Denmark’s men footballers refuse salary rise to secure equal pay for women

Denmark’s male footballers have refused a salary increase for playing for the national side to gain their female counterparts equal basic pay, the players’ union said on Friday.

“The men’s team chose not to ask for a salary increase … to improve the conditions of the women’s team,” union spokesperson Magnus Hviid told AFP.

He welcomed “an extraordinary measure to help take this small step in the right direction”, but acknowledged there were “still more glass ceilings to break to ensure equal opportunities and conditions within national teams”.

Hviid said the action “obtained the same basic salary for the women’s national team and the men’s national team, as well as better insurance coverage for the women’s team”.

The agreement, signed at the end of May, provides for identical match bonuses for women and men during away matches.

However for the moment due to no bonus for home matches there remains a disparity in the overall pay between the women’s and men’s national teams.

The Danish football federation (DBU) and the union have agreed to bring forward negotiations on a new deal for the women’s national team after the summer break.

Denmark are competing in Euro 2024 and are joint second in Group C after two draws against England and Slovenia.

96 years punishment for mafia for stealing land of British-Pakistani businessman

District and Sessions Judge Ali Nawaz of Anti-Corruption Rawalpindi Court has handed out a sentence of 96 years of rigorous imprisonment and a total fine of Rs 5.8 million to four people, including two revenue officials, for their involvement in multiple cases of cheating, manipulation, and fraudulent ownership papers forgery against a prominent British Pakistani family. The investigative story has been covered by Chief Correspondent of Geo News, Murtaza Ali Shah.

The convicted men are Raja Shahid Ahmed, Muhammad Almas Abbasi, Haq Nawaz Abbasi and two government officials Aurangzeb Patwari, Malik Muhammad Safdar.

The case was registered in 2021 in Rawalpindi by the complainant Nisar Afzal and his son Hamzah Afzal accusing two revenue officials – Aurangzeb Patwari, Malik Muhammad Safdar – of conspiring and forging their land records to transfer it to three above-mentioned people.

The fraud was confirmed by a report of Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) as it was established that the land records were tampered with in order to steal the land worth around Rs 3 billion.

“I am of the considered view that the accused persons had committed cheating, fraud, manipulation, prepared fake documents with the purpose and intention to get wrongful loss to the complainant and unlawful gain for them,” stated the ruling by Judge.

“I suffered so much that some of my family members left for the UK, faced with threats to kill by the accused. This was a case of a daylight robbery. I am thankful to the court and the prosecution for giving me justice. Overseas Pakistanis are a great asset and this should not happen to them or anyone else,” said Nisar Afzal who has been vindicated and gotten relief from the anti-corruption court.

Baaji director Saqib Malik shares experience working with Meera

Filmmaker and director Saqib Malik was invited recently as a guest on Dawn News’ show Aap Ki Kahani with Deepak Parwani. He discussed his experience working with Meera in ‘Baaji.’
“Working with Meera was a wonderful experience.

Despite the rumors and gossip surrounding her, we managed to complete the film successfully and it received a great response. It was a labor of love, and I would love to collaborate with her again in the future. Meera is an incredibly talented actress with a very expressive face that conveys a thousand emotions without needing much effort. She brings great energy to the set, but her trusting nature can sometimes be a weakness, as she believes others easily and can be influenced by hearsay. Nevertheless, her hard work and dedication to her craft are evident in the appreciation she received for her role in Baaji. I’m grateful for her brilliant performance and my own hard work on the project.”

Note: He has directed many music videos, including ‘Khumaj’ , Na Re Na’, and ‘Love Mein Gum’. His recent success was the feature film ‘Baaji’ (2019).
