Queen deeply upset with Harry, Meghan’s decision to quit front-line roles

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell resignation from front-line royal duties rocked the British monarchy, with reports suggesting Queen Elizabeth II had not been informed in advance.

The couple said they would now “balance” their time between Britain and North America and rip up long-established relations with the press.

In a short, terse response a short time later, a palace statement said discussions with Harry and Meghan were “at an early stage”.

“We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through,” the palace said.

Media reports said the couple made their shock statement – released on their Instagram account, own website and through Buckingham Palace’s email communications system – without notifying either Harry’s grandmother, the monarch, or father, the future king Prince Charles.

The mood in the palace was understood to be one of disappointment and even “hurt”, according the BBC.

The decision follows a turbulent year for the pair, who have admitted to struggling in the spotlight and growing apart from Harry’s brother Prince William.

They have also complained of negative news coverage and taken several papers to court, another unusual move.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the royal family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” they said.

“We have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.”

Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, are among the most senior, core members of the royal family, and, along with William and his wife Kate.

The couple spent six weeks over Christmas in Canada after speaking of the pressure of being in the spotlight following their fairytale wedding at Windsor Castle in May 2018.

They skipped the royal family’s traditional Christmas at Sandringham, the sovereign’s private estate in eastern England, spending the festive season instead with Meghan’s American mother Doria Ragland.

Rumours that all was not well with the Sussexes surfaced in October when Harry, sixth in line to the throne, admitted that he and William were “on different paths” and had good and bad days in their relationship.

“We don’t see each other as much as we used to,” Harry had said in an interview.

The couple also said they would no longer take part in the royal rota.

The rota system is an established arrangement between the palace and the press in which news organisations take turns covering events and then share the pictures, text and video with everyone else, avoiding the mass media scrambles of the past.

Instead the couple will attempt to invite only “specialist”, “grassroots”, “credible” and “young, up-and-coming” media to events.

DG ISPR Gen Asif Ghafoor praises Deepika for being ‘a brave person’

DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor praised #DeepikaPadukone for being a brave person and “standing both with youth and the truth.”

However, later he deleted his tweet for reasons unknown.

Deepika won the appreciation of the public after she visited Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to stand in solidarity with the students who were protesting after masked assailants wielding batons and iron rods attacked the university leaving more than two dozen injured.

According to an Indian journalist, the masked mob was linked to a BJP linked student group. They barged into hostel rooms and assaulted left-wing students and also beat up visually impaired people. There were reports that they were carrying acid as well.

Deepika’s presence at the protest signifies that she is most likely standing with them in protest of these BJP-linked attacks and not the tuition fees hike protests that had been happening at the university earlier. The hostel fee hike is an ongoing issue and protests were held against it previously.

Previously, in a media interaction when asked about the ongoing protests, Deepika had said that she is proud that the students are not scared of expressing themselves.

“I feel proud about it that people are coming out – be it on the streets or wherever they are – they are raising their voice and expressing themselves as it is important. If we want to see change in life and society, it is important that a point of view be put forward,” Deepika had said.

Meanwhile, several other Bollywood personalities including Vishal Bharadwaj, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dia Mirza, Rahul Bose, Richa Chadha and Taapsee Pannu led hundreds of people in a peaceful protest against the violence.

Following the attack by masked assailants wielding batons and iron rods at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University, leaving more than two dozen injured, India is in a state of conflict yet again. Controversy over Sunday’s violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) comes as a new challenge to the government as it confronts major nationwide protests against a new citizenship bill that critics say is anti-Muslim.

Students blamed the university attack on right-wing activists and also accused the police of doing nothing to stop the violence.

According to AFP, at least 28 students and teachers were injured in this attack, while doctors and nurses from a nearby hospital who went to treat them were also attacked.

The violence prompted several Bollywood actors to speak up on the matter while others including Vishal Bharadwaj, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dia Mirza, Rahul Bose, Richa Chadha and Taapsee Pannu led hundreds of people in a peaceful protest against the attack.

Taapsee Pannu, known for her roles in Pink, Manmarziyaan and Judwaa 2 also called for swift action to be taken against the perpetrators of violence. Sharing the news of Pakistan arresting the prime suspect in the Nankana attack case, Taapsee remarked that India should follow suit and do the same.

Taapsee’s tweet was liked by Sonam Kapoor.

Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone in a surprise move arrived at the scenes of the protest and extended her support to the students.

Award-winning filmmakers Anurag Kashyap couldn’t praise Deepika enough.

Others defended the actor after people claimed that this was a publicity stunt on her behalf because her film Chappak is releasing this Friday.

Meanwhile, others commented that she has more guts than all the Khans combined.

After BJP spokesman Tajinder Pal Singh called for a boycott of Deepika’s film #ISupportDeepika began to trend on Twitter.

As did Anil Kapoor, who while speaking to reporters had said, “It has to be condemned. It was quite sad, shocking, what I saw. It was very disturbing. I couldn’t sleep the entire night, thinking what has happened. It has to be condemned. Nothing will come out of violence. Whoever did this, they should be published.”

Nida Yasir reveals why she doesn’t allow male fans to take pictures with her

Pakistan’s number one morning show host Nida Yasir is anything but shy. She is full of energy, spunk and sass and is loved by millions of viewers across the world.

While Nida loves her audiences and is always willing to interact with them, in an exclusive interview with The Current revealed that she doesn’t allow male fans to take selfies with her.

When asked what is the worst thing about hosting a morning show, Nida, “You’re not left with any privacy. No matter where you go, to the bazaar or anywhere – I like to meet them [my fans] – but when I’m out with my guests and they have to stop and wait while I click pictures with my fans, I don’t like that,” adding that she can’t even say no.

Nida then shared that she never gets photographed by her male fans.

“It’s a rule,” she said. “The reason is because I have seen photographs of a lot of actresses on random pages with captions. They [other actresses] must’ve posed considering them their fans but the captions on Facebook etc say ‘Meet my friend, [XYZ].’”

“I don’t judge anyone ever since, but I’ll get photographed with families, with female friends, but not with male fans,” she remarked.

Adnan Malik opens up about depression and why he doesn’t act that much

We may not see much iof him on our television screens but Adnan Malik sure has made a mark ever since he made his television debut opposite Mahira Khan in Sadqay Tumharay. The immensely popular drama was directed by Mohammed Ehteshamuddin and written by Khalil ur Rehman Qamar and based on his own life story.

Brother of Baaji director Saqib Malik, Adnan has only a handful of projects under his belt, but each one of them have been meaningful and offbeat – for instance Cake, which was also his last project. Apart from that, the actor is popular for his woke and eloquent comments.

While we wondered why Adnan is missing from the scene, the actor took to social media to pen an emotional note in which he narrated his life story, his battle with low self-esteem, how he ended up doing Sadqay Tumharay and why he doesn’t want to do just any project.

“I see acting as a way to honour myself, to connect to a deeper spiritual self and a way to confront my own demons. I can’t take it lightly.”

Golden Globes 2020: Joaquin Phoenix wins best actor but Brad, Jen steal the spotlight

Joaquin Phoenix, who played a terrifying Joker in 2019’s blockbuster Joker may have taken home the award for the best actor at the annual Golden Globes, but it was actually Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston who stole the spotlight as fans anticipated their public reunion. The two have rarely crossed paths in public since their split.

Brad and Jennifer, who were married from 2000 to 2005, made their red carpet appearance approximately 20 minutes apart, each selectively working the press line. The two were also nominated for Golden Globe Awards – while Jennifer was nominated in the best actress category for her work on The Morning Show, Pitt was nominated for best supporting actor for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Brad said, “I’ll run into Jen; she’s a good friend. The second most important reunion of her year.”

    Jennifer Aniston

Interestingly, the Pitt/Aniston attention didn’t end on the red carpet.

As Pitt was telling a joke about his mom after his win for best supporting actor, the camera shot to Aniston, who was watching intently.

“I wanted to bring my mom, but I couldn’t because anyone I stand next to, they say I’m dating,” he said. “So it’d just be awkward.”
