  • Sharjeel Memon calls Tabish Hashmi’s Karachi privatisation remarks foolish, seeks action by TV channel

Sharjeel Memon calls Tabish Hashmi’s Karachi privatisation remarks foolish, seeks action by TV channel

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has strongly criticised comedian and TV host Tabish Hashmi over his remarks about the privatisation of Karachi and has urged the concerned private television channel to take action.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Sharjeel Memon reacted sharply to comments made on a private news channel about Karachi’s governance and status.

Without naming the anchorperson, he used harsh language, calling the remarks “foolish” and “stupid,” and said the speaker lacked understanding of law, history, and the geography of Sindh.

Sharjeel Memon said, “The individual who said this had neither studied constitutional law nor understood Sindh’s historical and geographical importance. Such comments showed a serious lack of awareness about Sindh’s constitutional role within Pakistan.”

He appealed to the private television channel to conduct an internal inquiry against the anchorperson responsible and to take disciplinary action. “Media organisations must promote responsible journalism and avoid spreading misleading narratives about Karachi and Sindh,” he added.

The senior minister stressed Sindh’s key role in the creation of Pakistan.

Memon further said, “Many people who comment on sensitive issues related to Karachi and Sindh speak without proper knowledge of the province’s history and geography.”

The controversy erupted after Tabish Hashmi, following the Gul Plaza fire incident, suggested the privatisation of Karachi during a programme on a private news channel.

“If the government realised it could not run PIA and decided to privatise it, then Karachi should also be privatised. We, the people of Karachi Pathan, Baloch, Sindhi, Muhajir, Punjabi will handle it ourselves. If this is the current standard of governance, we can run it better, because it cannot be run worse than this,” Hashmi said.

The remarks came after a massive fire broke out at Gul Plaza on the night of January 17. The blaze destroyed the landmark shopping mall, a multi-storey complex housing around 1,200 shops selling children’s clothing, toys, crockery, and household items.

According to the latest reports, authorities have recovered more than 79 bodies so far, while rescue teams continue search operations.

  • Billie Eilish calls on fellow celebrities to break silence on ICE killings

Billie Eilish calls on fellow celebrities to break silence on ICE killings

Singer Billie Eilish has called on fellow celebrities to address two killings by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Minneapolis in the past few weeks.

In an Instagram Story, Eilish shared a photo of herself looking at the camera with the caption, “hey my fellow celebrities u gonna speak up?” The post came shortly after she reshared content highlighting Alex Pretti’s death.

Pretti, 37, was shot and killed on Saturday during an ICE operation. The Trump administration stated that the officer involved was acting in self-defense, claiming Pretti had threatened violence with a handgun. Witness videos, however, show Pretti was not holding his weapon during the confrontation, and a federal agent seemingly removing a gun from Pretti’s holster before the shooting. According to his family, Pretti had a permit to carry a concealed firearm in Minnesota.

Eilish’s brother and collaborator Finneas shared a video addressing the incident, which Eilish reposted. In the clip, he said, “The conservative argument that allows school shootings to continue has always basically boiled down to, ‘We have to protect the Second Amendment.’ Every argument I’ve seen for why Alex Pretti’s death was justified yesterday is like, ‘Well he had a gun.’”

He continued, “Shut the f–k up! This guy was being beaten to a pulp on the ground. He didn’t draw his weapon. He had a weapon on him legally. And they still shot the f–k out of him!”

Both Eilish and Finneas have previously criticized ICE’s presence in Minneapolis, which has resulted in two civilian deaths. A few weeks before Pretti’s death, Renee Good was also shot and killed by an ICE officer in the city. The administration said that officer Jonathan Ross was acting in self-defense, while witness footage suggested he was not in immediate danger.

Eilish spoke about the situation while accepting the 2026 MLK Jr. Beloved Community Award for Environmental Justice on January 17. She said, “We’re seeing our neighbors being kidnapped, peaceful protesters being assaulted and murdered, our civil rights being stripped,” and added that many Americans “no longer feel safe in our own homes or in our streets.”

Olivia Rodrigo also addressed the events in Minneapolis, posting that “ICEs actions are unconscionable but we are not powerless. our actions matter. I stand with Minnesota.”

  • Muamma is the best drama on TV right now

Muamma is the best drama on TV right now

Muamma, Saba Qamar’s latest drama is a psychological thriller with all the elements that a Pakistani drama needs.

In Episode 9 and 10, Jahan Ara’s (Saba Qamar) new tenants are right where she wants them. Junaid (Ali Ansari) has expressed his love for Jahan Ara despite his wife, Maira (Anoushay Abbasi) being pregnant and oblivious to his night-time conversations with Jahan Ara.

We also see flashbacks of Jahan Ara’s life. A controlling, viscious, cheating husband who is in jail for murder, a father who literally threw her out and a helpless mother. A greedy brother and a father who, even if he realises that he did his daughter wrong, would never admit it. She’s had a tough life and she took ownership of it in the most twisted of ways.

And that is the beauty of Muamma. Jahan Ara is the villain of the drama, the breaker of marriages because she initiates the ‘firnedship’ between the men and then watches their lives unfold. But we feel bad for her as well and find her well, relatable.

Relatable, how? She had a bad childhood with an overbearing father, fell in love but was unable to marry the love of her life (Usman Mukhtar) for reasons that we still don’t know and was treated horribly by her husband, who met with women and made her serve them.

It is surprising that Jahan Ara turned out to be a woman who wants to see if men break from their marriages, sets up situations to make them chase her and then supports the wives when their marriages are in trouble. She seems to have a twisted saviour syndrome, wanting to save women from bad marriages which she is instrumental in breaking.

At the end of episode 10 we see the glass crack after Junaid accidentally throws a ball at it and Jahan Ara’s secret is at risk of being exposed. What will happen if it is, although at this point of the show it likely isnt. But it’s important to show that while Jahan Ara now lives in her own world where nothing she does has consequences, like sending Zeeshan to prison and her staff member for spying on her. How she managed to do so in such little time with the police is not explained but it does show the power she now weilds and the contrast between her past and present is striking. We want to know more and more about how she became the twisted convoluted person she is and can’t wait for the next episode to find out.

  • Mawra Hocane draws parallel between career move and viral penguin clip

Mawra Hocane draws parallel between career move and viral penguin clip

Mawra Hocane has compared a personal decision taken in the early days of her career to a penguin clip that has been circulating widely on social media.

The actor shared her thoughts on Instagram on Monday, as a video of a penguin walking away alone from its colony continued to gain traction online. The clip shows the penguin heading toward distant icy mountains, away from the group.

In her Instagram story, Hocane reflected on her decision to relocate from one city to another five years ago, a move she said many around her discouraged her from at the time. According to the actor, she was warned that the decision could bring her career to an end.

Re-sharing the penguin clip, Hocane wrote, “When I moved cities 5 years ago… So many told me it’d end my career… I’d only be doing side work… It was hard but I knew how I felt… And all this time later it was the best thing I could do for myself.”

She added, “Never run the rat race. Be in your own lane. Preserve your sanity.. Preserve the magic.”

The actor drew a parallel between her experience and the penguin’s lone walk, suggesting that the decision to step away from the expected path came despite external opinions.

The penguin video, which has been described online as “Nihilist Penguin,” is not a recent recording. The clip was originally uploaded almost a decade ago and is taken from the 2007 documentary Encounters at the End of the World.

The footage shows a penguin separating from its group and moving toward the mountains, a direction that differs from the usual path taken by the colony. The behaviour is considered rare, as penguins typically remain with their group for survival.

There is no known explanation for the penguin’s movement in the clip. Social media users have been interpreting the scene in different ways. Some have described it as a form of motivation, while others have focused on concerns around the outcome of such behaviour.

  • ‘How can we still endorse boycotted brands?’ Sanam Saeed calls out inconsistent pro-Palestine consumers

‘How can we still endorse boycotted brands?’ Sanam Saeed calls out inconsistent pro-Palestine consumers

Actor Sanam Saeed has sparked a fresh conversation online by questioning the growing inconsistency she sees among so-called pro-Palestine consumers. Taking to Instagram, the Kafeel star called out what she described as the quiet return of brands that were previously boycotted for allegedly supporting Israel, asking people to reflect on what they truly stand for.

She questioned how people could claim to stand with Palestine while continuing to buy or endorse brands that had previously been boycotted. Sanam also pointed out that the idea behind the boycott was to shift towards local alternatives, expressing concern over how easily foreign brands were being welcomed back into everyday life despite earlier public opposition.

“So why are we so casually allowing them back into our lives and narratives?” she questioned, expressing disappointment over how quickly the resolve seems to be fading.

Sanam’s stance resonated strongly with many social media users, who largely applauded her for raising what they called a “much-needed” question.

Reactions ranged from simple affirmations like “agreed” and “couldn’t agree more” to more pointed criticism of influencers and bloggers accused of performative activism.

One user remarked, “Which is why we need more intellectual voices. I’ve seen bloggers being extremely happy and flaunting their Dior packages while having Palestine fundraisers in their bios. What’s the need for this hypocrisy? Stand with your stance proudly at least.”

Another added, “They think no one observes what they do. We see them and more importantly, our Creator is watching too. She’s right to point this out.” Summing up the mood, a commenter wrote, “Oh finally, finally someone called these fake people out.”

Dhurandhar actor arrested on charges of raping domestic worker

Mumbai police have arrested Bollywood actor Nadeem Khan, who appeared in the propaganda film Dhurandhar, after a domestic worker accused him of sexually abusing her for nearly 10 years.

According to India media reports, local police took the actor into custody on January 22 following a complaint filed by a 41-year-old woman who told investigators that she had worked as a domestic help at the homes of several actors in the past and came into contact with Nadeem several years ago.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that the actor promised to marry her and used that assurance to repeatedly exploit her over the past decade.

She claimed the assaults took place at her residence in Malvani and at the actor’s home in Versova.

Police have registered a case based on the woman’s statement and moved swiftly to detain the suspect. “We have recorded the complainant’s version and initiated further investigation,” a police officer told local media.

Police have not disclosed additional details about the charges.

  • ‘It’s fake and AI-made’: Alina Amir breaks silence on viral deepfake video

‘It’s fake and AI-made’: Alina Amir breaks silence on viral deepfake video

Pakistani TikToker Alina Amir has broken her silence on an alleged obscene video circulating online, categorically denying its authenticity and revealing that the content was created using artificial intelligence to damage her reputation.

The social media star released a detailed video statement on Instagram addressing the controversy that has dominated online discussions for the past week.

“I did not intend to address this matter publicly. For an entire week, I observed the situation quietly and chose not to react,” she explained. The situation escalated when she noticed hundreds of misleading posts making false claims about her.

“But when I began seeing hundreds of posts titled ‘Alina Amir ki video leak ho gayi hai,’ I felt it was necessary to speak,” she said.

The influencer expressed deep concern over how easily misinformation spreads online. “It is deeply disturbing how easily misinformation is spread and how some people are willing to go to any extent to defame someone without verifying facts,” she added.

Alina categorically denied the video’s authenticity and urged people to verify content before sharing it.

“If you are going to upload or circulate content, it is your responsibility to first confirm whether it is authentic or AI generated,” she stated. “Spreading false information causes real harm.”

The TikToker made a direct appeal to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, calling for strict action against those who create AI-based illicit material targeting women.

“I sincerely request the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif Sahiba, to take strict action against individuals who create AI generated videos of women and use them to damage reputations and destroy lives,” she said.

While demanding action, Alina also commended law enforcement agencies for their efforts.

“I appreciate the work being done by the Crime Control Department,” she stated, noting that “harassment and child abuse cases being handled under CCD is a reassuring step.”

She urged CCD official Sohail Zafar Chattha to personally oversee the matter. “I request Sohail Zafar Chattha Sir to take this case seriously and ensure that those responsible are arrested and punished severely. Creating AI based illicit content is a serious form of harassment and must be treated as such,” she said.

Alina emphasized that the issue extends far beyond public figures and affects countless private individuals who lack the resources to defend themselves.

“This issue is not limited to celebrities,” she explained. “Private individuals suffer even more, as such fabricated content is sent to their homes and families, leaving them with lifelong trauma.”

She acknowledged her own support system. “Alhamdulillah, my family is educated and stands by me with complete trust.” However, she raised a critical question about others facing similar situations. “Many girls do not have the means or evidence to defend themselves. How are they expected to justify the truth when something false is presented as real?”

In a decisive move, Alina announced a financial incentive to help track down the perpetrator.

“I am announcing a cash reward for anyone who provides credible information leading to the identification of the person who created this AI video,” she declared, stressing that accountability remains essential to prevent repeat offenses. “The person responsible must be punished so that they never think of doing this to another girl again.”

Concluding her statement, Alina framed the issue as a defining challenge of the digital era.

“It is 2026,” she said. “No woman should feel compelled to remain silent. If you are speaking the truth, you should stand up for yourself without fear.”

Alina Amir has previously found herself at the center of public speculation regarding her personal life, including reports in July 2025 linking her to Maan Dogar, which she denied. She has also faced intermittent speculation about her relationship with fellow TikToker Umer Butt through claims of close friendship.

She has 2.5 million followers on Instagram and 2.2 million on TikTok, initially rose to fame through a viral reel where she mimicked the phrase “Tum jo pills khati ho wo kya hai” during a TV show.

  • Indian film critic KRK arrested for firing in Mumbai residential society

Indian film critic KRK arrested for firing in Mumbai residential society

Mumbai police have arrested controversial film critic Kamaal Rashid Khan, popularly known as KRK, following a shooting incident in a residential society in the city’s western suburbs.

According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred on January 18 at Nalanda Society in the Oshiwara area of Andheri, where residents reported hearing two gunshots, according to Indian media reports.

Police brought KRK to Oshiwara police station late Friday night for questioning. During interrogation, he admitted to firing two shots from his licensed firearm, police officials said.

Investigators recovered two bullets from the society premises during an examination. They found one bullet on the second floor and another on the fourth floor of the building.

Police revealed that one flat belongs to a writer and director, while the other flat is registered in the name of a model.

Initial CCTV footage review provided no significant leads, which complicated the investigation. However, forensic examination later indicated the bullets may have been fired from KRK’s nearby bungalow.

Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the shooting.

Police registered a case against the actor under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

    The investigation continues.

  • Backlash erupts after Nida Yasir recalls Gul Plaza visit days before deadly fire

Backlash erupts after Nida Yasir recalls Gul Plaza visit days before deadly fire

Morning show host Nida Yasir has yet again sparked outrage on social media after she recounted a recent shopping trip to Gul Plaza while discussing the devastating fire in the shopping mall that claimed at least 71 lives.

Speaking on her morning show, Yasir talked about visiting the building days before the January 17 tragedy.

“Four to five days before the fire, I needed to buy a coffee machine. I couldn’t find the machine I wanted, so I searched every floor. It felt strange because I had just been there two days ago,” she said.

The host continued detailing her shopping experience. “The people I saw on the media, their faces looked very familiar to me. This entire flower set,” she said, pointing to decorations on her show’s set, “we bought it from there. I used to wear a mask and go there. The shopping was so good there. There were so many amazing items.”

Her comments drew swift criticism from viewers.

“Wherever any incident happens, she was present there two days before it,” one user wrote, mocking what they saw as a pattern in her coverage.

“Why are you smiling? Are you crazy? Instead of talking about your shopping, you should have stayed quiet and expressed sorrow,” another critic commented.

Others accused her of trying to appear relatable in an insensitive manner. “Seriously…how come she is present at every incident. People burned alive, and rather than calling out the government or management, they are telling their shopping stories,” wrote one frustrated viewer.

The Gul Plaza fire broke out around 10 pm on January 17 and tore through the building within minutes. Flames moved from the rear to the front of the plaza, overwhelming rescue efforts. Firefighters spent two days bringing the blaze under control.

Preliminary investigations point to an artificial flower shop as the origin point, where children may have played with matches or lighters. Panic ensued as people rushed toward exits, but closed gates and metal grills blocked access to the roof.

Latest reports revealed that authorities completed post mortem examinations of 71 bodies, though they have identified only a fraction of the victims.

  • Ken Doll apologises to ‘social media family’ after public feud with other creators

Ken Doll apologises to ‘social media family’ after public feud with other creators

Social media influencer Ken Doll aka Adnan Zafar has issued an apology after finding himself in the middle of a major clash with other content creators for posting a promotional video in collaboration with the Punjab government.

As per the details, Zafar had in his video raved about how a province with “someone as beautiful as Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz running it, had to of course, be advancing very well”.

After he was called out for comparing good governance with beauty by other influencers, including Ansar and Gram by Noor, he lashed back and threatened them, saying that he could break eyeglasses, which Ansar said was in reference to the glasses he was wearing, and pull wires out of teeth, which seemed to be in reference to Noor’s braces.

The Current made a compilation on the issue that can be viewed below.

Zafar’s response stirred further controversy as several influencers jumped in saying that his attitude and reaction were demeaning and not okay.

Amid severe backlash, he deleted his previous videos and shared to his Instagram account an apology on Thursday night.

In the video, he said there are two sides to every story. Everyone has opinions and everyone has a choice on how they would like to respond, either in a positive way or a negative way, he added.

“I believe my response was not the right one,” Zafar said, adding that people were very hurt.

The influencer said that he got a lot of comments and messages and he has nothing to hide. And so, he added, he was asking for forgiveness just like a younger brother or friend.

Zafar also said that his community on social media was like a big family and he should be a responsible member of that family.

The video has so far been lauded by his followers and many celebrities, including Hania Aamir, Anushay Ashraf and Faryal Makhdoom.
