    How to renew your CNIC through the NADRA online portal

    It is too stressful to stand in the long line outside the NADRA office to renew your National Identity Card. The National Database and Registration Authority, NADRA also gives you a convenient method to renew your identity card while sitting at home.

    Here are the following steps you need to follow for the renewal process.

    • First, go to the website of Nadra online portal
    • Click on the “ApplyNow/Login”
    • Make your account first and fill in the all required details.

    Click on the given link https://id.nadra.gov.pk/e-id/getRegistered

    • A verification code will be sent to either SMS or email.
    • Enter the code and click on verify option
    • You will be redirected to the login page
    • You will view different options, click on the Online CNIC
    • A new window will appear and then you need to choose the option “My identity card has expired.”
    • Click on the “Start Application” given at the bottom of the window.
    • A form will appear in which you have to write your required details.
    • Write the specific address where you want your card to be delivered.
    • Pay the application fee online through your debit or credit card.
    • Upload the scanned photograph and required documents
    • Download the fingerprint form and apply your fingerprints to it.
    • Use this link https://id.nadra.gov.pk/docs/FingerprintGuidelines.pdf for fingerprint guidelines.
    • Scan the document with your fingerprints and upload it.
    • After that, download and fill the Urdu data form.
    • Once the Urdu form is filled, scan it and upload it. You may have to upload the witness form if it is applicable.
    • Review all the provided information and sign the declaration.

    Your application will be completed after following all the steps and NADRA will initiate your renewal process. Your new card will be delivered to your chosen address.

    ECP reserves verdict in Faisal Vawda’s disqualification case

    The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reserved its verdict on a disqualification petition filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda.

    Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja heard the petition filed against Vawda in Islamabad pertaining to his dual citizenship. Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Qadir Khan Mandokhel and Faisal Vawda appeared before an ECP bench.

    CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja asked Mandokhel whether he wanted to present more documents or give additional arguments.

    Mandokhel said today is the 30th hearing of the case but he could not get the answers to his questions. The PPP leader said, “ECP has been issuing warnings for the last one-and-a-half years.”

    On this, Raja said that the ECP will decide the case whether it gets the answers or not.

    Mandokhel was of the view that Faisal Vawda had held United States (US) nationality at the time of filing his election nomination papers. He said that the concerned RO was not punished as he had rejected his papers instead of disqualifying Vawda.

    The PPP leader said that Vawda had falsely declared in an oath to the ECP that he did not hold any foreign nationality. The PTI leader had concealed his dual nationality during the scrutiny of his nomination papers, said Mandokhel.

    Vawda’s counsel rejected the allegations, saying that his client had never applied for another country’s nationality. He said Vawda was born in the US and that his client had cancelled his American passport.

    As per NADRA’s record, Vawda’s US citizenship had been seized on May 29, 2018, said his counsel.

    The chief election commissioner inquired whether NADRA could issue a certificate that says an individual is a Pakistani citizen and not that of any other country.

    “How can NADRA know this? We will look into this matter,” said the chief election commissioner.

    After hearing the arguments of both sides, the ECP reserved its verdict in Vawda’s disqualification case.

    The ECP had adjourned the hearing till December 23 while directing Vawda to submit his arguments by this date.

    Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday said those who chant “vote ko izzat do” (give respect to vote) slogan bought votes for Rs2,000 for the upcoming by-election in Lahore.

    His comments come in relevance to the viral video in which workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) can be allegedly seen distributing cash among the voters of the Lahore constituency. The video surfaced days ahead of the by-election in Lahore’s NA-133 constituency scheduled for December 5.

    Addressing a public gathering Fawad said, “I hope that when the offices of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would open on Monday, they would take notice of the matter and would ask the PML-N how getting votes by distributing money was a service to democracy and giving respect to the ballot.”

    Taking a jibe at PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz, Fawad said that she and her husband Captain (retd) Mohammad Safdar should bid adieu to politics, further adding that whenever their case was about to be heard in courts, they leaked fake videos to pressure judges and state institutions.

    “Maryam Nawaz had said she did not own any property in London and even in Pakistan but after Panama Leaks, we came to know that she owned property worth billions not only in Pakistan but also abroad. We repeatedly ask them to show receipts, else there are only two options: to return the money or go to jail,” said Fawad.

    The video created an uproar in the political arena, as PML-N and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders accused each other of trying to buy votes in the constituency.

    Later on Sunday, Returning Officer (RO) Syed Basit Ali wrote separate letters to the Punjab Police chief, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Lahore deputy commissioner, and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), drawing attention and seeking more information about the persons seen in the video clips to take action against them.

    The lower house seat from Lahore fell vacant due to the death of PML-N MNA Pervaiz Malik, who died on October 11 due to heart-related complications.

    A meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology on Thursday witnessed a curious discussion on the security of important data as an official of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed that the system of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) had been hacked. He later changed his statement when pressed to elaborate upon his remarks.

    “We have discovered that Nadra’s data has been compromised, it has been hacked,” Tariq Pervez, additional director of FIA’s Cybercrime Wing, told the meeting chaired by Ali Khan Jadoon. The FIA had seized around 13,000 illegal SIMs during a crackdown in Faisalabad, he said.

    Pervez said that 89,000 complaints have been received by his wing, but they did not have enough staff to address the complaints reported on a daily basis.

    “The FIA’s cybercrime wing has only 162 investigation officers,” he added.

    Pervez’s statement caught the attention of the committee members who put various questions to him regarding the theft of Nadra data. After this accusation, the FIA’s additional director altered his statement and said that Nadra’s data had not been hacked, but its biometric system had been compromised and used during the SIM verification process.

    He further informed the committee that whenever they traced a suspect involved in financial frauds, the suspect mostly turned out to be an elderly man or a woman, whose data was being used by someone else.

    Nadra, refuting the claim of the FIA official in a statement, said, “The FIA statement regarding hacking of biometric data is based on misunderstanding,” adding that Nadra would seek clarification from the FIA over the “unnecessary statement and misrepresentation of the issue”.

    Responding to concerns of the committee members, Pakistan Telecommuni­ca­tion Authority (PTA) chairman retired Maj Gen Amir Azeem Bajwa said that complaints could be lodged against those involved in sending messages related to financial fraud at the PTA website.

    Jadoon of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the chairman of the committee, stressed that it was essential to keep national interest and national perspective into consideration while formulating laws.

    In a ruling, the Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) to issue Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) to a woman who didn’t know about her father’s whereabouts, reports Samaa.

    Rubina was brought up by a single mother as her father had left the family many years ago. The local court ordered NADRA to issue CNIC to Rubina based on her mother’s citizenship record. Her mother works in the Education Department.

    When Rubina, who is specially-abled, turned 18 and went to a local NADRA office to obtain her CNIC, she was told that the card would not be issued unless she provides the record of both her parents.

    “When I went to the NADRA office, they refused to issue me CNIC and asked to bring my father or any other guardian. Where could I have found my father, who left me and my mother when I was young?”

    She filed a petition with the court, which resulted in a landmark verdict. In the past, many orphans in Pakistan have faced this problem regarding the issuance of CNIC.

    Advocate Usman Farooq stated that the ruling would apply to similar cases and now the children with single parents would be able to get their CNICs after producing the record of only a single parent.

    Jamaat-e-Islami proposes law to ban gender reassignment surgeries, condemns current law

    Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) presented a bill in the upper house of Parliament Senate seeking an amendment in the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2018, for the creation of a medical board that would recommend “whether a person’s gender should change, instead of them seeking a reassignment on the basis of their personal identity”, reports Dawn.

    The bill was presented by JI’s Senator Mushtaq Ahmad who recommended the formation of such boards at the district level comprising of a professor doctor, a psychologist, a male general surgeon, a female general surgeon, and a chief medical officer after the approval by the Prime Minister (PM) and provincial Chief Ministers (CM).

    The proposed law also seeks a ban of gender reassignment surgeries or any other treatment to change genital features on the basis of “any psychological disorder or gender dysphoria”. It also states that the law in its present form could lead to the “legalisation of homosexual marriages”.

    However, the present law states: “A person recognised as transgender shall have the right to get himself or herself registered as per self-perceived gender identity with all government departments including, but not limited to NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority).”

    According to the JI, under the current law, a person could get themselves registered as a man or a woman not on the basis of their biology but their “personal thoughts”.

    Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari strongly opposed the proposed bill which was presented by JI and said the proposed amendment was aimed at “victimising” transgenders. She defended the current law and argued that it gave Transgenders Persons the right to identity.

    “Till date, not a single complaint has been received regarding the misuse of this existing law,” she said.

    JI and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) senators protested Mazari’s remarks, following which Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, sent the bill to the relevant standing committee for discussion.

    According to data shared with the house, 16,530 cases of gender change from male to female were processed, 12,154 cases of female to male, 21 cases of transgender to male, nine cases of male to transgender and as many cases of transgender to female.

    Al-Qaeda, TTP members in possession of Pakistani ID cards: report

    Members of Al-Qaeda, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Indian and Afghan nationals have been found to be in possession of Pakistani Identity Cards (ID), according to a government report.

    The report was presented by Senator Faisal Sabzwari of the Muttahida Qaumi Moment Pakistan (MQM) in the Senate Standing Committee on Interior.

    It states that some arrested Afghan citizens had ID cards issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Karachi where allegedly 50% to 60% of employees are involved in corruption.

    According to the report, Abdullah Baloch of Al-Qaeda and an Indian citizen who was involved in the Safoora Goth also had an identity card.

    NADRA chairman Muhammad Tariq Malik said that the matter is under investigation, 12 officers have been arrested and 29 have been suspended.

    The Punjab government suspended the Medical Superintendent (MS) and a senior doctor of Lahore’s Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital over Nawaz Sharif’s fake vaccination entry case.

    MS Ahmed Nadeem and Dr Munir Ahmed have been asked to report directly to the health department, reported Geo News.

    According to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) watchman, Abul Hassan and ward boy Adil used the ID of a third employee, Naveed, to enter Sharif’s fake data into the system. Police registered cases against the three of them and arrested Abul Hassan and Adil.

    Moreover, the investigative team comprising officials from FIA and the provincial health department have seized important records from the hospital.

    A four-member team presented a report before Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar. The National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) summoned the Punjab health secretary to Islamabad.

    A fake entry was made on the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) portal, which said that Nawaz, who is currently in London, was administered the first dose of Sinovac on September 22 and he is due to receive the second dose next month. The entry was later deleted from NADRA portal.

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz said, “Just like this fake government, its vaccination record and entry data for vaccines is also fake.”

    Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari tweeted on Friday that 24 men had been detained through geo-fencing and matching records from National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) for harassing and assaulting a female TikToker and her team members at Lahore’s Greater Iqbal Park on Independence Day.

    The minister wrote, “More arrests are expected today” in connection with the “condemnable” incident.

    She further stated that a police investigation was also in progress against the alleged negligence of police officers in the assault case.

    Following a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and other senior officials, Inspector General Inam Ghani said that senior police officers had been suspended for negligence and delayed response in dealing with the incident.

    “We have suspended SHO and SDPO whereas Divisional SP, SSP Operations and DIG Operations Lahore have been removed from their posts,” Ghani wrote in a tweet.

    “Strict departmental action will be taken once the inquiry committee submits its detailed report on the role and response of other officers,” he added.

    On August 17, the Lorry Adda police had filed a case against nearly 400 suspects for harassing and assaulting a woman at Lahore’s Greater Iqbal Park. The videos of the incident went viral on social media and sparked an outrage.
