International Figures Express Support to Trump’s White House Comeback

Donald Trump was sworn in for a remarkable second presidential term on Monday. He vowed to rapidly execute orders on immigration reform and US culture even as he rests on the shoulders of the extraordinary comeback he made in the White House.

The 47th president of the US, Trump, placed his left hand on his Bible while his right hand was raised. He solemnly took the oath of presidency beneath the massive dome of the US Capitol. Kamala Harris and former presidents were thanked before Trump began his speech with the promise that America’s golden age would start right at that moment.

Global Leaders React to His White House Comeback

Global leaders, including the heads of NATO and the European Union, congratulated U.S. President Donald Trump on his return to the White House.

Mark Rutte, the secretary general of NATO, noted that ‘with Trump winning the elections, there will certainly be an increase in defence spending and production.’ This likely refers to Trump’s expectation that European nations would shoulder more of their self-defence burden.

He also remarked on how achieving peace through strength was possible: ‘I wish to extend my warm congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his inauguration as 47th President of the USA and to @JDVance as Vice President.’ This was done while Trump’s somewhat controversial claims about NATO have emerged.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer remarked: “For centuries, the relations between our two nations have been a path of partnership, cooperation, and work of goodwill. Together, we have defended the world from tyranny and worked at establishing a sound basis for both of our nations’ collective security and prosperity.”

“With the warm history of affection and relations that President Trump has maintained with the U.K., I am sure the bond will keep strengthening,” he added.

“The EU is looking forward to cooperating closely with you to work on global challenges ahead. Together, our societies can prosper more and build their common security. This is the abiding strength of the transatlantic partnership.”

Erdogan issued a statement: “We will do whatever is necessary to end the war between Russia and Ukraine since Mr. Trump repetitively expressed his intention to become the solution to that.”

Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World tour is making its way across India, with upcoming performances in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26. Fans are eagerly awaiting the band’s next shows.

Earlier, british rock band Coldplay’s upcoming tour of India has triggered a police investigation and dismayed fans after scalpers bought up cheap tickets to resell online for more than $1,000 apiece.

Thousands of music fans tried and failed to buy tickets for three concerts scheduled in financial hub Mumbai next January, sold by popular Indian online ticket portal BookMyShow.

All three shows sold out in minutes, and those who missed out were infuriated when they saw $70 (6,000-rupee) tickets appear on resale websites at vastly inflated prices.

“The tickets are being sold at 10 times, 20 times, 30 times the price that is being sold on the website itself,” student Anna Abraham, 19, told AFP.

“I wouldn’t feel good about it myself if I knew that I paid for something 30 times more than what I could have paid for.”

Local media reports said BookMyShow’s chief operating officer was questioned by police Monday after a complaint brought by Mumbai lawyer Amit Vyas, who claimed the vendor was working with “black marketeers” to make an extra windfall on ticket sales.

“I checked with nearly 100 people who I know are regulars at concerts, none of them had gotten a ticket,” Vyas said, according to the Indian Express newspaper.

  • ‘Won’t get involved in political matters,’ army chief quoted telling Barrister Gohar

‘Won’t get involved in political matters,’ army chief quoted telling Barrister Gohar

Senior journalist Ansar Abbasi has claimed that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, during his meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership, told party chairman Barrister Gohar that he won’t get involved in political issues.

According to the journalist, the army chief heard Gohar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur out, but refused to be involved in political matters.

The details have emerged as Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif was briefed on the details of the “unscheduled” meeting between the PTI and Gen Munir. After discussing law-and-order meeting with different political leaders, reports quoted sources as saying, the army chief was approached by CM Gandapur for an exclusive meeting.

The premier was told that the army chief obliged them but when the PTI leaders talked about issues facing the PTI, they were told to take up political matters with the government. The COAS also told them that he would not get involved in such matters.

Last Thursday, PTI chief Gohar, after denying earlier reports, finally confirmed that he had called on the army chief along with Gandapur. He admitted to this only after PTI founder Imran Khan told media persons that the two party leaders had met Gen Munir during the latter’s recent visit to Peshawar.

Khan added that Gohar presented all matters and demands of the party directly to the army chief. Gohar, however, later said that security issues were discussed in the meeting without explaining how a security meeting between the army chief and provincial chief executive concerned him.

The PTI founder had termed direct negotiations with the establishment a positive step towards resolving the ongoing issues.

While an official confirmation of the exact agenda of the sudden meeting remains under wraps, it has been followed by the government’s refusal to accept the PTI’s primary demand for negotiations to continue.

Government’s negotiation committee spokesperson Senator Irfan Siddiqui has also disapproved of the PTI’s meeting with top military leadership. “Negotiations cannot be conducted simultaneously through multiple channels,” he said.

However, the meeting itself was not the reason for the government’s refusal to accept PTI’s demand for the formation of a judicial commission to probe May 9. The government has raised objections, saying that the matter was sub-judice.

A judicial commission can only be formed in cases that are not pending before a court, reports quoted government sources as saying. They added that in case of May 9, several cases pertaining to the violence were being heard by different courts, whereas some accused had also been committed by military courts.
