National leadership vows decisive response as ‘Operation Ghazab lil-Haq’ targets Afghan Taliban

Pakistan’s leadership has issued a unified and stern warning to the Afghan Taliban regime following a night of intense border escalations, confirming that “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq” is currently underway to neutralize threats to national sovereignty.

President Asif Ali Zardari described the response of the armed forces to the Afghan Taliban’s aggression as “comprehensive and decisive,” making it clear that Pakistan will make no compromise on peace and regional integrity.

“Those who consider peace a weakness should be prepared for a strong response, and no enemy will be beyond reach,” the President stated.

He added that the Pakistani nation and armed forces stand united like a “fortified wall” for the defense of the country.

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif affirmed that the nation remains fully prepared to safeguard its security.

In an official statement from the PM’s Office, the Prime Minister noted that under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the forces are performing their duties with “utmost national dedication.”

The statement emphasized: “The Pakistan Armed Forces are committed to ensuring that the peace and security of the country are never compromised. Our forces possess the full capability to thwart any aggressive designs.”

The PM further stressed that while Pakistan has always promoted peace, any act of aggression will be met with a “decisive response.”

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the Afghan Taliban made a “serious mistake” and will face “serious consequences.”

He strongly condemned the targeting of civilian populations, noting that the enemy attempted to target innocent civilians under the cover of darkness.

Adding to the provincial response, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori said that the Afghan Taliban regime should “come to its senses,” warning they could be wiped off the face of the earth.

He noted that the air force and ground forces have destroyed enemy hideouts, stating, “Afghanistan started the war and Pakistan will end it.”

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Faisal Karim Kundi highlighted the international dimension, stating the United States must consider that the weapons it left behind are being used against Pakistan.

Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq condemned the infiltration from Afghanistan, labeling the attacks on Pakistani posts under the cover of darkness as “shameful and cowardly acts.”

Sadiq stated that Afghanistan has become “India’s proxy” and is destabilizing regional peace. “

The diplomatic and political condemnations follow a night of heavy military engagement.

The escalation began around 6:00 PM Thursday with unprovoked firing from Afghanistan across multiple areas, including Chitral, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, and Bajaur.

The initial attack resulted in two Pakistani security personnel being martyred and three getting injured.

In response, “Operation Ghazab lil-Hag”, translated as “Righteous Fury” was officially announced.

The Pakistan Air Force launched strikes targeting military installations in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia. Official figures state that 133 Afghan Taliban personnel were killed and more than 200 injured.

The strikes successfully destroyed 27 Afghan posts, two brigade headquarters in Kabul, one corps headquarters and one brigade headquarters in Kandahar, one corps headquarters in Paktia, and multiple ammunition depots and logistics bases.

Operations are continuing, and all armed forces and paramilitary units remain on high alert.

President Zardari jumps in to ease PML-N-PPP coalition rift: report

President Asif Ali Zardari has reportedly intervened to ease the growing rift between the Sindh and Punjab governments and summoned Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to Karachi for urgent consultations.

The development comes as tensions between coalition partners Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) intensify following heated exchanges over Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz’s public remarks.

The two main ruling parties in Centre, have been at odds over flood relief, water resources and the performance of their respective provincial governments. PPP lawmakers have demanded a formal apology by staging walkouts from the Senate and National Assembly, but the demand has been turned down by PML-N ministers as they retaliated by raising questions on Sindh’s governance record.

Amid a war of words, the president has reportedly held a telephonic conversation with the interior minister to discuss the ongoing tensions.

On Monday, PPP members boycotted parliamentary proceedings in protest against what they described were “regrettable remarks” made by the Punjab CM against their leadership.

Former premier and senior PPP leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf made a point of order, stating that his party would not take part in the proceedings until the government offered a proper explanation for the Punjab chief executive’s remarks.

“Bilawal Bhutto never criticised any PML-N leader, rather, he appreciated the Punjab CM’s governance. We are part of this government for the sake of Pakistan’s federation, not confrontation,” Raja said.

He added that PPP’s tolerance should not be mistaken for weakness, reminding the House that the party had faced much tougher times, including military dictatorships.

Ashraf also criticised the withdrawal of security for the PPP’s parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly, calling it a violation of the spirit of the Charter of Democracy.

“We must not use divisive language or resort to blame games. Respect is more important for us than power,” he added.

Speaking on the floor of the House, PPP parliamentary leader Senator Sherry Rehman voiced concern over what she described as “divisive rhetoric” coming from Punjab towards Sindh and the PPP leadership at a time when the nation was reeling from devastating floods.

“Over 6.5 million Pakistanis have been affected by floods — these are not Punjabis or Sindhis, they are Pakistanis. Instead of focusing on their plight, divisive rhetoric is growing. This is no way to manage a crisis or a coalition,” she said.

Rehman said that the coalition and national unity were being harmed by the ongoing tussle between Punjab and Sindh. She said that the PPP had shown restraint and solidarity, but a red line was crossed when PML-N leaders “played the Punjab card” and criticised Bilawal and Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari.

She also defended Bilawal’s recent remarks, claiming that he had only recommended that the Punjab government identified and compensate flood victims using data from the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

She cited a World Bank report to back up her claim that BISP was among the most successful social protection programmes in the world.

“If an apology is not offered, then don’t take our support for granted. The PPP remains the largest party in the Senate,” she warned before leading her party’s walkout.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar responded to her comments in a conciliatory tone, saying that President Zardari has previously acknowledged the matter and taken action to comply with his constitutional obligations.

“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif are both proponents of reconciliation. The political temperature will come down soon,” Tarar said, adding humorously that the opposition should not celebrate these “ups and downs” in coalition politics.

Case filed against protestors for stopping Aseefa Bhutto Zardari’s convoy

A case has been filed against protestors who stopped the convoy of the First Lady and President Asif Ali Zardari’s youngest daughter near the Jamshoro toll plaza on Thursday.

According to details, the First Information Report (FIR) was registered on May 23 against the protestors for rioting, blocking roads, and interfering in government affairs.

As per Jamshoro Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Zafar Siddiqui, Aseefa was heading to Nawabshah in a convoy when they were stopped near the Jamshoro toll plaza.

The SSP said that protestors also struck vehicles in the convoy with batons, adding that police personnel safely cleared Aseefa’s vehicle within a minute.

A group of people was staging a demonstration against the controversial canal project, which had been postponed indefinitely by the federal government last month, said the police officer.

Following the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) raising objections to the canal project, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed last month that no new canals would be constructed unless a consensus is reached in the Council of Common Interests (CCI).

On April 28, the CCI rejected the federal government’s proposal for the construction of new canals, overturning the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council’s (ECNEC) decision made on February 7.

“Today, Youm-e-Tashakur is being observed across the country to thank Allah Almighty for the magnificent success and victory of Pakistan against the open aggression and provocation of India.”

“During the midnight of May 6 and May 7, India while acting cowardly attacked Pakistan resulting in the martyrdom of innocent Pakistani citizens and we were forced to respond for the sake of these innocent citizens.”

He said the world saw that in just few hours an enemy which was many times bigger came to its knees and the planes which were pride of India turned into ashes and became sign of a bitter lesson.

He continued: “Our Shaheens hammered the enemy and gave it a befitting reply. The brave and professional armed forces of Pakistan effectively and fully responded in the language of the enemy and wrote a golden chapter in the military history and foiled the designs of the enemy.”

He also acknowledged Air Chief Zaheer Babar Sidhu and Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf for their role in securing Pakistan’s frontiers, and appreciated the political leadership of the country for displaying unity.

He expressed gratitude to all political leaders, the parliament, and the opposition and allied parties for their historic solidarity and exemplary solidarity.

We will not hesitate to make any sacrifice for the protection of our homeland. We have successfully faced internal and external terrorism and will eradicate it from the root,” Zardari asserted.
