  • Here are some of Senator Faisal Vawda’s predictions that came true

Here are some of Senator Faisal Vawda’s predictions that came true

Many Pakistani politicians have often been called spokespersons for the country’s establishment. In the corridors of power, there is always one voice that echoes the whispers of the unseen.

Earlier, the founder of Awami Muslim League (AML), Sheikh Rashid, was deemed the unofficial spokesperson of the country’s powerful establishment. However, Vawda, following his termination from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had been given the title of the “political insider.”

Currently, Vawda is known for his claims, bold remarks, and headline-grabbing predictions that often prove accurate. Let’s explore some of his notable predictions that prove true or might be true in the future.

    Prediction about Bushra Bibi’s release

During a talk show on ARY News on October 23, Vawda said that the wife of former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, will be released from jail in the upcoming days.

“She will be completely free, and no new cases will be made against her once her bail is granted. Regular meetings with Imran Khan will resume,” claimed the senator.

    True

On October 24, founder PTI Imran Khan’s spouse was released after being incarcerated for nine months in the Adiala Jail Rawalpindi.

Prediction about ex-ISI Chief Faiz Hamid’s military trial

Prediction about ex-ISI Chief Gen (r) Faiz Hamid

Senator Faisal Vawda said on October 21, 2024, while appearing on Samaa’s Nadeem Malik show, that former Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) chief General (r) Faiz Hamid will face court martial and get the punishment he deserves, come what may.

“He [Faiz] will not only be court-martialed but will also be sentenced,” Vawda said. “Others will also be punished,” Vawda added.

    True

On December 10, 2024, ex-spymaster General (r) Faiz Hamid was indicted on multiple allegations, including engaging in political activities, Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

According to the military media wing, Hamid was charged with engaging in political activities, violations of the Official Secret Act detrimental to the safety and interest of the state, misuse of authority and government resources and causing wrongful loss to a person(s).

Currently, the former spymaster is facing Field General Court Martial (FGCM) proceedings, and the verdict is expected to come in January 2025.

At the time this story was edited, former spymaster Faiz Hamid was facing the FGCM proceedings. The military court decision is pending over Hamid’s alleged involvement in political activities, the violation of the Official Secret Act and others.

Senator Faisal Vawda’s other predictions that might be true in the future.

Prediction about the gun attack on Imran Khan at Wazirabad

On 12 December 2024, Senator Faisal Vawda, while appearing on Hum News ‘FAISLA AAP KA with Asma Shirazi,’ Vawda claimed that close aides of former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan were involved in the attack that left him shot in the leg during a rally at Wazirabad in 2022.

“When Imran Khan finds out that his trusted people were involved in the attack on him, it will shake the ground beneath his feet,” he said.

On November 3, 2022, Imran Khan, along with other party leaders, was injured, and one party worker was killed when a gunman opened fire on the party founder’s container as the convoy reached Wazirabad’s Allah Wala Chowk.

Prediction about Journalist Arshad Sharif’s Murder case

Faisal Vawda often gave the perception that, allegedly, PTI Punjab political leadership has a direct link with the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya.

On 12 December in an ARY News programme, he emphasised that the verdict in the Arshad Sharif murder case would be the last nail in the coffin [for the PTI].

Prediction about the removal of one of the four province Governor

On 13 December 2024, Senator Faisal Vawda, while appearing on the ARY News show Aiteraz Hai, predicted that one of the four provincial Governors may lose their seat over allegations of moral corruption in the coming days.

On being asked to reveal the name of the Governor, Vawda hinted that he was involved in illegally acquiring money, creating confusion and damaging the country’s reputation. “The Governor might be changed either in a week, or it could take up to two months, but the ball is rolling now,” he added.

Currently, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan serves as the Governor of Punjab, while Faisal Karim Kundi holds the Governor’s position in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Kamran Tessori is the Governor of Sindh, and Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail represents the federal government as the Governor of Balochistan.

However, except for the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, no other Governor reacted to the Vawda claim.

  • Stay home if Adiala jail doesn’t suit you, but let us complete our five years: Rana Sanaullah

Stay home if Adiala jail doesn’t suit you, but let us complete our five years: Rana Sanaullah

Advisor to Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Friday spoke about government demands that might be included in negotiations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Appearing on 365 News political talk show Head On, Rana Sanaullah stated that the incumbent government was of the view that if Imran Khan didn’t want to be imprisoned in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, then he could come home but let the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) led government will complete the five-year term.

Ex-PM Imran Khan stated on Friday that he was offered home arrest.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the party founder remarked, “The proposal I received for a deal was: Negotiate with us, and we will give your party ‘political space’, but you will be placed under house arrest and moved to Bani Gala.”

“My response was that all other political prisoners must first be released. I would rather stay in jail than accept any deal. I will neither go into house arrest nor to any prison in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he added.

However, contrary to Imran Khan’s claim, PML-N top brass Rana Sanaullah denied that the government had offered house arrest to Imran Khan, noting, “Being the former premier, courts might grant Imran Khan house arrest.”

On being asked about whether the government will agree to hold elections in the next two to three years as a demand of negotiations with the PTI, the Advisor to PM on Political Affairs clarified, “This time, I’ll say it is a non-negotiable demand.”

When questioned whether the government was concerned about the United States (US) President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell’s consistent posts in favour of Imran Khan, the former Punjab Law minister categorically said, “We [government] should not worry even if the Donald J Trump himself issues such statements.”

Declaring Richard Grenell’s remarks about Imran Khan a stunt, Sanaullah maintained, “Richard Grenell’s statements don’t hold any importance for the government.”

Following the crackdown of Pakistan security forces on PTI demonstrators on November 26 in Islamabad, former US ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell initially posted on his account on X in favour of Imran Khan, writing, “Free Imran Khan!”. However, he did not receive much attention at that time.

Grenell was discussed in Pakistan politics on December 15, when Trump appointed him as his Special Envoy for Global Missions in his administration. His social media posts then were amplified by PTI supporters.

  • Lahore High Court rules non-Muslims can’t inherit from Muslim relatives

Lahore High Court rules non-Muslims can’t inherit from Muslim relatives

Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal of Lahore High Court (LHC) has ruled that a non-Muslim can’t inherit a Muslim relative’s property, neither as a successor nor a predecessor.

When hearing a case pertaining to the devolution of land among inheritors, the judge issued the verdict upholding the decisions of two lower courts. The case centres around the devolution of land spanning over 83 kanals in Gojra tehsil of district Toba Tek Singh.

As per the details of the case, after the Muslim owner passed away, the property was devolved to his three sons and two daughters.

However, a Muslim grandson of the deceased challenged the mutation in favour of one of his uncles while alleging that the uncle was an Ahmadi by faith and that he could not inherit property from his deceased Muslim father.

During the legal process of cross-examination, one of the heirs of the non-Muslim man also testified that his father was an Ahmadi.

The lower courts decreed in favour of the grandson, who had asked for the cancellation of the legal mutations.

However, the Lahore High Court observed that it was established that the man was an Ahmadi by faith, but he did not disclose this position while incorporating the inheritance mutation of his Muslim father.

“It is settled law that admitted facts need not be proved,” the judge maintained.

Justice Iqbal emphasised that according to Sharia, property left by a deceased Muslim landowner cannot be inherited by a non-Muslim heir. To explain further, the honourable judge quoted the sayings of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) from Vol. 4 of Sahih Muslim, asserting, “A Muslim does not inherit from a disbeliever, and a disbeliever does not inherit from a Muslim.”

The High Court asserted that in pre-partition times, British law protected the personal laws of the different communities living in India.

Similarly, Muslim Personal Laws were also made applicable to Muslims through the Muslim Shariat Application Act of 1937.

Resultantly, the principles of the Holy Quran and Sunnah are applicable to the inheritance of the estate of a deceased Muslim.

Quoting these facts, Judge Iqbal said that a non-Muslim was not entitled to inherit any share from the estate of his Muslim relative as either a successor or a predecessor.

Additionally, the provisions of Article 260(3), defining the terms for Muslim and non-Muslim for legal purposes, are applicable here as well.

The top court said that the trial court rightly ruled the suit, which was lawfully upheld by the appellate court.

While dismissing the petition, the Judge concluded in the verdict, “The concurrent findings of fact are against the petitioners which do not call for any interference by this court in the exercise of its revisional jurisdiction in the absence of any illegality or any error of jurisdiction.”

‘925 terrorists killed in 59,775 operations’: Army presents 2024 counter-terror report card

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Friday revealed the military’s counter-terror report card for 2024, announcing that over 900 terrorists were killed in nearly 60,000 operations this year.

In his fifth media briefing of the year, the ISPR chief revealed that over 59,779 IBOs [intelligence-based operations] were carried out against terrorists during 2024. During these operations, 925 terrorists, including Khawarij, were killed and multiple others were apprehended.

“Pakistan has fought a long war against terrorism and is still fighting. It has rendered highly valued sacrifices in this fight,” Lt Gen Chaudhry said.

During various operations, he added, a significant quantity of weapons was recovered from terrorist hideouts, demonstrating the scale of the threat and the success of counter-terrorism efforts.

The ISPR chief also highlighted the tremendous cost being borne by the armed forces.

“Everyone must realise that our soldiers are paying the price for these decisions with their blood. Sixteen FC soldiers were martyred just six days ago. Does their blood hold no value?” he questioned while referring to the tragic incident that took place at a South Waziristan checkpost last Friday.

On Tehreek-i-Taliban (TTP) hideouts in Afghanistan, Lt Gen Chaudhry said terror roots were often traced back to the neighbouring country and Pakistan remained resolute to dismantle these terror networks without compromise.

“Networks operating from Afghan soil continue to target Pakistan, and we are resolute in eliminating them,” he said.

Responding to a journalist’s question about May 9 incidents, he stressed that it was not a case of the Pakistan Army but in fact that of “the people of Pakistan”.

Commenting on civilians’ trial in military courts and recent convictions, he said that the courts had received validation from the International Court of Justice (ICJ). “Military courts were established decades ago and in accordance with the Constitution and law.”

Lt Gen Chaudhry made it clear that anyone who was involved in incidents like May 9 in the future would face the same consequences. “The accused can appeal against their convictions to the Army Chief, in high courts or the Supreme Court,” he added.

Addressing widespread criticism against military trials, the ISPR chief said that those who were now criticising military courts had previously supported them. “They are the ones who previously supported military courts,” he said.

“The process will continue till the planners and executers of May 9 are brought to justice,” he concluded.

  • Women participation in tech, digital spaces ‘alarmingly low’: PTA

Women participation in tech, digital spaces ‘alarmingly low’: PTA

Women’s participation in technology and digital spaces, especially pertaining to economy, remains “alarmingly low” a report by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has revealed.

The report, originally compiled by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and titled “Bridging the Digital Gender Divide”, revealed that approximately 327 million fewer women have access to smartphones and mobile internet globally, as compared to men.

In Pakistan, as access to technology and internet access increases with time, the issue of digital gender divide remains at a concerning level, the report revealed and added that the country ranked among the lowest in terms of gender parity and digital inclusion.

PTA’s report quoted three separate reports, including the Global Gender Gap Report 2024, the Mobile Connectivity Index 2023, and the Inclusive Internet Index. It highlighted “significant gaps in female education, mobile ownership and internet usage, underscoring the need to bridge the digital divide and promote equitable access to technology”.

The report asserted that key challenges faced by women were “limited digital literacy, restricted access to financial services (such as bank accounts), absence of computerized national identity cards (CNIC) for nearly 25 percent of adult women, high costs of devices and broadband, scarcity of local content, safety concerns, and patriarchal controls”.

In Pakistan, out of a total of 60.4 million users of Facebook, 77 percent are men while 24 percent are women. YouTube has 71.7 million users, of which only 28 percent are women. Meanwhile, TikTok has 54.4 million users, which include only 22 percent women.

Last but not the least, Instagram has 17.3 million users, of which 36 percent are women.

However, the PTA said, it has developed the Digital Gender Inclusion Strategy under the patronage of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications. The strategy is built with the help of Unesco Pakistan and would address “the barriers hindering women’s access to mobile”, setting “forth an accelerated action plan with an implementation roadmap, timelines, and measurable outcomes”.

Notably, the PTA also recently announced the laying down of a major undersea cable that is expected to enhance connection speeds in the country and address longstanding concerns of slow connection speeds and internet outages.

  • ‘Imran’s suffering hurts more than my son’s sentence,’ says Hassaan Niazi’s mother

‘Imran’s suffering hurts more than my son’s sentence,’ says Hassaan Niazi’s mother

A day after a military court sentenced her son to 10 years in prison, Noreen Khan Niazi has said that her brother and former prime minister Imran Khan’s suffering hurts her more than her son’s ordeal.

Noreen’s son and nephew of the incarcerated former premier, Hassaan Khan Niazi, was on Thursday awarded 10 years in jail for his involvement in the May 9 riots. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a military court found Hassaan guilty of ransacking Lahore Corps Commander’s residence (Jinnah House).

“My son’s sentence hurts, but Imran Khan’s suffering hurts me even more,” Noreen said in an interview with ABN News following her son’s sentencing. Declaring it “injustice”, she alleged that the sentence “stemmed from personal hatred”.

“If the maximum sentence limit had been more than ten years, then they surely would have awarded that to Hassaan,” Noreen said. She, however, expressed hope that her son among others would be released after the convictions were challenged in the high court.

To a question about the dozens of pending cases against her brother, Noreen accused the judiciary of being compromised.

“The reason behind the frivolous cases on Imran Khan is to force him to leave the country,” she said, alleging that the government had kept her brother in Adiala Jail’s death-row cells.

To a question about the ongoing negotiations between the government and PTI, she said she only had faith in Allah.

Separately, Hassaan’s father Hafizullah Niazi appeared on Dunya News where he said the state had exploited a blatant lie to sentence his son.

He claimed that his son had told him all about how Jinnah House was already on fire when he reached there on May 9, 2023. “There was chaos everywhere and I just gave a speech there,” Niazi quoted his son as saying.

It is pertinent to note that Hassaan was not the only person who was on Thursday sentenced for his involvement in May 9 riots. According to the military’s media wing, military courts awarded punishments to at least 59 other, including former PTI lawmaker from Lahore, Mian Abad Farooq.

Earlier, military courts had on Saturday awarded sentences to at least 25 others for attacking state installations on May 9, 2023. Scores of PTI supporters and leaders remain undertrial in military as well as anti-terror courts for their involvement in violent protests that broke out following the former premier’s arrest last year.

AI reveals corruption allegations against Richard Grenell

In an interesting development, a social media user has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to highlight various allegations of corruption against United States (US) President-elect Donald Trump’s aide Richard Grenell, after asking X’s AI chatbot Grok-2 about it.

Grenell has garnered a massive following in Pakistan ever since he called for the release of former prime minister (PM) Imran Khan from prison.

Amid social media spats between government and Imran Khan supporters, a netizen with the handle @RShahzaddk on Thursday posted screenshots of alleged details of corruption provided by the AI assistant.

“State-of-the-art AI assistant Grok-2 highlights @RichardGrenell’s undisclosed work for Moldovan oligarch Plahotniuc and Hungarian government-funded entities — raising serious questions about transparency and FARA compliance. Why the silence on these conflicts of interest, Ambassador?” he wrote.

“Richard Grenell, a former US diplomat and political figure, has been subject to various allegations regarding corruption, primarily related to his professional activities before and during his time in public office [sic],” he quoted the AI chatbot as saying.

“Advocacy work for a Moldovan Politician: Grenell was accused of not disclosing payments for advocacy work on behalf of Vladimir Plahotniuc, a Moldovan politician who the we [sic] later accused of corruption. Grenell wrote op-eds defending Plahotniuc without disclosing any financial ties, which could potentially violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA),” Grok added.

It further said that there have been concerns about Grenell’s foreign consultancy work, particularly with clients in countries like Moldova where he was alleged to have worked without registering under FARA “This has raised questions about the transparency of his dealings and the potential for conflicts of interest, especially given his later roles in the US intelligence and diplomacy.”

The post comes as Pakistanis continue to argue over Grenell’s newfound interest in Pakistani politics and his support for incarcerated former premier Khan. Trump’s aide had on December 16 posted a screenshot of a Geo News Urdu article with a headline translated in English as “Homosexual Richard Grenell appointed as Trump’s envoy” with the caption, “I’ll say it again, @geonews_urdu: Free Imran Khan.”

Expectedly, the post went viral, with most PTI supporters and leaders appreciating the US official for raising his voice for the Khan.

Grenell had also previously voiced his support for the incarcerated premier on his official X account. This had prompted PTI supports to celebrate and congratulate Grenell on his nomination as the presidential envoy for special missions by Trump.

Since then, Grenell has been consistently engaging with PTI supporters’ accounts while echoing their calls for Khan’s release.

  • Lahore gets Pakistan’s first smog tower

Lahore gets Pakistan’s first smog tower

Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has installed Pakistan’s first-ever ‘smog tower’ in Lahore in an attempt to reduce air pollution and smog in the provincial capital.

Officials have told local media that the performance of the smog tower installed in Mehmood Booti will be monitored to allow an informed decision about installing more towers in the future.

The tower, currently 20 feet high, can be extended to 50 feet.

It will consume a low amount of electricity and has the capacity to be run on solar and battery power.

The tower has been manufactured in Pakistan after a detailed study of smog towers manufactured by renowned companies abroad.

However, the cost of the locally developed tower is three times lower than that of the internationally manufactured tower.

Experiments with the tower had been conducted before the final installation. An official of the manufacturing company told the media that before installing the smog tower in Lahore, the company conducted laboratory tests and more tests at various polluted sites in Islamabad and Gujranwala.

Mahmood Booti area of Lahore has been selected because it has the highest air pollution.

Environment Protection Agency has claimed that after the installation of the tower, the AQI in the neighbourhood has come down from 1600 to 250 in a few days.
It is expected that if 200 towers are installed in different parks, shopping centres and commercial areas throughout Lahore, the city can be free from smog.

Director General of the Environment Protection Department Punjab Imran Hamid Shaikh, addressing a presser, said that the smog tower will be able to filter up to 50,000 cubic feet of air per hour over an area of one kilometre. “The field test of the tower will be conducted for 15 days, during which its ability to clear up pollutants caused by chimneys, industries and dumping sites will be ascertained.”

He stated that the environment department will monitor chemical pollutants in the air via air quality monitors, and if the experiment proves successful, more towers will be installed.

Notably, the project is not incurred by the Punjab government and the experiment is being conducted with the support of private sector engineers. Meanwhile, the environment protection departments will stand by private entities assisting with the cause.

  • Imran Khan admits govt saved country from bankruptcy

Imran Khan admits govt saved country from bankruptcy

Founder Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan acknowledged on Thursday that the incumbent federal government led by Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has stabilised the country’s economy, which was on the verge of collapse in the past years.

“The government has successfully prevented the economy from going bankrupt,” he said while speaking to journalists at Adiala Jail Rawalpindi after a hearing of the ToshaKhana case.

On being asked whether he was conceding that the government had improved the economy, the former PM responded, “The economy has been stabilised, and it has been rescued from bankruptcy, but it has not seen growth yet.”

The former Premier’s statement comes as the country witnesses improvement in economic indicators, with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) touching an all-time high and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) slashing the interest rate to 13 per cent from a historic high of 23 per cent.

A brokerage report said on Tuesday that Pakistan’s annual consumer price inflation rate is expected to drop to 4.1 per cent in December, the lowest level in more than six years.

“We expect inflation in December to decline to 4.1 per cent YoY [year-on-year], down from last month’s 4.9 per cent. This marks the lowest inflation reading since April 2018, when it stood at 3.96 per cent,” said Arif Habib Limited in a report.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, clarified on Thursday that her brother will not accept house arrest.

Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Aleema Khan said that knowing that rumours had been spread that her brother would be shifted to Bani Gala or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Khan made it clear that he will not accept house arrest or be moved from jail.

“I am clarifying that all political prisoners be released, and if they want to keep me in jail, they can, but I will not agree to house arrest,” Aleema Khan quoted her brother as saying.

She also stated that her brother expressed concern over the reported airstrike by Pakistani jets near the Pak-Afghan border and said that the country’s economic development is linked to peace in Afghanistan.
“Such actions in Afghanistan will destroy peace in Pakistan as well as have a direct impact on the country’s economy,” she said while quoting Imran Khan.

When questioned about the first phase of the civil disobedience movement aimed to halt remittances, Aleema said that Khan made it crystal clear that the remittance campaign would only end once the government addresses Khan’s two demands: the release of PTI workers and the formation of a judicial commission comprising three senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, to probe the event of May 9 and November 26.

  • Imran Khan’s nephew among 60 others convicted by military courts

Imran Khan’s nephew among 60 others convicted by military courts

Military courts have sentenced another 60 civilians, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s nephew Hassaan Khan Niazi, for their involvement in May 9 riots, the Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR) said Thursday.

As per the details, Niazi has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in the ransacking of Lahore Corps Commander’s residence (Jinnah House). Among other convicts was Mian Abad Farooq, a former PTI lawmaker from Lahore, who was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment.

“Sequel to the announcement of the May 9 punishments in light of the Supreme Court’s decision, the Field General Court Martial has promulgated the punishments to the following 60 culprits after examining all evidence, ensuring the provision of all legal rights to the convicts, completion of due process and the appropriate legal proceedings,” read a statement issued by the military’s media wing.

The latest sentences come just days after the ISPR announced that 25 civilians had been handed prison terms for their involvement in violent protests that broke out over Khan’s arrest in May last year. The demonstrations saw attacks on state establishments, including military installations across the country.

Thursday’s statement once again stressed that all individuals sentenced by military courts had the right to appeal the sentence as outlined by the law of the land. “The nation, government and armed forces remain resolute in their commitment to ensuring justice and upholding the inviolable authority of the state,” the ISPR concluded.

After months of deliberations over military court’s eligibility to try and sentence civilians, as many as 25 persons were last week convicted and sentenced for their involvement in May 9 attacks on state installations.

“Field General Court Martial have in [the] first phase promulgated the punishments to 25 accused,” read a statement issued by ISPR on Dec 21.

While the PTI demanded a judicial commission to probe last year’s events, the statement added that the promulgation of the sentences of remaining accused was also being done and will be announced shortly as and when the due process was completed.

It added that the nation on May 9 witnessed tragic incidents of politically provoked violence and arson at multiple places, marking a dark chapter in the history of Pakistan.

Building on a sustained narrative of hate and lies, the ISPR said, politically orchestrated attacks were carried out on the installations of the armed forces including the desecration of martyrs’ monuments.

“Many accused are also being tried in various Anti-Terrorism Courts and their cases are being pursued as per the law, however, justice would truly be fully served once the mastermind and planners of 9th May Tragedy are punished as per the Constitution and laws of the land,” the statement read.
