Prince William’s salary for 2023 revealed

Different media sources have revealed Britain’s future King, Prince William’s salary. They claim that the British royal earned a whopping $31 million in the year 2023 in his new role as the owner of the Duchy of Cornwall estate, which he inherited when King Charles III became the monarch.

An Annual Integrated Report published by the Duchy of Cornwall shows a distributable surplus of £23.6 million ($30.4 million) for the last financial year 2023-2024.

This amount covers the official, charitable and private expenses of Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three children.

Prince William is a working member of the royal family who doesn’t receive a traditional income. So, his annual expenses are largely covered by the Duchy of Cornwall, an estate established by King Edward III in 1337 to provide funds for the heir to the throne.

The estate is worth over $1 billion, spans 130,000 acres across 23 counties in England and Wales and includes land, farms, houses and other assets to support the heir and his family.

However, the Prince pays income tax on all his earnings from the estate after subtracting household expenses, which have not been specified.
When King Charles acceded to the throne in 2022, Prince William became the new Duke of Cornwall and head of the estate.

  • Man kills five-year-old son of woman he wanted to marry

Man kills five-year-old son of woman he wanted to marry

A young man claiming to be in love with a married woman kidnapped and killed the woman’s five-year-old son in the suburbs of Sargodha.

A police report reveals that the suspects kept sending messages to the woman’s husband through an anonymous phone saying, “If you want the child back, divorce your wife,” even though he had murdered the child by then.

However, the police have arrested the suspect after about nine months.

Five-year-old Shahzeb’s father, Rehman Ali, worked as a labourer while the mother was allegedly romantically involved with the suspect Mukarram.

Police investigations reveal that the mother of the five-year-old had an extra-marital affair with Mukarram. It is claimed that she had left her husband and children several times to elope with Mukarram, as they wanted to marry each other. However, Mukrram’s parents were not ready to accept the woman’s condition that the young boy Shahzeb would also stay with them.

Mukarram then abducted the toddler, seeing him as an obstacle to the marriage, but strangled him afterwards and threw the body into a canal.

Mobile data investigations have confirmed that Mukarram turned out to be Shahzeb’s killer.

Shahzeb’s mother was completely unaware of her son’s murder.

The five-year-old was kidnapped in September last year, and the suspect was arrested after nine months of raids and investigation, which, according to the police, was a big success.

  • Police brutality on British-Pakistanis provoke protests in Manchester

Police brutality on British-Pakistanis provoke protests in Manchester

Several videos of an armed UK cop holding a taser over a man lying face down on the floor are going viral on social media. The cop can be seen striking the man twice while other officers shout at onlookers in Manchester Airport.

Onlookers can be heard shouting in the video as the cops proceed to kick and stamp on the man’s heads. The chaotic scene continued as another person is heard yelling “move back”, while a female officer is seen turning her taser towards other individuals present.

Other voices in the video plead, “Stop kicking people”, and a slew of expletives as multiple officers surround the men on the ground.

Reports suggest the men being beaten by police officers are British Pakistanis.

Videos of two young men who were arrested and then released by the police have also emerged online. Their lawyer has confirmed that Fahir and Ammad were assaulted by the police at the airport in front of their mother who could be seen protecting one of them in the video that went viral. The lawyer claimed that they were arrested by the police and upon their release they themselves went to the hospital for first-aid whereas it was the duty of the police to provide them with medical help. The lawyer stressed that a “complaint has been filed against the police officers that have assaulted both Fahir and Amaad and their elderly mother who was just there as a bystander”.

The same Twitter thread claimed that someone at the airport had hit the trolley of the boys’ mother, and this escalated a fight, adding that the boys were released by the police because of the lack of evidence.

Dawn’s Atika Rehman reports that the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon (July 24).

Greater Manchester Police responded to the viral video by saying that an armed officer had been attacked while attempting to arrest someone, following a fight in Terminal 2 of the airport on Tuesday.

Police issued a statement following the release of the video on social media that four men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting emergency service workers.

The police said that a female officer suffered from a broken nose, and other officers required hospitalisation.

BBC News quoted Assistant Chief Constable Wasim Chaudhry as saying: “We know that a film of an incident at Manchester Airport that is circulating widely shows an event that is truly shocking, and that people are rightly extremely concerned about. The use of such force in an arrest is an unusual occurrence and one that we understand creates alarm.”

The IOPC said it would assess GMP’s referral “and decide what further action is required”.

A protest was held following the footage release where one of the protesters had told the crowd they were “no longer going to settle” for “police brutality”, the Manchester Evening News reported.

People from the British-Pakistani community expressed their disappointment at the police for mistreating the boys. A criminal lawyer in UK, Attik Malik posted a video of him expressing the disgust he felt after the videos and pronounced, “enough is enough.”

Another user pointed out that, “this cannot be challenged. This is absolutely brutal and disgusting.”

Pakistani visa fee to be waived off for 126 countries

The federal government has announced visa-free entry for citizens of 126 countries.

A federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was presented with a report on the implementation of federal policies for the years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.

The cabinet approved the issuance of digital visas for citizens of 126 countries. Sources indicate that individuals coming from these countries for business and tourism purposes will enjoy visa-free entry.

The federal cabinet also endorsed a Ministry of Interior summary proposing visa-free entry for investors from friendly nations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted significant changes in the visa regime, emphasizing that the number of countries exempted from visa fees has now increased to 126. He underscored that investors and tourists from Western countries will also benefit from this waiver.

Sharif remarked on concerns regarding potential revenue loss from visa fees, stating, “I believe that waiving visa fees will attract more investment to Pakistan, resulting in greater overall benefit.”

The Prime Minister added that the implementation of E-Gate systems will commence in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad in the initial phase. He anticipated an increase in religious tourism due to E-Gate implementation, contributing to economic stability and bolstering foreign exchange reserves.

Additionally, the Federal Cabinet approved the establishment of special courts under the SECP Act of 1997.

The meeting sanctioned the signing of an MoU between Pakistan and Denmark, an increase in the Privatization Commission Board’s membership, and the appointment of the Chairman of the Abandoned Waqf Property Board.

  • Five French tourist attractions transformed into Olympic grounds

Five French tourist attractions transformed into Olympic grounds

    1. Eiffel Tower

The most famous of the Paris landmarks, the Eiffel Tower, will welcome beach volleyball. The action will take place in a temporary venue near the foot of the “Iron Lady”. Next door, the Champs de Mars park at the foot of the tower will host judo and wrestling.

Reviled by some Parisians when it was unveiled in 1889 for the World Fair by engineer Gustave Eiffel, the Eiffel Tower has become the capital’s symbol. Besides being one of the world’s top tourist attractions, pulling in seven million visitors a year, it is also a working telecoms tower, used for radio and TV transmissions.

Winners at the Paris Games will all go home with a small part of the iron colossus. Each medal will contain an 18g crumb of original iron, removed during renovations, melted down and reforged.

    2. Grand Palais

Fencing and taekwondo battles will take place in the opulent setting of the Grand Palais exhibition hall, a glass-and-steel masterpiece created for the World Fair of 1900. Its distinctive feature is its glass-domed roof, the largest of its kind in Europe, which covers a cavernous exhibition space of 13,500 square metres.

During World War I, the Grand Palais put its art collection in storage and converted its galleries into a military hospital where soldiers were patched up before returning to the trenches. In the 21st century, the airy nave has hosted giant installations commissioned from some of the world’s leading artists. It has also been flooded to make the biggest ice rink in the world.

    3, Place de la Concorde

The vast, paved square at the foot of the Champs-Elysees avenue, where heads rolled (literally) during the French Revolution, will serve as an urban sports hub.

Skateboarding, 3×3 basketball, BMX freestyle and, in its first Games appearance, breakdancing, will all take place on the elegant square by the Seine. Its harmonious name conceals a bloody past. King Louis XVI and his wife Marie-Antoinette were guillotined there in 1793 during the Reign of Terror that followed the 1789 French Revolution. The largest square in Paris is defined by its huge gold obelisk, one of a pair originally erected by Ramses II outside the temple in Luxor in Egypt. It was gifted to Paris in 1830.

    4. Palace of Versailles

Dressage, showjumping and equestrian cross country will take place in the park of Versailles Palace, some 20 kilometres from Paris. It will also feature on the marathon circuit and host pentathlon events.

In the 17th century, “the Sun King” Louis XIV transformed Versailles into a home of French royalty, where he resided with around 10,000 staff. The vast gardens include a mile-long canal that once hosted opulent parties. It has been a world heritage site since 1979 and is a firm favourite on the Paris tourist trail.

    5. Marseille

The Olympics are spreading beyond the capital. Sailing contests will take place in the Mediterranean city of Marseille, France’s boisterous second city, better known as the home of Olympique Marseille football team.

Over 300 sailors from across the world will battle it out on the sapphire Mediterranean waters off the city. A marina has been built along the scenic Corniche coastal road heading southeast out of the city. It’s unlikely they’ll have the sometimes ferocious mistral wind in their sails. It usually blows in winter and spring.

Marseille, which will also host 10 football matches, was where the Olympic torch landed in France on May 8 on its relay to Paris.
