The announcement was made by Mahira Khan herself on social media, where she unveiled the official poster of the film, writing: “Is mulaqat ka dil se intezar hai… wo November 28th ko ho ge. Presenting the official poster of Neelofar. In cinemas worldwide — 28th November. Save the date!”

Fans of the iconic Humsafar pair have long awaited their return to the big screen. After sharing the spotlight in The Legend of Maula Jatt and various high-profile campaigns, Neelofar marks their latest collaboration and promises a fresh and emotional cinematic experience.

Mahira steps into a challenging new role, portraying a blind woman in the film. Fawad Khan will bring his signature old-school charm as the male lead, reuniting with Mahira in a love story expected to tug at the heartstrings.

The film’s poster was released last month, five years after the shooting of the film, hinting at its imminent release.

The film is written and directed by Ammar Rasool and produced by Usaf Shariq, with Fawad Khan and Hassaan Khalid serving as executive producers. The movie’s background score has been composed by Zeeshan (Vicky) Haider.

The film features a stellar ensemble cast including Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Madiha Imam, Sarwat Gilani, Atiqa Odho, Behrooz Sabzwari, Gohar Rasheed, Faisal Qureshi, Samiya Mumtaz, Rashid Farooqui, Chand Baral, Seemi Raheel, Adeel Hashmi, Hira Tareen, and Navid Shahzad.

Neelofar has been in the making since 2019. The film faced significant delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which halted production with just 10 days of shooting left. Filming resumed in late 2020 and was completed soon after, with many scenes shot in the picturesque winter streets of Lahore, particularly the historic Walled City.

With the official release date now locked in, excitement is at an all-time high. Fans and fellow celebrities have taken to social media to celebrate the news. Actress Ramsha Khan exclaimed, “Yaaaaaaaas,” while Amina Sheikh, Asim Raza, and Ghana Ali shared their excitement, with Ghana calling Fawad and Mahira her “favorite duo.”

According to Galaxy Lollywood, Pakistani cinema is set to welcome a major comedy film as Mahira Khan, Fahad Mustafa, and Tabish Hashmi come together for an upcoming feature film under Fahad Mustafa’s production banner Big Bang Entertainment.

Fahad Mustafa, star of megahits Na Maloom Afraad and Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad, is returning to the big screen in a leading role alongside long-time co-star Mahira Khan. Adding to the excitement, popular stand-up comedian and talk show host Tabish Hashmi will make his cinematic debut, finally stepping into the acting spotlight. Known for his sharp wit on Hasna Mana Hai, Hashmi has often expressed interest in acting, and this film marks the perfect vehicle for his first on-screen venture.

Speaking in an Eid special interview earlier in the year, Fahad revealed that he is currently developing two film projects, slated for release in 2026 and 2027. “I’m working on two films. One of them will release in 2026, and the other in 2027,” he confirmed.

  • Fawad, Mahira’s Neelofar set for theatrical release this winter

Fawad, Mahira’s Neelofar set for theatrical release this winter

After years of anticipation, the much-awaited film Neelofar, starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, is finally slated for release this winter.

The film marks the on-screen reunion of the beloved duo, who rose to stardom with their iconic television drama Humsafar in 2011.

Mahira Khan recently unveiled the official poster of Neelofar on Instagram, captioning it with a poetic message: “Agli mulaqat ka intezar rahay ga. Neelofar – This Winter.” The announcement has reignited excitement among fans eagerly awaiting the film’s release.

Directed and written by Ammar Rasool, Neelofar has been in the making since 2019. Production was initially delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced the team to pause filming with only 10 days remaining in the shoot. However, shooting eventually resumed and was wrapped up in late 2020, with key sequences filmed in the historic Walled City of Lahore.

Speaking at an event in June last year, Fawad Khan confirmed that the film had entered its final stages of completion.

Mahira, too, had previously shared emotional reflections from the set, hinting at a deeply personal connection to her role. Though the original posts have since been removed, her words, “I take with me a piece of you… leaving a bit of my soul with you,” captured the sentiment surrounding the project.

With the film now heading to cinemas, Neelofar is expected to recreate the magic of Humsafar and offer audiences a memorable cinematic experience.

The duo’s last collaboration was 2022’s The Legend of Maula Jatt that earned over PKR 274.7 crore (approximately $9.5 million) worldwide, with PKR 115.02 crore in Pakistan and PKR 160.8 crore in other territories as of December 2022.

It should be mentioned here that the power duo will again be seen together in the upcoming Netflix series Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo.

  • Who hired Mahira for her first VJ job?

Who hired Mahira for her first VJ job?

Writer, director and host Wajahat Rauf has revealed that he was the one who first hired star actor Mahira Khan as a VJ.

“It was I who first gave superstar Mahira Khan her initial job as a VJ on Aag TV,” he said while appearing on a podcast with his wife and co-producer Shazia Wajahat.

On how he hired Mahira, Wajahat revealed, “Many years ago, I was attending a launch event where I first noticed Mahira. I saw her dancing and enjoying the event wholeheartedly. She stood out because of how clearly she was enjoying herself.”

“After that, I decided to hire her as a VJ on my channel. Once she was hired, we had an agreement that she would report directly to me. She worked at the channel for 3 to 4 years, and since then, I have shared a very close bond with Mahira.”

When asked about working with Mahira, Wajahat and his wife said, “In the past, we’ve intended to work with Mahira several times, but due to scheduling conflicts or remuneration issues, it never happened. However, we do plan to work with both Mahira and Fawad Khan in the future.”

During the same conversation, host Mubashir Hashmi asked about Hania Aamir, to which director Wajahat Rauf clarified the common misconception that he introduced Hania Aamir. “In fact, Hania had already been working in the industry for the past 4 to 5 years before we worked together.”

It is worth mentioning that Mahira Khan began her showbiz career in 2006 as a VJ. However, her breakthrough came with the drama Humsafar, which brought her massive success.

She later made her film debut with Shoaib Mansoor’s movie Bol, which then took her to new heights of fame. Mahira has since appeared in various films and dramas. Bin Roye, Shehr-e-Zaat, Sadqay Tumhare and Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay are among most watched.

Notably, she has also worked in Bollywood opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the film Raees.

  • Mahira Khan backs Fawad Khan’s Aabeer Gulaal, urges Pakistani release

Mahira Khan backs Fawad Khan’s Aabeer Gulaal, urges Pakistani release

Pakistani superstar Mahira Khan has thrown her full support behind Aabeer Gulaal, the much-anticipated Bollywood romantic-drama starring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor, which has released worldwide, except in Pakistan and India.

Taking to her Instagram stories, Mahira reposted a post calling for the film’s release in Pakistan and added her own fiery endorsement, “Exactly! He is our star! Our cinemas will benefit from releasing the film too.”

Her comment comes as fans across the globe flock to theaters, while audiences in Pakistan remain deprived due to a lack of clearance from the government.

The film, originally scheduled for a May 9 release, was delayed and ultimately banned from release in India. It finally saw the light of day on September 12, enjoying a warm reception internationally, but continues to face a roadblock in Pakistan due to the absence of a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

The film is yet to be cleared for release in Pakistan because of its Indian Origin. However, Aabeer Gulaal has entirely been shot in London and one of its producers – among its three – is a Pakistani living abroad.

Meanwhile, Aabeer Gulaal is drawing critical acclaim wherever it has been released. A glowing review by a major Indian news outlet, shared on the film’s official Instagram, praised Fawad’s magnetic performance. “Fawad Khan, as always, gives a delightful performance. His looks and smile ensure the battle is half won, while his subtle and impactful act takes care of the rest.”

The surprise package, however, appears to be Vaani Kapoor, whose performance is being hailed as her career-best. “This is her best performance by miles and viewers will be astonished to see her delivering like a seasoned performer.”

In a recent interview, Fawad said cinema was begging for such a film because everything is now very intense, dark or dramatic – a thriller or too much of blood and gore. “This is more like a palate cleanser. The best foods are the ones with the simplest ingredients where you can taste everything individually. And that only happens when there’s no complication in it. So, this is that kind of a meal.”

On the film’s rocky road to release, the superstar candidly admitted, “I was very worried. There was a lot of pressure around the film’s release. But my belief in the story and its message helped me push forward.”

As Aabeer Gulaal wins hearts across the globe, the only question remains when will it get the green light to do the same in Pakistan.

  • Mahira Khan slams industry practice of delaying payments

Mahira Khan slams industry practice of delaying payments

Superstar Mahira Khan has responded to veteran actor Syed Mohammad Ahmed’s recent remarks about delayed payments in the entertainment industry, expressing concern for the technicians and crew members working behind the scenes.

In a statement shared to her Instagram story, Khan noted that if prominent actors face such challenges, the situation is likely worse for technicians and others with less visibility. “Imagine… if senior actors, popular actors… hit maker directors go through this – just imagine what technicians go through.”

Mohammad Ahmed, in a widely shared interview, criticised production houses for withholding payments from actors for extended periods. He stated that actors are often made to wait three to eight months for payment, and in some cases, are not paid at all. According to Ahmed, “The treatment actors receive when requesting payment is often demeaning, with some having to justify their personal financial needs.”

In the same interview, Hajra Yamin stated that contracts are typically one-sided, favoring production houses. “If a shoot is canceled due to an actor, they are penalized, but when producers cancel, it is generally accepted without issue,” she said.

Yamin added: “Technicians and junior crew members are affected even more than actors, with some being told to work without pay, receiving only food in return.”

Saheefa Jabbar Khattak said that she once proposed including healthcare and anti-harassment clauses in her contract to ensure production houses cover medical expenses in case of injury. However, she said her proposal was ignored. She further revealed, “I have to go for therapy for six months after completing each drama due to mental stress.”

Director Mehreen Jabbar noted that many in the industry choose to remain silent due to “fear of losing future work.”

Actors Ramsha Khan, Yasir Hussain, Nadia Afgan, Alizeh Shah, and Khushhal Khan have also publicly addressed these issues. Industry insiders report that production houses rarely face penalties for delayed payments, while actors and crew continue to work under uncertain financial and physical conditions.
