Mohsin Naqvi has assured family of transferring Imran Khan to Shifa hospital: Aleema Khan

Mohsin Naqvi has assured the family of PTI founder Imran Khan that he will be shifted to Shifa Hospital, Aleema Khan has said.

Speaking to the media, Aleema Khan stated that the family was informed that Naqvi had given a guarantee regarding the transfer. She said the assurance came after discussions with authorities over Khan’s medical examination.

According to her, the family had requested that the PTI founder be moved to Shifa Hospital, stating that his medical records are available with his personal doctors.

She said Ayaz Sadiq had initially offered to send two doctors to the jail. Later, the family was told that a conference call was held with Mohsin Naqvi, during which he assured them of the transfer.

Aleema Khan said the medical report prepared by a government doctor was objected to by the family, stating that it does not reflect his condition. She also questioned why the PTI founder was being kept in solitary confinement.

She demanded that a complete medical examination be conducted in the presence of family members and personal doctors and emphasised that the family will not rely on official statements until he is shifted to hospital and assessed by his own physicians.

Imran’s other sister Uzma Khan said that the family will only be satisfied once doctors they trust are involved. She said that the medical report does not mention any diagnosed illness and added that treatment cannot begin without identifying the cause.

Aleema Khan rejects govt doctors, demands personal physicians for Imran Khan

Aleema Khan, the sister of jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has said she does not trust government doctors or institutional medical staff for her brother’s treatment, demanding that he be examined by his personal physicians.

Speaking to media persons, Aleema said the names of doctors submitted by the family had not been permitted to see Khan, and the family had requested medical care be conducted in the presence of their personal doctor but authorities had not agreed to it.

She further said that for several days the family had been told that Imran Khan would be shifted to a hospital, but no such step had been taken so far. According to her, assurances regarding medical arrangements had repeatedly been given without any visible outcome.

Referring to a medical report related to Khan’s condition, she said the document failed to address the concerns raised. She added that earlier they were informed a detailed report would be issued, but the report that emerged was a joke and did not meet that expectation.

Aleema also questioned the lack of transparency surrounding the medical care being provided. She said that if the authorities believed Khan had received proper treatment, there was no reason to withhold details from the public or the family.

“If they believe the PTI founder has been properly treated, then why are they hiding it?” she asked.

Calling for public support, Aleema urged people to raise their voices and apply pressure for what she described as proper medical treatment.

Her statements came after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the delay in Imran Khan’s eye examination was due to political handling of the matter by Aleema Khan. Naqvi added that the doctors who examined Imran Khan had conducted all necessary tests and later met with PTI leaders and the medical team, after which all parties expressed satisfaction.

He said he had asked whether any further tests were required and was told that all possible examinations had already been conducted. Naqvi criticized the politicization of the issue, noting that while the family claimed to be close, they had used the matter to make political points.

He also said the government did not intend to politicize Imran Khan’s health and described certain requests by the opposition as inappropriate and potentially misleading.

  • Non-bailable warrants issued for Aleema Khan, KP CM Afridi

Non-bailable warrants issued for Aleema Khan, KP CM Afridi

Courts in the twin cities on Tuesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants in two separate cases involving senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) figures, including Aleema Khanum, sister of party founder Imran Khan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan in connection with a PTI protest case stemming from the November 26 demonstrations. The case was registered at Sadiqabad police station.

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah ruled that there was no legal justification for Ms Khan’s absence from court proceedings, noting that she neither appeared before the court nor sought an exemption. Her counsel, Faisal Malik, was also absent, prompting the court to proceed with the hearing in their absence.

The court accepted Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah’s request to include National Counter Cyber Crime Investigation (NCCI) official Salman Niaz as a prosecution witness and adjourned the hearing until Wednesday (today).

Earlier, the same court dismissed Ms Khan’s plea seeking the removal of terrorism charges and rejected her challenge to the court’s jurisdiction under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). Judge Shah ruled that the case fell within the ambit of the ATA, rejecting the defence’s argument that protest-related cases should not be tried in an anti-terrorism court.

According to the prosecution, Ms Khan relayed a message from her brother Imran Khan from Adiala Jail, allegedly calling for nationwide protests that later turned violent.

Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah argued that the Faizabad protest resulted in injuries to police personnel and that gunfire struck a police van, actions which, he said, met the legal threshold for terrorism.

The prosecution also accused the defence of employing delaying tactics, including repeated adjournment requests citing a lawyers’ strike.

During earlier proceedings, the court ordered the unfreezing of bank accounts belonging to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust and Namal University, clarifying that prosecutors had never sought their freezing.

The November 26 protests saw PTI supporters march towards Islamabad despite government restrictions, leading to clashes with security personnel in the Red Zone.

Following the unrest, multiple cases were registered under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at Taxila, Sadiqabad and Naseerabad police stations. Proceedings in the Sadiqabad case are ongoing at the ATC Rawalpindi.

Separately, an Islamabad court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi in a case related to allegedly misleading statements against state institutions and damage to their reputation.

The case was registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Authority (NCCIA) under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA ), 2016, following allegations that the chief minister made false and defamatory claims against state institutions.

During the hearing, Senior Civil Judge Abbas Shah noted that CM Afridi had once again failed to appear despite repeated summons. The court subsequently ordered his immediate arrest and directed law enforcement authorities to ensure his production before the court. The hearing was adjourned till February 21.

  • Imran Khan’s sisters, PTI leaders booked in terrorism case after protest outside Adiala Jail

Imran Khan’s sisters, PTI leaders booked in terrorism case after protest outside Adiala Jail

The case was filed on Wednesday at the Saddar Bairuni police station after PTI backers and Imran Khan’s family members rallied outside the prison on Tuesday. The sit-in was organized after authorities prevented Khan’s sisters and legal representatives from meeting him, despite a court ruling allowing those visits.

The initial report states that the case involves Sections 7 and 21(i) of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, along with several provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code. Those implicated include Aleema Khan, Dr. Uzma Khan, and Noreen Niazi, as well as PTI leaders Salman Akram Raja, Aliya Hamza, and Qasim Khan. The FIR also includes 35 named suspects and around 400 unnamed individuals.

According to police, the protesters held the sit-in on Kacheri Road near Adiala Jail despite imposed restrictions under Section 144. The FIR, lodged on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Imran, claims that protesters assaulted police officers, vandalized a police vehicle, and threw stones and petrol bombs intending to harm officers. It also asserts that batons were used during the clash and that a fire was ignited on the road.

The FIR indicates that protestors obstructed the road, yelled slogans, and created disturbances for the public. Police officials stated they tried to negotiate with the crowd and requested them to vacate the premises. When instructed to disperse, the protesters reportedly resisted and attacked police personnel. The report notes that approximately 200 individuals managed to escape during the chaos but could be identified later.

Law enforcement said that 14 suspects mentioned in the FIR were apprehended at the site and presented before an anti-terrorism court. The court approved a three-day physical remand, allowing police to continue their investigation. Authorities mentioned that more arrests are anticipated once the remaining suspects are identified.

On Wednesday, police cleared protestors near the Factory Checkpost and outside Adiala Jail. Anti-riot units were summoned, and water cannons were employed to clear the crowd. Police indicated that confrontations erupted when protesters refused to leave.

PTI, however, rejected the police version and condemned the use of force against protesters. In a statement, the party accused the Punjab police of using water cannons containing chemical irritants during the operation, saying women and senior party leaders were present at the sit-in.

The party’s Central Media Department criticised the registration of terrorism charges against protesters and alleged that the use of force was aimed at preventing court-ordered meetings between Imran Khan and his family and lawyers. PTI said Tuesdays were reserved for such meetings under court orders, but Khan’s sisters and legal counsel were again stopped outside the jail.

PTI also alleged that the authorities were acting in violation of Islamabad High Court directives by repeatedly denying access to Khan, calling it a breach of constitutional and legal obligations.

Amnesty International expressed apprehension about the situation, calling on authorities to facilitate Imran Khan’s access to his family and legal representation in accordance with international human rights law. The organization noted that water cannons were deployed to disperse the sit-in in cold weather and mentioned accusations that chemical irritants were mixed with the water.

Court issues bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan

An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi has issued bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan in a case related to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) November 26 protest.

According to reports, judge Amjad Ali Shah heard the case registered at Sadiqabad Police Station against Aleema and ten others on Wednseday. While other accused appeared in court, Aleema Khan did not.

Her lawyers, Faisal Malik and Hasnain Sanbal, submitted a request seeking exemption from appearance, but the court rejected the plea.

During the hearing, prosecutor Zaheer Shah argued that the lawyers had not submitted Aleema’s power of attorney and therefore could not file the exemption request on her behalf.

The court then issued bailable arrest warrants for Aleema and adjourned the hearing till October 11.

  • Aleema Khan, Naeem Panjutha among others booked for assaulting journalist

Aleema Khan, Naeem Panjutha among others booked for assaulting journalist

Incarcerated former premier Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, party lawyer Naeem Panjutha and others were booked on Monday for violence against journalist, Tayyab Baloch outside Adiala Jail.

Complainant Tayyab Baloch said in a First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Rawalpindi Saddar Bairooni Police Station that he was present outside Adiala Jail at around 3:55pm on Monday for reporting with other journalists when Aleema Khan and other people began a media talk after a hearing for the Toshakhana case.

“During this time, a person named Naeem Panjutha called out: ‘Teach him a lesson for questioning Aleema about properties,’” Baloch said, adding that 35-40 people then grabbed him, laid him down and beat him.

“During this time, some unknown person snatched my mobile phone from me and also broke my microphone,” he said, adding that other reporters there who tried to rescue him were also beaten up.

“We barely escaped them after much pleading. The reason is that I had previously asked Aleema Khan about purchasing properties in America as a journalist, which made her uncomfortable,” the FIR read.

The complainant further stated that, driven by his question, Aleema Khan, “through her workers, first posted pictures of me … [and others] on social media and did propaganda against us. Today, as per the pre-arranged plan, they attacked me, beat me up, forcibly snatched my mobile and threatened to kill me, along with breaking my microphone”.

The case was registered under Sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 382 (theft after preparation made causing death, hurt or restraint in order to committing of the theft), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

He requested legal proceedings against Aleema, Panjutha and the other suspects.

Meanwhile, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) posted on Monday, Panjutha dubbed the FIR a “fake case” against him and Aleema Khan.

Decrying the incident, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar took to X on the same day, writing that Baloch was targeted with violence “solely and only because of a difference of opinion, which is unacceptable”.

“Strict action will be taken. When there is no argument, the path of violence is resorted to…I have always stood with journalists, and in this case too, I will give full support,” he vowed.

‘Imran Khan is completely healthy’: Aleema Khan on reports of jailed brother’s health

Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has dismissed claims about her jailed brother’s health at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.

“A report on social media has suggested that Imran Khan is suffering from tinnitus. He [Khan] has for the past one and a half year been saying that he is hearing whistling sounds, and a medical checkup by our doctors has already taken place,” she said while speaking to media outside an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore.

Commenting on Khan’s medical report, she questioned the timing of media reports. “Where did this report come from? Who uploaded the report to social media?” she asked.

“Imran Khan is completely healthy and he stands undeterred,” she said.

Earlier this week, journalist and YouTuber Matiullah Jan claimed that Khan had fallen sick in jail and was suffering from a hearing condition.

Citing Imran Khan’s medical records, senior journalist Jan, in his vlog on YouTube, claimed that on August 12, an ENT panel had recommended “supportive management” for Khan in jail, underscoring the seriousness of the condition.

While the journalist didn’t name the condition, it merits a mention that Khan was in February this year reportedly diagnosed with tinnitus – a hearing problem in which the patient feels ringing, buzzing or roaring in the ear despite the absence of any external sound.

  • ‘Can a son not walk his mother?’: PTI rubbishes govt claim regarding Imran Khan’s nephew

‘Can a son not walk his mother?’: PTI rubbishes govt claim regarding Imran Khan’s nephew

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has alleged that the Punjab government misused a video to falsely link incarcerated former Prime Minister’s nephew, Shahrez Khan, to the May 9, 2023 riots.

According to PTI, the clip, aired on PTV News and shared on its X account, does not show the attack on the Lahore corps commander’s residence. The party claims that it is actually from a party event in Kahna on September 21, 2024, featuring Shahrez with his mother Aleema Khan and leaders Khadija Shah and Shayan Bashir.

PTI leader Shayan Bashir said the party had official permission for the Kahna event and that Shahrez was only driving his mother there because no driver was available. He added that police had restricted vehicle access, forcing participants to walk. Bashir also confirmed Shahrez’s arrest after meeting him at a Lahore Cantt police station.

Sources privy to inside information also confirmed to The Current that Shahrez had only walked his mother to the jalsa venue, retierating that he had no political affiliations.

“How does walking his mother make him political? Shahrez has never been interested, or even wants to be, in politics but can a son not walk his mother to where she needs to go?” they questioned.

On August 21, officers in plainclothes reportedly picked up Shahrez from Aleema Khan’s Canal Road home while he was preparing to leave for an athletics championship. The next day, his younger brother Shershah was detained outside the house. Both remain in police custody.

Earlier, Lahore police stated that Shahrez had been arrested in connection with the May 9 riots, claiming his name was added to the Jinnah House case in September 2023 through supplementary statements. PTI’s Secretary General Salman Akram Raja rejected the claim, saying Shahrez was not involved in politics. He alleged that men without warrants forcibly entered the house and took him away.

Aleema Khan’s lawyer, Rana Mudassir, characterised the arrests as abductions, pointing out that neither brother was implicated in any case at the time of their arrests. He indicated that the legal team intended to seek relief from the Lahore High Court.

Family sources also exclusively told The Current that Shahrez was not even in Lahore on the day of the May 9 riots.

  • ‘Traitor in PTI’: Sher Afzal Marwat takes swipe at Aleema Khanum

‘Traitor in PTI’: Sher Afzal Marwat takes swipe at Aleema Khanum

Expelled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat has levelled serious allegations against Aleema Khanum, sister of jailed former premier Imran Khan, alleging that she has an authoritarian approach within the party.

“If there is a traitor in PTI, then no one is a bigger traitor than Aleema Khanum,” he said sternly while appearing on a private media outlet’s political talk show on Tuesday.

Speaking to media outside Adiala Jail Rawalpindi earlier on the same day, Aleema Khanum stated that ever since her brother expelled Marwat from the party, the latter had been attacking Imran Khan’s family.

Firebrand Marwat claimed that Aleema Khanum’s son Sher Shah was seen in a video handing over a military uniform pant to Hassaan Khan Niazi, son of Imran Khan’s other sister Noreen Khanum, who then waved it in the air, hurling derogatory remarks.

Hassaan was convicted by military courts for his roles in violent attacks on military installations during the nationwide riots on May 9, 2023, and was awarded 10 ten-year imprisonment.

Marwat said that Sher Shah was nominated in a case related to the attack on the Core Commander’s house in Lahore. Marwat alleged that after settling matters with an “army officer,” Aleema Khan’s son “fled to London.”

Additionally, Marwat revealed that on April 4, 2024, Imran Khan’s sister invited him to her home for a meal, where he was asked about defending Imran Khan’s spouse Bushra Bibi. “Are you a spokesperson of Bushra Bibi,” he quoted Aleema Khanum as having said.

Marwat stated that when he told Aleema that he had defended her too, she smirked. “I don’t need you to defend me. Just decide whether you are with me or Bushra Bibi,” she allegedly said.

Marwat said that he replied, “I am not with anyone but with Imran Khan,” adding that he left her house without eating, and Zain Qureshi, former PTI leader, and others were witnesses to the exchange.

“On April 11, Imran Khan removed me from the [PTI] focal person and spokesperson. And until today, I am being sidelined from the party,” he said.

Marwat also confirmed the News aired by ARY News last week about an alleged internal rift within the party regarding the distribution of Senate election tickets in KP.

The controversy stemmed from reported differences between KP CM Gandapur, Aleema Khanum, and KP Adviser on Information Barrister Saif over the distribution of Senate tickets.

ARY reported that Gandapur and Aleema Khan wanted to exclude two names from the list, including Mashal Yousafzai, the former special assistant to the KP CM, but Saif stood by Khan’s original picks.

  • ‘Aleema Khan orchestrating abusive campaign against my dead parents’

‘Aleema Khan orchestrating abusive campaign against my dead parents’

Former member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sher Afzal Marwat on Friday levelled a series of allegations against the sister of former premier Imran Khan, Aleema Khan, accusing her of orchestrating a trolling campaign against him and an abusive campaign against his late parents through social media.

“I was nominated in 57 FIRs [First Information Reports], two of my houses were demolished and I endured jail. Yesterday, my dead parents were subjected to an abusive campaign,” Marwat said while appearing on a private media outlet, adding that all this was being done despite all the sacrifices he had made for the party.

He alleged that Aleema was orchestrating the trolling and abusive campaign as “she is the social media boss”.

Claiming that Aleema’s behaviour had always been “bossy” towards party leaders, Marwat said that PTI members also suffered “extremely inhumane treatment” at her hands.

He further claimed that when he complained to the PTI founder about Aleema’s behaviour, Imran, in the presence of 29 party bigwigs, said that “nobody will answer Aleema’s phone as she has nothing to do with party matters”.

“Following the complaint, she openly came against me,” Marwat said, adding since then the PTI social media team as well as supporters like Shahbaz Gill and Imran Riaz Khan had been trolling him.

Recalling an incident of Aleema’s alleged bossy attitude, Marwat said that during Ramzan, she summoned a party meeting at the Central Secretariat. “Barrister Gohar told Aleema that he had to go attend an iftar, to which she said, ‘You can’t even move’.”

Commenting on Aleema recently being barred from visiting her brother, Marwat argued that party Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and Aleema Khan have had the most meetings with Khan. “Just because they refused to meet twice, they act like it’s the end of the world,” he said.

Marwat had earlier this month also made headlines for claiming that PTI could not stage protests as it had been weakened politically, publicly and ideologically since last April.

“We wasted last year, which was the year of protests and practical work. From April of last year to this April, PTI has been weakened ideologically, politically and publicly. We are not in a position to stage a protest,” he had said.

Questioning what he called the “silence of PTI leaders” after giving hope to people that a protest would be staged right after Eid, Marwat said the PTI knew there was nobody to lead the protest.
