Pakistan stun Belgium 3-0 in debut U19 Volleyball World Championship match

Pakistan made a strong start to the FIVB U19 Volleyball World Championship, defeating world number 7 Belgium 3-0 in their opening match.

This is Pakistan’s debut appearance in the global tournament, and they are currently ranked 19th in the FIVB U19 rankings.

The young Green Shirts showed no signs of nerves as they dominated the court with impressive coordination and energy.

Earlier this week, the Pakistan U16 team also created history by winning the Asian U16 Volleyball Championship 2025, defeating tournament favourites Iran 3-2 in a nail-biting final in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand.

“We are just so grateful to have created history for Pakistan. This win is a result of so many sacrifices,” said head coach Kafaitullah after the win.

The U16 team remained unbeaten throughout the eight-day tournament. Starting in Pool D, they swept South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Chinese Taipei—all with dominant 3-0 victories. They defeated Iran 3-1 in the second round and later beat arch-rivals India in the semifinals before meeting Iran again in the title clash.

This back-to-back success by Pakistan’s U16 and U19 squads is a testament to the potential and resurgence of volleyball in the country.

  • Pakistani fighter ‘King’ Rind slams govt over unfulfilled promises of financial support

Pakistani fighter ‘King’ Rind slams govt over unfulfilled promises of financial support

Pakistan’s top martial artist Shahzaib Rind has accused the country’s political leadership of dishonesty and neglect for allegedly failing to fulfil financial promises made after his international victories.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the three-time national Wushu champion said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced a reward of PKR 5 million in cash and PKR 80 million to support his training and upcoming fights. However, the promises were never fulfilled.

“Our politicians are corrupt. Last time I won, Prime Minister announced 5 million cash for me and 80 million to support my training camp and upcoming fights. It was all a lie. I never got a penny from them. They just take pictures, make fake promises, and forget. Shame,” Rind wrote, tagging the ISPR in his post.

“I don’t know why I haven’t received what I was promised almost 1.5 years ago. I tried to contact the Prime Minister’s team. I haven’t received any response from them,” he said.

Rind, who hails from Quetta and holds a combined Wushu and Kickboxing record of 75 wins and just 4 defeats, added that he has made repeated attempts to contact the Prime Minister’s team but received no response.

Currently the Lightweight World Champion in Karate Combat, Rind’s criticism highlights a recurring issue in Pakistan where athletes are praised after major wins but often left without institutional support.

Last week, Shahzaib clinched the KC Lightweight World Championship at KC 56 with a dominant performance against Brazil’s Luis Rocha. The victory extended his undefeated professional record to 8-0. He dictated the pace of the fight and outclassed Rocha in key exchanges to secure a decisive win in front of a packed crowd.

Rind had already made history in 2024 by becoming Pakistan’s first-ever world champion in Karate Combat after defeating Brazil’s Bruno Roberto De Assis in the KC-49 final in Singapore. He is also a six-time national Wushu champion and previously secured the Combat League title in the United States.

‘He asked me for water and then…’; Classmate shares harrowing details of last hours of Farhan’s life

A classmate of 14-year-old Farhan, who was allegedly beaten to death by his madrassah (seminary) teachers earlier this week in Swat’s Chaliyar village, has shared harrowing details of the last moments of the boy’s life.

The classmate said that Farhan was made to bend down while holding his ears from 2 pm onwards as a punishment. “Then, Qari Bakht Ameen began beating him with a stick. He was later joined by four more individuals in the violence.”

“When the boy became weak, madrassah administrator Farooq locked him in a room where he was beaten again. The torture was so severe that the stick broke. The child kept writhing in pain; his hands and feet had gone numb. After some time, when he regained consciousness, he was again forced to hold his ears. In the evening, in a trembling voice, he asked me for water. As soon as I gave him some, he took his last breath.”

Farhan’s classmate revealed the details of the tragedy in Pushto which were translated by journalist Harmeet Singh into Urdu, and the video was shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday.

    What did Farhan’s uncle say

A leading English newspaper quoted Farhan’s uncle Saddar Ayaz as saying that when his nephew came home, he showed fear about going back to the madrassah and did not want to return.

“I took him to the seminary myself, handed him over to the teachers, and went back,” Ayaz said, adding, “Later that evening, one of the teachers called me and told me that my nephew had fallen in the toilet and died.”

According to the police, the 14-year-old student was shifted to the nearest hospital by students and teachers; however, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Meanwhile, authorities have sealed the madrassah and returned its other students to their parents, District Police Officer (DPO) Omar said on Wednesday.

    DPO statements

Addressing a press conference in his office, flanked by Superintendent of Police (SP) (Investigation) Badshah Hazrat Khan, DPO Omar stated: “When we came to know of this incident, we also thought to check with the other students studying in the madrassah if there was any other case such as this or not. We sent our team to this madrassah and when statements were taken from the children, it was found out that some others had been subjected to violence as well.”

The DPO confirmed that police detained all madrassah staff upon receiving this information, with nine more having been held and a case registered on the police’s complaint under the Child Protection Act.

“Around 160 to 170 students were retrieved and we returned them safely to their families after contacting them and the madrassah was sealed,” he added.

Omar said investigations into any possible sexual assault were underway with samples taken, adding that the relevant section would be added to the First Information Report (FIR) on any confirmation.

The DPO claimed that there were four suspects nominated in the FIR and two were subsequently arrested, with teams established to locate and apprehend the others. “They will not be able to escape the law. We will arrest them as soon as possible,” he said of the absconding suspects.

Additionally, he said the items used to allegedly beat and bind the student were also recovered.

According to the KP Child Protection and Welfare Act of 2010 and its 2018 regulations, corporal punishment is considered a criminal offence and can lead to a penalty of up to six months in jail, a fine of Rs50,000, or both.

I refused a film with Kartik Aaryan: Jannat Mirza

An old video of popular TikToker and actress Jannat Mirza has resurfaced online, in which she claims she was once offered a role alongside Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan.

The viral clip is from a 2020 interview Jannat gave to a YouTube channel, where she candidly discussed her career and the opportunities she turned down.

“I was offered the lead role in a Bollywood film with Kartik Aaryan, but I refused,” she claimed.

When asked why she declined the opportunity, she explained, “Firstly, my father would never allow me to work in an Indian film, and secondly, I myself had no desire to do so.”

  • BCCI agrees to attend Asian Cricket Council meeting

BCCI agrees to attend Asian Cricket Council meeting

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has agreed to attend the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, ending weeks of speculation and tension over its participation.

According to Indian media reports, BCCI, which had earlier refused to attend the meeting, has now confirmed that its Secretary-General Rajeev Shukla will participate virtually. The ACC meeting is scheduled to be chaired by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday.

Earlier, several reports had suggested that BCCI was unhappy with the decision to hold the meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh, amid ongoing political tensions between India and Bangladesh. The Indian board had reportedly informed PCB, BCB, and ACC President Mohsin Naqvi that it would boycott the meeting unless the venue was changed.

Tensions between cricket boards of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan have in the past threatened the stability of regional tournaments like the Asia Cup.

While the BCCI’s influence in global cricket remains strong, this latest development signals a potential softening of its stance amid firm resistance from the ACC leadership. Naqvi’s decision to hold the meeting in Dhaka despite India’s initial objections appears to have prevailed.

This meeting is expected to finalize key arrangements for the 2025 Asia Cup, which is scheduled to take place in September. With the BCCI now on board, albeit virtually, the path seems clearer for progress but underlying tensions still loom over the tournament’s future.

  • Zelensky Faces Backlash Over Corruption Law Shift

Zelensky Faces Backlash Over Corruption Law Shift

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has always positioned himself as a leader fighting corruption. But in July 2025, he approved new laws that many say are weakening anti-corruption institutions. These changes have sparked protests and raised concerns both within and outside Ukraine. In this article, we will explain who Zelensky is, what these new laws mean, and why people are protesting.

    Who Is Volodymyr Zelensky?

Volodymyr Zelensky became Ukraine’s president in 2019. Before politics, he was a well-known comedian and actor. He gained popularity through his role in the TV show Servant of the People, where he played a teacher who becomes president.

Zelensky campaigned on promises to fight corruption, reform politics, and defend Ukraine’s democracy. His presidency took a sharp turn when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. Since then, he has led the country during wartime.

What Are the New Anti-Corruption Law Changes?

On July 22, 2025, Zelensky signed a new law. This law places two key anti-corruption agencies under the control of the Prosecutor General. These two agencies are:

    • NABU (National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine)

    • SAPO (Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office)

Before this law, these agencies were independent. Now, they will report to the prosecutor general, a position appointed by the president himself.

This change has caused concern among many Ukrainians and international partners.

    Why Are People Protesting?

Soon after the law was signed, over 1,000 people took to the streets in Kyiv. This was the largest protest since the Russian invasion in 2022. People are worried the law gives Zelensky too much power and could harm the fight against corruption.

Critics argue that this law permits political interference. They believe it will protect the president’s allies from being investigated. The Anti-Corruption Action Center, a respected NGO, said the law could make these agencies “meaningless.”

What Did Zelensky Say in Defense?

Zelensky defended the law by saying Ukraine needs a strong justice system during the war. He claimed that placing the agencies under the prosecutor general will make them more efficient.

“We all share a common enemy: the Russian occupiers,” Zelensky said. “We need law enforcement that ensures real justice.” He also said he understands the concerns and promised to “resolve existing issues.”

    What Do Ukraine’s Allies Think?

The European Union called the law a “serious step back.” Ukraine has been trying to join the EU. Fighting corruption is one of the main conditions for EU membership. The EU is now concerned that these reforms may hinder Ukraine’s progress.

Transparency International, a global watchdog, also criticized the move. They said the raids on NABU were an attempt to weaken post-2014 anti-corruption efforts.

What Is NABU and Why Is It Important?

NABU was established in 2015, following the revolution in Ukraine. Its job is to investigate top-level corruption. Since its inception, it has exposed numerous scandals, including those within Zelensky’s administration.

Recently, a NABU employee was arrested for spying for Russia. This has added more drama to the ongoing debate.

    Is Ukraine Still Fighting Corruption?

Yes, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult. Ukraine has made progress over the years. It ranked 105th in the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index. That’s a big improvement from 144th in 2013.

However, many believe that this new law could hinder that progress. If anti-corruption agencies are not free from political control, their work may no longer be trusted.

    Could This Help Russia?

Some supporters of the law say protests over the issue could divide the country. They warn that a political crisis will help Russia by weakening Ukraine’s unity. But critics argue that silencing watchdogs and protesters helps Russia even more.

    International Reactions

Western countries, including EU members, are watching closely. Ukraine needs international aid and support to fight Russia. Many fear that weakening anti-corruption institutions could put that support at risk.

Even the Kremlin reacted. Russian spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Ukraine has “a lot of corruption,” calling the issue “sensitive.”

    Will Zelensky Change His Mind?

After meeting with NABU and SAPO, Zelensky said he hears what people are saying. Both agencies urged parliament to reverse the changes. For now, it is unclear whether Zelensky will propose amendments or stick to his decision.

    Beginning of a Coaching Journey

Daboll’s coaching career started in 1997 at Michigan State University. He worked as a graduate assistant coach under Nick Saban, who later became one of the greatest college football coaches. This early job allowed Daboll to learn from the best and gain a deeper understanding of the game.

    Success with Alabama Crimson Tide

In 2017, Daboll returned to college football. He became the offensive coordinator for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, once again working under Nick Saban.

This decision proved to be smart. Daboll helped the team win the College Football Playoff National Championship that year. In the title game, Alabama beat Georgia in overtime. Daboll’s offensive play-calling helped lead the team to victory.

His time in Alabama brought him national attention once again. NFL teams started showing interest in hiring him.

Under Daboll’s guidance, Allen improved quickly. He became one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. The team’s offense also became one of the league’s best.

In 2020, the Bills reached the AFC Championship Game. Daboll was named the NFL Assistant Coach of the Year. His play designs, leadership, and quarterback development made him a top coaching candidate.
