    Delhi man hires juvenile to murder him so family can claim insurance money

    A man in Delhi,India hired a juvenile to kill him so that his family could get his insurance money.

    Gaurav Bansal, 37, was a grocery shop owner. He was found hanging from a tree near Kheri Baba Pul in Ranhola area of outer Delhi on June 10.

    both of his hands were found knotted so olice registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and an investigation was started, said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer, A. Koan.

    Initial probe revealed that Bansal’s family members had filed a missing complaint. “On the basis of intelligence, a suspect identified as Suraj was apprehended. During sustained interrogation, Suraj revealed that he along with two others – Manoj and Sumit – were roped in to commit killing by a juvenile, who was in contact with the deceased,” the officer said.

    Following the revelations, Manoj, Sumit and the juvenile were arrested.

    The juvenile then revealed that Bansal contacted him on social media and said that he faced some financial problems due to which he wished to die. “He told the juvenile that he would pay him for his murder as because of this, his family would get his insurance payout,” the DCP added.

    Koan also said that two agreed for a sum of around Rs60,000 to kill him. “In order to execute the killing, the juvenile roped in his friend Manoj who later involved Suraj and Sumit for this alleged contract killing.”

    “The accused persons killed the victim by hanging him from a tree. During the questioning, they revealed that they had received money for this act from the victim. Bansal had told them if they killed him, his family will get the insurance money,” the DCP said.

    Further investigation of the case  is underway.

    Bodybuilders in Peshawar protested against government and demanded the reopening of gyms. Holding placards in their hands, they raised slogans against the government.

    While talking to a reporter, the president of KPK bodybuilder association said that we want the government to allow us to open gyms because this will help people build and strengthen their immune system. They also demanded the authorities give a relief package as “our gyms and clubs are closed since the lockdown was announced three months ago and our rents are due”.

    UK-based entertainment and lifestyle magazine, Asian Style Magazine, has made a list for South Asia’s 5 Best Dressed Men and the list includes two Pakistanis.

    The magazine has listed Pakistani businessman and Pakistan Tehkeek-e-Insaaf’s (PTI) leader Sayed Zulfiqar Bukhari, popularly known as Zulfi Bukhari as one of South Asia’s best-dressed men. Bukhari also serves as the Special Assistant to the PM for Overseas Pakistanis.

       “The Minister of Overseas and Tourism manages to pull off both western and eastern wear,” read the magazine.

    Responding to the honour, Bukhari said that he was “humbled”.

    With Punjab becoming the first province to record 1,000 coronavirus fatalities amid a rapid surge in the number of COVID-19 infections, Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has announced a 15-day selective quarantine in Lahore, which will come into effect from Monday-Tuesday midnight.

    Addressing a press conference, Dr Rashid said that selected neighbourhoods, including Lahore Cantonment, Shahdara, Mozang, Walled City, Harbanspura, Nishtar Town, Allama Iqbal Town will be locked down completely from midnight. Some areas in Gulberg will also be closed completely.

    According to the health minister, more than 300 cases had been recorded in each of these areas which was why the decision to enforce a lockdown was taken. However, Dr Rashid added, pharmacies, tandoors and dairy shops will remain open and so will any factories that are making protective equipment.

    “These areas will be locked down for at least two weeks and then we will observe the results.”

    She also once again urged people to follow the government’s announced standard operating procedures (SOPs) to stop the spread of the virus, adding that the virus could be stemmed by 50 per cent just by wearing a face mask.

    Lamenting the “wrong” criticism against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government for alleged loose handling of the pandemic, she said, “If [you say that] our government has failed, so has every other government in the world.”

    “The media is comparing us to New Zealand and Taiwan. The population of New Zealand is half [about 5 million] of that of Lahore’s. Controlling the virus there is much easier than controlling it in a thickly populated country like ours,” she said.

    “People don’t understand that this is a viral infection. Even in China, where they followed strict measures with commendable discipline, there is a resurgence of cases,” the health minister said.

    ‘NO SWEEPING LOCKDOWN’:

    On Saturday, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had ruled out a sweeping lockdown once again on a visit to Lahore during which he held meetings with Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar and other officials to evaluate the virus situation in the province.

    The premier’s visit to Lahore had come a day after the Punjab government sent recommendations to the federal government to tighten lockdown measures in the province, in particular Lahore, in a bid to curb the growing number of COVID-19 cases.

    But after holding meetings with the provincial government’s top brass, PM Imran had said a strategy of “smart lockdowns” will be implemented instead whereby strict adherence to SOPs will be ensured to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

    “After analysing with my Punjab team today, [we’ve decided that] we will not impose a lockdown but will impose selective lockdowns — trace and seal hotspots,” the premier had said, adding that the country’s administration and police were not in a position to take “such a huge burden of a complete lockdown”.

    Facebook helped in capturing two robbers, who entered a house in Lahore after a girl posted a status on Facebook that two robbers have entered her house.

    As per reports, two robbers entered a house in Faisal Town, Lahore. A woman named Saba, who was in the upper portion of the house, posted a status on Facebook that two dacoits have entered her house after observing resistance from the family members.

    Reading the post, friends and the other family members of Saba, instantly called police helpline 15, who reached the house in no time and arrested the robbers after negotiations of half an hour.

     Saba said after the robbers broke into the house, she immediately shared a status on Facebook after locking her room in the upper portion of the building.

    Hailing from KP’s Bannu district and stationed in Mardan Gul Bano is serving the people the best way she can. Gul Bano is the first female Assistant Commissioner in the 50-year history of Mardan Tehsil.

    Gul Bano was called ‘Fakhar-e-Bannu (Pride of Bannu)’ soon after she passed her Competitive Superior Services (CSS) exams. In an interview with Independent Urdu, Bano said, “After clearing my CSS exams, I was worried about what the villagers would think. But now they are proud of me and after seeing my photos on social media, they call me ‘Fakhr-e-Bannu’.”

    Gul Bano’s success has paved a way for other girls in her area. Gul Bano completed her early education from City Model School, Peshawar. Then she did her intermediate from Jinnah College for Women. She then went to Peshawar University from where she obtained an MBA degree.

    Speaking to the media outlet, Gul Bano said that she developed an interest in Civil Services after her brother passed the exam.

    Her husband Dr Zahidullah was also appointed as a district police officer (DPO) in Mardan, the same district where Gul Bano is serving as assistant commissioner for the past eight months.

    Ertuğrul Ghazi statue taken down in Turkey for looking like Engin Altan Düzyatan

    A monument of Ertuğrul Ghazi was recently taken down in Turkey for bearing resemblance to actor Engin Altan Düzyatan, who played the character of Ertuğrul in the hit series, instead of the Muslim hero himself.

    People living in the area and social media users noticed the resemblance, following which an investigation has been launched to figure out what happened.

    “We were disturbed by the fact that the bust of Ertuğrul Gazi resembles Engin Altan Düzyatan, the leading actor in the Resurrection Ertuğrul series and the same day the bust in question was removed,” said the municipality in a written statement.

    “The necessary investigation has been initiated about those responsible for negligence. We thank all the public for the sensitivity they have shown,” the statement added.

    Meanwhile, The Current did some research and found a painting of what the real Ertugrul might have looked like.

    Ertuğrul Ghazi led a small band of warriors under the leadership of Anatolian Seljuk sultan in the mid-13th century. With his death in 1280, the leadership of his small tribe passed onto his son Osman, who is known to have established the Ottoman state in 1299.

    Ertuğrul Gazi’s life has been very popular in Turkey. and it has not only taken Turkey but many countries, especially Pakistan recently, by storm.

    According to the state-run Pakistan Television (PTV), 133 million people have so far watched the historical series based on his life from April 25- May 14. Also, its episodes are trending on YouTube and Netflix Pakistan every day.

    TikTokers make COVID-19 awareness videos

    Following an ease in lockdown, cases of coronavirus have reached an all-time high in Pakistan. Despite the government asking the public to follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs), which include wearing a mask and glove, the public continues to ignore their appeals.

    To create awareness Punjab Governor, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, invited TikTokers to discuss the widespread virus and how they can help by making awareness videos. Among the TikTok stars who attended the meeting were Kanwal Aftab, Zulqurnain Sikandar, Sehar Hayyat, Warda Javaid, Daniya Sohail, and Haider Ali.

    Millions of years old sabre-toothed fish discovered in Pakistan named after a witch

    An ancient fossil of the sabre-toothed anchovy fish unearthed in Pakistan has been named after a  witch because of its long, pointy teeth.

    An almost 50-million-year-old fossil of another type of fish of the same species was found in Belgium.

    A complete fossil or fossil of Belgium and another partial fossil has been found in the Salt Range of the Salt Mountains of the Punjab Province of Pakistan. According to experts, the teeth of this fish, like the big and pointed teeth (Saber Tooth) Tiger, were large and unusual which made it a dangerous predator and it used to hunt small fish. The strange thing is that today this kind of creature has almost no teeth and it lives by eating microscopic objects floating on the sea.

    Experts led by Alessio Capobianco, a PhD student at the University of Michigan’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, said the fossil was 45 million years old, according to Capobianco’s research paper in the Royal Society’s research journal.

    The paper indicated that the fossil was discovered in “Rakhi Nala on the east side of the Sulaiman Range in the Dera Ghazi Khan” in Punjab.

    “One meter in length, it lived in the shallow seas of Pakistan 45 million years ago,” said Capobianco.

    According to an analysis, the ancient anchovy had a row of fine teeth in its lower jaw and a single, long, and pointed one in the upper jaw.

    In present-day, however, the same species is tiny, has almost no teeth, and consumes microscopic objects floating in the sea. It forms the second-largest population among fishes of Pakistan.

    According to WWF Pakistan Technical Adviser (Marine Fisheries) Moazzam Khan, it’s an integral part of pizza around the world and is also used in various other types of fish-based meals.

    “It eats insects by sifting through the water,” Khan said.

    Students in Islamabad gathered outside the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to protest against online classes conducted by the universities. Later, one student from the Capital University of Science and Technology, Usman Mehmood, got expelled for raising his voice on social media platforms.

    Mehmood voiced the concerns of many university students. The Capital University of Science and Technology student had been sharing the demands of students on social media.

    Usman received the letter from his university, deeming him ‘in violation of university discipline.’  

    Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, who chairs the Senate Committee on Human Rights, responded to Usman’s tweet saying he was within his constitutional rights while protesting peacefully and said that the VC of the university will be called to the committee to explain why a student was expelled for exercising his rights.

    In an earlier post, Mustafa Nawaz had addressed the issue of students getting expelled for raising their voices.
