  • Legal trouble for Bachchan family as son-in-law charged with fraud, abetment to suicide

Legal trouble for Bachchan family as son-in-law charged with fraud, abetment to suicide

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan’s son-in-law Nikhil Nanda has been accused of fraud and abetment to suicide.

According to Indian media reports, a case has been filed against Nanda in Uttar Pradesh where he is accused of pressuring a businessman to meet unrealistic sales targets, ultimately leading to the latter’s suicide three months ago.

The incident reportedly unfolded when Jitendra Singh, who owned a tractor dealership, was subjected to intense pressure from Nanda and other senior executives at Escorts Kubota Limited to increase sales figures.

The dealership owner, already struggling with the added burden of managing his business alone, was allegedly threatened that his licence would be revoked if he failed to meet the target.

Overwhelmed by the pressure, Singh took his own life, reports said.

The complaint has been filed by Singh’s brother Gyanendra who accused Escorts Kubota Chairman and Managing Director Nanda, as well as other officials, including area managers, sales managers and a local dealer, of subjecting the late businessman to intimidation and driving his tragic death.

While an official statement has not yet come from Nanda, the Bachchan family has also refrained from commenting on the issue.

Nanda is married to Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan’s daughter Shweta. The couple have two children together – Navya Naveli Nanda, a women’s rights advocate and podcaster, and Agastya Nanda, who made his Bollywood debut with The Archies.

Born into the Kapoor family, Nanda is the son of Ritu Nanda, the daughter of Raj Kapoor, one of Bollywood’s most influential filmmakers. His uncles Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor were all major film stars.

As the leader of Escorts Kubota, he has been credited with significantly growing the company, which is a key player in India’s agricultural machinery market.

Before venturing into business, Nanda completed his schooling at the prestigious Doon School in Dehradun, followed by business management studies at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

He then took the helm at Escorts Kubota, a company originally founded by his grandfathers, Har Prasad Nanda and Yudi Nanda, both highly respected figures in the agricultural machinery sector.

In addition to his corporate success, Nanda’s association with Bollywood has kept him in the public eye. Prominent celebrities Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ranbir Kapoor are his cousins.

  • Internet divided after viral video shows Hamza Ali Abbasi officiating Nikah

Internet divided after viral video shows Hamza Ali Abbasi officiating Nikah

Social media users are divided over a viral video that showed actor Hamza Ali Abbasi officiating the marriage ceremony of a couple.

According to the details, the video showed Abbasi reading a script off a phone, asking the groom if he accepted the bride, as per tradition.

“Qabool hai [I accept],” the groom can be heard as saying all three times, to which Abbasi responds with “SubhanAllah [glory be to Allah]”.

While the video was well-received by thousands who said that anyone could read Nikah that was “a legal and not a religious document”, others said that it lacked certain “decorum” that should have been there.

“Nikah and funeral prayers can be conducted by any Muslim,” wrote one user. Another said that it was in fact a good practice and not every act should be criticised online.

“My Nikah was officiated by my uncle and there is nothing wrong with that,” said a third.

A couple others opined that marriage officiation should be left to those who “realise its significance”, while another jokingly wrote, “Now even this is being done by actors? Leave something for others to do.”

Some even took to social media to point out how “handsome” the Nikah officiator was.

It merits a mention that the video comes months after Abbasi made headlines for his new book called “My Discovery of God – Islam and Judgement Day”.

Prior to this, Abbasi had announced embarking on “a journey of self-discovery” to research more on religion.

“Alhamdullilah. For now, it is available in the USA [sic] only but soon it will be available globally and in Pakistan, will keep you all posted. Thank you,” the Maula Jatt star had said while announcing the book in a social media post last year.

On hearing about the star’s biggest accomplishment, many had congratulated him while others had some hard questions for the actor-turned-author.

He had, however, not shied away from taking all questions head-on and responding to queries of fans and other social media users.

  • ‘Aurat ki kamayi mein barkat nahi,’ Saima Qureshi stands by her statement despite backlash

‘Aurat ki kamayi mein barkat nahi,’ Saima Qureshi stands by her statement despite backlash

Actress Saima Qureshi has issued a clarification regarding her controversial statement, which has been circulating on social media for the past week concerning women’s earnings.

A few days ago, Saima appeared on the FHM podcast. She stated that women’s earnings are not blessed and that only men’s earnings are. She went on to say that women also tend to brag about their earnings.

Additionally, the actress asserted that men should consider a second marriage instead of engaging in extramarital affairs. Adding to her view, she also claimed that a husband does not need his first wife’s permission for a second marriage, stating that religion has not laid down any such rule.

Following her remarks, a number of women, including female celebrities, criticised Saima Qureshi.

Former journalist Reham Khan posted a video response in which she expressed her anger over the actress’s statements, saying, “It really angered me.” She pointed out the “hypocrisy” of Saima’s statement, given that she herself is a working woman and an actress.

“It’s very easy to say [that women’s earnings aren’t blessed], but it is an insult to women who do not have the choice to wait for the ‘blessed earnings’ of a man,” Reham added.

She further criticised the actress for her “hypocrisy and lack of insight,” stating that men, too, boast about their wealth, just as women do.

Senior actress Simi Raheal also reacted, posting on her Instagram story: “Women’s earnings are a plus! It is important to read the Quran and not make assumptions…” She then quoted the Quran: “To men is allotted what they earn, and to women what they earn. But ask God of His bounty. For God has full knowledge of all things.”

Comedian and internet personality Tamkenat Mansoor took a jab at Saima Qureshi’s statements, saying that when an actor is deprived of attention and has mediocre acting skills, they resort to making such controversial remarks to stay in the limelight.

    Saima Qureshi responds to backlash

After facing widespread criticism and trolling on social media, Saima Qureshi released a video statement on Instagram addressing the controversy.

Referring to the podcast, she acknowledged the backlash, saying, “Many people had complaints about my viral interview.”

Addressing social media users, she said, “You have only seen the 30-second teaser, but I request you to watch the entire 40-minute interview.”

She urged viewers to listen to her full explanation before jumping to conclusions, “Don’t just watch the teaser. Watch the entire interview where I have explained my statements in detail.”

Despite the backlash, Saima Qureshi reaffirmed her stance, stating that a woman’s earnings are not a blessing when her children are neglected because of her absence.

According to the actress, all working women, including herself, often struggle to decide where to spend their earnings. She emphasized that a woman’s primary role is to take care of the household, and when she steps outside to work, she faces a number of challenges.

She also clarified her stance on polygamy: “I am not saying that every man should marry more than once, but it is better to get married than to have extramarital affairs.”

Addressing women, she stated, “If you knowingly ignore your husband’s affairs and prevent him from marrying, then you are also complicit in these affairs.”

  • Is Tom Cruise dating this much younger actress?

Is Tom Cruise dating this much younger actress?

Tom Cruise is still one of the biggest and most successful stars in the world. Though the action legend continues to thrill audiences around the globe with mind boggling stunts, it should be acknowledged that the tremendously fit star is 62-years-old.

That’s why his recent dinner  with actress Ana de Armas in London has put the rumour mill in overdrive. Ana is 32, a good 26 years younger than Cruise.

The two posed for pictures with fans after the dinner in SoHo before leaving the venue together in a taxi.

Sources close to Cruise have said that the two stars were discussing possible collaborations in the future.

The superstar has not had a steady relationship since Katie Holmes ended their marriage in 2012. Although he has been linked to Colombia singer Shakira and his Mission Impossible 7 costar Hayley Atwell, nothing has ever been confirmed by Cruise himself or his publicist.

In 2024, he was rumoured to have been dating 25-year-old singer Victoria Canal. However, she was quick to deny the rumors. “Guys. I am not dating Tom Cruise. This is literally insane,” Victoria wrote via her Instagram Stories on August 5, 2024. “In all seriousness guys, Tom has been nothing but a lovely and encouraging person and mentor, much like Chris Martin, my dad, my music teachers and other wise people that have learned a lot from living. And again, I am friends with all kinds of people who are very different to me. You learn a lot if you’re open to life bringing you those teachers.”

He has also been spotted enjoying dinner with his longtime agent Maha Dakhil, but sources close to both have asserted that their friendship is decades old and is definitely not a romance as Tom is close to Maha’s husband too.

  • ‘I don’t care about Palestine,’ Jerry Seinfeld tells activist

‘I don’t care about Palestine,’ Jerry Seinfeld tells activist

The 70-year-old comedian was approached by social media personality Subway DJ outside Saturday Night Live’s 50th-anniversary celebration at Radio City Music Hall.

In the video, Subway DJ asked Seinfeld for a selfie, to which the comedian agreed. As they posed, the activist suddenly said, “Free Palestine,” while flashing a peace sign. Seinfeld, caught off guard, paused briefly before responding, “I don’t care about Palestine,” and walking away.

The clip quickly went viral, sparking intense online debate. Critics called Seinfeld’s response dismissive and insensitive. One user wrote, “We don’t care about Seinfeld”, while others mocked the comedian’s past scandals.

Another added, “What do you expect from a Zionist.”

One noted Palestine is much older than 16 years old so it makes sense why Seinfeld doesn’t care for it.

Others defended the comedian, arguing that the activist’s approach was disrespectful.

“It’s disingenuous to try to get a celeb on camera to say something political. Pathetic” one said.

Seinfeld has been a vocal supporter of Israel, especially after October 7. He traveled to Tel Aviv to meet with families of hostages and has stated, “I will always stand with Israel and the Jewish people.”

In 2024, many students of the esteemed Duke University left their graduation ceremony on Sunday, some of them shouting “Free Palestine” when guest speaker, comedian Jerry Seinfeld, started giving a speech.

Seinfeld is a known Zionist who has shown support for Israel during the Gaza genocide and according to media reports, sent money to the violent counter-agitators who attacked pro-Palestine student protestors at UCLA. A video on social media shows students in graduation robes and hats leaving the ceremony. Some were holding Palestinian flags. The ceremony was held in the university’s football stadium in North Carolina. Reuters confirmed the date and place of the video.

One person wore a keffiyeh, a scarf often used to show support for Palestinians. Some others cheered “Jerry! Jerry!” when Seinfeld got an honorary degree. Seinfeld gave his speech without big interruptions.

Many of you are probably thinking, ‘I can’t believe they asked him to come.’ But it’s too late,” he said, promising to “defend” the idea of privilege. “I believe you should use your privilege. I grew up as a Jewish kid from New York. That’s a privilege if you want to be a comedian,” he added.

“We know that people feel strongly in our community, and just like we’ve done all year, we support everyone’s right at Duke to share their opinions peacefully. But we also want graduates and their families to enjoy their special day,” said Duke spokesperson Frank Tramble in a statement.

Seinfeld has been to Israel and openly supported it since October 7, when Israel started the genocide in Gaza. This action led to more than 35,000 deaths including 15,000 children, as reported by health officials.

The White House mentioned on Tuesday that President Joe Biden is okay with peaceful protests during college graduation ceremonies where he and other officials will speak. The walkout at Duke University’s graduation is the latest example of protests happening on US campuses. Students are asking universities to stop investing in companies that profit from war and to give amnesty to students and staff who have faced consequences for protesting.

Farhan, Urwa address ‘separation’ reports after years of silence

Married in 2016, singer-actor Farhan Saeed and actress Urwa Hussain are among the country’s most beloved celebrity couples.

In 2020, however, rumours circulated about a possible separation. The two never confirmed nor dismissed the speculations.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, the pair have broke their silence since their patch-up.

“One thing I really respect about her [Urwa] and what went really right in our situation was that despite whatever happened, we didn’t say or did anything to harm each other,” Farhan said.

As a guide to couples and couples-to-be, he said that “the biggest turn-off for any companion,” even if it is two friends or a relationship, is to talk “behind their back.”

Urwa added that while displeasure can exist, respect must be maintained at all times—something the two maintained while they were separated.

“Which is why we were and are always able to resolve things,” she said, to which Farhan agreed.

Urwa also asserted that amid the low points in a relationship, at times of misunderstanding,, “if you emerge out of it, I feel like you come back stronger”

To this Farhan said, “Rise in love, as they say.”
