  • Kevin Pietersen talks about ‘the end of’ Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma’s careers

Kevin Pietersen talks about ‘the end of’ Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma’s careers

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has predicted that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma no longer be part of the Indian cricket team in the near future.

Speaking before the first ODI between India and England at Nagpur, he said, “I mentioned in my media interaction yesterday that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are human—they can fail too.”

“These two are modern-day greats, but the time will come when there will be no Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma in the Indian team. That will be a sad day for Indian cricket, so fans should enjoy their presence in the game while it lasts,” Pietersen added.

Earlier, former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh also commented on Kohli and Rohit’s future, stating, “You can never be bigger than the game. Not Sir Vivian Richards, not even Sir Don Bradman—no player has ever been bigger than cricket, and no one ever will be.”

The batsmen, two of India’s biggest cricketing superstars, who were once the backbone of the team, may not have much time left in international cricket. Both players are struggling with form and are also nearing the latter stages of their careers—Kohli is now 36, while Rohit is 37.

Recent poor performances have led many cricket experts and fans to speculate that their retirement may not be far away.

Rohit managed to score only two runs in the first ODI against England on Thursday, while Kohli missed the game due to fitness concerns.

  • VIDEO: Here’s what happened when Shahzad Akbar reached Pakistan High Commission for NAB inquiry

VIDEO: Here’s what happened when Shahzad Akbar reached Pakistan High Commission for NAB inquiry

Former prime minister (PM) Imran Khan’s special assistant on accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar on Thursday visited the Pakistan High Commission (PHC) in London’s Knightsbridge to seek permission for attending the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) inquiries against him via video link.

The PHC, however, reportedly refused to let him in.

Speaking to journalist Murtaza Ali Shah outside the high commission, Akbar alleged that the accountability watchdog was intentionally preventing him from appearing in the multiple investigations against him.

“There is a clear, known and established political motivation behind these cases against me, yet I am offering to join the investigation via video link from the United Kingdom [UK]. I have offered to do so from the Pakistan High Commission in London as well, but there has been no response. Instead, I was responded to with media trials. There is a clear threat to my life and liberty,” the former head of the Asset Recovery Unit (ARU) said.

Akbar said he had filed the writ petition with the Islamabad High Court regarding the Al-Qadir Trust case a long time ago and NAB was adamant on an in-person inquiry rather than video link. “I was summoned again in person on February 6, 2025, in Islamabad as another attempt to harass me. I have come here to stress again that I am available for a video-link interview and happy to provide any legally sought documents.”

The ex-ARU head maintained that there was precedent available where several people appeared before probe teams via video-link. “In the Memogate scandal, Hussain Haqqani [former Pakistan ambassador to the US] and Mansoor Ijaz appeared from London via video link to present their defence. I want the same facility,” he said.

On being asked about his government denying requests by Mian Saleem Raza and Nasir Butt to appear before NAB in Judge Arshad Malik’s video case via video link, Akbar said the decisions back then were made “elsewhere”.

“I have sympathy for Mian Saleem Raza and Nasir Mahmood. The difference is they didn’t name who was behind the cases against them… I and many others in PTI have named the people behind these cases,” he said, noting that “those filing cases against PML-N back then were now doing the same against the PTI”.

“There is a lesson in it for the politicians to come together and work towards the supremacy of Pakistan’s Constitution,” he said.

  • Nurse uses glue instead of stitches on child’s wounds

Nurse uses glue instead of stitches on child’s wounds

A nurse in the Indian state of Karnataka has been suspended after she used super glue (Fevikwik) on a child’s wound to put the skin back in its place.

Fevikwik is a cyanoacrylate adhesive. The same product is sold in Pakistan under the brand name Elfy. It is a bonding agent used to join multiple surfaces including ceramics, plastics and even wood. It is also used in multiple industries. The adhesive is not to be used on human skin.

On January 14, seven-year-old Gurukishan Appanna was brought to the Adoor Primary Health Center with a deep wound on his cheek. The parents filmed staff nurse Jyoti using glue to close the wound, telling them that she had done this many times to avoid scarring the face.

Once the parents submitted the video to the authorities, Jyoti was transferred to another institute. On Wednesday this week, she was finally suspended by authorities after discussions held during a meeting at the office of the state’s Chief Secretary.

A press release issued by state authorities has said that the child is in good health. However, he will continue to be monitored for adverse reactions to the super glue.

  • ‘My jewellery represents courage’; Angeline Malik debuts jewellery line amid cancer battle

‘My jewellery represents courage’; Angeline Malik debuts jewellery line amid cancer battle

Director and actor Angeline Malik has started a jewellery brand called Angelines after revealing that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. To show support for other women battling cancer, she decided to shave her head.

Angeline has said in a statement that her jewellery line aims to celebrate resilience and support for women facing chemotherapy. She wants to help them feel confident and strong.

Through her designs, Malik hopes to inspire women to see their beauty beyond societal norms. She wants to change the idea that beauty is about hair or physical appearance. Instead, she believes beauty is about inner strength.

“I want to use my struggle and journey against cancer as a platform to challenge traditional notions of beauty. Shaving my head and sharing this experience symbolises my strength and the strength of every woman facing chemotherapy,” Malik said.

“It is a celebration of the beauty beyond our hair, beyond our outer appearance, and a movement to empower women to embrace their resilience. For too long, beauty has been tied to external appearances. I want to celebrate the inner strength and dignity of women who face unimaginable battles. Sharing my battle against cancer is my way of standing in solidarity with them, proving that beauty is about confidence, courage, and the stories we carry.”

Malik’s jewellery mostly consists of handmade copper pieces. The designs show the chains and shackles that many women are tied down by, representing courage, strength, and sacrifices.

“These chains, rather than symbolizing burdens, should be worn as ornaments of pride, embodying the essence of the powerful woman you are,” Malik wrote.

Actors Saba Hamid and Samina Ahmed wore Malik’s new jewellery in a picture posted to Hamid’s Instagram account. “With my wonderful brave friends,” Hamid captioned the photograph.

  • Fakhar Zaman reveals why he was out of national squad

Fakhar Zaman reveals why he was out of national squad

Pakistan’s aggressive opening batter Fakhar Zaman has opened up about his illness, time away from the team, and preparations for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

Speaking on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Podcast with Salman Butt on Friday, Fakhar revealed that he was not injured but had fallen ill. “I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, which caused me to lose 10 kilograms and weakened my muscles,” he said.

“There was no other reason. I am now fully fit. The first four to five domestic matches were tough, and I felt like I had forgotten how to play. But gradually, I improved and performed well. Now, I am completely healthy,” he added.

Fakhar became excited while discussing the upcoming Champions Trophy. “It’s a major event, and we are thrilled because it’s happening in Pakistan,” he said.

When asked about Babar Azam’s batting order change and his potential role as an opener, Fakhar backed his captain. “For a batter of Babar Azam’s class, position doesn’t matter. I believe he will do well as an opener and make things easier for me,” he remarked.

Fakhar also reflected on his breakthrough in the 2017 Champions Trophy. “That tournament was the start of my career. I will try to make this edition even more memorable for myself and the team. As for playing against India, I approach that match with the same mindset as I do against any other team,” he concluded.

In October 2024, Babar Azam was dropped from the last two Test matches against England, leading to Fakhar tweeting in his favour.

Fakhar wrote on X: “It’s concerning to hear suggestions about dropping Babar Azam. India didn’t bench Virat Kohli during his rough stretch between 2020 and 2023, when he averaged 19.33, 28.21, and 26.50, respectively.”

“If we are considering sidelining our premier batsman, arguably the best Pakistan has ever produced, it could send a deeply negative message across the team. There is still time to avoid pressing the panic button; we should focus on safeguarding our key players rather than undermining them,” he wrote.

After his tweet, PCB issued him a show-cause notice.

He responded to the notice, saying, ‘I am under the PCB, and I must accept the decisions; writing about Babar Azam was not meant to criticize or hurt anyone. PCB’s central contract is of the opinion; I spoke as a fellow player; my only aim was for Babar Azam to have a chance in difficult times. PCB is our institution; we will continue to respect it.’

Later, he was dropped from the South Africa and Australia tour.

It merits mention that he has also not been included in the PCB central contract for 2024-25.

  • Aima Baig, Arif Lohar set to perform at Gaddafi Stadium’s grand opening

Aima Baig, Arif Lohar set to perform at Gaddafi Stadium’s grand opening

Gaddafi Stadium is all set to come alive with music as top Pakistani artists, including Aima Baig, Ali Zafar, and Arif Lohar, gear up to perform at its grand opening.

In a video shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Instagram, Aima Baig invited fans to the event saying, “Hi everyone, my name is Aima Baig, and tomorrow is the opening of new Gaddafi Stadium. I will be performing along with some amazing artists. Don’t miss out.”

The event will take place on February 07, 2025, while entry to the event is completely free for fans.

Punjabi folk singer Arif Lohar, while announcing his participation, said “Asalam O Alaikum, I am your Arif Lohar, and I am coming to perform at Gaddafi Stadium on February 07, 2025.”

Earlier, according to reports, the PCB had spent PKR 12 billion on upgrading the stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.

The stadiums have been revamped to meet international standards, with improvements being tested during a tri-series featuring Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand.

Despite ongoing work, PCB officials are confident the renovations will be complete by the end of January.

A new five-story building at NSK includes modern facilities like anti-corruption units, physio rooms, and updated dressing rooms. Additional upgrades include better seating, new washrooms, a pedestrian bridge, digital scoreboards, and advanced LED floodlights.

Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore has undergone similar improvements, ensuring a better experience for players and fans. These changes mark a big step in improving cricket infrastructure in Pakistan ahead of the mega event.

According to media reports, the ceremony will take place on February 16 at Hazoori Bagh, Lahore. The PCB has already prepared the schedule, and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has approved all the plans.

The renovation work at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, is almost complete. The stadium’s opening ceremony is expected on February 7, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as the chief guest. Mohsin Naqvi has officially invited him to the event, which may also include a laser show.

A new building has been constructed at National Stadium, Karachi, and its opening ceremony is scheduled for February 11. President Asif Ali Zardari is expected to attend as the chief guest.

The ICC Champions Trophy will kick off on February 19 in Karachi, with Pakistan facing New Zealand in the opening match.

India’s matches will be played at a neutral venue, but if India doesn’t make it to the final, the final will be held at Gaddafi Stadium in  Lahore.

Bilawal attends National Prayer Breakfast with Donald Trump, gives concluding speech

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party and former Foreign Minister of Pakistan, has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to share photos of him attending the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC where President of the United States Donald J. Trump gave a speech.

In the photos Bilawal posted, he can be seen sitting up front, near the podium when Trump was delivering his talk. The PPP head also shared a clip from a speech he gave at the conclusion of the event.

“I was under a lot of pressure that I had to speak at the conclusion ceremony of the National Prayer Breakfast. And as I sat there, I thought, how am I going to top Donald J. Trump, President of the United States surprising us at breakfast. And now its even more difficult because how am I going to top my mother and your friend, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, who sort of summed up what I was going to say,” he said pointing at the screen where Benazir Bhutto’s speech from a past National Prayer Breakfast had just been played, as the room erupted with laughter.

In the short speech that followed, he talked about Prophet Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him) and his importance in Islam. “Jesus doesn’t just belong to Christians,” he stated as the room again burst into applause. “Every single Muslim you know believes in Jesus. They are a follower of Jesus,” he pointed out.

In his speech that lasted about 30 minutes, Trump told the crowd, “I’m a believer – like you’re a believer – and we want to have a believer in this position.”

He eluded to the shooting attempt on his life while campaigning in 2024. “I shouldn’t be here,” Trump said, recounting the day in Pennsylvania last summer when the bullet from a would-be assassin took a piece of his ear. “It was God that saved me.”

The bipartisan National Prayer Breakfast has been split into two events since 2023. A separate smaller event on Capitol Hill that is mostly attended by members of Congress and other government officials is held in addition to the main event.

Trump attended the Capitol Hill breakfast in addition to the main event, which was hosted at the Washington Hilton.
