Police official holding tray of cash for TikToker sparks furious debate

An undated video purportedly showing a police official holding a tray full of cash bundles for TikToker Kashif Zameer has sparked widespread debate online.

The viral video shows a man in a police uniform standing beside a stage, carrying a tray filled with cash bundles for the TikToker, who is picking up the money and tossing it into the air over the people present on the stage. A couple of people can also be seen dancing around the TikToker to the beat of Qawwali music.

Since the video has made rounds on social media, netizens are debating about the role and decorum expected of police officers. A social media user, while tagging the Punjab Police Official, shared the video on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Have the officers of @OfficialDPRPP been reduced to just holding trays of cash while TikTokers throw money around?”

Another user wrote, “Rarely have I ever felt such secondhand embarrassment as I did watching this video. What could be a greater insult to the uniform entrusted by the public?”

One of the users maintained, “In Kasur, the police humiliated people by filing cases over dancing — and here, the same police are holding up cash for a TikToker while he dances. This is how they’re performing their duty?”

“Punjab Police has been given additional responsibilities… Punjab Police will now also perform such duties. A police officer is standing holding currency, and Raeeszada (son of a wealthy person) is throwing it at a dancer and singer,” mocked another user.

Known for his love of wearing heavy gold chains and keeping pet lions at home. Zameer- as per his official TikTok account- is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Chaudhary Textiles. He has 565K followers and 13.6 million likes on his TikTok account.

In 2021, Zameer was arrested by the Lahore Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) on charges of defrauding Turkish actor Engin Altan Duzyatan, who played the role of Ertugrul Ghazi in the historical drama series Dirilis: Ertugrul.

In a complaint filed against the TikToker, Duzyatan had accused Zameer of misusing him to earn illegal benefits. He also alleged that the suspect had issued him bogus cheques against agreements and defamed him by using his name and pictures without his permission for ulterior motives.

According to media reports, Duzyatan had travelled to Pakistan on the invitation of the suspect in December 2020 and signed a contract with him. He later found out that the suspect had sent him bogus cheques for payments.

  • Bangladesh reintroduces ‘except Israel’ phrase on passports

Bangladesh reintroduces ‘except Israel’ phrase on passports

Bangladesh has restored an “except Israel” inscription on passports, local media reported Sunday, effectively barring its citizens from travelling to that country.

Israel is a flashpoint issue in Muslim-majority Bangladesh, which does not recognise it.

The phrase “valid for all countries except Israel,” which was printed on Bangladeshi passports for decades, was removed during the later years of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s tenure.

Nilima Afroze, a deputy secretary at the home ministry, told Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) news agency on Sunday that authorities had “issued a directive last week” to restore the inscription.

“The director general of the department of immigration and passport was asked to take necessary measures to implement this change,” local newspaper The Daily Star quoted Afroze as saying Sunday.

In 2021, the words “except Israel” were removed from passports, although the then government under Hasina clarified that the country’s stance on Israel had not changed.

The country’s support for an independent Palestinian state was visible on Saturday when around 100,000 people gathered in Dhaka in solidarity with Gaza.

Israel has been committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza after Hamas’s October 2023 attack on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,218 people, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures.

A fragile ceasefire between the warring parties fell apart last month and Gaza’s health ministry said Sunday that at least 1,574 Palestinians had been killed since then, taking the overall death toll since the war began to 50,944.

Indian official Olympic account pays tribute to Arshad Nadeem’s historic win

Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has received recognition from across the border after his remarkable gold medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In a rare gesture, an Indian official Instagram page acknowledged his outstanding performance and featured his journey as a source of inspiration for young people.

The Indian platform not only praised Arshad’s Olympic triumph but also highlighted his video as motivational content, calling his story a powerful example of resilience and dedication.

The video shows the Pakistani athlete’s performance in the javelin throw event at the Tokyo Olympics, held in 2021, where he qualified for the final but missed out on winning a medal for the country.

At that time, India’s Neeraj Chopra took the gold with a throw of 87.58 metres — marking a historic moment as India’s first-ever Olympic gold in athletics.

In the Instagram post, Nadeem is seen heartbroken after his disappointment in Tokyo. The video then shifts to the unforgettable scenes from the Paris 2024 Olympics, capturing the emotional moment when Arshad, visibly moved, raises his arms in celebration after winning gold with a massive throw of 92.97 metres — setting a new Olympic record.

Arshad, who hails from Mian Channu in Punjab, made history by becoming the first Pakistani javelin thrower to achieve consistent international success. His gold medal win at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and a silver at the 2023 World Athletics Championship already cemented his status as a national hero.

However, it was his gold medal at the Paris Olympics that truly elevated his legacy. After missing out on a medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Arshad staged a remarkable comeback, defying all odds to bring glory to Pakistan.

  • ‘Safe basant’ on its way to Lahore?

‘Safe basant’ on its way to Lahore?

Is Lahore’s beloved festival of Basant making a comeback to the city? Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar certainly thinks so.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, considered one of the closest aides to party head Nawaz Sharif, told journalists on Sunday in London that the Punjab government is preparing to celebrate a ‘safe Basant’.

Reports had been circulating on media outlets during the previous week that Punjab government was planning to celebrate Basant in February 2026.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has constituted a high-level committee has been formed to chalk out a strategy for the event, with officials from the Walled City Authority, the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, the CCPO of Lahore, representatives from various departments and members of the Kite Flying Association.

Media sources were quoted as saying that among the suggestions being studied by the committee are plans to limit the festival to the Walled City (androon sheher) or ban motorcycles for two days.

More pertinently are the suggestions pertaining to the sale and purchase of kites and string. String makers will need to be registered with the government while only vendors registered with the District Administration will be allowed to sell kites and string.

Use of glass-coated or metallic string will be strictly prohibited under guidelines issued by District Administration. Only strings complying with government issued SOPs will be sold to the public.

  • Trump’s tariffs likely to cause $1.4 billion hit to Pakistani exports

Trump’s tariffs likely to cause $1.4 billion hit to Pakistani exports

The tariffs levied against Pakistan by the US call for rapid action by both businesses and the government to scramble to diversify export goods and destinations. A study conducted by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) has outlined how Donald Trump’s tariffs could result in massive layoffs in the textile, leather, rice, surgical and sporting goods sectors.

The study was conducted by senior research economists at PIDE, including Dr Usman Qadir, Dr Muhammad Zeshan and Dr Shujaat Farooq. These researchers extensively considered the possible effects of the 29 percent reciprocal tariff rate on Pakistani goods entering the US.

However, reports reveal that the tariff rate Pakistan faces is actually significantly higher than 29 percent. Tacking on the 8.6 percent Most Favoured Nation (MFN) duty, the total tariff rate could surge to a staggering 37.6 percent.

This could prove devastating for Pakistani exporters as the aforementioned tariff rates could result in exports shrinking by up to 25 percent. To put the loss into perspective, Pakistan could experience a foreign exchange inflow reduction of approximately $1.4 billion.

While tariffs are currently suspended, data from the study indicates that if Trump reinstates the tariffs, the domestic textile sector would be hit hardest. Reports suggest that the textile industry alone could cause a spike in the domestic unemployment rate as PIDE projects that half a million workers could be fired.

PIDE has indicated that the economy could witness a substantial drop in trade-related foreign exchange inflows, which could result in macroeconomic instability. Historically, Pakistan has run a trade deficit against its trading partners, and with US tariffs in place, some believe that the deficit could worsen.

According to data from credible reports, Pakistan exported goods valued at $5.3 billion to the US in 2024 – A sizable portion of which were textiles. Domestic exporters are slated to lose market share to neighbouring India, which has not been hit as hard by Donald Trump’s levies.

PIDE has suggested that relevant authorities participate in diplomatic efforts to dampen the effects of the tariffs by possible revisions. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently authorized a delegation from Pakistan to visit the US and attempt to secure better terms for Pakistan.

Some believe that if Pakistan decreases the tariffs it levies on US imports, the Trump administration could reduce its rate on Pakistan. This could significantly benefit the local textile industry as it imports a large quantity of cotton from the US.

As per reports, Pakistan imported cotton worth $181 million in 2024 to create final goods. If tariffs on the US are reduced, it could ultimately raise the competitiveness of the textile industry and potentially allow the Pakistani delegation to argue for lower reciprocal tariffs.

Social media reacts to James Vince receiving hairdryer as reward in PSL 10

A stunning performance by James Vince in the third match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 turned heads, but it was the post-match gift that truly stole the spotlight.

The high-scoring thriller took place at the National Bank Stadium on Saturday, where the Karachi Kings faced off against the Multan Sultans. Batting first, Multan Sultans’ captain Mohammad Rizwan played a brilliant unbeaten inning of 105 runs, which included nine fours and five sixes. His efforts helped set a daunting target of 235 runs for the Karachi Kings.

However, the match took a dramatic turn when English batter James Vince stepped in with an explosive knock of 101 runs off just 43 balls, featuring 14 fours and four sixes. He not only turned the tide but also led his team to a stunning victory, snatching the win away from the Multan Sultans.

In recognition of his match-winning innings, Vince was declared Player of the Match. But it was what followed that caught everyone by surprise. The Karachi Kings franchise chose to reward the outstanding performance by the star of the day with an unusual gift: a hairdryer.

The video of Vince receiving the hairdryer inside the team’s dressing room was later shared on social media by Karachi Kings, sparking mixed reactions from fans. While some found the gesture humorous and entertaining, others criticised it, questioning the choice of the gift.

Here’s how social media users reacted:

One user wrote, “Use it to dry the pitch in case of rain. Good choice.”

Another commented, “Absolute joke. Are you guys promoting PSL or insulting Pakistan?”

A sarcastic remark came from a fan saying, “Ya jeeto Pakistan chal rha ??”

Someone suggested humorously, “Next game, give Roti Maker ☺”

Another user expressed frustration, “Are You Serious? Giving Hair Dryer in Prize? Q mzk bnwa rhe ho PSL ka bhai”

While one asked, “Is this a JOKE? The Player of the Match receives a HAIR DRYER?”

This is the first time in PSL history that a franchise has gifted such an item to a player.

  • PSL 10: Lahore Qalandars outclass Quetta Gladiators in one-sided clash

PSL 10: Lahore Qalandars outclass Quetta Gladiators in one-sided clash

Lahore Qalandars on Sunday delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Quetta Gladiators by 67 runs in both teams’ second match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Rawalpindi.

After winning the toss, Quetta Gladiators opted to bowl first.

Lahore Qalandars took full advantage of the opportunity, posting an impressive total of 219 for the loss of six wickets.

Fakhar Zaman led the charge with a blistering 67 off 39 balls, including seven fours and three sixes, while Sam Billings played a crucial knock, scoring 50 in the final overs. Abdullah Shafique and Daryl Mitchell also contributed with 37 runs each.

Quetta’s spinners showed some resistance, with Akeal Hosein and Abrar Ahmed claiming two wickets apiece, but the pace attack failed to contain the flow of runs.

Chasing a daunting target of 220, Quetta Gladiators faltered right from the start. Saud Shakeel was dismissed for just one run by Shaheen Shah Afridi, with the team total at 2. Finn Allen followed soon after, falling for a duck — again to Shaheen. Hassan Nawaz also failed to make an impact, getting out for just one run to Asif Afridi, leaving Quetta reeling at 9 for 3.

Kusal Mendis showed some resistance, scoring 28 runs before being caught off Haris Rauf. Rilee Rossouw was the top-scorer for Quetta with 44 runs but was bowled out by Akeal Hosein as the lineup continued to crumble.

Quetta then lost wickets in quick succession —Shoaib Malik, Akeal Hosein, Mohammad Amir, and Abrar Ahmed were dismissed at a team total of 106, 107, 108 and 114, respectively. Faheem Ashraf was the last notable contributor with 21 runs.

The Gladiators were eventually bowled out for 140 in 16.2 overs. Akeal Hosein was the pick of the bowlers for Lahore with three wickets. Haris Rauf also chipped in with one wicket.
