    8 soldies martyred in Bannu Cantonment attack; 10 terrorists eliminated

    Pakistan military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a statement today about a foiled terroist attack at Bannu Cantonment in which at least eight Pakistan Army soldiers embraced martyrdom.

    The ISPR said that the terrorists attacked the Bannu Cantonment in the early hours of July 15, but their attempt to enter the facility was effectively thwarted by the security forces personnel.

    Following their failure to enter the premises, the militants rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the cantonment, said the ISPR.

    Ten militants were killed in the attack while the attack was carried out by the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operating from Afghanistan, according to military’s media wing.

    The security situation in Pakistan has gotten grim as eight people – five security officials and three children – lost their lives in three separate terror attacks in Lakki Marwat, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan yesterday.

    In North Waziristan, Captain Muhammad Osama Bin Arshad, 24, who belonged to Rawalpindi district, embraced martyrdom during an intense clash between forces and terrorists.

    The military’s media wing has stated that a sanitisation operation was underway to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir attended the Captain’s funeral on Tuesday.

    Meanwhile, in South Waziristan, three soldiers lost their lives, and 12 others were injured in a militant attack in the district.

    A police officer and his three minor nephews lost their lives in Lakki Marwat district.

    Military dismisses ‘unwarranted criticism’ of Azm-e-Istehkam

    On Friday, the military leadership condemned the “unwarranted criticism” of the newly launched anti-terrorism operation Azm-e-Istehkam, stating that the initiative was being “deliberately misrepresented.”

    According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the statement came after the 265th Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC), which was held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir in the chair.

    The military wing stated that the new operation is aimed at re-invigorating national counter-terrorism efforts in a synchronized manner to eradicate terrorism in Pakistan.

    The statement by ISPR read, “Forum noted with concern the unwarranted criticism by some quarters and deliberate misrepresentation of the vision, only for furthering their vested interests.”

    Security forces have killed nine terrorists, including two “high-value targets” in two separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Inter-Services Public Relations said on Monday.

    The eliminated militants were actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area and were wanted by law enforcement agencies. Weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered from them after the operation.

    Sanitisation operations are being conducted to eliminate any terrorist found in the area as the security forces are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country, the military’s media wing concluded.

    Pakistan has witnessed an increase in terrorist attacks since the interim government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was established in 2021.

    Pakistan has time and again raised its concerns with the interim Taliban government over the use of Afghan soil by various militant organisations including the TTP to launch attacks inside Pakistan.

    Geo News has reported that under the newly announced anti-terror operation Azm-e-Istehkam, security sources have emphasised that there will be no evictions or military operations under the new anti-terror campaign.

    Under Azm-e-Istehkam, a multidimensional strategy would be undertaken to effectively end the menace of terrorism along with effective legislation aimed at ensuring militants are duly punished in the court of law.

    Furthermore, policies would be made to prevent smuggling and drug money from being used to finance terrorism in the country.

    The clarifications came to light after various opposition political parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insfaf (PTI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Awami National Party (ANP) voiced serious concerns over the operation’s consequences in the country.

    Last week, the Prime Minister’s Office also clarified that “no large-scale military operation is being launched” that would cause internal displacement of the local population.

    Seven security officials martyred in Lakki Marwat

    Seven army officials including a captain embraced martyrdom after an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted their vehicle in Shahab Khel area of district Lakki Marwat on Sunday.

    A statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) read, “An improvised explosive device exploded on the vehicle of security forces in Lakki Marwat District.”

    Officials said the vehicle was on its way to the Kaichi Kamar area when it came under attack near Sultankhel village, an area bordering Punjab’s Mianwali district.

    ISPR’s statement revealed that 26-year-old Captain Muhammad Faraz Ilyas, a resident of Kasur, along with 50-year-old Subedar Major Muhammad Nazir from Skardu, 34-year-old Lance Naik Muhammad Anwar from Ghanchi, 36-year-old Lance Naik Hussain Ali from Ghizer, 33-year-old Sepoy Asadullah from Multan, 27-year-old Sepoy Manzoor Hussain from Gilgit, and 31-year-old Sepoy Rashid Mehmood from district Rawalpindi embraced martyrdom.

    Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur strongly condemned the cowardly attack on security officials.

    Army major martyred, three terrorists killed in Balochistan operation

    The military’s media wing reported on Tuesday that a Pakistani army major was martyred and three terrorists were killed during a heavy exchange of fire between terrorists and army officials in the Sambaza area of Zhob district in Balochistan.

    Security officials conducted an Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) in a remote area of Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

    The troops bravely attacked the terrorists’ location and killed three terrorists.

    However, ISPR said in a statement that 33-year-old Major Babar Khan was martyred while fighting fearlessly with the terrorists during the operation.

    The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday that security forces have eliminated 11 terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan and North Waziristan districts.

    During an operation in DI Khan, security officials killed 10 terrorists after a heavy exchange of fire. In North Waziristan, they killed another terrorist in a skirmish.

    “The killed terrorists remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area against security forces as well as innocent civilians. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from them,” said the military’s media wing. 

    The ISPR also said that locals from the area appreciated the action of security forces against terrorism. However, security forces are determined to eliminate terrorism from the country.

    Pakistan Army and Punjab Police announced on Friday that they will work together to investigate the incident where masked men in military clothing attacked cops in Bahawalnagar. The decision came after short video clips of the incident went viral on social media.

    The military’s media wing stated that a recent unfortunate incident happened in Bahawalnagar. The military and police authorities worked together to promptly address and resolve the situation.

    “Despite this, certain factions with vested motives started fanning vitriolic propaganda on social media to create divisions between state institutions and government departments,” the statement read.

    “To ensure a fair and deliberate inquiry, and to determine responsibility for violations of laws and misuse of authority, a joint inquiry comprising security and police officials will be conducted for ascertaining the facts and apportioning responsibility,” it concluded.

    Earlier, on Wednesday, the Punjab Police condemned the “fake propaganda” being spread on social media websites after videos emerged showing cops being assaulted by Pakistan Army officers in Bahawalnagar.

    Security forces confirmed on Friday that an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district resulted in the elimination of five terrorists, as reported by the army’s media wing.

    A press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that a military operation was carried out in the Mullazai area of Tank based on reported terrorist presence.

    During the operation, intense fire exchange took place between the troops and terrorists. As a result, five terrorists were “sent to hell”, the ISPR said.

    It stated that the terrorists who were killed continued to be actively engaged in various terrorist activities, including targeting law enforcement agencies, extortion, and the deliberate killing of innocent civilians.

    “A cache of weapons, ammunition and explosives was also recovered during the operation,” said the military’s media wing.

    The statement additionally mentioned that the sanitisation operation aims to eradicate any remaining terrorists in the area, reflecting the unwavering commitment of Pakistan’s security forces to eliminate the threat of terrorism from the country.

    A day before, General Syed Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), emphasised that the presence of illegal foreigners was having a significant impact on Pakistan’s security and economy.
