Cristiano Ronaldo enhances security measures after threats in Saudi Arabia

Portugal’s star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez have made significant changes to their security arrangements in Saudi Arabia following threatening messages received on social media.

According to media reports, after receiving alarming messages, the Al-Nassr star and his partner decided to strengthen their security. They have replaced their former chief bodyguard and other security staff.

Additionally, they have reduced the online presence of their children and refrained from sharing personal family moments on social media. The Saudi police are also cooperating in their enhanced security measures.

A new chief security officer, Claudio Miguel Vez, has been appointed. He is known as an expert in high-risk protection in Portugal. Since joining Al-Nassr in 2023, Ronaldo and Georgina have been residing in Saudi Arabia, adapting to their new life with heightened security.

Moreover, Ronaldo has replaced his previous bodyguard, Claudio Vez, who has previously protected musicians and footballers residing in Portugal’s high-risk areas, including Rafael Leão and Gelson Martins.

Recently, during Paris Fashion Week, Georgina Rodriguez faced controversy when Vez used a powerful torch to prevent photographers from capturing her as she exited her vehicle. This act drew criticism on social media.

  • Tariffs war: Pakistan to send high-profile delegation to US fearing massive losses

Tariffs war: Pakistan to send high-profile delegation to US fearing massive losses

Lawmakers in Islamabad have decided to send a high-profile delegation to the United States (US) to go over the tariffs that US President Donald Trump has levied on Pakistani goods entering the US. As per credible reports, the delegation intends to boost trade volume between the two economies.

This move was authorised by Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif as the government grew worried about a potential drop in export volume to the US. Pakistan, along with several other countries, has been slammed by tariffs.

The situation is alarming for Pakistani exporters as their goods will now face a 39 percent tariff once they reach the US’s shores. Pakistan’s tariff is comprised of a country-specific rate of 29 percent and a baseline rate of 10 percent – which was unilaterally imposed on all countries. This has caused the competitiveness of Pakistani exports to shrink in the international market.

While many consider this move to be hostile by the US, analysts have outlined how Pakistan itself has historically levied high tariffs against the US. Currently, Pakistan has a 58 percent tariff rate against all US products entering the country.

Facing falling competitiveness because of taxes, PM Shehbaz Sharif has authorised the Pakistani delegation to draw up a framework that can protect Pakistan’s commercial interests.  As per reports, the Pakistani delegation consists of several exporters and business leaders. If successful, the delegation may secure better terms with its largest single-country export destination: The United States.

Data from reports suggests that the value of exports to the US stand at a respectable $6 billion, which are now under threat. These exports are primarily textiles, causing many business owners to evaluate the confidence they had placed in the textile sector.

Projections from analysts indicate that the aforementioned developments could result in Islamabad’s failure to realise approximately $500 to $700 million in duties. While it might seem like a small amount at first glance, many believe that the effects could be devastating for the cash-strapped economy.

Reports have revealed that PM Shehbaz Sharif is willing to work with the Trump administration to attain a better deal for Pakistan. This is because the decision to send a team to the US came mere hours after the Pakistani premier held a meeting with senior officials from the US.

During this meeting, PM Sharif outlined Pakistan’s willingness to cooperate with the US in matters pertaining to trade, investment, counter-terrorism and regional security.

Shadab responds to nepotism allegations over national comeback

Pakistan’s T20 vice-captain, Shadab Khan, has addressed allegations that his return to the national team was facilitated by his relationship with former cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq, who is also his father-in-law.

In an interview with a cricket website, the all-rounder dismissed the claims, saying, “I have been playing for the national team for the past six to seven years and have performed well. It has only been two years since my marriage, yet my connection with Saqlain Mushtaq is repeatedly brought up, which is hurtful.”

Shadab further expressed his disappointment over the comments made by former cricketers.

“It hurts the most when our own former players say such things because they understand what a player goes through,” he said.

Addressing his performance and efforts behind the scenes, he remarked, “I have said before that a lot of work happens behind the scenes that people don’t see. But in our country, only results matter. We are working hard for them, and Saqlain Mushtaq is helping me improve my bowling.”

It is worth mentioning that Saqlain Mushtaq has been accused of lobbying for Shadab’s selection as vice-captain for the New Zealand tour, despite him not being initially included in the playing XI.

  • ‘Trump asked to bring Shakil Afridi to US’

‘Trump asked to bring Shakil Afridi to US’

Former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Tuesday claimed US President Donald Trump has been asked to bring Shakil Afridi, a Pakistani physician convicted of espionage, to America.

Afridi was accused of assisting the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in obtaining DNA samples of former Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden through a fake vaccination campaign. Afridi was arrested near Peshawar, two weeks after Osama’s death.

Appearing on a private media outlet, the ex-Finance Minister said that former United States (US) Vice President Mike Pence had initially demanded of then Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi that Shakil Afridi be released.

Following the demand, Miftah said that the matter was discussed in the National Security Council (NSC) meeting, adding that during the meeting, the release of Pakistani neuroscientist Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was also discussed.

Miftah said, “At one time, there was a consensus among all state institutions and political leaders that the prisoner [Shakil Afridi] should be sent to America,” adding that the release might give a psychological win to Trump, which doesn’t cost anything to Pakistan.

“You are pointing towards Shakil Afridi, who was involved in espionage in Pakistan. If we talk about him, we would have to talk about Dr. Aafia Siddiqui too,” said the programme host. In response, Miftah agreed with the host’s suggestions, saying, “At one point, the government also had the same stance.”

In September 2010, Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 years of imprisonment by a US federal court in Manhattan after she was convicted of firing at US troops in Afghanistan while in their custody and six other charges brought against her.

Miftah maintained that Siddiqui could also be brought back to Pakistan on humanitarian grounds since she had been imprisoned for so long. “There is no harm in taking the first step if we have to save the country’s exports and jobs,” he opined while viewing the Trump tariff policy.

It merits a mention that two months ago, Siddiqui’s American lawyer Clive Smith had suggested the swap of the neuroscientist with Afridi. However, the federal government informed the court that the proposal was not feasible.

Additional Attorney General (AAG) Munawar Iqbal Duggal informed the court that there is no agreement between Pakistan and the US for the exchange of prisoners. He emphasized that both Afridi and Siddiqui were Pakistani citizens, and such an exchange would not be legally or diplomatically viable.

Wait, what? Fans shocked as doctor reveals Neelam Muneer’s go-to skincare treatment

Renowned actress Neelam Muneer, admired for her glowing skin and timeless beauty, has finally revealed her skincare secret — and it’s not what fans expected.

Having been in the spotlight since childhood, Neelam has won hearts with her talent and natural charm. Many have also wondered how she maintains such flawless skin, and Dr. Ambreen, a dermatologist who recently appeared on a talk show, has now lifted the veil on Neelam’s beauty routine.

According to Dr. Ambreen, Neelam is a firm believer in modern skincare rather than artificial enhancements. “She doesn’t need much — her beauty is already remarkable,” said Dr. Ambreen. “But there is one advanced treatment she absolutely loves: exosome therapy. In fact, that’s the reason she came to me. Neelam told me, ‘I’ve tried PRP many times, but now I really want to get this one done.’”

Exosome therapy, often considered one of the latest breakthroughs in cosmetic dermatology, involves using plasma extracted from a newborn’s placenta. When injected into the skin, it tightens, hydrates, and rejuvenates the face, visibly reducing fine lines and giving an instant youthful glow.

Described as both expensive and highly effective, the treatment is gaining popularity among celebrities for its immediate and long-lasting results.

Neelam’s recent wedding photos with her life partner have already caused a buzz online, and now her skincare revelation has only added to the admiration fans feel for her natural beauty.

  • Journalist claims Azam Swati urged Imran Khan to allow dialogue ’15-20 times’

Journalist claims Azam Swati urged Imran Khan to allow dialogue ’15-20 times’

Journalist Fahad Shehbaz Khan claimed on Monday that senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Swati, during his visit to Adiala Jail on Eid day, asked former Prime Minister Imran Khan 15-20 times to give him permission for dialogue with the establishment.

In a video statement, the journalist said that in the 30-minute meeting, Swati emphasized that the path of reconciliation must be followed.

Fahad further claimed that Swati, while listing his sacrifices to Imran Khan, said that he personally bore the expenses of 1,100 prisoners — from cigarettes to food. “I treated the imprisoned boys in jails like my own sons,” the journalist quoted Swati as saying.

Fahad stated that Swati complained to Imran Khan that the latter had awarded party posts to an individual who used to refer to him and his father with derogatory names. “There was also one personality present in the conference room meeting at Adiala Jail along with Swati. On every concern that Swati raised, Imran Khan told the individual what to do,” said the journalist.

Touching upon the 26th Constitutional Amendment and the February 8 general election, Imran Khan said that he knows the incumbent government better than Swati, said the journalist, adding that Imran Khan informed the leader that the government would use delaying tactics [regarding dialogue].

“Even in the final moments, when Azam Swati was leaving the meeting, he was saying to Imran Khan, ‘Give me permission for negotiations,’ to which Imran Khan replied, ‘You’ve already tried twice before,’” said the journalist.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan confirmed that he instructed Swati to initiate dialogue with the military establishment, The News reported on Wednesday (today).

On Tuesday, while speaking to party leaders and lawyers during a meeting at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, the former premier emphasised that the outreach was not related to his legal cases but was done solely for the sake of Pakistan.

As per the report, Imran Khan told his visitors that he has never closed the door on dialogue with the establishment. However, he clarified that his party had ceased talks with the current government, which he described as lacking any real authority.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Senator Ali Zafar and lawyers Zaheer Abbas, Mubashar Awan, and Ali Imran were the visitors at Adiala Jail yesterday. However, Aleema Khan, along with his sisters, was barred from meeting her brother in jail.

In response to Swati’s recent video statement, Imran Khan was quoted as saying, “This is about Pakistan, democracy, the rule of law, and respecting the people’s mandate.”

Swati, in a video statement, had earlier revealed that the party founder had directed him to engage with the establishment while keeping the nature of the discussions confidential.

  • PSL: Salman Butt’s commentary gig leaves franchises unhappy

PSL: Salman Butt’s commentary gig leaves franchises unhappy

The inclusion of former Pakistan captain Salman Butt, who was convicted in a spot-fixing scandal, in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) commentary panel has sparked outrage among franchises.

In 2010, during a test played at Lord’s, Salman Butt, along with pacers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, was found guilty of spot-fixing, leading to their imprisonment in London. Following the completion of their bans, only Amir managed to make a comeback to the national team, while Asif relocated to the United States, and Butt is currently heading the Ghani Glass Institute of Cricket in Lahore.

According to reports, when PSL franchises learned about Salman Butt’s inclusion in the commentary panel, they collectively sent a letter to officials. Without mentioning any names, the letter urged authorities not to include any individual involved in unethical activities, fixing, or someone who has served jail time, as it could damage the league’s credibility.

However, PSL officials dismissed the concerns, and Butt’s name remained on the final commentary panel.

In response to the franchisees’ complaints, officials argued that Butt would only be doing Urdu commentary, meaning his involvement wouldn’t be widely noticed outside Pakistan.

Notably, Salman Butt recently conducted interviews with national cricketers for PCB Digital. Additionally, in late 2023, when chief selector Wahab Riaz appointed him as his advisor, he faced severe backlash, forcing an immediate reversal.

It is also worth mentioning that the organization Butt is currently associated with has a representative on the PCB Governing Board, raising further questions about his selection.
