    Imran Khan will not leave country at any cost, claims Arif Alvi

    Former president and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Arif Alvi has claimed that incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan is being offered to “strike a deal and leave the country,” Geo reported on Wednesday.

    During a press conference in Faisalabad, Alvi revealed that Imran Khan, in a display of unwavering commitment, turned down the offer and vowed to stay in the country at all costs.

    The former president also said that those who conspired to sentence Imran Khan will face complete failure.

    The PTI leader, in a clear demonstration of the party’s open-mindedness, confirmed their readiness to engage in dialogue with ‘stakeholders but not with the non-stakeholders’. He urged all politicians to let go of their animosity and approach matters compassionately.

    He stated that Khan’s release will be the supremacy of law in the country, adding that the people in power shouldn’t be afraid of the former Prime Minister’s release.

    Khan to face new cases in future: Sanaullah

    Advisor to Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah stated on Geo News program ‘Capital Talk’ that new cases would be filed against former Prime Minister Imran Khan after he recently got major relief in the cypher case from Islamabad High Court on June 3.

    “Doubts can be created in a simple matter…at one time, we saw back-to-back sentences without the creation of doubts. It is likely to see doubts in the iddat case as well just like we saw in the cypher case,” said the former Interior Minister.

    Sanaullah opined that the iddat case was being termed a “personal affair” of a public personality which is not true.

    He said that Khan was nominated in cases in which he confessed his crimes and admitted that new cases would be filed in the days to come.

    Sanaullah hinted at Khan’s controversial X post that a case might be filed regarding that.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Gohar Khan has revealed during an investigation by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) that Jibran Ilyas and Azhar Mashwani manage the party’s social media accounts from abroad, Express Tribune has reported.

    FIA has initiated a probe regarding the controversial video released from Imran Khan’s social media account about the 1971 Fall of Dhaka.

    During the inquiry, Barrister Gohar emphasised that he did not agree with the decision to upload the controversial video. He confirmed that Ilyas and Mashwani are primarily responsible for content creation and video production.

    During the FIA’s cybercrime inquiry into the contentious video, Barrister Gohar was interrogated for two hours, while the party’s Information Secretary, Raoof Hasan, was questioned for four hours.

    Meanwhile, Azhar Mashwani today posted on X, “My two elder brothers Prof. Mazhar and Prof. Zahoor Mashwani were picked up from our house in Township Lahore at 2:50 pm today by dozens of CTD uniformed and plain clothed people.”

    FIA arrests social activist Sarim Burney from Karachi

    The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested social activist Sarim Burney from Karachi on charges of human trafficking, Geo News reported on Wednesday.

    Authorities apprehended him when he landed in Karachi from a tour to the United States (US) of America. A source in FIA revealed that authorities arrested Burney on a complaint by the US government.

    Sarim Burney allegedly adopted 25 children and illegally smuggled them to the US, the FIA source added.
    The source claimed that the FIA has started an investigation into the matter.


    The activist runs the Sarim Burney Welfare Trust International, a non-profit trust “representing the oppressed and less privileged population”, according to the organisation’s website.

    As per the website, the trust provides “legal services for child abuse, harassment, sexual assault, human trafficking, domestic violence, violation of human rights, workers compensation rights and other serious crimes.”

    The Russian Embassy in Pakistan on June 4 posted a clarification on the social media website X, formerly Twitter, stating that, “The official pages of the Embassy of Russia on social media platforms are the only credible source of information on our Ambassador’s engagements and activities.”

    Interestingly, accounts affiliated with the political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on June 3 claimed that the Russian ambassador to Pakistan sent a “congratulatory message” to Chairman PTI Imran Khan for getting relief in the Cypher case.

    Multiple accounts affiliated with PTI started re-tweeting the claim on X.

    The Russian embassy in Pakistan also stated, “The Embassy of Russia in Islamabad is closely following the developments in Pakistan, including the political situation and court decisions. However, we believe that it is up to the Pakistani people to react to and comment on these developments.”

    Bushra Bibi files petition for early hearing in Iddat case

    Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has filed a petition for an early hearing in the Iddat case on Tuesday. This is the only case left as a hurdle for the couple to get out of Adiala jail. 

    The former first lady requested the district and sessions court to fix the case for hearing this week as petitions have already been filed.
    The court has set the hearing for June 7 following the plea filed by Bushra Bibi, onw day after the Islamabad High Court accepted District and Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand’s request to transfer the iddat case to another court.

    After the judge’s request, the IHC transferred the case to the Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majuka.

    Renowned Pakistani actor Behroze Sabzwari recently appeared on a podcast with Adnan Faisal on his YouTube channel FHM Pakistan in which he defended Chairman PTI Imran Khan’s character by stating, “I’ve shared a drink with him [Imran Khan] on numerous occasions, and he has never consumed more than one.”

    As expected, the small clip has gone viral on social media websites and people have opinions.

    One user posted that the hilarious situation is like a friend defending him in front of his father.

    Many users pointed out the apparent hypocrisy in former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s speeches about developing “Riyasat-e-Madina” – a model of Islamic State founded on Islamic principles and laws.

    And then there were also PTI-supported accounts, some of whom claimed the video was “fake” and “propaganda”.

    IHC orders CDA to de-seal PTI office in Islamabad

    Providing yet another relief to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday has ordered the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to de-seal the party’s Central Secretariat.

    Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz said in a six-page written order, “CDA may take action strictly by the law in case of any non-conformity or violation of the applicable laws.”

    Furthermore, the order stated that the CDA had issued a show-cause notice to the previous owner in 2022 and 2023 but without providing an explanation.

    It also said that the CDA did not issue a prior notice to the PTI before sealing its office, a claim supported by the party leaders.

    PTI moved the IHC seeking its order to de-seal its central secretariat in Islamabad after the CDA had demolished a portion of the building.

    What are the major cases against Imran Khan and how did they turn out?

    Khan was collectively given sentences of 30 years in the Cypher Case, Toshakhana reference case and the Iddat case.

    CYPHER CASE

    In January 2024, Imran Khan was sentenced to ten years by a special court, established under the Official Secrets Act, in the cypher case. On June 3, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) reversed the decision and found PTI founder Imran Khan not guilty in the cypher case.

    The allegation against Khan in the case was that he had not returned the cypher to the relevant ministry.

    TOSHAKHANA REFERENCE

    On 31 January 2024, the court convicted and sentenced Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 14 years in prison in the Toshakhana case and ordered them to pay a fine of about 1.5 billion rupees. In April 2024, IHC suspended this sentence however they were not released as they were convicted in other cases as well.

    The Toshakhaana case was about selling gifts he was given in his capacity as prime minister without declaring proceeds for tax purposes.

    IDDAT CASE

    On 3 February 2024, a trial court sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to seven years in prison for marrying during Bushra Bibi’s Iddat period. The court also imposed a fine of Rs0.5 million on each of them. However, an appeal was filed and is ongoing.

    AL-QADIR TRUST CASE

    Khan was also implicated in the Al-Qadir Trust case when he was arrested on May 9, 2023. An Islamabad accountability court on May 29 granted PTI Chairman Imran Khan bail in the Al-Qadir Trust case till June 19 against surety bonds worth Rs500,000.

    The Al-Qadir Trust case alleges that the PTI chief and his wife, Bushra Bibi, obtained billions of rupees and land worth hundreds of kanals from real estate tycoon Malik Riaz. This was given in return for Khan legalising Rs50 billion that was returned to the country by the UK during the previous PTI government.
