Seniority does not automatically equal honesty’: Alizeh Shah calls out Shazia Manzoor

Actress Alizeh Shah has directly criticised veteran singer Shazia Manzoor over what she describes as a lack of honesty, bringing renewed attention to a long-standing dispute between the two entertainers.

The issue dates back to December 2021 when Alizeh fell on the ramp during a performance with Shazia at the Bridal Couture Week stage. The incident sparked speculation about whether the singer had pushed her, creating massive public debate.

In 2025, Alizeh spoke about the incident, sharing explosive revelations about her experience in the entertainment industry. In an Instagram video, she claimed, “My fall on the ramp wasn’t an accident. Shazia Manzoor kept grabbing and pushing me repeatedly, which made me lose my balance.”

She added, “This behavior is a habit of hers. She’s done the same to Jannat Mirza before. Such actions can embarrass anyone, especially in a public setting.”

Recently, Shazia Manzoor responded to questions about the incident in Punjabi, saying, “I swear upon God that I did not make her fall, she tripped. Why would anyone want to hurt such a beautiful girl? That day, she was indeed looking very pretty. I did not make her fall, she caught the evil eye. Alizeh, I love you my child.”

Alizeh addressed Shazia’s remarks directly on her official Instagram account.

She wrote, “Expecting sincerity just because someone is a senior is like hitting your head against a wall. Seniority does not automatically equal wisdom, grace, or honesty.”

She urged established figures in the industry to focus on their craft rather than maintaining relevance through controversy. “Shazia Manzoor, I also genuinely hope that your work goes viral for your music and talent, not for repeatedly pulling down models and actors. True value never needs to be proven by diminishing others,” she added.

Alizeh Shah entered the entertainment industry in 2016 with a supporting role in “Choti Si Zindagi” and rose to prominence with her breakout role as Palwasha in the romantic drama “Ishq Tamasha” in 2018, earning a Hum Award for Best Television Sensation.

She gained wider recognition for portraying Dua in the military-centered drama “Ehd-e-Wafa” in 2019 and has starred in serials such as “Hoor Pari” ‘Jo Tu Chahey”, “Mera Dil Mera Dushman”, “Tanaa Banaa”, “Bebasi”. Her recent project “Ishq Beparwah” features her as Jannat, navigating challenges from traditional family expectations to personal growth after marriage.

It may be noted that Shah has in recent months made headlines for being vocal against exploitative practices and toxic environment within the entertainment industry.

In a series of video confessions in July 2025, she opened up about years of harassment, exploitation and what she described as a toxic, patriarchal culture that repeatedly tried to silence her.

She emphasised the importance of consent, stating, “I don’t allow anyone to touch me if it’s not a part of the scene.” she revealed that when she set personal boundaries, such as calling out unhygienic practices or requesting a separate makeup room as a smoker, she was labelled “difficult” and “unprofessional” by seniors and producers.

Shah also exposed the industry’s harassment and closed-door rituals, admitting they had left her with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

That’s me and my mother’: Internet is relating to THIS scene from Kafeel

A recent episode of ARY Digital’s hit drama Kafeel has sparked widespread reactions on social media, as viewers connect to a pivotal scene to real-life experiences of family conflict.

As per the details, the episode focused on a tense moment in Zeba’s household when her daughter Javeria was dropped home by a classmate.

In the scene, Zeba’s husband Jami confronts Javeria, dragging her inside the house and turning violent as he questions her.

As tensions escalate, Zeba’s son repeatedly steps in to shield his sister, while Zeba later confronts Jami after he grabs a knife and threatens both his daughter and himself.

The sequence ended with a physical struggle to stop him, followed by shots of the children breaking down in different corners of the house, with Subuk injured and Zoya experiencing a panic attack.

The scene sparked strong reactions on social media as viewers said they could relate to it out of their own experiences of domestic conflicts.

Audiences praised the drama for realistically portraying a dysfunctional household and highlighting its emotional toll on children. Several also noted that the story reflected the situation in many homes where family members endure abuse and distress while trying to protect one another.

“This is literally me and my mother, we face this every day. Whenever I ask my mother to get divorce she says, don’t say it out loud, divorce is not easy when kids are involved,” wrote one user.

Another said, “This is the first time Pakistani drama is portraying the struggles of a dysfunctional family. Literal goosebumps and big time relate.”

Subuk, Zeba’s son, also received praise for standing by his sister. One user wrote, “My brother is exactly the same and I am so lucky to have him by my side,” while another said, “Everyone should have a supportive brother like Subuk; the sisters’ lives would get easier.”

Kafeel, written by Umera Ahmed and directed by Meesam Naqvi, depicts the harsh realities of domestic abuse, societal judgment and the burdens placed on women in toxic households.

Ducky Bhai credits ‘healthy, hygienic jail food’ for weight loss

YouTuber Saad Ur Rehman aka Ducky Bhai has credited “healthy and hygienic jail food” for his significant weight loss.

Appearing in a Lahore court for his wife Aroob Jatoi’s bail extension in the illegal gambling case Thursday, he had a brief interaction with journalists during which he spoke about his recent weight loss.

“The food in jail is very hygienic. One should either get flour delivered from jail or go get it themselves,” he said in response to a journalist’s question.

    Instagram Post

Ducky said that people wonder if prisoners are given just rotis and water or no roti at all, but jail food was actually healthy and hygienic.

When one of the reporters asked if he was promoting jail food, the YouTuber said, “What is there to promote about jail?”

Earlier, Additional Sessions Judge Mansoor Ahmed Qureshi extended Aroob’s interim bail till February 4.

During the hearing, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) asked for more time to submit case record, explaining that the investigating officer had to attend his brother’s wedding and could not appear.

Ducky himself also remains under active investigation for alleged promotion of gambling apps.

He first landed in legal trouble on August 17, 2025, when authorities from the NCCIA arrested him from the airport in Lahore on allegations that he promoted unlicensed gambling applications on social media and may have been involved in related financial activities.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) granted him bail in November 2025 against surety bonds of Rs1 million, and he was released from custody on November 26.

Prosecutors have since submitted case records and a challan to the court, and hearings such as his request for the recovery of seized devices are ongoing.

  • Imran Abbas wants politicians to take Karachi as seriously as Tabish Hashmi’s joke

Imran Abbas wants politicians to take Karachi as seriously as Tabish Hashmi’s joke

Actor Imran Abbas has weighed in on the controversy surrounding comedian and TV host Tabish Hashmi, defending him after strong criticism from Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

Sharing his views on Instagram, Abbas said the reaction from politicians missed the real issues highlighted in Hashmi’s remarks.

“If politicians took Karachi even 1/100th as seriously as they take Tabish Hashmi’s joke, since anyone can tell it wasn’t said in a literal sense, they wouldn’t be dodging the real issues he was pointing out,” Abbas wrote in an Instagram story without naming any politician.

The debate began after Hashmi, while discussing the deadly Gul Plaza fire during a program on a private news channel, suggested the privatisation of Karachi. Comparing the situation to the government’s decision to privatise Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Hashmi said Karachi’s residents could manage the city better themselves.

“If the government realised it could not run PIA and decided to privatise it, then Karachi should also be privatised. We, the people of Karachi Pathan, Baloch, Sindhi, Muhajir, Punjabi will handle it ourselves. If this is the current standard of governance, we can run it better, because it cannot be run worse than this,” he said.

Sharjeel Inam Memon responded sharply to the comments, calling them “foolish” and “stupid” while speaking to journalists on Tuesday. Without naming Hashmi, the senior minister said the individual lacked an understanding of constitutional law, history, and the geography of Sindh.

“The individual who said this had neither studied constitutional law nor understood Sindh’s historical and geographical importance. Such comments showed a serious lack of awareness about Sindh’s constitutional role within Pakistan,” Memon said.

He also urged the concerned private television channel to conduct an internal inquiry and take disciplinary action against the anchorperson. “Media organisations must promote responsible journalism and avoid spreading misleading narratives about Karachi and Sindh,” he added.

Memon further stressed Sindh’s central role in the creation of Pakistan and said many people comment on sensitive issues related to Karachi without proper knowledge of the province’s history and geography.

The remarks came in the aftermath of a massive fire at Gul Plaza on the night of January 17. The blaze destroyed the multi-storey shopping complex, which housed around 1,200 shops selling children’s clothing, toys, crockery, and household items.

According to reports, authorities have recovered more than 79 bodies so far, while rescue teams continue search operations at the site.
