Taylor Fritz credits girlfriend for success as he reaches Wimbledon semifinal

Taylor Fritz has credited his girlfriend, influencer Morgan Riddle, for playing a key role in his journey to new heights in tennis, as he reached his first-ever Wimbledon semifinal on Tuesday.

Fritz beat Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4) to set up a tough semifinal clash with two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. After the match, Fritz opened up about the motivational note he wrote to himself after losing at Wimbledon four years ago.

“That note was never supposed to be public,” Fritz said with a smile. The note, which Riddle shared on social media, read: “Nobody in the whole world is underachieving harder than you.” It was a harsh reminder for him to push himself harder.

Fritz said he does not hold it against Riddle for sharing it. In fact, he praised her for helping him stay focused and rise to No. 5 in the world.

“There’s been a pretty constant results and ranking rise since we’ve been together,” Fritz said. “I think I would have to say she’s been a big help to me just kind of keeping me focused, having someone who cares and just pushes you to just do better and do the right things, be healthier.

“Almost like kind of just mother me in a way,” he added, laughing, “with like, the diet and going to sleep on time.”

He quickly admitted with a grin, “Yeah, that maybe wasn’t the best choice of words.”

This is the first time Fritz has reached the last four at Wimbledon. He has already won two grass-court titles this season, in Stuttgart and Eastbourne.

“Grass is very much so an equalizer. It can be an equalizer. So trust in how I’m playing,” he said. “I truly know the way that I played the first two sets today, there’s not much any opponent on the other side can do.”

Fritz will face defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals.

  • Messi-Ronaldo reunion on the cards as Saudi club makes bold move

Messi-Ronaldo reunion on the cards as Saudi club makes bold move

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Saudi Pro League could soon see his biggest rival join him, as Saudi club Al-Ahli has reportedly made a surprising offer to Lionel Messi.

Messi’s current contract with Inter Miami runs until the end of 2025, but uncertainty about his future has stirred buzz after Al-Ahli’s approach. The news has given supporters hope that they might witness the two legends face off on the same stage again.

Cristiano Ronaldo is already a star player for Saudi club Al-Nassr and recently extended his contract by another two years. On June 26, Al-Nassr confirmed that Ronaldo will remain with the club until 2026.

Earlier this year, there were rumours that Ronaldo might join another team for the FIFA Club World Cup, but he denied those reports, which had disappointed many fans. Now, the effort to bring Messi to Saudi Arabia has revived those dreams.

Although Al-Ahli has confirmed making the offer, details about the possible salary or other benefits have not been revealed yet. However, it is expected that the Saudi club will put forward a highly attractive financial package to convince Messi.

Both Messi and Ronaldo are now looking towards the FIFA World Cup 2026, which could be the last major international tournament of their careers.

If Messi accepts the offer to join the Saudi Pro League, it will create a historic moment for football, giving fans around the world another chance to enjoy the legendary Messi versus Ronaldo rivalry.

  • Babar, Rizwan, Shaheen join Karachi training camp

Babar, Rizwan, Shaheen join Karachi training camp

The Pakistan Cricket Board has included Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi in the national white-ball training camp in Karachi, indicating they are still in plans for future matches.

The three senior players are not part of the 15-member squad travelling for the upcoming T20I tour but will train alongside the team. The PCB announced on Tuesday that they have been added as extra members of the training group, which will prepare at the National Bank Stadium from July 9 to 15. All players are expected to report today.

This move suggests that Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen could return for Pakistan’s next series, possibly against the West Indies if the ODIs go ahead. With no international cricket for nearly a month, and the players out of action for even longer, the camp will help them stay match-ready for a quick comeback.

Naseem Shah and Wasim Jr have also been included in the camp to continue their fitness work, despite not making the touring squad for Bangladesh.

The PCB is trying to build a fresh T20I side while keeping senior players involved to guide younger talent. Although rotation has given new faces a chance, the presence of Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen in the camp shows the experienced core is still very much part of Pakistan’s future plans.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Pakistan men’s cricket team selection committee announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh.

The 15-member squad for the Bangladesh series includes: Salman Ali Agha (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Daniyal, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Haris (wk), Mohammad Nawaz, Sahibzada Farhan (wk), Saim Ayub, Salman Mirza, and Sufyan Moqim.

Qatari princess Sheikha Asma becomes Pakistan’s brand ambassador for mountains, tourism

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Qatari princess Sheikha Asma Al Thani as Pakistan’s brand ambassador for mountains and the tourism.

Taking to the social media platform X, the prime minister wrote, “I am pleased to appoint Her Highness Sheikha Asma Al Thani as the Brand Ambassador for Pakistan’s Mountains and Tourism. My heartfelt felicitations to Her Highness on her recent feat of scaling Nanga Parbat. It is truly inspiring!”

He further said that Sheikha Asma’s achievement sends a strong message of courage and determination and also represents the deep and enduring friendship between Pakistan and Qatar.

Sheikha Asma recently summited Pakistan’s 8,126-metre-high peak, Nanga Parbat, becoming the first Qatari woman to reach its summit. Despite harsh weather conditions and treacherous routes, she proudly raised Qatar’s national flag on the notorious “Killer Mountain.”

This milestone marks her ninth successful ascent in her mission to climb all fourteen of the world’s highest peaks, further establishing her among elite global mountaineers.

Senior players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi are not part of the squad for the Bangladesh series, as the selectors continue to test new combinations and provide opportunities to emerging players.

According to the official statement, the squad for the white-ball series against the West Indies will be announced in due course.

  • Chris Woakes breaks silence on viral ‘King Babar’ comment

Chris Woakes breaks silence on viral ‘King Babar’ comment

England pacer Chris Woakes has finally broken his silence on the viral ‘King Babar’ comment he left on Wiaan Mulder’s Instagram, saying it was only a friendly joke and not meant to mock former Pakistan captain Babar Azam.

Speaking on a YouTube podcast alongside fellow cricketer Moeen Ali, Woakes opened up about the controversy.

“I played with Wiaan Mulder in the South African league, and during the Test series in Pakistan, there had been a bit of an exchange between him and Babar Azam,” Woakes recalled.

He said the incident led to a flood of comments from Pakistani fans on Mulder’s posts, with many sarcastically calling him ‘King Babar’ under his post on social media. Woakes, finding the banter funny, decided to join in.

“It was just light-hearted fun. We used to joke about it in the dressing room too. But when I commented ‘King Babar’ on one of Wiaan’s photos, fans completely misread it,” he said.

Woakes stressed that he never intended to insult Babar Azam in any way.

“I didn’t mean anything against Babar. The comment was meant in jest, but fans misinterpreted it as a dig at their captain. They even started targeting me in the comments, calling me ‘King Babar’ sarcastically,” he added.

“I completely understand the passion of the fans, but the whole thing was just a misunderstanding,” he concluded.

The incident originally took place in March 2025. Woakes poked fun at Pakistani cricket star when South African player Wiaan Mulder was tagged in a social media post about a four-wheeler associated with his team, the Lions.

Though Babar Azam wasn’t even part of the conversation, Woakes randomly dropped his name with two laughing emojis. His cheeky troll instantly grabbed the spotlight but ended up sparking unwanted controversy among Babar’s fans.

  • Shubman Gill’s mistake could cost BCCI whopping Rs825 crores

Shubman Gill’s mistake could cost BCCI whopping Rs825 crores

India’s cricket captain Shubman Gill may end up costing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nearly PKR 825 crore during the second Test at Edgbaston, as his actions put their massive sponsorship deal with Adidas at risk.

During India’s second innings, when the team was cruising at 427 for 6 with a lead of 607 runs, Gill declared the innings. However, fans noticed he was wearing a Nike t-shirt, despite Adidas being the official kit sponsor under a contract that runs until 2028.

Under the contract, players are required to wear Adidas gear during official matches, but Gill wearing a Nike shirt violates the agreement.

Did Shubman Gill put BCCI in trouble after sporting Nike vest during IND vs ENG 2nd Test? What's controversy all about? | Mint

According to Indian media reports, this breach could lead to financial penalties or even give Adidas grounds to terminate the deal. Such a move would cost the BCCI a staggering ₹250 crore (over PKR 825 crore).

Some believe it may have been an innocent mistake; Gill could have rushed out of the dressing room without noticing what he was wearing. Others note that Gill is also a Nike brand ambassador, which might explain why he had the t-shirt on. While Adidas is unlikely to withdraw from the deal immediately, the BCCI is expected to issue a warning or seek an explanation from the player.

Fans are already debating the matter on social media. Though the board is likely to handle it internally, the incident is a clear reminder that players must adhere to sponsorship agreements at all times. For now, all eyes are on how the BCCI and Adidas navigate this ₹250 crore headache.

    IND-ENG 2nd Test

India defeated England by 336 runs in the second Test at Edgbaston to level the series 1–1. Shubman Gill was the star of the match, scoring a brilliant 269 runs in the first innings and following it up with 161 in the second innings. His total of 430 runs in the match is one of the highest in Test cricket history.

India posted big totals of 587 and 427 for 6 declared, leaving England with no chance. The bowlers did their job well too, with Akash Deep 10 and Mohammed Siraj taking seven wickets to seal a dominant win.

Wiaan Mulder becomes first captain to score triple century in Test cricket

South Africa’s stand-in captain Wiaan Mulder has made history by becoming the first captain in Test cricket to score a triple century.

He achieved this incredible milestone against Zimbabwe on the second day of the second Test in Bulawayo.

Mulder was unstoppable after scoring 264 runs on the first day and became the first captain ever to score a triple century in Test cricket. He reached his 300 in just 297 balls, making it the second-fastest triple century ever in Tests. Only Virender Sehwag’s 278-ball triple ton was faster.

Mulder’s innings were full of attacking shots, including 41 fours and three sixes. This is now the most boundaries ever hit by a South African in a single Test innings. He also broke several national records, including the highest individual Test score by a South African and the highest score by a South African captain.

At the time of writing, South Africa had reached a massive 549 for 5, with Mulder still looking strong and aiming to push his score even higher. His outstanding performance has not only put South Africa in a commanding position but has also written his name into the record books as one of the game’s top Test batsmen.

  • Major changes to Pakistan’s domestic cricket calendar for 2025-26

Major changes to Pakistan’s domestic cricket calendar for 2025-26

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced big changes in its domestic cricket structure for the 2025-26 season.

One of the biggest changes is the return of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy to an eight-team format instead of 18, as the PCB aims to allow the best regional teams to compete at the highest level. This year’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy will be held from September 22 to November 7 in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, with 29 matches scheduled.

Before that, 12 regional teams will take part in the Hanif Mohammad Trophy, starting on August 15. This tournament will decide which two teams qualify for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. The PCB says this new step will reward players and teams based on performance rather than reputation.

The National T20 tournament will also adopt a new format. Ten regional teams will compete in a qualifying round in February 2026, with the top two joining eight pre-qualified teams for the Super 10 stage in Faisalabad in March.

Departmental cricket will continue to play an important role through tournaments like the President’s Trophy (first-class), President’s Cup (one-day), and Grade II and III events, helping players stay active and secure employment in the sport.

Alongside these main competitions, there will be tournaments for school, college, university, and club-level cricket. The PCB says this is one of the most detailed domestic schedules in recent years and is designed to prepare the next generation of Pakistan cricket stars.

Details for some competitions will be shared later. Here is the full schedule:

  • Pak to face India in PUBG Mobile tournament after five years

Pak to face India in PUBG Mobile tournament after five years

Pakistan and India will face each other in an official PUBG Mobile tournament for the first time after nearly six years, reigniting one of the region’s biggest rivalries.

The highly anticipated face-off will take place at the PUBG Mobile World Cup 2025 later this month as part of the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan qualified after finishing third at the PMSL Central & South Asia Spring 2025 in Almaty, beating top teams from across the region, claiming one of three slots available for Central and South Asia. The team will be represented by 4Thrives Esports.

Hopes for India rest on Aryan x TMG Gaming, who recently made headlines after winning the Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series 2025 Grand Finals held in New Delhi from July 4 to 6. By topping the BMPS, they earned India a direct ticket to the World Cup and will now face off against some of the world’s best.

The last notable time Pakistani and Indian PUBG Mobile teams competed was in 2020 in the PUBG Mobile World League 2020, where Team Free Style represented Pakistan.

Major changes were made in the competitive PUBG Mobile in South Asia after 2020. India’s version of the game was banned and relaunched as BGMI, and the country set its own separate events. Meanwhile, Pakistan relied on limited regional qualifiers with no clear path to compete internationally against India. Different regional leagues, political restrictions, and separate publisher strategies meant few or no opportunities for both countries to appear in the same official tournaments.

In 2020, the hype was driven by curiosity. Fans in Pakistan watched because it was new to see local players on the same map as Indian streamers and pro players they admired.

This year, however, the format of the gaming competition has changed, and the clash between the two neighbouring rivals will take place on one of the biggest Esports stages in the world. Both teams qualified through official leagues under strict global regulations. Now, they’ll compete for pride and for a share of a record-breaking $3,000,000 prize pool.

Viewership is expected to be huge, with tens of thousands of Pakistani fans expected to watch live, whereas India’s PUBG Mobile community is known to garner hundreds of thousands of live viewers.

The PUBG Mobile World Cup 2025 will be held in Riyadh from July 25 to August 3 as part of the larger Esports World Cup. A total of 24 of the world’s best PUBG Mobile teams will take part.

The event will begin with the Group Stage from July 25 to 27. Teams will be split into three groups, with the top eight advancing straight to the Grand Finals. The Survival Stage will take place from July 29 to 30, giving the bottom 16 teams one last chance to qualify. The top 16 teams will then battle it out in the Grand Finals, which will run from August 1 to 3.

Fans are excited to see their favourite players take the Pakistan-India rivalry beyond cricket and into the world of Esports.
