    Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan at the conclusion of the Olympic Games on Sunday, shared a message for his followers on social media, featuring a Tiktok video that conveys the importance of not giving up.

    “I want the youth of Pakistan to watch the race and learn the most important lesson that sports taught me: you only lose when you give up,” wrote the premier.

    The 62-second clip shared by PM Imran Khan shows an athlete falling down on his face during a sprint before getting back on his feet again and finishing ahead of everyone else.

    It is the fourth time that the wildly popular video sharing app has been blocked in Pakistan and the third time this year. Free speech advocates are critical of growing censorship since PM Imran Khan took office in 2018.

    The app has been caught up in a series of legal battles with religious activists and authorities. Prior to this shutdown, the app was barred for two days in early July on the order of a provincial court.

    Despite being hugely popular and useful to many who market and sell goods online in Pakistan, TikTok has many critics in the country who claim the app promotes vulgarity.

    In June, the company announced it had removed more than siz million videos in just the previous three months alone as a result of complaints from officials and citizens alike. Of those six million videos, 15% were pulled because of “adult nudity and sexual activities.”

    The first time that Pakistan moved to block TikTok in 2020, the ban was lifted after diplomatic pressure from China and assurances from Byte Dance, the parent company, with regards to content moderation.

    Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Athar Minallah expressed anger over the fourth ban on video-sharing app TikTok by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and has asked the authority for justification regarding the ban.

    Chief Justice IHC was hearing a citizen’s petition against ban. During the hearing, CJ IHC remarked: “Why has TikTok been banned? If banning TikTok is the only solution, then Google should also be banned.”

    The PTA lawyer said that the ban was imposed under PECA in light of the orders of the Sindh and Peshawar High Courts. Chief Justice IHC Athar Minallah directed the PTA counsel to read out both the judgements and remarked that neither of the courts had asked for a complete closure of TikTok, but had rather asked to create a mechanism.

    TikTok was banned for the fourth time in Pakistan on July 21, 2021 for its failure to take down “inappropriate content”. Days before the ban, President Arif Alvi had joined TikTok to “spread the message of positivity & motivation for the youth of Pakistan“.

    President Arif Alvi joins TikTok to endorse the ‘message of positivity’ for the youth

    The President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi has joined the social media app, TikTok. In an official tweet by the President’s Twitter handle, it is shared that he wants to spread positivity and motivation amongst the youth of the country.

    A video has been posted on the President’s official account already. It’s a snippet from a speech that President Alvi made in the past, the message of which is directed towards the youth.

    The news is spreading across social media platforms and local netizens have posted polarizing responses to the announcement.

    One user said that it’s a “pragmatic, excellent idea.”

    One of the users challenged a dance-off to the President.

    A clip from Faysal Quarishi’s show on a local TV Channel has gone viral on social media in which Faysal lost his temper on a contestant’s misconduct on live show.

    During the show a female contestant started hitting her fellow contestant in a frank capacity, on which the Fitoor star got angry and lashed out on the makers of the show for hiring such contestants for the game show. He also scolded the TikToker who is also a contestant on the show and conducted the unprofessional act in front of him.

    “Kahan se laye ho yaar yeh badtameez, jaahil log?” (Where did you get these ill-behaved, ignorant people?) said Faysal.

    The video is surfacing across digital media platforms and Faysal even trended on Twitter for this video where netizens praised him for taking a stand on the matter.

  • Fawad Chaudhry welcomes Sindh High Court’s decision to withdraw TikTok ban

    The Sindh High Court (SHC) has lifted the ban on the video-sharing app, TikTok. The ban was imposed on June 28 for spreading immorality and obscenity in the country. The case has been adjourned till July 5.

    Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has welcomed the decision by the SHC. “Technology war is being fought in the world right now.”

    “The regulatory bodies and judiciary should stay away from such fights and the investors wanting to invest in Pakistan should be welcomed,” Chaudhry added.

    Senator Faisal Javed Khan has urged youth to utilise social media platforms in a responsible and productive manner. The senator further added that PTA has promised to dispose of the complaints by July 5.

    The recent ban on TikTok was imposed for the third time in Pakistan. Earlier this year in March, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) banned TikTok over immoral content, but the ban was later lifted in April.

    Last year, Pakistan blocked the app on October 9, 2020. The ban was lifted after the TikTok management assured the Pakistani authorities that it will block all accounts repeatedly involved in spreading obscenity and immorality.

  • TikTok issues a statement on Sindh High Court’s ban

    TikTok has reacted to its suspension by the Sindh High Court with an official statement. The statement read, “We continue to work with regulators, and look forward to serving the millions of TikTok users and creators in Pakistan who have found a home for creativity, fun and vital economic opportunities for many years to come”, as reported by Express Tribune.

    The statement also mentioned that, “The creativity and passion of our community has brought joy to households across Pakistan and provided a platform for incredibly talented creators”.

    TikTok Pakistan’s latest transparency report revealed that it removed a whopping 6,495,992 videos making it the second most country to get the maximum videos removed after the USA, where 8,540,088 videos were removed.

    On Monday, SHC banned TikTok across the country till July 8 for spreading immorality and obscenity in the country. TikTok ban has been imposed for the third time in Pakistan.

    Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has criticised the Sindh High Court (SHC) for banning the video-sharing app TikTok. On Monday, SHC banned TikTok across the country till July 8 for spreading immorality and obscenity in the country.

    “Pakistan will never come out of its economic crisis if judicial reforms are not undertaken,” the minister wrote in a tweet.

    Fawad Chaudhry further added: “My head is spinning after reading yesterday’s verdicts on TikTok ban and the removal of the NBP president. What are our courts doing?”

    Chaudhry said that the country has already suffered losses worth billions of dollars due to judicial activism.

    Man kills wife for posting videos on TikTok

    A man allegedly murdered his wife in Karachi’s Landhi’s Sherpao Colony for uploading videos on social media app TikTok in spite of his objections.

    As per reports, the man, identified as Ishaq, killed his wife and mother-in-law over TikTok videos in Karachi on Sunday.

    Police said the man had asked his wife not to go out without his permission and post videos on TikTok.

    The deceased identified as Ramsha used to make TikTok videos but her husband did not like it. Police said Ramsha was living at her parents’ house after fighting with her husband.

    Police have recorded the statements of the eyewitnesses and raids are being carried out to arrest the suspect. A case has also been registered against Ishaq.

    Tik Tok influencers jailed for human trafficking

    Tik Tok influencers in Cairo, Egypt were convicted of human trafficking by a Criminal court

    As per reports, Haneen Hossam, 20 was sentenced to 10 years in jail and a fine of 200,000 pounds while 22-year-old Mawada El Adhamwas was sentenced to six-year jail and fined 200,000 pounds.

    They were imprisoned for encouraging young women to record indecent videos and post footage on the video-sharing app in exchange for money.

    They were detained last year and later handed out a two year-sentence each for violating the values and principles of the Egyptian family and provoking debauchery.

    On January 12, their two-year-sentence was cancelled after they were acquitted of violating family morals. But a week later, the court upheld an appeal overturning jail sentences on charges of human trafficking.

    Hossam was arrested in April 2020 on charges of asking young women to share indecent videos on Tik Tok app, while El Adham was arrested in May 2020 after sharing indecent video clips on Instagram.
