‘Name one’; Faysal Quraishi shuts down criticism over repetitive dramas

Actor Faysal Quraishi recently appeared on Hasna Mana Hai alongside Sonya Hussyn and Samina Peerzada, where he did not hold back when an audience member remarked that Pakistani dramas and films are repetitive.

A young woman from the audience asked Quraishi whether his new film Deemak was any different, given that “all plays and films seem the same.”

In response, Quraishi challenged the claim head-on: “Name a few dramas that are based on the same story,” he asked.

The woman could not name any specific titles but insisted that most dramas revolve around conflicts between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law. To this, he replied, “For the last three years, we haven’t made dramas based on saas-bahu stories.”

He continued, “This idea that all dramas are the same is simply wrong. Every drama is different.” He cited examples such as Ishq Murshid, Dunyapur, Kabuli Pulao, and his current show, Bahrupiya, as evidence of the industry’s diversity.

Quraishi also defended Pakistani cinema, saying, “All films are different too. Humayun Saeed’s films are different, Fahad Mustafa’s films are different, and my new film Deemak is different.” He referenced older hits like Jawaani Phir Nahi Aani and Punjab Nahi Jaungi, emphasising that none of them follow the same formula.

His defence sparked a debate online, with many viewers applauding his stance.

‘Doesn’t bother me’; Humayun Saeed on criticism about playing hero

Actor Humayun Saeed recently appeared on the Gup Shab show with Vasay Chaudhry, alongside fellow actor Mahira Khan, where he addressed the frequent criticism he receives for continuing to play lead roles in films, even after all these years.

When the host asked, “Do you cast actors in a way that no one can outshine you?” Humayun smiled, stating, “I’ve always cast the best talent, like Fahad Mustafa and Hamza Ali Abbasi. But maybe people still criticise me because I’ve been playing the hero for years, and I’m still doing it.”

He added, “Let them talk, I honestly don’t mind.”

An audience member asked, “Why is Ahmed Ali Butt in every one of your films? Is it because you consider him your lucky charm?” Humayun replied, laughing, “Yes,” and added, “Ahmed Ali Butt is the funniest actor in the industry. I work with him because he genuinely cracks me up.”

Addressing the perception that Pakistani films are mere copies of Bollywood, Humayun clarified, “Most people assume our films are inspired by Bollywood, but that’s not true at all. Their opinion usually changes once they actually watch the film.”

When asked about his preferred collaborators, he said, “If it’s a comedy, I’d go with Vasay Chaudhry. But if it’s serious, or roony wala, my top choice is Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.”

Humayun Saeed’s latest film, Love Guru, was released a day before Eid-ul-Adha. It’s a romantic comedy in which he stars alongside Mahira Khan. In the movie, he plays a charming lover, and audiences are praising the film for its humour, romance, and the on-screen chemistry between the two stars.

The movie is directed by Nadeem Baig and was produced on a budget of Rs 25 crore. Several actresses have also made guest appearances in the film.

‘Too old to dance’: Mahira, Humayun hilariously respond to mean brutal trolls

Actors Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed have responded to online criticism in the most entertaining and graceful way, winning the hearts of their fans during promotion for their new movie Love Guru.

The duo appeared on various platforms during the promotional campaign of the film, turning every moment into viral content. Their interviews and video clips have been making rounds on social media, especially one where they read out negative comments and respond with laughter and charm.

One user commented, “Is burhapy mein in dono se dance karwana zulm hai [It’s cruel to make them dance at this old age.]”

Mahira burst into laughter and even partially agreed while Humayun responded with a witty comeback, “There is a lot of passion, so we will continue to dance — and the real fun is in dancing at this age!”

Mahira went on to add that actual cruelty was making them dance in the heat.

Another troll targeted the film’s visual quality, saying that the cast looked just like they do in real life, implying poor lighting or production. To this, Humayun shot back, “By the way, this time everyone is saying that we all look fresh, it seems like a lot of money has been spent on production. Perhaps the commenter has watched some other film.”

A particularly harsh comment targeted Mahira, saying, “This old woman’s actions never end.” In response, Humayun joked, “They can’t end, they have been ingrained since childhood!” Mahira, laughing along, added, “Yes! It’s not possible for the actions to end!”

Love Guru, which is screening across the country, is receiving mixed reviews with some calling the film a mere money-making venture and others praising it.

Deemak spooks audiences with record-breaking opening

Pakistan’s biggest horror film Deemak has achieved remarkable success in its first week of release, setting a new milestone in the history of the country’s cinema.

The film, created in collaboration with Geo Films, has reportedly already grossed over an estimated Rs60 million and continues to dominate the box office amid overwhelming audience appreciation.

Viewers are praising the film for its gripping storyline, suspenseful sequences, terrifying visuals and use of cutting-edge technology. “The story, suspense, scary scenes and use of modern technology make Deemak completely unique from other horror films,” said one viewer in a social media post.

Written by Syed Murad Ali and directed by Rafay Rashdi and Ayesha Muzaffar, the film combines horror and thrill with powerful commentary on social issues.

At its core, Deemak doesn’t just aim to scare but it also sheds light on emotional trauma, generational neglect, domestic abuse, denial and the complex dynamics between women in a household, particularly the strained relationship between a daughter-in-law and mother-in-law. Set against the backdrop of a haunting, the film uses horror as a metaphor for internal decay exploring how unresolved emotional wounds and suppressed tensions can slowly destroy families from within.

Deemak features Faisal Qureshi and Sonia Hussain in lead roles, supported by legendary actors Samina Pirzada, Javed Sheikh, Bushra Ansari and other artists.

Turkish actor Engin Altan Düzyatan often speaks fondly about Pakistan, and in a recent interview, he shared some interesting and funny moments from his visit to the country.

Düzyatan is famously known for playing the role of Ertugrul in the Turkish drama series Diriliş: Ertuğrul in Pakistan after the drama was dubbed in Urdu and aired on PTV in 2020. The show gained massive popularity not only in Pakistan but also in India and Bangladesh.

In his recent interview, he shared, “My visit to Pakistan was truly amazing,” noting that “Pakistani people love the Ertugrul series.”

He recalled his visit to Pakistan during the coronavirus pandemic. “I once visited Karachi during COVID. Interestingly, no one in Pakistan seemed to believe in the virus. They kept saying it was a lie and that no one dies of it. And, surprisingly, no one was dying there.”

The Turkish actor also shared a fan encounter. “I had just arrived in Pakistan and was unpacking my luggage in my room when suddenly a bunch of people walked in. Indian police arrest popular Sikh YouTuber over allegations of links to Pakistan

Indian police have arrested popular Sikh YouTuber Jasbir Singh on charges of spying for Pakistan on Tuesday.

According to reports, Sikhs in India are once again being targeted by the Narendra Modi- led government.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav has alleged, “YouTuber Jasbir Singh was associated with a Pakistani network,” adding that the network was also in contact with travel vlogger Jyoti Malhotra and Shakir alias Jatt Nandwa.

Indian media, already under intense global scrutiny for the disinformation it disseminated during the stand-off with Pakistan, has claimed that Jasbir Singh visited Pakistan in 2020, 2021, and 2024 and that phone numbers linked to Pakistan were found on his mobile device.

Indian outlets further accused Jasbir Singh, the creator of the Jan Mahal YouTube channel, of being part of a covert network, alleging that he was also in contact with “Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish.”

Modi government appears to be targeting expressions of Sikh identity on social media by labelling them as acts of espionage. Sikh YouTubers and digital activists are reportedly under strict surveillance.

Not only are accounts being shut down and posts being deleted for expressing Sikh identity online but supporters of Sikhs for Justice are also being booked under harsh laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Cases of treason are being registered for merely speaking the word Khalistan, and ordinary Sikh citizens in Indian Punjab are increasingly being placed on intelligence watch lists.

In May, Indian vlogger Jyoti Malhotra, who runs the channel’ Travel with Jo’, was also arrested on similar charges. Days after Pakistan’s Operation Bunyan Um Mursoos hammered Indian military targets, officials detained six of their own citizens, including Malhotra, accusing them of being in touch with the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi.
