‘Didn’t think people would like it,’ Hasan Raheem shares Gilgit wedding details

Singer Hasan Raheem has shared details about his Gilgit wedding and celebrations, saying he didn’t think people would love them.

In an interview with BBC Asia journalist Haroon Rashid, Hasan opened up about his traditional Gilgit wedding. At his mother’s request, he wore traditional cultural attire and through his wedding, the world got to see the rich traditions of Gilgit-Baltistan.

On the wedding, Hasan wore traditional Gilgit-Baltistani clothing and performed a traditional dance, which was widely appreciated for its authenticity and cultural richness.

He called his wedding week the best week of his life, adding that through his attire, dance and celebrations, people across the world learned about Gilgit-Baltistan’s wedding customs and cultural heritage.

Hasan expressed special gratitude to his mother who encouraged him to wear the “shouqa” (a traditional coat).

“I really liked my cap and the jacket I wore called Shuqa which was actually my father’s… gifted by my nana (maternal grandfather).” Decorated with a feather and called “shati”, he said the credit of his look goes to his mother.

Hasan admitted that he didn’t expect people to appreciate his attire, traditions or dance as the traditional dance is usually performed by a select few within the community. “I wasn’t sure that people are going to like it but everyone loved it.”

He shared that he was initially worried about how people would receive his dance, but after the videos surfaced online, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive with many commenting that they had never seen such a dance before and found it incredibly impressive.

“I was surprised by the response. Before the dance went viral, I told his friends that if music didn’t work out, I’d pursue dancing instead.”

When asked about expressing love for his wife, Hasan said that before bringing her on camera, he had many thoughts running through his mind, but he silenced them all, trusting that what he was doing felt right.

He once again emphasised that his wedding week was the best of his life. Although he initially didn’t plan to share the wedding publicly, his mother asked him, “Should we confiscate the phones of all the wedding guests?” To which he said no. “I said to my mom, our relatives will not approve of the idea.”

As a result, many videos of the wedding were filmed and later went viral on social media, giving the world a glimpse of the beauty of Gilgit-Baltistan’s culture.

Hasan Raheem got married to Noor, a close relative, in August, with the celebrations lasting an entire week.

Atif Aslam’s Toronto tour sets milestone: Backstage glimpse reveals ‘The Real Show’

Music sensation Atif Aslam has taken fans behind the scenes of his recent Toronto concert, sharing a heartfelt video that captures the true spirit of his Canada tour.

The video, titled “The Real Show,” offers a rare glimpse into the camaraderie, preparation and raw emotions that shaped one of his most memorable performances till date.

The superstar performed to a sold-out crowd at Scotiabank Arena, becoming the first Pakistani solo artist to fill the prestigious venue. The performance was part of his ongoing “Borderless 2025” tour, which continues to attract massive crowds across North America. The Toronto leg of the tour was particularly special with the crowd singing along to his classics and reacting enthusiastically to every track.

In the video posted to Instagram, Atif is seen surrounded by his crew and musicians backstage, reflecting on which songs resonated most with the audience. While his hit track Tu Chahiye plays in the background, team members share their favourite moments from the night. One musician described feeling “blessings” in the energy of the performance while another declared it the best show yet.

A standout moment, as highlighted in the video, was Atif’s surprise performance of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, which one crew member called “the banger part of the show”.

Adding to the magic of the tour was a special on-stage appearance by fellow artist Meesha Shafi. The duo lit up the arena with a high-voltage rendition of their Coke Studio hit Jugni, blending Punjabi folk with rock, much to the delight of the Toronto audience. Shafi also expressed her gratitude for being part of the historic show, calling it an honour to join Atif on such a grand stage.

While the tour has been a roaring success, it hasn’t been without controversy.

In a separate interview during his Canadian tour, Atif admitted that he misses Bollywood. Reflecting on his years of playback singing for Indian films, he described the experience as magical and said he remains hopeful about future collaborations beyond borders.

The tour also sparked some mixed reactions online after a video from his Vancouver concert showed a fan dancing on stage beside him. While some praised the spontaneity, others criticised the behavior as disrespectful, igniting debate across social media platforms.

Humail Rajpoot says Pakistani Coke Studio is better than India’s; Indians agree

Pakistani singer and songwriter Humail Rajpoot has sparked a lively conversation online after claiming that Pakistan’s Coke Studio is superior to its Indian counterpart and surprisingly many Indian listeners agreed.

In a recent Instagram reel, the emerging artist and digital creator expressed his disapproval after watching a song from the latest season of Coke Studio India. Rajpoot referred to an Indian podcast in which singer Shilpa Rao was asked why Coke Studio Pakistan outshines the Indian version. According to him, while Rao couldn’t offer a clear answer, he could sum it up in one line: “We do not have Anup Jain, that’s why our Coke Studio is way better.”

Rajpoot then criticized the lyrical quality of the Indian song he was sent, highlighting the track titled Aise Aise Kaise Waise Jaise Jaise. “First of all, what are these lyrics,” he asked. “Who approved this kind of content? I’m genuinely surprised that Coke Studio India released such a track.”

He didn’t hold back on his broader concerns about the music scene, saying, “We also have a few people in Pakistan who don’t even know the scale of a song while performing on stage. I know people will backfire at me for this, but all I care about is music. I fear for the respect of music.”

In the caption of his reel, Rajpoot elaborated on his views, calling some new singers “commercial puppets” and accusing them of lacking true artistry. “There’s no art at all,” he wrote.

Despite the critical tone, Rajpoot’s remarks resonated with many Indian listeners. One user commented, “Humein bhi nahi pata, hum kaise, aise, kaise, waise jhelte hai (we also don’t know how we deal with it),” echoing the criticism humorously.

It is worth mentioning here that renowned Indian playback singer Shilpa Rao has previously spoken positively about Coke Studio Pakistan. In an earlier interview, she praised the show’s commitment to musical authenticity and innovation. Rao, who performed in Coke Studio Pakistan Season 9 alongside Noori in the hit track Paar Chanaa De, noted that Pakistan treats the show as a flagship annual production, unlike India, where it is considered just one of many projects.

With over 100,000 followers on Instagram, Humail Rajpoot is known not only for his music but also for his candid commentary, often described in his bio as “giving reality checks.” His latest remarks have certainly struck a chord, even across the border.

To a question about memories of song Dil Diyan Gallan, Atif said he was in Dubai with Vishal Shekar. “I remember they made me sing on low notes and I am glad they did that because everyone wanted and expected high notes from me. When I sang it in low notes, a beautiful tune popped in. Also, the song had beautiful lines. Yes, I sang for Salman Khan as well and it is always a pleasure to sing for Salman Khan because we have met a few times… what a man, what a guy.”

Meanwhile, many Indian fans of the singer are saying that they miss him too.
