Tears and Triumph: Palestinian girl’s story earns unforgettable standing ovation at Venice Film Festival

A powerful film depicting the heartbreaking final moments of a young Palestinian girl, Hind Rajab, has received a record-breaking standing ovation at the prestigious Venice Film Festival.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, “The Voice of Hind Rajab” was met with a standing ovation that lasted an astonishing 23 minutes and 50 seconds — the longest in the festival’s history.

The film centers on the tragic story of 5-year-old Hind, whose final pleas for help during an Israeli attack deeply moved global audiences earlier this year. Her voice, heard from beneath the rubble, became a symbol of unheard suffering in Gaza.

“This is not just a film,” said Ben Hania during the post-screening Q&A. “It is the voice buried under the rubble. The voice the world refused to hear.”

The film has already been hailed by international critics as “the most important film of the year”, and clips from the screening have gone viral across social media platforms, resonating deeply with audiences around the world.

“The Voice of Hind Rajab” is being praised not only for its raw emotional power but also for shining a light on the human cost of conflict and the voices that are too often silenced.

The film is expected to become a major contender in upcoming international awards circuit.

Meanwhile, the story of Hind Rajab is Tunisian — it’s Tunisia’s entry to the Academy Awards this year — but also has Hollywood stars Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara as executive producers alongside filmmakers Alfonso Cuarón and Jonathan Glazer. The American connection did not sit well with many, who called out Hollywood for its complacency.

Rajab’s mother hoped that the genocide in Gaza would end after the release of the film but the Israeli Defence Forces continue their killing spree in Gaza.

According to a post shared on social media, the singer was immediately shifted to the Regional Hospital in Skardu, where doctors stated that while both her arms were wounded in the attack, she is currently stable and out of danger.

Balouch, who rose to fame with her soulful rendition of Woh Humsafar Tha in the TV serial Humsafar, is currently touring Skardu to explore its breathtaking natural landscapes.

Deosai National Park, spanning over 3,000 square kilometers, is known for its rolling plains, sparkling streams, and vibrant wildflowers. Vidhu Vinod Chopra reveals he was slapped by his mother for gifting THIS actor a luxury car

In a tale straight out of a Bollywood script, renowned Indian film director Vidhu Vinod has revealed that he once gifted a INR4.5 crore (PKR14 Crore) luxury car to legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, only to be slapped by his own mother as consequence.

During an interview packed with revelations, the filmmaker, known for his big-budget productions and artistic sensibilities, recalled the unusual incident from the sets of one of his most ambitious films – Eklavya. As a token of appreciation for a cinema icon who had gone above and beyond for the project — including refusing any perks or star treatment — the director decided to splurge on a lavish automobile as a thank-you gesture.

But the surprise didn’t go as planned.

“I will never forget this incident. I took my mother with me when I was gifting the car to Amitabh. She handed him the keys. She came back, sat in my car, which was a blue Maruti van. She called Big B ‘Lamboo’. I didn’t have a driver at the time, so I was driving. She told me, ‘Tu Lamboo nu gaadi dedi [You gave the car to Lamboo?]’ I said, ‘Haan [Yes].’ She replied, ‘Tu khud kyun nahi leta gaadi [Why don’t you get a car yourself]?’ I told her I would buy a car when it was time. She responded, saying, ‘11 lakh ki toh hogi [Must at least be 11 lacs]’. And I laughed because she didn’t know that it was Rs 4.5 crores. I told her the cost, and she slapped me, calling me bewakoof [stupid]. I will never forget that because what is money if it can’t give you joy,” he said.

Eklavya wasn’t a major hit but the period drama was selected as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards. Chopra’s biggest success stories are Munna Bhai MBBS, PK and 3 Idiots, all of which were directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

‘Asal issue pai focus karein’: Nadia Hussain defends Samiya Hijab

Pakistani actor and model, Nadia Hussain has stepped forward to defend social media influencer Samiya Hijab, who has alleged that she was attacked by a man named Hassan Zahid.

Taking to her Instagram account, Nadia posted a video in which she said, “Abuse is abuse, doesn’t matter if the girl was in a relationship or married to the man. If it was in the starting of the relationship or in the end, even after 20 or 40 years, physical, emotional, verbal or financial abuse is absolutely unacceptable. What Samiya is saying is right.”

She also said that if the duo had a relationship in the past and now she does not want to continue with him, “it was her right.” She also added, “If a woman does not want to continue her marriage and wants a divorce just because her husband is abusive, she has a right to do that and get out of that relationship.”

“Whenever a woman is forced against her will, it is wrong. If a woman is threatened, raped or is physically abused, you cannot ask her to keep quiet.”

She also mentioned that society does not want women to speak up against these crimes because people cannot accept that a woman has a voice.

She urged people to focus on the main issue, which is “abuse” and don’t judge Samiya for being in a relationship with him in the past.

Earlier on Wednesday, Samiya took to her Instagram to break silence on her relationship with the suspect and hit out at trolls posting old pictures of the two, claiming she received gifts and cash from him.

Samiya said that no woman should be forced to remain in an abusive relationship or marriage. Samiya revealed that the man did propose to her but she made it clear that she would only get married after four or five years.

‘Bhutto India mein bhi zinda hai’: Internet react as PPP’s Dilan Teer Bija takes over India

Music has no boundaries and this has been proven many times in the past. But this time, a Pakistani political song – Dilan Teer Bija of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) – is trending in India and they are loving it.

While the song is being loved by the people of Indian Hyderabad who are dancing to it on wedding functions, content creators and the general public are taking to social media to talk about its virality, drawing reactions from netizens on either side of the border.

“Bhutto India mein bhi zinda hai,” wrote a Pakistani user.

One user on the Indian side revealed that the song was a hit in Mumbai too.

Another wrote that music had no border and language barrier and the song is universal.

The song Dilan Teer Bija [literally: an arrow to your heart] is a meaty ditty based on a funky, beat-heavy rendition of Baloch folk music, sung by Shabana Noshi and composed by Zahoor Khan Zeibi. The song was recorded in a music studio in Karachi’s Lyari at the height of what was called the ‘Lyari Disco Scene’ in the 1980s, as part of former Prime Minister (PM) Benazir Bhutto’s election campaign.

This song, originally in Balochi, is one of the oldest anthems that are still played at every public gathering of the PPP.

It was also played at the mehndi function of President Asif Ali Zardari and the late former PM Benazir Bhutto’s daughter Bakhtawar. Videos from the event showed the family and friends grooving to it.

While many remixes have been produced over the years, the melody of the original track is unmatchable. Even if you are not a supporter of the party, you can’t stop loving the song.

“People in our society are not even capable of having children and they are incapable of giving an upbringing. They are not worthy of it, because of their weak mental and physical state,” Sania said in a morning show.

While talking about the importance of upbringing of children, she added, “People should think before having children that if they are ready to have them? Are parents prepared to cope with the situation?”

  • Court extends Ducky Bhai’s physical remand for the fifth time

Court extends Ducky Bhai’s physical remand for the fifth time

A court in Lahore has extended the physical remand of popular Pakistani YouTuber Saad-ur-Rehman, popularly known as Ducky Bhai, for the fifth time, granting the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) two more days of custody.

Rehman is under investigation for allegedly promoting illegal gambling applications through his YouTube channel. The case was filed by the state on August 17 under multiple sections of Pakistan’s Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, including electronic fraud, forgery and spam, along with Pakistan Penal Code sections 294-B and 420.

During the court hearing, the NCCIA argued that forensic analysis of seized electronic devices is still going on.  Rehman’s lawyer contested the need for extended custody, claiming financial records could be obtained without detention and questioning the actual monetary harm caused to users.

Despite objections, Rehman stated through his lawyer that he had no issue with further remand if it helps complete the investigation. The court urged the agency to expedite its probe.

Meanwhile, the court ordered the agency to complete its investigation against the YouTuber as soon as possible.

It is expected that the agency will finalize its ongoing investigation during this remand and Rehman will be formally produced in court again at the end of this extended remand.

The outcome of the investigation may have broader implications for social media regulations and influencer accountability in Pakistan.

Earlier, Ducky Bhai had filed an appeal against a Lahore judicial magistrate’s decision to extend his physical remand to the NCCIA
