  • ‘Barzakh’ gets high praise from Indian media

‘Barzakh’ gets high praise from Indian media

Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed’s Barzakh, produced for India’s Zee Zindagi, debuted on July 19 online.

The show has garnered rave reviews from Indian media, with reviews praising the performances, cinematography and story.

The Quint’s Pratikshiya Mishra called the series “profound and arresting.” Praising the performances, the review concludes, “Barzakh isn’t a perfect show by any means but it’s a show that stays with you long after you stop watching. It’s a show that forces you to think and it’s one you will need to sit with for a while.”

Shubra Gupta terms the series “powerful” on The Indian Express. Praising nearly all the main actors, she writes: “Fawad Khan, whose heart-throb quotient hasn’t dropped an inch for his fans in India, is every bit as dishy as he has been; Sanam Saeed is as gorgeous.Fawad M Khan’s older sibling Saifu is terrific, too, as is the handsome Italian chef played by Franco Giusti, who adds succulence in his dishes and his demeanour. Salman Shahid’s patriarch towers over all else: even his unravelling has power.”

Over on India Today, Bhavna Agarwal says the story might not be everyone’s cup of tea. For those that do like it, she praises Asim Abbasi’s helming of the project. “There’s more to every character than what meets the eye. This is probably what makes ‘Barzakh’ such an enjoyable watch,” she contends.

The Hindu’s Shilajit Mishra has penned a mixed review, praising some aspects as bewitching and others as overblown,: “Abbasi is on song when exploring his favoured themes of guilt and generational trauma. The heavier stuff — allegories about female oppression, religious fanaticism and the erasure of ethnic communities — mostly land with a thud.”

We can’t wait for the next episode drop to see where the story goes next.

Actor Usman Peerzada, a respected figure in the world of arts, is shocked by the electricity bill he has received.

Rising electricity bills and increasing taxes have made life difficult for many people in Pakistan. Even those who are financially stable are struggling to cope with growing costs.

This summer, Usman Peerzada expressed his shock over an exceptionally high electricity bill. Despite using only one air conditioner for his entire family, the bill was still very high. He mentioned that even with alternative technologies, the government is imposing taxes on them as well. Peerzada warned that he might disconnect his house from the grid if the situation does not improve.

“I received such a high bill that I don’t know what will happen in the future. I feel like I might have to get my electricity disconnected. And then I think about those who don’t have as many resources; what must they be going through? The heat is so intense that we can’t live without electricity,” he remarked.
Here is what he had to say:

PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan says party members being forced to deflect

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Gohar Ali Khan has stated that his party members are being forced to switch their loyalties.

While talking to media, Gohar strongly condemned the “abduction” of PTI leaders and their family members, including MNA Sahibzada Ameer Sultan, PTI media wing member Rizwan Malik, Mian Fayyaz Ahmad Chajra’s son Mian Tajamal Hussain and brother Mian Imtiaz Hussain and other social media activists.

He called for the Supreme Court to take notice of this urgent matter and also ensure the implementation of its recent verdict of reserved seats’ case.

The PTI Chairman slammed the government for re-arresting party activist Sanam Javed on Sunday after her release while demanding Khan’s and Bushra Bibi’s immediate release as well.

He claimed that Bushra Bibi was arrested again in the Toshakhana case only to “break” former PM Imran Khan, as his wife had nothing to do with the case.

  • Is Khan ever coming out? Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi arrested in NEW Toshakhana case

Is Khan ever coming out? Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi arrested in NEW Toshakhana case

There seems to be no respite for the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, as they have been arrested in a new  National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference related to Toshakhana gifts, on the same day they were acquitted in the Iddat case by an Islamabad court.

A team of NAB headed by Deputy Director Mohsin Haroon ‘arrested’ them both in Adiala jail, where they are already serving their term. Geo News has reported that this new case is related to the alleged ‘misuse of power for acquiring Toshakhana gifts’.

Previously, Khan’s sentences in the previous Toshakhana cases were suspended, and the Islamabad High Court (IHC) also acquitted him in the cipher case.

However, in a separate incident, an Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore dismissed Khan’s pre-arrest bail petitions this week in three cases related to the May 9 events.
