Petition in Lahore court seeks blasphemy case against Rajab Butt

A petition has been filed in a Lahore sessions court against YouTuber Rajab Butt for allegedly using derogatory language about the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in a social media video.

According to reports, the petition was submitted by a citizen, Shehzada Adnan, through his counsel Mudassar Chaudhry. The petitioner claimed that one of Rajab Butt’s videos contained remarks that were disrespectful and offensive.

The plea stated that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had previously been approached to register a case, but no FIR was filed. The court has now been requested to direct the NCCIA to formally register a case against the YouTuber.

An Additional Sessions Judge has issued notices and sought a response on the matter.

This is not the first time Rajab Butt has found himself embroiled in legal trouble.

Earlier this month, Dolphin Force officials stopped Butt’s car in Lahore as part of a campaign against vehicles with black tinted windows across the city. During a routine check at Thokar Niaz Baig, a team led by DSP Mubashir Awan removed black paper from his car windows for violating traffic rules.

A Dolphin Force spokesperson said similar operations are being carried out city-wide to ensure compliance, while SP Arslan Zahid added that thousands of vehicles have already faced action and warned citizens to follow traffic laws.

In the past six to seven months, Rajab Butt has frequently landed in the headlines. In May, a video allegedly showing him and his associates assaulting a young man went viral. The victim later filed a request for legal action at Satu Katla Police Station, but Butt issued an apology, calling the incident a misunderstanding. The matter was later settled after the victim accepted the apology and withdrew the complaint.

In another case, an FIR was filed against Butt and his cousin Salman Haider. Haider was accused of rape, blackmail, and unlawful confinement, while Rajab Butt was alleged to have assisted in detaining the complainant and her sister. Butt was granted bail in that case, and the interim bail of co-accused Salman Haider was also extended by the court.

The YouTuber has previously left the country after a backlash for naming his perfume “295,” referencing the penal code section related to blasphemy, a highly sensitive issue in Pakistan.

In January, he was arrested just one day after his wedding for illegally possessing a lion cub and displaying weapons.

The YouTuber has also faced heavy trolling online when he, along with fellow YouTubers Ducky Bhai and Nadeem Nani Wala, launched an online course-selling website, which fans mocked since similar content is freely available on YouTube.

Most recently, after posting the controversial video, Rajab Butt shared an Instagram story while travelling by plane, saying, “If you want to become famous, do it outside Pakistan.”

Ahsan Khan calls for peace in face of Indian warmongers at British Parliament event

Pakistani actor Ahsan Khan recently attended a literary event at the British Parliament in London, where he was seen alongside Indian writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar and legendary actress Shabana Azmi.

During the event, Ahsan Khan delivered a message about peace, unity, and shared culture. In his speech, he said, “My dear friends Tariq Faizi, they always organise the best events, they gather everyone together, and this time too, I got the chance to participate here. I would like to thank everyone for being a part of this event.”

Speaking about the gathering, he added, “It looks so beautiful when we see people from different communities, different regions, and different countries coming together in one place and talking about love and peace. Because, as you mentioned earlier, all over the world you see that everything opposite to peace is happening, so it’s very important to talk about peace.”

He emphasized the importance of language in building bridges saying, “And I believe my purpose for coming here was only this, that I got the opportunity to meet such amazing people. Along with that, our language, the one I am speaking in right now, is understood everywhere, in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, UAE.”

Ahsan Khan also praised the blend of languages created through Indian cinema and Pakistani dramas saying, “I feel that Pakistani series and Indian cinema have created such a beautiful blend in this language, because it includes Hindi, Urdu, and our regional languages like Punjabi, Pashto, Sindhi, and then Bengali and many other languages all mixed together to make a kind of hybrid language.”

He added, “I believe this is a language we all understand and we enjoy it so much, whether it’s our TV series, cinema, poetry, music, conversations about an artist or actor, we watch it all with so much happiness.”

Ending his speech with a powerful note, he said, “The message should simply be, I feel, that just as everyone listens to this language and feels a sense of belonging through it, in the same way, it’s very important that we, no matter where we are representing ourselves from, we represent our countries too.”

“Just speak good things so that our words have an impact far and wide, and through this language, through cinema, through television, let’s always talk about peace,” he added.

The event took place at a time when political tensions between Pakistan and India have recently made headlines, especially following Javed Akhtar’s controversial statements about Pakistan earlier this year. Despite that backdrop, the gathering sent a strong message of cultural unity.

Other prominent personalities from both Pakistan and India were also present, along with British Parliament members, journalists, and literature enthusiasts. Ahsan Khan and Javed Akhtar also engaged in conversations about language, literature, and the shared cultural history of the region, highlighting the power of dialogue over division.

  • Humaira Asghar messaged for help but no one replied, investigation reveals

Humaira Asghar messaged for help but no one replied, investigation reveals

Authorities are expanding their investigation into the death of Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali to determine whether it was natural, accidental, a suicide, or a murder, according to reports.

Humaira was reportedly going through a severe financial crisis for months before her death and had tried to reach out for help.

According to reports citing the investigation team, Humaira approached at least 10 people, including her brother Salman, on October 7, 2024, sending them a WhatsApp message that read, “Hello, I want to talk to you,” but did not receive any response. Reports add that she also contacted close friends for financial assistance, but her requests went unanswered.

As per the investigators, the team has decided to question a total of 63 individuals, many of whom have already recorded their statements. The team is also analysing digital and forensic evidence gathered from Humaira’s mobile phones, tablet and laptop. Investigators found the device passwords written in her personal diary.

Sources said no medications were found at the scene and that Humaira’s hands were reportedly clutched to her chest when discovered. Her gym trainer told investigators that Humaira followed a strict fitness routine, working out three hours every day.

Humaira’s decomposed body was discovered on July 8, 2025, when Gizri Police, accompanied by a court bailiff, broke into her fourth-floor rented apartment in the Ittehad Commercial Area of Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) to enforce an eviction order. Her landlord had gone to court after Humaira failed to pay rent since April 2024.

According to neighbours, they noticed a foul odour coming from the flat, but the vacant apartment next door, which had been unoccupied until February 2025, likely delayed the discovery.

Both the main door and balcony door of the apartment were locked from the inside, which suggests Humaira was alone at the time of her death, according to the investigation team.

A theatre group in Karachi has gained widespread appreciation after staging the Hindu epic Ramayana with a modern touch. The performance at the Karachi Arts Council was presented by drama collective Mauj, combining tradition with artificial intelligence to enhance storytelling.

Director Yoheshwar Karera said he had no fear or hesitation in bringing Ramayana to the Pakistani stage. “To me, bringing the Ramayana to life on stage is a visual treat and shows the Pakistani society is more tolerant than it is often given credit for,” he said.

The play received praise from both critics and audiences for its creative presentation, live music, and strong performances. Art and film critic Omair Alavi said, “The narrative is top class as the Ramayana is a story that resonates with millions around the world.”

Rana Kazmi, who played Sita and also produced the play, explained her connection to the project: “I was intrigued by the idea of bringing the ancient tale as a living, breathing experience for audiences.”

The staging of Ramayana in a Muslim-majority country not only highlighted cultural openness but also caught the attention of Indian audiences, who flooded social media with positive reactions.

    One user wrote, “Open-minded Pakistan.”

Another commented, “In culture there is no place for religion. It will blossom.”

A user, sharing a personal note, commented, “So glad to read this. Being a Sindhi from Mumbai I am happy to see this. My parents and forefathers were from Karachi.”

Meanwhile, India’s own Ramayana adaptation by director Nitesh Tiwari is also in the spotlight. With Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana, the film is being made on a massive ₹1,600 crore budget and will release in two parts, Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027.

Olivia Rodrigo speaks out against Gaza genocide, encourages donations

American pop singer Olivia Rodrigo has spoken out about the genocide in Gaza, calling the situation “horrific and completely unacceptable.”

In a message posted on her Instagram Story, Rodrigo expressed her sorrow over the plight of Palestinians in Gaza. “Parents, children, and families in Gaza are facing starvation, dehydration, and are being deprived of essential medical care and humanitarian assistance,” she stated. She continued, “No child in Israel, Palestine, or in any corner of the globe deserves to suffer as these children are suffering. To give up on them is to give up on our shared humanity.”

Rodrigo shared that she has donated to UNICEF to help civilians affected by the conflict and encouraged others to contribute if they can.

This statement comes as Israel continues its attacks under its genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, killing over 58,000 Palestinians since October 7, 2023. The ongoing blockade and airstrikes have caused critical food shortages and restricted access to medical care in the area.

Rodrigo is not the only artist voicing her worries about the situation. Singer Lana Del Rey recently commented on Instagram, “We pray for Palestine daily. I long for peace among all nations.” Billie Eilish has also condemned Israel’s proposal to relocate Palestinians from Rafah, calling the notion “terrifying.”

Police reveal why neighbours didn’t notice Humaira Asghar’s death

Police have shared more details about the death of actress and model Humaira Asghar, revealing why her death went unnoticed for so long.

Speaking on a private TV program about Humara Asghar’s case, whose body was found in her apartment in Karachi’s DHA Phase 6 on July 8, DIG South Asad Raza explained, “The smell of a decomposing body can last for 5 to 40 days. But the family living in the flat next to hers was out of the country from October to February, which made it impossible for anyone to notice her death.”

He further shared that the room where Humaira’s body was found had an attached gallery, and the washroom window in the next room was open, which may have caused the smell to spread and disappear over time.

DIG added that an investigation is underway involving the flat management, the watchman, and neighbours.

The police claim that, as per their findings, Humaira died on October 7, 2024. “Three days later, the watchman tried calling her, but she didn’t respond. One of her friends also tried to contact her, but got no reply,” According to our records

Humaira Asghar’s body was discovered on July 8, when a court bailiff went to her flat for a case filed by the landlord over unpaid rent.

At first, reports suggested that the body had been there for 1 to 2 months. However, the post-mortem report revealed Humaira had been dead for 8 to 10 months, and her body was in the final stages of decomposition.
