    An additional sessions court in Kollam found a man guilty of killing his wife by making a cobra bite her while she was asleep.     Uthra’s father told the court he met all of Kumar’s demands and also paid him 8,000 rupees ($107) per month to take care of his daughter.
    But Kumar grew “dissatisfied” with Uthra’s learning disability, according to the judgment.

    He began to plot her death.

    The prosecution submitted that Sooraj, 27, killed Uthra, 25, last year for her gold jewellery, and to marry another woman. The court found Sooraj guilty under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 328 (causing hurt by poison) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) in May 2020.

    Uthra spent 52 days in Pushpagiri Hospital in the Kerala town of Thiruvalla recovering from the viper bite, and when she was finally released to her parent’s care on April 22 2020, she was unable to walk.

    As she lay in bed, her leg bandaged after skin grafts, Sooraj decided to strike.

    On May 6, just 15 days after she had left hospital, he smuggled another snake that he had bought from snake handler Chavarukavu Suresh into her parent’s house. This time it was a cobra.

    Before going to bed, Kumar gave Uthra a glass of juice laced with sedatives, according to the judgment. As she slept, Kumar threw the serpent at her, but the reptile didn’t bite, so he grabbed its head and forced its fangs deep into her left arm twice.

    Despite his efforts to make it appear as an accident, a number of clues suggested the bites weren’t natural from the width of the fang marks, the position of the bites, and the impossibility that the cobra had entered the room on its own.

    Police exhumed the cobra and conducted an autopsy to confirm that the same snake had bit Uthra.

    The snake-handler Suresh was also arrested for allegedly supplying the snakes to Sooraj.

    A 45-year-old man, declared ‘dead’ following a road accident, was found alive after spending a night in the freezer of a hospital morgue, Indian media has reported.

    The man named Srikesh Kumar was admitted to a clinic in a critical condition after he met with an accident. He was declared dead by a doctor. “The emergency medical officer examined him. He did not find any signs of life and hence declared him dead,” Mr Rajendra Kumar, the hospital’s medical superintendent, told AFP on Sunday.

    His body was placed in a morgue freezer for six hours until his family and the police arrived. “When a police team and his family came over to initiate the paperwork for the autopsy, he was found alive,” said Kumar.

    “This is nothing short of a miracle,” he added. As per reports, the man is in a coma.

    Moti Singh Chauhan from Ahmedabad shed 10 kg for a very special reason and that is to commit a burglary, reports News 18.

    During police interrogation, he revealed that he ate only once a day for three months continuously, which enabled him to slim down and slide through a ventilator.

    According to the news outlet, two years ago, 34-year-old Singh was working at the house in Bhopal. He had gathered information about where the valuables were kept and he was also aware of the location of cameras.

    His former employers told the police that he would skip his dinner often.

    The local police found him in the footage of a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera of a hardware shop where he had gone to buy a trowel and a saw to cut the glass of the kitchen window to get inside the house.

    He managed to steal INR 37 lakh from the house on November 5, the police said.

    He further said the government remains committed to protecting every child from poverty, violence, and abuse.

    Prime Minister Imran Khan in a separate message said the government is determined to ensure that every child’s rights, including development, education, healthcare, participation, dignity and security are upheld.

    PM Khan said that in order to ensure protection of children’s rights, the government established “National Commission of the Rights of Child” and the “Zainab Alert Response and Recovery Agency”.

    He said that Child Protection Institutes are being established and various legislations are being introduced to eliminate child labour.

    Thirty buildings across Pakistan will be turned blue to mark Children’s Day. The initiative has been taken by UNICEF Pakistan in collaboration with Ministry of Human Rights of Pakistan. Pakistan has set a world record in the number of buildings turning blue on November 20 since 2019. Since 2018, buildings, monuments and landmarks across the world have turned blue to mark World Children’s Day as part of a global initiative led by UNICEF.

    As per social research company, Pulse Consultant, there are 92 million children in Pakistan below the age of 14 years. There are 26.5 million children within the age group of 1 to 4 years, and 26.7 million within the age group of 5 to 8 years

    Persephone Rizvi, from England’s Huddersfield town has revealed to BBC how Islam “saved” her life. Rizvi started by explaining that she used to party a lot. “The party wouldn’t stop until four or five AM in the club.”

    She went on to add that she was struggling to see a purpose in her life and she wanted to do better for herself. “I was using alcohol as my coping mechanism and going through emotionally-draining experiences that I couldn’t really make sense of. I was struggling to see a purpose in my life and I wanted to do better for myself. I didn’t know what I was doing,” said Rizvi adding, “So I became a Muslim.”

    She then opened about her journey of becoming a Muslim. “One of my friends there, Haleemah, was Muslim. I did the Ramadan fast with her, and that was my first exposure to Islam. I wasn’t thinking about joining a religion at that point – it was more of a personal challenge. My ego was saying, ‘It’s 30 days of fasting, I can do that.’”

    “When I first fasted I was still partying and drinking, but my attitude started to change. I started having these moments of, ‘I am better than this, I’m worth more.’ That month of abstinence made me feel a sense of selflessness and gratitude, and gave me the self-care package I needed so desperately. That was my calling card to Islam.”

    “My dad is Black British and went to (a Christian) church, and my mum wanted us to have a knowledge of faith, but they didn’t force it on us. There aren’t any practicing Muslims in my family,” she said while talking about her family. “My parents are super supportive – they’ve actually fasted with me a few times,” she said.

    She continued by saying that when she became a Muslim, she did not tell anyone until one day she went into her house with her headscarf on and said, “I’m Muslim now!”

    Her parents were shocked to see her in a headscarf but they were not unhappy.

    Rizvi then continued by talking how wearing a headscarf changed her life. “I feel more comfortable. I can get from A to B without anyone stopping me – the way I used to dress, I used to get stopped loads. On a ten-minute walk to uni, I got stopped about five times. Men now don’t bother me at all.”

    “That’s why I say Islam saved me, because now I know the best way for me to handle those dark times. I wouldn’t have coped this way, by praying and taking care of my mental health as well as physical, if it wasn’t for Islam,” said Rizvi while talking about how Islam saved her.

    PTA lifts ban on TikTok

    The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has lifted a ban from TikTok, the authority said in a tweet. “PTA has restored the services of TikTok on assurances of the Platform to control immoral / indecent content.”

    PTA further added, “As a result of continuous engagement, senior management of the platform assured PTA of its commitment to take necessary measures to control unlawful content in accordance with local laws and societal norm

    TikTok has assured PTA that the users who are continuously involved in uploading unlawful content will be blocked from using the platform. “Keeping in view the assurances, the Authority has decided to lift the ban on TikTok forthwith,” said PTA in a statement

    “PTA will continue to monitor the platform in order to ensure that unlawful content contrary to Pakistan’s law and societal values is not disseminated.”

    Earlier, on November 3, TikTok Head of Public Policy-Emerging Markets and Head of Global CSR, Helena Lersch, along with her team visited the (PTA) headquarters. During the meeting PTA agreed to work with TikTok to build a framework to guarantee that all content shared on the site is legal and safe for society.

    TikTok was banned for the fourth time in Pakistan on July 21, 2021 for its failure to take down “inappropriate content”.

    A mentally challenged girl has allegedly been raped in Jhelum, reports Geo Urdu.

    Inspector-General (IG) Punjab Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan has taken notice of the incident and demanded a report.

    Rao Sardar has also reportedly directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Jhelum to arrest the accused and to assure the girl’s family of all possible cooperation.

    The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) assembled a group of Islamic experts on Thursday who issued a fatwa (ruling) declaring smoking impermissible, undesirable and unlawful due to its negative consequences of health, reports Dawn.
    




    The Islamic experts were gathered at a conference that was organised by Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (Sparc) in collaboration with (CII).
    




    It was noted that increasing lethal effects of smoking are increasing in the society.
    




    Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Khan said that in a youthful country like Pakistan, the impact of smoking will be magnified as the population ages and develops a variety of health problems linked to tobacco use, such as chronic lung and heart disease, as well as practically all cancers.
    




    He further said that in the absence of changes in tobacco taxation for years, policy planning to check tobacco consumption and meet international targets needs urgent revision.
    




    Chairman of CII Qibla Ayaz while addressing the audience talked about a saying of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and added that smoking is not only a danger to oneself but to others as well, as cigarettes have proved to be a source of several diseases, both for smokers and those exposed to second-hand smoke.
    




    He stated that, in light of the dangers of cigarettes, the CII and other major Islamic scholars present at the meeting agree that smoking falls into the category of behaviours that must be avoided under Islamic law.

    After an official ban on Muslim prayers at open places in India’s Gurugram city near New Delhi, a local organisation taking care of gurdwaras, holy places of the Sikh religion, has announced opening the doors of a gurdwara for Muslims.
    




    Hindu extremists have been protesting against the Muslims’ act of offering Friday prayers at open places outside mosques for the last several weeks. As Muslims in larger numbers swarm to mosques to say their weekly Friday prayers, mosques mostly cannot accommodate these big numbers of worshipers and they have to use the open places outside the mosques to say their prayers.
    




    Keeping in view the protests by Hindu extremists, the local authorities in Gurugram city have stopped Muslims from using the open places outside the mosques to offer their Friday prayers and cancelled the permission letters issued earlier in this regard.
    




    Hindu extremists have also been disrupting the Muslim Friday prayers at open places by raising their religious slogans.
    




    Last week, Hindu extremists filled an open place with cow dung where Muslims were going to say their Friday prayers the next day. They said they wanted to turn that place into a volleyball court.
    




    Against this backdrop, an organisation associated with gurdwaras of the Sikh religion has come forward and announced opening a gurdwara in Gurugram so that Muslims can offer their Friday prayers there.
    




    Harteerath Singh, Community Development Director at Hemkunt Foundation, wrote on Twitter, “Gurgaon’s Sadar Bazaar Gurudwara is now open for our Muslim brothers to offer their daily namaz keeping in mind the recent events that took place in the city.”
    




    Despite of death threats, he said that he will “always stand up for truth and sewa (help).”

    Thousands of Sikh pilgrims will attend the 552nd birth anniversary commemorations in Kartarpur today. An 18-member delegation led by Indian Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh entered Pakistan from the Kartarpur corridor on Thursday.
    




    Prime Minister Imran Khan has also extended felicitations to Sikhs.
