Pakistan will compete in Hockey Asia Cup in India, media reports claim

Pakistan is set to participate in the 12th edition of the Hockey Asia Cup in India after receiving diplomatic approval from Indian authorities, according to Indian media reports.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in Rajgir from August 27 to September 7, 2025.

Pakistan’s participation had been uncertain amid tense relations between the two countries, but India’s sports ministry has confirmed that there are no objections to Pakistan competing in this multi-nation event.

According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), a ministry spokesperson said, “We are not against any team competing in India in a multi-national competition. But bilateral is different.”

However, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has stated that the team’s participation in India depends on government approval. PHF Secretary General Rana Mujahid has previously said that Pakistan will only compete in the Asia Cup if the government grants permission.

While the clearance allows Pakistan to travel, it remains to be seen whether the Pakistan Hockey Federation will agree to send the team across the border or request a hybrid model for some matches, similar to recent cricket arrangements.

The Hockey Asia Cup is an important qualifying event for the 2026 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup, making Pakistan’s participation crucial as they aim to revive their proud hockey legacy.

  • PSL 10 shatters viewership records, Peshawar Zalmi most watched team

PSL 10 shatters viewership records, Peshawar Zalmi most watched team

The 10th edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) has smashed all previous viewership records, setting new milestones for broadcast ratings and online streaming.

A meeting was held in Lahore between the PSL management and stakeholders on Wednesday, where detailed briefings were given on the League’s latest achievements. The briefing revealed that PSL 10 generated over 500 million rupees in gate money alone.

Compared to the previous season, broadcast viewership for PSL 10 saw a massive jump. Average TV rating stood at an impressive 8.5 percent. Peshawar Zalmi emerged as the most-watched team, while Lahore Qalandars topped overall.

In an extraordinary leap, live streaming for PSL 10 surged by 647 percent compared to PSL 9. Last season recorded 455 million live streaming views, while PSL 10 attracted a staggering 3.4 billion views. The final match was the most-watched game of the season, and Lahore Qalandars recorded the highest team viewership at 1.4 billion.

The data showed that urban areas contributed 53 percent of the live streaming audience, while rural areas made up 47 percent. Male viewers accounted for 67 percent and females 33 percent.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said, “PSL stands as a symbol of hope and unity, delivering world-class cricket and unforgettable moments. We will make the League even stronger and more globally active.”

PSL CEO Salman Naseer added that PSL 10 was not just a tournament but a celebration, calling it a movement that continues to bring fans together.

Looking ahead to the eleventh edition, PCB is exploring a major shift in the league’s calendar. Unlike previous seasons in February–March or April–May, PSL 11 is now likely to be scheduled between December 2025 and January 2026, helping avoid clashes with the Indian Premier League and ICC events.

Preparations are underway for expansion with two additional franchises expected to join the PSL, taking the League from six teams to eight.

Pakistan stun Indonesia in historic AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifier win

Pakistan women’s football team pulled off a stunning victory in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, defeating hosts Indonesia 2-0 in a Group D match.

The win marks a historic moment for Pakistan as they overcame a team ranked significantly higher in FIFA rankings.

Nadia Khan gave Pakistan an early lead by scoring in the 8th minute, registering her fifth international career goal. The momentum continued when Suha Hirani converted a penalty in the 18th minute to double Pakistan’s advantage. Throughout the match, Pakistan’s goalkeeper, Ziyana Jeewraj, made several crucial saves to deny Indonesia any chance of a comeback.

Pakistan’s FIFA ranking stands at 157, while Indonesia holds the 95th position, making this result even more significant for the Green Shirts. The team will now face Kyrgyzstan in their final Group D match on July 5.

  • Probable dates for Pakistan-India Asia Cup 2025 matches revealed

Probable dates for Pakistan-India Asia Cup 2025 matches revealed

This year’s Asia Cup could see arch-rivals India and Pakistan face each other at least twice if things go according to plan.

According to Indian media reports, the Asia Cup is likely to begin around September 4 or 5, with the high-voltage group stage match between India and Pakistan expected to take place on September 7 in Dubai. If both teams qualify for the Super Four stage, they could meet again on September 14.

Indian media outlets have also reported that although India is the official host for the tournament, the matches will likely be played at a neutral venue, with the UAE emerging as the strongest option. The Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format this time, and the final is expected to be held on September 21.

The tournament will feature six teams: Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the UAE.

Pakistani sports journalist Faizan Lakhani shared his take on the changing narrative in Indian media. He wrote, “From reporting that India is pulling out of the Asia Cup, to declaring that the tournament will proceed without Pakistan, to reports that BCCI will request the ICC to separate India and Pakistan groups in future events, the Indian media has now started to report the possible date of the India-Pakistan Asia Cup clash!”

He added, “According to SportsTak (the same website that reported the Champions Trophy was being moved to South Africa), the India vs Pakistan in Asia Cup will happen on September 7th.”

However, nothing has been officially confirmed yet.

  • Pakistan’s top PUBG Mobile team 4Thrives seeks sponsor for Esports World Cup

Pakistan’s top PUBG Mobile team 4Thrives seeks sponsor for Esports World Cup

4Thrives Esports, one of the top-performing teams in Pakistan’s competitive PUBG Mobile circuit, is currently in search of a sponsor to support their journey ahead.

4Thrives Esports was formed in December 2024 and has quickly become a powerhouse in South Asian PUBG Mobile. They have gained a following in Pakistan as well as across the region for their aggressive gameplay, smart roster changes, and consistent results.

Recently, the team made history by becoming the first Pakistani PUBG Mobile squad to qualify for the Esports World Cup 2025. They secured this spot by finishing as the second runner-up in the PMSL CSA Spring 2025, competing against some of the best teams from Central and South Asia. This strong performance also puts in a position to qualify for the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC), which has a prize pool of $3,000,000.

The current lineup includes FALAK, IQ, NOCKi, CAIRO, and T20 OP. FALAK, IQ, and NOCKi joined from i8 Esports, while T20 OP came from Seventh Element.

These players have reached this level without any sponsorship. Unlike many top esports teams backed by major companies, 4Thrives has climbed to the top through talent, dedication, and teamwork.

The players are now hoping to find a sponsor who can help them prepare better and represent Pakistan on the global stage. A sponsor would help cover travel, training and other expenses, allowing these young players to focus on their game.

The Esports World Cup 2025 in Riyadh will be one of the biggest gaming events in history, with a total prize pool of over $70,000,000. For PUBG Mobile alone, there will be $2,000,000 up for grabs, and the competition will be fierce with the best teams from every region taking part.

It was time to embrace this change,” she remarked.
