Kid, who was spotted driving SUV, says he went out to get ice cream

The boy whose video driving a Land Cruiser in Multan went viral earlier this week says that he took the vehicle out for a ride because he felt like having ice cream.

When asked by a reporter, the kid said he drove to several places to get the ice cream but couldn’t find any, so he decided to head back home. According to the kid, this was not the first time that he drove this vehicle.

“My father didn’t scold me,” said the kid in response to a question. He only said that “I shouldn’t drive [at this age] again”.

The kid’s father said he was sleeping when his son took the key of the vehicle from his bedside. “When I woke up and couldn’t find the key, I took my driver and went out to look for the kid,” he said, adding that the kid was returning home when “we came across him”.

He also said that he went to the police voluntarily.

On Friday, the father of the kid was fined Rs 1,000 for negligence. He has also submitted an affidavit to the police stating that the incident occurred due to his negligence and will not happen again. The man and his son were allowed to go home after submitting surety bonds.

Multan: Woman declared dead by hospital returns to life a day later

A woman pronounced dead at Multan’s Nishtar Hospital has come back to life and walked away a day later.

According to reports, the woman, who was brought to hospital for a gunshot wound after getting caught in crossfire, was declared dead on Tuesday and is currently being treated for her injuries after spending one night “dead”.

Doctors are providing her proper treatment and investigating whether declaring her dead was a mistake or if she has really returned to life as in a rare situation called Near Death Experience (NDE).

In NDE people, for all intents and purposes, die but return to life.

Nishtar Hospital Emergency Director Dr Amjad Chandio claims the woman was not pronounced dead in the emergency room, but a death certificate was issued by the hospital.

“It is being investigated whether a blunder was committed and by whom,” he said.

  • Why are The Current’s followers not with the one they love?

Why are The Current’s followers not with the one they love?

The Current recently asked its followers some hard-hitting questions and the answers left us quite sad. This was done via a ‘This or That’ poll that goes up in the morning every day in Instagram stories.

We asked people if they think our society is easy to live in? 71% voted that the society is ‘so suffocating’  and we totally agree with your answer.

We also asked why is our society is so suffocating. Here is what our followers thought:

Society is more judgemental about ‘Aurat ghar main rahay’ or ‘Ye kesi naukri hai?’. This one was pretty close.

We also asked for the solution to this problem. 62% of our followers thought that education could help in making our society less judgmental.

Nobody can disagree with that the food is the ultimate catharsis.

This actually made us sad to know that most of the people are not with the one they love.

And the sadder part is that the family is the reason behind it.

41% of our followers are of the opinion that their parents do not know them and the percentage should not be this high.

Do you have your group of friends that is ‘your squad’? 40% of people replied that they do not have enough friends and The Current wishes that they find true and good friends in their life ahead.

This one was quite tough but we are glad most of our followers love what they do.

  • COVID-19: Does double-masking help?

    COVID-19: Does double-masking help?

Wearing a mask has now become an important part of our lives to avoid the transmission of the COVID-19. The appropriate use, storage and cleaning or disposal of masks are essential to make them as effective as possible.

There are often times when you spot people wearing two face masks at the same time, but the question is, does it help?

In theory, a virus should have a tougher time getting through two layers than just one layer. In a commentary in the journal Med, Monica Gandhi, MD, MPH, a Professor of Medicine recommended wearing at least a “high-quality surgical mask or a fabric mask of at least two layers with high thread count.” But they added that wearing a cloth mask tightly on top of a surgical mask could provide even more protection.

Anthony Fauci, MD, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) also favours double-masking.

“If you have a physical covering with one layer, you put another layer on, it just makes common sense that it likely would be more effective,” says Fauci.

    CDA bans shooting stray dogs

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to impose a complete ban on shooting stray dogs in the city.

According to a report in Dawn News, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hamza Shafqaat, CDA officers, representatives of non-profit animal rights organisations, and citizens of Islamabad were among those present at the meeting when the decision was taken.

Speaking to the publication, DC Islamabad Hamza Shafqat said: “Shooting has been stopped forever. It has been decided that municipal by-laws will be amended to remove the clause stating elimination of dogs.”

CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed added that the governing body is exploring other options for the elimination of dogs instead of shooting them. Members of the meeting will reportedly convene again in two weeks to discuss solutions.

At present, the civic agency has a special dog shooting wing which is used for the elimination of stray dogs. However, civil society and non-profit organisations have often protested against the inhumane act.

Meanwhile, in June last year, to control the increase in the population of stray dogs in Peshawar, the Peshawar Livestock Department decided to neuter the animals instead of culling them and is offering a cash reward of Rs 200 to anyone who brings in a stray dog to the department.
