Islamabad police arrest influencer Samiya Hijab alleged harasser, kidnapper

Islamabad police have arrested a man on Monday for allegedly harassing and attempting to abduct social media influencer Samiya Hijab.

A statement from the police spokesperson said the action was taken after her complaint and video statement in which she claimed that she was attacked by a man who tried to kidnap her.

A case was registered in the capital’s Shalimar Police Station at her complaint under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 392 (punishment for robbery), 500 (punishment for defamation), 509 and 511 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The social media influencer said in the first information report that the suspect had been stalking her for several days. She also posted a video on her Instagram that this man has been harassing her.

She added that 6:30 pm on Sunday, an attempt was made to forcefully take her out of the house.

“Today’s incident further escalated when he attempted to forcibly abduct me from my house while I was returning his gifts. This amounts to abduction, harassment, and assault under the law. For evidence, I have CCTV footage,” she was quoted as saying in the FIR.

Samiya also took to Instagram to thank Islamabad police and mentioned that the suspect had threatened her to take her complaint back.

In her previous video, she said, “I am not one of those girls who cannot raise their voices for their rights.”

She also said that she does not want what happened to her “friend”, Sana Yousaf, to happen to her.

Earlier in June, the Islamabad police said they had arrested the main suspect in the murder case of 17-year-old social media influencer Sana Yousaf, a day after she was shot dead in her house.

Meanwhile, old pictures of Samiya and the alleged suspect are making rounds on social media in which they can be seen spending time together.

‘Not a superstar’: Babrik Shah throws shade at Humayun Saeed in latest podcast

Pakistani actor Babrik Shah has said that he does not believe Humayun Saeed is a superstar.

In a recent podcast appearance, Babrik shared his thoughts on Pakistani cinema and didn’t hold back from criticising some of its biggest names.

Taking a dig at The Legend of Maula Jatt lead actor Fawad Khan, he said the character lacked depth and intensity. “Fawad couldn’t deliver the role the way Maula Jatt’s character should’ve been portrayed. The essence and impact were missing,” he said.

He did praise Hamza Ali Abbasi for his performance in the film, but mocked Mahira Khan’s acting, stating that the rest of the cast appeared too “mummy-daddy”.

When asked about Humayun Saeed, he said, “Humayun made his debut in Inteha as a villain. Zeeshan Sikander was the lead, and the film was directed by Samina Peerzada. I watched it in the cinema when I was still young and not yet part of the industry. Later, he did No Paisa No Problem, which was a complete flop. Then he produced a movie himself, investing his own money. He took Ahsan Talish with him, cast several Indian actors, including Ahmed Ali Butt from Pakistan. The film was titled Aik Din Laut Ke Aaonga, but ironically, it never returned,” he quipped.

Babrik also mentioned Saeed’s other films such as Main Hoon Shahid Afridi, the Jawani Phir Nahi Ani series, the Punjab Nahi Jaungi series, and Love Guru. “He has done around 10 to 12 films. If you consider yourself a superstar after just a dozen movies, then Shaan should step down from his title, as he has done over 500 films.”

In response, the host asked whether it’s better to do 500 films with only a few hits or to have a shorter list of movies where each one is successful. Babrik replied, “If you calculate the success rate, Humayun’s hit ratio is only about 50 percent.”

He further criticised Saeed’s work, claiming his films were largely inspired by Indian cinema. “No one has truly worked to uplift Pakistani cinema or improve the industry. We used to have 500 cinemas in the country; now we’re down to just 29,” Babrik added.

He also said he himself has acted in over a hundred films and was now taking a break from the industry.

The interview comes shortly after Babrik criticised Imran Abbas during another media appearance. “He doesn’t even look like a hero. He has zero per cent filmy appeal,” he said, going on to rate Hamza Ali Abbasi a “seven out of ten” in terms of acting and calling Fawad Khan “overrated”.

  • Ducky Bhai challenges physical remand extension in gambling apps case

Ducky Bhai challenges physical remand extension in gambling apps case

YouTuber Saadur Rehman, popularly known as Ducky Bhai, has filed an appeal against a Lahore judicial magistrate’s decision to extend his physical remand to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in a case involving the promotion of illegal online gambling apps.

The appeal, submitted on Saturday through his lawyer Ch Usman Ali, was accepted for hearing by a sessions court, which issued a notice to the NCCIA and sought a response on Monday.

In his petition, Ducky Bhai argues that the magistrate failed to properly examine the facts before approving the remand extension and has requested the court to declare the order null and void.

The YouTuber has been in NCCIA custody since his arrest on August 17. On August 28, the magistrate extended his remand until September 1. He was arrested at Lahore airport after a case was filed against him under sections 13 (Electronic Forgery), 14 (Electronic Fraud), 25 (Spamming), and 26 (Spoofing) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, along with sections 294-B (Offering prize in connection with trade) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The case stems from a June 13 inquiry based on “reliable sources” alleging that YouTubers and social media influencers were promoting gambling and betting apps for monetary gain through their social media platforms.

Separately, the court granted an extension in pre-arrest bail to Ducky Bhai’s wife, Aroob Jatoi, until September 15. The sessions court barred the NCCIA from arresting her in the same case and ordered the agency to submit a detailed investigation report at the next hearing.

Aroob sought bail after receiving an NCCIA inquiry notice, expressing fear of arrest. She stated in her appeal that she was willing to cooperate and appear for questioning. This marks her second bail request; the court granted the first on August 21, after which she appeared before investigators.

  • NCCIA summons top YouTubers, influencers over massive online gambling scam

NCCIA summons top YouTubers, influencers over massive online gambling scam

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned several popular YouTubers and social media influencers for their alleged role in promoting large-scale financial scams tied to unlicensed online trading and gambling apps.

According to reports, the agency has directed Mudassar Hassan, Muhammad Anas Ali, Iqra Kanwal, and Muhammad Husnain Shah to appear in person at the NCCIA office in Lahore on September 2, 2025.

Investigators claim these influencers promoted illegal online trading and gambling apps, luring young people into unregulated betting platforms. Authorities say the influencers used social media to glamorize and legitimize the platforms, creating a coordinated scheme to defraud the public.

NCCIA warned that failure to appear will be treated as an admission of guilt or a forfeiture of the right to present a defense.

Whistleblower accounts and early findings reveal that the controversial platform “World 777” aggressively funded influencer campaigns, targeting thousands of Pakistanis particularly youth and drawing them into high-risk online gambling.

The list of influencers linked to the campaign includes high-profile names such as Mathira, Nadir Ali, Aimen Zaman, Varda Malik, Javeria Aurangzeb, Abeera Khan, Faryal Fairy, and Nauman Kazmi.

Officials estimate that billions of rupees leave Pakistan each month through these unregulated platforms, creating a shadow economy that threatens financial stability while fueling addiction and financial losses among vulnerable users.

In a related development, a Lahore court extended the physical remand of popular YouTuber Saadur Rehman, known as Ducky Bhai, for four more days in a similar case involving gambling app promotions. Authorities allege that he endorsed platforms like Binomo, 1xBet, Bet365, and B9 Game for financial gain. Investigators have collected 27 video links from his account featuring these promotions, many of which have since been deleted.

Ducky Bhai faces charges under multiple sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, including electronic forgery and fraud, as well as sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. He was arrested on August 16 at Lahore airport, and with the latest court order, he will remain in custody until at least September 1 as the investigation continues.
