Flour prices hit record high in Punjab due to inter-provincial smuggling

Owing to increased smuggling of wheat and subsidised flour bags to other provinces, the price of flour in the Punjabi capital increased by Rs5 per kilogramme to Rs140.

Smuggling has exacerbated Punjab’s flour problem, increasing open-market prices to an all-time high. According to sources, the subsidised flour bags were being smuggled into Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkwa at a cost of Rs2,400 each bag.

Prices for 10-kg and 20-kg flour sacks in Lahore have risen to Rs1,400 and Rs2,800, respectively, while Chakki flour has risen to Rs140 per kilogramme, according to Dunya News.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the local administration in Jhang stopped an attempt to smuggle flour bags from a local flour factory, seizing nearly 1,000 20 kg bags from a truck.

According to wheat dealers, the open market price of wheat has risen to Rs4,700 per 40 kg. Furthermore, the rate for a commercial unit of power from 6 pm to 10 pm has risen to a staggering Rs70 to Rs80, severely hurting the economics of grain trading.

Lahore Atta Chakki Owners Association has requested the government to immediately prohibit the inter-provincial movement of wheat and its products in order to halt the ongoing rise in wheat prices.

A wedding photo shoot at King Edward Medical College divides social media

Two days ago, a tweet criticizing a photographer for photographing a wedding shoot on the grounds of King Edward Medical College went viral on the bird app. The tweep shared a clip of Instagram photographer @naumanclicks showing the couple walking around campus. He shared in a post that students weren’t allowed to roam around grounds or visit the library after 5 pm, terming it unfair that these liberites are granted to outsiders

In the next tweet, the user continued to criticize the wedding industry for reducing the value and sanctity of historical buildings, as well as the contributions to medical history that colleges like King Edward and Punjab University had provided to Pakistan.

The post ended with the user sharing an update of a letter that notified students about King Edward administration being aware of the video of the wedding photoshoot, stating that a committee would look into the incident.

However, social media users were quick to jump in, defending the photographer and the married couple, by pointing out that the blame should entirely fall on the administration for permitting the photo shoot.

Others had pointed out that university grounds were regularly used for filming movies or wedding photo shoots, and rather than criticizing the couple, the user should have expressed criticism towards the institution for barring students from going out after 5 pm.

‘Not a Banana republic’: Ahsan Iqbal hits out at people saying that Pakistan is going to default

Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has hit out at speculation that Pakistan is going to default.

Talking to Geo News’ programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada kay Sath‘, he said, “Pakistan is not Africa’s banana republic. We have a large economy. Voices saying that the country is heading towards default shouldn’t come from inside of Pakistan.”

The federal minister said that when people were saying Pakistan is going to default in two weeks, the coalition government took tough decisions to pull the country out of danger.

He also took a jibe at the rival party— Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)— accusing the former ruling party of building the narrative that Pakistan is going to default.

“Even India is not speculating about Pakistan’s financial crisis but PTI and Imran Khan have launched a war against the country,” he pointed out.

The federal minister also claimed that 80 per cent of Pakistan’s total debt was taken during Imran Khan’s tenure, which the current government has to handle now.

He reiterated his government’s commitment to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme but added that the administration is trying to minimise the burden on people as inflation is already at a historic high and Pakistan has just suffered a natural disaster that caused damages worth $30 billion.

  • the good, the bad, and the cringe: here are some of the most trending drama scenes of 2022.

the good, the bad, and the cringe: here are some of the most trending drama scenes of 2022.

We had a good run with Pakistani dramas this year. They made us laugh, they made us cry and some made us cringe. While the chemistry between some on-screen couples positively sizzled, some scenes made us want to wash our eyes with bleach.
However all was not lost. The year give us some mind-bogglingly hilarious scenes this year, and social media managed to make some amazing content out of them.
Here are some of the top trending drama clips that went viral on social media in 2022.

    1. First on our list is obviously Aye Musht-e-Khaak, which began gaining attention on social media after a confusing conversation between a husband and wife went viral on social media. Twitter users were perplexed at how urgently the husband kept pressurising his wife to go on a honeymoon with him, and wasn’t able to avoid the elephant in the room.

We have to give it to this show because even though it provided us with a done-to-dust, extremely cringey storyline that reeked of male entitlement, the memes they provided us with were top tier.
Like this user making a meme out of Feroze Khan having a breakdown

    https://twitter.com/Ishq_jess/status/1495791982756909062?s=20&t=KoeN1M7Hzf_LSB0g6koZNA

Or Feroze Khan losing it in the car.

    2. The second one on our list is obviously going to be the drama “Haqeqat” for giving us this absolute masterpiece of a scene.

    3. The absolutely cringey phone call between a stalker and a girl, which apparently was suppose to be a love confession by the former.

Proposing to her with flowers? A trip to Paris or Italy? Boys, Danish Taimoor is here with notes on how to make a lady literally swoon. By threatening to shoot yourself. No big deal, huh?

5.Thanks to this clip Pakistanis learnt a new word overnight “razai behen-bhai”:

    6. James Dean who? Haroon Kadwani became the new face of manchild in 2022. This scene managed to generate an entire generation of memes we will tell our grandchildren about someday.

    7. Shoutout to the memorable time when women all over Pakistan were told that having curly hair is wrong.

    8. We should also applaud how dramas came to address domestic violence and abuse in a honest, refreshing manner. Like this scene in Phaans, where the mother refuses to shelter her son after he stands trial for abusing his wife.

    9. While other dramas educated their followers on the toxicity of rishta culture and how they break down any woman’s worth and self-esteem based on how rich she is or her beauty. Like this scene in Sinf-e-Aahan, Sajal Aly’s character schools her parents for forcing her to keep adhering to the toxic rishta culture, when she wanted to join the army like her brother.

    10. The wonderful drama “Doobara” shattered stereotypes when it focused on a middle-aged woman starting her life all over again after she was married off against her choice when she was young. Hadiqa Kiyani won hearts on the internet when this clip began trending online where Hadiqa’s character reminds her son and sister-in-law that she isn’t just a mom, but a living breathing human being who deserves to live her own life without feeling like a burden.
