The film’s newly released wedding song, “Sada Ashna,” is going viral for its vibrant visuals, Pashto-inspired beats, and an emotional surprise: Mahira Khan wears her own Mayoun dress dupatta in the song, complete with a dazzling red chunri.

Mahira transforms into a traditional Pashtun bride in the song. Dressed in a mustard-colored Zara Shahjahan outfit, she pairs it with her original Mayoun dupatta, adding a deeply personal and authentic element to the song. The combination of the film’s styling with a piece from her real life creates a special cinematic moment.

“She looked absolutely gorgeous in the red dupatta,” a viewer added, praising her vibrant presence in the video.

The mustard-yellow ensemble with golden kinari and green borders, combined with the striking red dupatta, creates a stunning visual, adding depth to the character she portrays.

Featuring Mahira, Humayun, and Ahmed Ali Butt in traditional Pashtun attire, Sada Ashna is a high-energy track filled with celebratory dance moves and colorful visuals. The choreography and styling pay homage to Pashtun wedding traditions, giving fans a taste of regional heritage in a mainstream cinematic setting.

“Wow! I’m Pashtun, and this is my culture it feels wonderful to see it represented so beautifully,” said one proud viewer.

Another added, “The vibe is euphoric. It’s like watching a real wedding!”

Love Guru stars Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed in lead roles and is produced by Humayun Saeed, Shehzad Nasib, and Jerjees Seja, with Salman Iqbal as executive producer. The script is written by Vasay Chaudhry, who is known for writing Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 1 and 2.

The film also features Momina Iqbal, Mira Sethi, Sohai Ali Abro, Amara Malik, Adnan Shah Tipu, Marina Khan, Usman Peerzada, and Javed Sheikh. There are also reports of a surprise guest appearance by a well-known Pakistani actor.

Over 200 inmates break out of Malir Jail, dozens recaptured

In a major security breach and the biggest jailbreak in recent years, hundreds of inmates reportedly escaped from Malir Jail on Monday night. While some fugitives have been recaptured, many remain at large.

Jail Superintendent Arshad Shah, speaking to the media early Tuesday, confirmed that over 80 escapees have been apprehended so far. A search operation is currently underway to locate and arrest the remaining prisoners.

According to Superintendent Shah, the jailbreak occurred when inmates from Circles 4 and 5 were moved out of their barracks as a safety measure during tremors felt in the area.

“More than 600 prisoners were outside their cells at the time. Amid the chaos, 216 managed to flee,” he said, adding that over 135 prisoners have yet to be recaptured, and search efforts are ongoing.

Describing the incident as one of the most serious jailbreaks in recent years, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar stated that the escape occurred when between 700 and 1,000 inmates gathered near the main gate following the evacuation.

He told reporters that nearly 100 prisoners forced open the gate and fled. “Around 46 have been caught, and we expect the rest will be rearrested soon,” he added.

Lanjar said that all escaped inmates have been identified, and targeted raids are underway at their residences and adjoining areas. He confirmed the Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had been briefed about the situation.

Sindh’s home minister maintained that while preliminary reports suggested structural damage, it was later confirmed that the escape was carried out through the main gate, ruling out the claim of any wall collapse.

Hinting at possible staff negligence, the minister said an inquiry committee, including officers from the police and other relevant agencies, would be formed. “Strict disciplinary action will be taken against those found responsible,” he added.

Meanwhile, following the escape, rescue officials reported that three Frontier Cops (FC) personnel sustained injuries in the ensuing stampede and chaos. They have been shifted to a private hospital for immediate treatment.

“When the quake hit, everyone started breaking the gates. Many ran off. I was arrested in a weapons case and went into hiding after escaping,” said Siraj, one of the rearrested prisoners, while speaking to the media.

FIR reveals harrowing details of TikToker Sana Yousaf’s murder

New details of the murder of 17-year-old TikTok star Sana Yousaf, who was shot dead inside her home in Islamabad’s G-13 sector on Monday, have come to light after a FIR was filed by the victim’s mother, Farzana Yousaf.

According to the complaint, Farzana lives with her two children, a 15-year-old son and her daughter Sana, in Islamabad. Her husband was away at the time of the incident, and her sister-in-law, Latifa Shah, was staying as a guest at their home.

On the day of the incident, Farzana, her daughter Sana, and Latifa Shah were present in the house. Around 3:15 PM, an unknown man suddenly entered the house. The man was of medium build and height, wearing a black shirt and checkered trousers. He was carrying a weapon and went straight to the room where Sana was sitting.

According to the FIR, the man opened fire on Sana with the clear intent to kill. Two bullets struck her in the chest, causing her to collapse on the spot. The attacker then quickly fled down the stairs and escaped.

After the sound of gunshots, neighbours gathered around as Farzana and others screamed for help. They rushed Sana to a hospital using a neighbour’s vehicle, but she could not survive and passed away due to her injuries.

Farzana and Latifa Shah both witnessed the incident and told the police they could identify the suspect if he was brought before them. She also mentioned that her daughter was a social media influencer, and the attack was a serious and deliberate act of violence.

Police reached the hospital soon after receiving the report and completed the necessary legal formalities, including preparing the post-mortem request. The case was registered under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (murder), and the investigation was handed over to the Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU). Inspector Fakhar Abbas from HIU and his team are currently working on the case.

So far, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Sana had more than 800,000 followers on TikTok where her videos routinely garnered hundreds of thousands of views. Her content mostly included lip syncing to Pakistani and Indian songs along with some Pashto hits. In various videos she can be seen hanging out with her friends at cafes and restaurants.

Over on Instagram, the teenaged influencer has almost half a million followers, while the content is mostly similar to her Tik Tok videos.

The last video she has posted on both accounts, just a few hours before being shot dead, shows her celebrating her birthday, cutting a cake and then having food with her friends at an Islamabad restaurant.

  • Profit taking grips PSX after early rally

Profit taking grips PSX after early rally

Following optimism regarding the upcoming federal budget, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) continued its upward trend to cross 120,000 points during intraday trading. However, despite investor confidence surging in the early hours of the day, the market closed in the red on Monday.

The KSE-100, the benchmark index of the PSX, reached an intraday high of 120,590.77 points. The index peaked at 9:56 AM after which significant profit taking took hold of the market, causing the market to close at a lower, yet respectable, 118,877.80 points.

For reference, the KSE-100 closed at 119,691.09 points on Friday, after which the index recorded a shrinking of 0.68 percent during trading hours on Monday, leading to an 813.29 point rise. The market displayed a slowdown around 3:25 PM as the KSE-100 hit its intraday trading low of 118,672.84 points, closing the day lower than when trading hours started.

Of the 17 indexes listed on the exchange, 14 remained in the red with the All-share index (ALLSHR) shrinking by 0.4 percent, which translates into a 302.57 point loss for the index. Unlike the KSE-100, which tracks the performance of the 100 largest and most liquid companies, the ALLSHR index records the performance of all publicly listed companies on the PSX.

A vast array of companies witnessed a rise in share prices with Invest Capital Investment Bank Limited (ICIBL) and TPL Trakker Limited (TPLT) winning big, to the tune of growth rates that sat at 57.14 percent (ICIBL) and 15.97 percent (TPLT).

However, not every publicly listed stock witnessed an improvement as many companies witnessed sharp declines. Of these declining companies, the one that fared the worst during intra-day trading was Idrees Textile Mills Limited (IDRT), which posted a 10.01 percent decline in its position.

Recent reports have suggested that the KSE-100 index could cross 165,000 points by December 2025, owing to a drop in interest rates and an improved state of the wider economy. These factors are responsible for creating a business-friendly environment, lending weight to analysts’ claims.

  • Top Pakistan, India generals warn each other at global defence leaders’ moot

Top Pakistan, India generals warn each other at global defence leaders’ moot

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) of Pakistan, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of India, General Anil Chauhan, delivered contrasting messages during simultaneous sessions at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Saturday.

Shangri-La Dialogue is a high-profile forum that draws defence leaders from across the world. It took place from May 30 to June 1 in the South East Asian country.

Speaking during a panel on regional crisis mechanisms, General Mirza reportedly said that prolonged crisis management without finding real solutions could eventually lead to an uncontrollable conflict.

“It has become imperative to move beyond conflict management towards conflict resolution,” General Mirza said, adding, “This will ensure sustainable peace.”

Calling Kashmir a “core issue” between the two nations, General Mirza emphasised its resolution by United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the wish of the Kashmiri people.

He said that New Delhi is avoiding dialogue on Kashmir, noting, “When there is no crisis, Kashmir is never discussed. But it’s central to peace in the region.”

“Given Indian policies, the absence of a crisis management mechanism may not give enough time for global powers to intervene and prevent escalation. They could be too late to stop the damage,” General Mirza cautioned.

Additionally, he further said that following the military conflict of a nuclear-armed country, the threshold of strategic stability had been lowered to “dangerous levels”.

Meanwhile, General Chauhan said that New Delhi has redrawn its “red line” on terrorism.

“What India has done, politically, is draw a new red line of intolerance against terror,” he said, referring to its cowardly attack on Pakistani cities, including Bahawalpur and Muridke, killing dozens of innocent civilians.

“This operation lies in the military domain and should offer lessons to our adversary. We have been subjected to this proxy war of terror for more than two decades,” he added.

At least 26 people were killed in a terror attack in the Pahalgam area of held Kashmir when unidentified gunmen opened fire on tourists on April 22. India had alleged Pakistani involvement – an allegation denied by Islamabad which also suggested an independent probe – and later launched cross-border strikes. The attacks led to intense clashes between the two countries till a ceasefire was agreed upon with the help of United States (US) amid heavy losses on the Indian side.

  • Here’s how much tax you’ll have to pay on bank withdrawals under ‘new policy’

Here’s how much tax you’ll have to pay on bank withdrawals under ‘new policy’

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reportedly suggested that the withholding tax on withdrawals from banks be raised from 0.6 percent to 1.2 percent for non-filers. This move intends to boost the federal government’s revenues for the upcoming fiscal year (FY) 2025-26.

A reputable news platform was informed by sources that the FBR intends to utilise the hike in taxes to “penalise” non-filers. Aside from the aforementioned disadvantage, the government has non-filers in their crosshairs on other fronts too, as Islamabad will reportedly scrap the non-filers category altogether, curtailing their financial freedoms.

Reports suggest that non-filers may not be allowed to make financial transactions of any kind. While the government expects its move to broaden the tax net by penalising non-filers, analysts have outlined how this could lead to the rise of unrecorded transactions.

This may cause a significant setback to the federal government, which is implementing reforms to transition the economy towards a cashless system. According to reports, in meetings held last week as part of pre-budget consultations, the finance minister pushed for stronger digitisation efforts and a move to limit cash transactions.

While the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue intends to curtail transactions made by non-filers in the upcoming Finance Bill 2025-26, it merits a mention that the federal government has not yet provided an official confirmation for the hike in taxes.

Reports suggest that the FBR’s suggestion, if approved, will double the tax rate on cash withdrawals made by non-filers. However, the taxes are likely to be applicable only on cash withdrawals exceeding Rs50,000. Currently, cash withdrawals exceeding Rs50,000 via either credit or debit cards are subject to a 0.6 percent tax.

Reports indicate that withdrawals larger than Rs50,000 will result in the tax amount being deducted from the entire amount. Under a 1.2 percent withdrawal rate, withdrawals amounting to Rs75,000 in a single day will result in non-filers paying Rs900 to the federal government. Similarly, non-filers withdrawing Rs100,000 in a single day will have to face a tax of Rs1200.

While the tax seems nominal at first glance, it could prove to be a respectable source of revenue for the government if non-filers continue to use the formal banking system. However, the government will have to ensure that non-filers do not resort to informal channels for transferring cash.
