    PPP wants to talk to PTI while PML-N and JUI-F oppose idea

    Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is reportedly ready to hold talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) have rejected the idea.

    Stressing the importance of resolving conflicting court verdicts promptly and without impinging on the judiciary’s honour and prestige, PPP, in the interest of fair and free elections, called for general elections for all assemblies to be held on the same day.

    JUI-F leader Asad Mahmood, in a statement on Friday, said that no negotiations will take place with Imran Khan and called for imposing Article 6 on him. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on multiple occasions has also rejected the idea of holding talks with the PTI.

    On the contrary, it seems like the former ruling party is ready to talk, albeit only on the matter of elections.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry said that the “ideal” situation to deal with the crisis surrounding Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) elections is for the ruling parties, establishment, and the PTI to hold a meeting together. 

    “The parties will have to sit together and bring a constitutional amendment with consensus to conduct elections at one time,” said Fawad.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Fawad Chaudhry has said in an interview that the party respects Justice Qazi Faez Isa who is set to become the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) later this year.

    In an interview with WE news, he said, “We have a relationship of respect with Justice Faez Isa”, adding that he disapproved the idea of filing a reference against the top judge.

    He said when the current government files a reference against the judiciary, it means they want to put the judges under pressure.

    “The government must allow the judiciary to function independently,” he asserted.

    In 2020, Justice Faez was accused of concealing assets and PTI filed a reference against him. Justice Isa then asked the Supreme Court that a full bench be constituted, a plea that was accepted by then CJP Asif Saeed Khosa and after a months-long trial, a full bench of the apex court dismissed the petition against him.

    Later, Khan himself accepted his mistake of filing a presidential reference against the judge.

    During the interview, Fawad Chaudhry once again said that the former ruling party is ready for talks. He mentioned that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir has also talked about the consensus but as of yet no effort has been made.

    Talking about PM Shehbaz, Chaudhry said that he is running from the elections and is being “non-serious”.

    He claimed that “they [government] want martial law in the country”.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry spoke disparagingly against party president Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

    Fawad Chaudhry said that Elahi is not a public favourite, rather he is someone who does politics with the powerful.

    Fawad further said that every party has a ‘handi’ [cooked dish] in which different spices are added, and he [Pervaiz Elahi] is also an important spice.

    It is pertinent to mention here that the former Chief Minister of Punjab, Elahi, has recently parted ways with Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and joined PTI.

    The rift between Elahi and Chaudhry seems to continue as in the past the party president had spoken in favour of Fawad’s arrest and later apologised for his statement.

    ‘Violation of constitution’: PTI to move SC against election postponement

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry has confirmed that his party will challenge the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to postpone general elections in Punjab from April 30 to October 8 in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

    Addressing a joint press conference on Thursday, Chaudhry, along with PTI Secretary General Asad Umar, announced that they are moving the top court against the ECP for “breaching the Constitution”.

    “It is your duty to save the Constitution,” Chaudhry appealed to the judges of the top court, adding that the joint sitting of parliament convened on Wednesday was aimed at an “attack on the Supreme Court”.

    “Judges are being blackmailed and pressurised,” Chaudhry claimed. He also said that the country demands that Article 6 should be applied on five members of the electoral watchdog.  

    PTI Chairman Imran Khan condemned ECP’s move to postpone the election in Punjab, as the party announced to move the Supreme Court against “violation of the Constitution”.

    It is pertinent to mention here that electoral watchdog postponed the elections in view of the recent spate of terrorist attacks in various parts of the country.

    The order said that the interior ministry conveyed to the ECP that the deployment of civil and armed forces would not be possible due to the “spike in incidents of terrorism across the country” and threat alerts from intelligence agencies.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has agreed to sit with rival political parties for “greater national consensus” on elections.

    To try and defuse political tensions in the country, a delegation of civil society members called on the former prime minister on Tuesday evening. Calling themselves “mediators”, the group convinced Khan to agree to talks.

    Speaking about the matter, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said, “The civil society has spoken to Imran Khan and he has agreed to be part of the multi-party conference (MPC) to develop a consensus on the elections date and the process that leads to polls.”

    Speaking with Dawn, an individual who was part of the meeting said, “The civil society initiative and its acceptance by Imran Khan has come after some of the [party] leaders realised that the current confrontational strategy had the former ruling party in a bind.”

     “We are ready to talk to everyone for elections. We are peaceful people, with only one demand: hold elections,” said Pervaiz Khattak, former defence minister.

    The Pakistan Bar Council has agreed to host the MPC if “major political parties respond to this call”.

    Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif, in a series of tweets, has lashed out at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, slamming his criticism of the establishment and current Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir.

    Calling out Khan, Shehbaz Sharif wrote, “PTI’s disgusting smear campaign against COAS Munir at the behest of Imran Niazi is deserving of the strongest condemnation”, adding that “Khan is going to the extent of damaging the country and undermining our armed forces and their leadership.”

    In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Shehbaz strongly condemned the “vile campaign” against the Pakistan army and COAS Munir and called on overseas Pakistanis to raise their voice against it.

    Referring to the COAS as the “first army chief to be appointed on merit in Pakistan”, Shehbaz Sharif stressed that such a campaign could only be the agenda of the enemies of the country.

    He said that “toxic politics” was being spread through overseas Pakistanis.

    The premier called on patriotic Pakistanis living abroad to raise their voices against the “foreign-funded campaign” and not become a part of such conspiracies.

    In response, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said the statement is only to create distance between the people and the army so “PDM can continue looting”.

    On the behalf of the party, he clarfied that the party wishes well to the army chief.

    A day earlier, hundreds of Pakistanis Americans gathered outside the White House, in the United States (US) to demand an end to the government’s actions against Imran.

    During the demonstration, one of the protesters said that the “establishment must realise its mistake”.

    On March 3, the PTI chief said that he is ready to hold talks with the COAS for the sake of the country, claiming that the army chief considers Imran his enemy.

    The Punjab Police on Saturday raided the house of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan shortly after he left for Islamabad to appear before a court in the Toshkhana case.

    Now, the police has left the area and the operation is reportedly over.

    According to media reports, several things have been discovered by the police at Khan’s residence.

    Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah claimed that police found 16 rifles, arms, bombs and a bomb-making factory in Zaman Park.

    He said that Inspector General (IG) will bring all proofs before the nation.

    In a video, which is being shared on Twitter, police can be seen picking up sanitary pads.

    Moreover, the bottles that were used to make petrol bombs have been found along with marbles, slingshots, five kalashnikovs and bullets, reports Geo News.

    Reacting to this news, PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry took a jibe at the police and said that “Cannon, tank shells, anti-aircraft and cocaine, and petrol bombs were recovered from Imran Khan’s residence. But Imran Khan took tanks and cannons with him.”

    To refute the claims made by the government, he in another tweet claimed “that the police has taken food and drinks from the fridge and not even left the biscuits.”

    According to him, a hundred thousand watches have been also taken from the pockets of the employees.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Fawad Chaudhry has claimed that party chairman Imran Khan is open to negotiating with the incumbent government.

    He said that Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Azam Tarar had stressed on holding talks and PTI welcomes these developments.

    “I hope Shehbaz Sharif will invite PTI for talks on the elections schedule. However, we have one proviso: we will not discuss their corruption cases and those have to be out of talks,” said Chaudhry.

    Moreover, Pakistan Bar Council urged all the political parties to set aside their differences and talk in order to solve the disputes which have plunged the country into a constitutional crisis.

    The bar council said that “they are “ready to call/arrange All Parties Conference (APC) and invite all the central leadership of parliamentary parties to reconcile their disputes through dialogue and to hold free, fair and transparent elections to all Assemblies on a mutually agress timeframe.”

    The bar council stressed that the reconciliation process should be held “for the sake of the country as it cannot afford to further linger on prevailing tensions.”

    Last month, in the wake of rising terrorist attacks, PM Shehbaz Sharif called for all parties conference and invited PTI chief Imran Khan as well. However, at the time Khan refused to take part in it.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday accused Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz of retaining a watch from Toshakhana and said that she should be summoned by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

    He also claimed that this matter should be investigated because “a private citizen got a 2 crore worth watch for 10 lac.”

    Reacting to this, Maryam tagged her Political Secretary Zeeshan Malik to report Fawad for “propagating lies”.

    On Monday, Fawad took to Twitter to share that Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has taken notice of his accusation within a few hours of Maryam’s tweet and pointed out that Supreme Court is quiet when the rights of citizens are suspended in the country.

    In the notice attached with the tweet, the FIA purportedly had asked Fawad to appear in person on Friday (March 17). The tweet was later deleted.

    The Cabinet Division made records of the Toshakhana available to the public on Sunday night.

    Aaj News also aired the false claim related to Maryam, but later apologised to the PML-N leader. However, Maryam Nawaz said that she will take legal action against the channel.

    In a tweet, Maryam said she will lodge a complaint with Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) against journalist Amir Mateen for also airing the false claim.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice President Fawad Chaudhry has said on Tuesday that party chief Imran Khan has never requested Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir to meet him.

    Chaudhry also stated in a tweet that President Dr Arif Alvi has never approached Khan with Asim’s alleged suggestion to have a meeting with Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif. He termed the speculations “baseless”.

    A day earlier, Alvi went to Zaman Park to meet his party chairman, who on Sunday dodged getting arrested by the Islamabad police.

    Fawad’s clarification came after senior journalist Kamran Khan claimed on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon that in a meeting with the business community, COAS himself said that he had sent a message to Khan via President Alvi to meet with PM Sharif, however, Khan refused.

    He also said Imran did desire a meeting with the army chief which the latter did not agree too, saying he was not ready to interfere in the political process.

    On March 3, the PTI chief said that he is ready to hold talks with the COAS for the sake of the country, claiming that the army chief considers Imran his enemy.
