Naseem Shah warns that a fake Snapchat account with almost one million followers is using his name

A fake account has been created on Snapchat in the name of Pakistani fast bowler Naseem Shah, who garnered international fame during the Asia Cup. He recently asked his fans to report the account so that it can be banned by the app.

On the photo and video sharing platform Instagram, where Naseem Shah has over a million followers, he recently posted a story informing followers of his fake Snapchat account.

Making fake accounts online using the names of well-known celebrities has become increasingly common. Anyone operating the account utilises the name of any popular or viral figure to get followers and likes, especially those without verified social media accounts.

The bogus Snapchat account made in the name of Naseem Shah has 976,000 followers as of now.

  • Wake up State, yeh hum sub ka masla hai

Data has revealed that 2,211 children were sexually abused in Pakistan in 2022 from January to June. This horrifying number comes to approximately 12 children who are abused each day according to Sahil, an NGO that works against child sexual abuse. At least 1,207 girls and 1,004 boys were reported to be victims of sexual abuse according to the report.

Earlier this week, a 10-year-old boy was allegedly raped by the Imam of a mosque in Lahore. As per media reports, the child had gone to offer Fajr prayers in the mosque where the accused, Abbas, took him to the basement and allegedly raped him. Then there was a case where a 16-year-old girl, a grade 9 student, was working as a translator for a Chinese national on a monthly pay of Rs15,000 since May 2021. She was raped by a man for months, who threatened her with dire consequences if she resisted.

Statistics reveal how bad and ugly it is but what is being done? Answer: nothing. These are just the official numbers or cases that have been reported. There is a growing concern that most cases of rape, sexual abuse, and other such forms of violent abuse against children and young girls are not reported due to societal taboos. Despite laws in place that address these issues, not many victims have found justice. And the way our society reacts to such crimes, by blaming the survivors makes it all the more difficult for people to come forward and report these crimes. With each passing day, a child is raped, a minor girl somewhere in Pakistan is forced to get married, and somewhere someone gets abducted. The silence of the state on matters that need the most attention is rather appalling. For how long will people keep suffering? What are our policymakers doing to make the lives of people in Pakistan better? With all the abuse, harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, and rapes being reported, where are we headed as a society? Has humanity died completely? Imagine the pain of the children and the families who have been victims and survivors of these horrific crimes. This needs to stop and the state needs to wake up from its slumber.

For our part, The Current has been following up on rape cases for almost two years since the Motorway rape incident which happened in October 2020. As of yet, a total of 1584 cases have been recorded from what we found in news outlets. The number is likely way more than this since these are only the ones we found in the news.

The state also needs to raise more awareness about such crimes. We need to teach our children from a very young age about these sensitive issues. We cannot hide away from these crimes that take place on a regular basis just because our society casts aspersions. If there is justice for the survivors, then more people will find the courage to report these crimes. We cannot let our children down.

Govt may announce revised petrol prices today

After Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif returns to Pakistan from Uzbekistan today, the federal government is expected to announce revised petroleum product prices.

Amid these rumours, fuel pump owners have stopped buying petroleum goods, according to Geo News.

Reportedly, the Prime Minister’s Office has notified the Finance Ministry of the POL price announcement.

According to sources, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) did not advise lowering gasoline and diesel prices in its brief given to the finance division. Instead, a minor increase in POL costs is predicted. However, the final decision on POL prices is likely today.

Previously, it was expected that the price of petrol would fall from Rs235.98 per litre to Rs226.36 after a Rs9.62 per litre reduction over the next two weeks.

Moreover, the price of diesel is likely to rise by Rs3.04 per litre, raising the rate from Rs247.26 to Rs250.30 during the specified period.

KP Finance and Health Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra took to Twitter to criticise the government’s delay in announcing revised POL pricing, sparking a debate on the social media platform.

  • Honda introduces the CG125 2023 ‘new model’ and it has nothing new

Honda introduces the CG125 2023 ‘new model’ and it has nothing new

Due to its durability and powerful engine, the Honda CG125 has been one of Pakistan’s best-selling motorcycles for decades. Despite the fact that the manufacturer has not modified its shape or added any major or small modifications to it in nearly two decades, customers continue to buy it.

Atlas Honda recently announced a “new model” of the Honda CG125, despite the fact that it has nothing new to offer local buyers. The bike has the same body, motor, tyres, handles, and everything else; the only thing that has been changed is the stickers that are pasted on the fuel tank and side covers.

Some of the alterations to the engine include a slightly altered head and cylinder, a slightly revised combustion chamber design, a new gear-oil pump drive, a new gear timing drive, and reinforced engine mounting points. These improvements may allow the Honda CG125 to perform slightly better than the previous iteration, but the change in performance may be so minor that a layperson would be unable to tell the difference.

The bike manufacturer has not raised the price of its bikes in a long time, so the CG125 standard and CG125 SE are priced at Rs179,900 and Rs210,900, respectively.

  • How to apply for government jobs in Pakistan

How to apply for government jobs in Pakistan

Many Pakistanis prefer working for the government over the private sector since a government job not only offers job stability but also other incentives that encourage people to work for the government.

People from middle-class households typically favour working in the government. We have addressed the benefits that favour government jobs for career advancement because there are some benefits that the private sector does not provide.

Here are some advantages of government jobs:

    Working hours

The benefit of choosing government employment over the private sector is the flexible work schedule. In contrast to positions in the private sector, when employees are occasionally required to work a little bit extra, occupations in the public sector have set working hours. However, in some government agencies, working overtime is required without compensation.

    Job security

The biggest benefit of working for the government is job stability. And there is no job security in the private sector. In contrast, there is very little chance that any government official will lose his or her job.

Employees in the private sector are displaced like houseflies because this perk is only available to those working in government sectors.

    Promotions

Another crucial element in the public sector is the promotional benefit. Promotion in government positions is always contingent on how well and how long you work. However, this can occasionally be both a benefit and a drawback because someone who is above average may not be able to develop as quickly as his typical counterparts.

    Benefits and perks

Next in the government sector are the perks and rewards. As a result, the government sector offers a wide range of benefits, including pension plans, retirement benefits, health care, housing loans, and childcare, among others. However, several significant private sector enterprises do provide such advantages.

In the government sector, however, retirement becomes crucial since it guarantees the longevity of a person’s career.

    Lesser stress

The government sector, as we’ve seen above, has set working hours. Therefore, these hours will result in reduced work-related stress. The best time frame to finish the work on time and in the best way is offered by government jobs, which is not available in the private sector.

    Respect

Along with all these advantages, working for the government increases respect. Everyone will treat you with respect if you work for the government because of your authority and position.

    Salary increments

The other best perk of working for the government is, of course, wage increases. As a result, your compensation will rise without regard to how well you perform. So this is fantastic if you are an average performer.

These multiple advantages provided by government employment may provide you a competitive advantage over the private sector. A government career is the ideal option, though, if you are considering doing something exceptional in the future and need job fulfilment.

‘Our patience won’t last long’: Imran Khan wants early elections

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, in an address to the nation has once again demanded early elections, warning that PTI’s patience was wearing thin.

“If we want to save the country from discord and chaos, free and fair elections need to be announced immediately,” he said.

“Our patience won’t last long if you continue like this, we will have to give a call to the nation,” said Khan, addressing the government.

“If there is no political stability, the economy won’t stabilise. So I want to tell my people today that we need to have elections quickly to save Pakistan from this quagmire,” the former Prime Minister insisted, adding that it was his fear that there will be no economic progress without political stability.

“The incumbent government does not have any credibility, both inside and outside Pakistan, especially in the financial markets,” alleged Khan, mentioning that the prices of fuel and electricity across Pakistan had reached an all-time high and warned that they would further increase in the near future.

Unemployment is increasing, inflation is rising, and businesses are closing down, Imran said. “The danger I am seeing right now […] Our credit rating has fallen to negative […] do you know what this means? They think Pakistan doesn’t have the ability to repay and due to this, the cost of loans will increase,”‘ he warned.

  • ‘Terror case against me is a joke’: Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday appeared before Islamabad Police’s Joint Investigation Team (JIT) for questioning in connection with a terrorism case registered against him.

Earlier this week, the Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) had extended the ex-premier’s bail till September 20 and instructed him to become a part of the investigation.

“I was quiet because of the economic conditions of the country; there was flooding[…] so we decided to protest peacefully,” the PTI chief stated while talking to the media, warning that if he gave the call “The government won’t able to tolerate it”.

“You will not be able to bear the day I give a call, because people are already cursing you […] you go out and public curses you […] PPP in Sindh is hiding,” he said while addressing the government.

“This is an imported government, robbers have been imposed on us through a conspiracy,” he said, adding that “free and fair” elections were the only way forward for the country.

“This is a joke in front of the entire world. Why? Because everyone knows me, there have been headlines across the world that an FIR (first information report) has been registered against Imran Khan on terrorism charges,” he stated while talking about the allegations he faces.

The world knows the definition of terrorism charges, he pointed out. “If you are slapping terrorism charges on me for saying that we will take legal action against the custodial torture [of incarcerated PTI leader Shahbaz Gill], then the entire world is laughing at you.”

“They are trying to crush my party,” Khan said and warned that the government could not withstand his protest call.

He maintained that his party may hold negotiations with the government but only on the topic of free and fair elections.

He lashed out at the coalition government over its alleged failure in controlling the economic crisis and said, “Pakistan is following in the footprints of Sri Lanka.”

He maintained that free and fair elections are the only solution to the economic crisis. He also criticised the government for doing politics amid floods and harassing his party’s donors.
