Arshad Nadeem skips Switzerland event for THIS reason

Pakistan’s javelin star and Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem has withdrawn from an upcoming competition in Switzerland to focus on training in England ahead of key events later this year.

Speaking to the media, Arshad confirmed that he will miss the Switzerland event and travel directly to England for an intensive training camp. “I have skipped the event in Switzerland. Now I am going straight to England for training. After training there, I will participate in the Diamond League in Poland on August 16,” he said.

He added that his main target is the World Championship scheduled for September in Tokyo. “My entire focus is on the World Championship in Tokyo in September. I am leaving for London on July 14 for training,” Arshad said.

Explaining his decision, Arshad revealed that he had experienced a muscle strain in his shin during training in Pakistan. “I had a strain in my shin during training here. I did not want it to worsen, so I decided to withdraw from the event. Coach Salman Iqbal Butt will accompany me,” he shared.

Arshad also noted that Pakistan’s weather conditions made training difficult. “It is extremely hot here, and the monsoon season has started too. Training here has become challenging, so I am going to England, where the weather will be pleasant and the training will be better,” he said.

He added that there is always a risk of injury during this season in Pakistan. “That’s why I had a strain in my shin. In England, I will recover properly and prepare well for the two major events,” he added.

It merits mention that Arshad Nadeem was originally scheduled to compete at the World Athletics Silver Tour on July 15.

  • Restoration of Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor houses comes with huge price tag

Restoration of Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor houses comes with huge price tag

The long-neglected ancestral homes of Bollywood legends Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor in Peshawar’s historic Qissa Khwani Bazaar are finally set to be preserved and restored, as part of a major cultural heritage plan announced by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

Approved under the World Bank-funded Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Integrated Tourism Development (KITE) project, the province will spend a total of Rs1.04 billion on conserving heritage sites and promoting heritage tourism. Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur approved the wide-ranging projects during a high-level meeting this week.

A sum of Rs33.8 million has been allocated for the restoration of Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor’s ancestral homes. Despite being declared heritage properties, these historic houses have remained in a state of disrepair for decades, drawing criticism from activists and the local community.

Dilip Kumar, born as Yusuf Khan in 1922, and Raj Kapoor, born in 1924, spent their early childhoods in Peshawar before moving to India after Partition. Both went on to become icons of South Asian cinema and always spoke fondly of their roots.

The larger plan includes Rs295 million for upgrading museums across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, focusing on better display systems, conservation labs, visitor facilities and security measures to protect valuable artefacts and improve the educational experience.

Several key archaeological sites will also benefit. The Baho Dheri site in Swabi District has been allocated Rs45 million, while Rs40 million will go towards conservation at Ranigat in Buner District, another major Gandharan site. The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Takht Bhai Buddhist monastery in Mardan will receive Rs30 million for preservation and infrastructure improvements.

Development of the Guli Bagh site in Mansehra District has been approved with a budget of Rs35 million. In Dera Ismail Khan, Koh-e-Sulaiman will receive Rs155 million and the Sheikh Badin archaeological site has been allocated Rs190 million for preservation work.

Additionally, Rs220.59 million will be spent on strengthening security and protective infrastructure at major heritage and archaeological sites across the province to prevent encroachment, vandalism and unauthorised access.

Officials believe these long-awaited steps will not only protect priceless cultural landmarks but also help boost heritage tourism, generating economic activity and opportunities for local communities.

  • Filmmaker Jami gets bail after two- year jail sentence

Filmmaker Jami gets bail after two- year jail sentence

Filmmaker Jamshed Mahmood Raza, widely known as Jami, has been granted interim bail by the Sindh High Court, just days after being sentenced to two years in jail for defamation.

His lawyer confirmed the news on Thursday and said that an appeal against the conviction has already been filed. Jami has been ordered to submit a surety of Rs50,000 along with personal recognition bonds.

Jami’s legal team argued in the appeal that the trial court wrongly shifted the burden of proof upon the appellant [Jami], contrary to settled principles of criminal law and natural justice, where the entire onus lay upon the prosecution to prove the alleged offence beyond reasonable doubt.

They further claimed that the evidence on record is unreliable and highly contradictory, and the prosecution has failed to establish the offence beyond reasonable doubt.

The appeal requests the court to suspend the sentence and overturn the decision after hearing the arguments.

Earlier this week, a Karachi additional sessions court sentenced Jami to two years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs10,000 under Section 500 of the Pakistan Penal Code for allegedly defaming fellow filmmaker Sohail Javed in 2019.

The case was based on a letter that Jami read out at the Lahooti Melo festival in Jamshoro, which focused on the #MeToo movement. The letter was written by an anonymous sexual assault survivor and shared experiences of being abused by a famous person in the entertainment industry. Jami also posted the letter on his Facebook page.

Though the letter did not name anyone directly, Sohail Javed claimed that several details in the letter led people to believe it was about him. He alleged that Jami “did nothing to stop the speculation or deny the accusation.”

Javed said the letter contained “specific references” like “he was a music video and TVC director,” “he was a panellist at a festival in Hyderabad,” and “he introduced his 23 or 24-year-old son to me, who worked in the same profession as mine.”

He added that descriptions of personal stories shared by the alleged predator [that] led people to believe that [Javed] is the subject of the accusation. According to Javed, this caused “irreparable damage” to his reputation.

  • Hasan Ali vows to retire from limited-overs formats for Test cricket

Hasan Ali vows to retire from limited-overs formats for Test cricket

Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali has stated that he has no plan to retire from Test cricket, saying he will continue playing the longest format as long as he is fit, regardless of what happens with T20Is and ODIs.

In a recent interview with a local sports platform, the 31-year-old pacer shared his passion for the traditional format, calling it the most challenging and rewarding version of the game.

“Test cricket is my love. Even if the time comes to retire from T20s and ODIs, I won’t even think about quitting Test cricket as long as I’m fit,” Hasan stated.

Hasan, who made his international debut in 2016, has played across all three formats for Pakistan but has recently been seen more in white-ball cricket. Despite this shift, the right-arm pacer said he remains fully committed to his red-ball journey.

“My job is to perform,” he said. “Whether or not I get selected is up to the PCB, the captain, and the team management.”

To date, Hasan has played in 24 Test matches for Pakistan, claiming 80 wickets and scoring 382 runs. His last Test appearance was in Pakistan’s tour of Australia in January 2024, when he played the Sydney Test.

For now, Hasan is not part of the squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, starting July 20 at the Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. According to sources, his absence is only temporary as he continues to play county cricket in England.

He is currently representing Warwickshire in the ongoing men’s Vitality Blast 2025 and is in top form, ranked as the third-highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets in nine matches at an economy rate of 8.43.

Hasan recently made an impressive return to the national side during the T20I home series against Bangladesh, where he finished as Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker. He took eight wickets in three matches, including a five-wicket haul.

According to sources, selectors are likely to consider Hasan for Pakistan’s upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies in August.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan squad will arrive in Bangladesh on July 16 ahead of the T20Is scheduled for July 20, 22, and 24 in Dhaka.

  • Mohsin Naqvi rebuffs rumours about President Zardari’s removal from office

Mohsin Naqvi rebuffs rumours about President Zardari’s removal from office

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has firmly rebuffed rumours that President Asif Ali Zardari is being asked to resign or that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, is allegedly aspiring to assume the presidency.

Naqvi took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, writing that “we are fully aware” of who is behind the “malicious campaign” targeting the president, Prime Minister (PM) Shahbaz Sharif, and the army chief.

“I have categorically stated that there has been no discussion, nor does any such idea exist, about the President being asked to resign or the COAS aspiring to assume the presidency,” he clarified.

Naqvi underscored that the President enjoys a strong and respectful relationship with the Armed Forces’ leadership. “I know who is spreading these falsehoods, why they are doing so, and who stands to benefit from this propaganda,” he quoted Zardari as saying.

The interior minister emphasised that the sole focus of the COAS is the strength and stability of Pakistan, “nothing else”.

“To those involved in this narrative, do whatever you wish in collaboration with hostile foreign agencies. As for us, we will do whatever is necessary to make Pakistan strong again, InshAllah (sic),” he said.

While some media reports suggest that it all started with a couple of journalists “revealing” on social media that a plan was underway to remove Zardari for allegedly leaking the specific meeting conversation regarding the plan to build new Canals from the Indus River, others claim the rumours began circulating after the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) obtained a simple majority in the National Assembly (NA) after the reinstatement of reserved seats by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) following the top court’s Constitutional Bench verdict.

Meanwhile, speaking to a private media outlet today, PML-N Senator Irfanullah Siddiqui also denied reports of Zardari’s resignation.

“Reports that Zardari is resigning, Imran’s sons are coming, Nawaz Sharif is going to Adiala… these are not news. They are bogus stories,” he said.

Siddiqui added, “Zardari has not created any difficulties for the government, and understands his constitutional responsibilities as head of state.”

The Senator claimed that the PML-N had “no trouble” working with the president and there was no credible reason to remove him from office.

“We have a coalition with the PPP. Why would we bring down this system,” he questioned.

  • Sindh govt offers to take responsibility for Humaira Asghar’s burial arrangements

Sindh govt offers to take responsibility for Humaira Asghar’s burial arrangements

A day after actor and model Humaira Asghar’s family refused to accept her remains for burial arrangements, Sindh government’s Culture Department has offered to take responsibility for the same, citing the contributions of the late actress to the country’s arts and culture.

Humaira’s months-old corpse was earlier this week discovered at her rented apartment in Karachi’s Defence area. Investigation and medical examination suggested that the actor passed away around October last year and her body remained undiscovered for around nine months until her landlord attempted to have the apartment vacated with the help of law enforcement over non-payment of rent.

As the news spread like wildfire, it was reported that Humaira’s legal heirs, including her parents, had refused to accept the remains, saying that they had severed ties with her a long time ago.

With several people offering to accept the remains to perform the late model’s last rites, a Sindh government letter has revealed that the provincial culture department, on the directives of the minister, has also offered to take responsibility for Humaira’s burial arrangements with respect and in a dignified manner.

“I am directed to refer to the subject cited above and to state that Minister, Culture, Tourism, Antiquities & Archives Department, has taken notice of the sad demise of the actress Humaira Asghar and has expressed his deep sorrow for her death. Further he is very much aggrieved for non-cooperation from her legal heirs to take over the custody of the body for burial,” read the letter to Karachi South’s deputy inspector general of police dated July 10.

It added that in light of this situation, and considering her contributions to the arts and culture of the country, the Culture Department, Government of Sindh is willing to take responsibility for her burial arrangements with respect and in dignified manner.

While the remains are for now in law enforcement’s custody, Humaira’s sister, amid widespread outrage, has also reportedly contacted authorities for the same to be handed over to the family.

  • Pakistanis in awe as Bilawal bashes Modi on Indian media

Pakistanis in awe as Bilawal bashes Modi on Indian media

Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday gave an exclusive interview to Indian journalist Karan Thapar on The Wire, the first major appearance by a Pakistani politician on Indian media since the two countries engaged in military clashes in May.

The PPP chairman said the Indian public was “lied to” by New Delhi about Pakistan’s alleged involvement in the April 22 attack in Pahalgam in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) that killed 26 people, including a Nepalese national.

Bilawal reminded the Indian journalist that Pakistan has been willing to be part of an impartial international investigation into the Pahalgam incident, however, “your government refused that”.

“To this day, the Indian government has not shared with Pakistan, with the international community, with the Indian public… who exactly are these individuals that were involved in this terrorist attack that are from Pakistan?” said the PPP chairman, asking Thapar why did he not know the names of the attackers.

“It’s very uncomfortable for you that I point out the truth to the Indian public, that they have been lied to… that Pakistan was involved in this attack when we were not,” he stressed, as Karan Thapar turner increasingly aggressive.

Bilawal further stated that New Delhi has been unable to provide the evidence that Pakistan allegedly orchestrated the attack in Pahalgam, adding, “That’s why during this war, the Indian media and the Indian government launched a campaign of disinformation to continue to bamboozle the people of India.”

On being asked about Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) Chief Hafiz Saeed and the November 26, 2008, Mumbai attacks, which claimed the lives of at least 166 people, Bilawal highlighted that the LeT chief was in prison and that the Mumbai attack case was still ongoing.

“As far as Hafiz Saeed is concerned, the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba, he was sentenced to 31 years in prison for terrorist financing in April 2022 by Pakistan,” Bilawal added.

“As far as the Mumbai attack case is concerned, it’s absolutely true that the case is still sub judice. The frustration that the courts and the Pakistani government and legal system are having with achieving a conviction is that India is refusing to participate in the trial and produce the witnesses necessary to record their statements.”

Despite repeated interruptions and attempts by the Indian journalist to sensationalise the conversation for local Indian audience, Bilawal answered all questions with clarity, without losing his diplomatic poise, a fact being praised by netizens in Pakistan.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one user wrote that during the interview, Bilawal “chooses dialogue over division”. Another wrote, “Midway through the debate, I greatly admire Mr. Bilawal’s calm demeanour and his impressive restraint in keeping his temper throughout.”

Another tweep, while highlighting Thapar becoming unreasonably combative, asked, “As for the interview, was that Arnab Goswami (controversial Indian anchor) in disguise as Karan Thapar?”

“Karan Thapar, usually calm, spoke over @BBhuttoZardari 31 times in 34 mins, interrupted outright 23 times, got visibly frustrated 7 times. Bilawal’s longest free answer? Barely 1 minute. Bilawal didn’t lose composure once. That’s who won the room (sic),” another account pointed out.

“A powerful and bold move by @BBhuttoZardari, taking Pakistan’s stance right into the heart of Indian media. This is not just diplomacy; it’s defiance with clarity. We need leaders who confront narratives, not hide behind them,” a fifth user said.

The international exhibition promises more than just competition on the field. It will offer fans a rare glimpse into the expanding baseball cultures of Pakistan and Palestine, both of which are steadily gaining momentum through grassroots development and youth programs.

All games will be played at Ozinga Field, a well-known minor league stadium located at 14011 Kenton Avenue, Crestwood, Illinois. The first two games will be held under the lights, while the final game will take place during the day.

  • Indian media slammed for questioning Pak hockey team’s Asia Cup participation

Indian media slammed for questioning Pak hockey team’s Asia Cup participation

Indian media has been slammed by Pakistani sports journalist Faizan Lakhani for hate-mongering after Controversial Indian anchor Arnab Goswami targeted Pakistan’s hockey team.

Arnab Goswami slammed the Indian government decision to allow Pakistan’s hockey team to participate in the upcoming Hockey Asia Cup 2025.

According to media reports, Pakistan has received diplomatic clearance to compete in the 12th edition of the Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in Rajgir, Bihar, from August 27 to September 7, 2025. The final decision now rests with the Government of Pakistan.

Arnab Goswami questioned the Indian government’s stance on sporting relations with Pakistan in a YouTube video published on Republic World.

He said, “Why, if we don’t play cricket with them, do we want to play hockey? We refused to play the Champions Trophy in Pakistan and forced a shift to Dubai. Why should we welcome their hockey team here? They should not allowed to raise thier flag on Indian soil.”

Highlighting India’s policy of isolating Pakistan in bilateral sports, Arnab added said, “If Pakistani players are not allowed to play in the IPL because they can’t play in India, if their film stars are not allowed to act in our movies, then why should their hockey team be allowed to play on Indian soil? In 2016, the Pakistan Kabaddi team was denied entry for the Kabaddi World Cup. How is hockey different? What is so special about hockey?”

Reacting strongly to the news, Pakistani sports journalist Faizan Lakhani slammed what he called India’s “hate-mongering” approach to sports. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “After tarnishing the spirit of India-Pakistan cricket, the venom-spewing Indian media has turned its hate-mongering campaign against hockey. If this is India’s idea of sportsmanship, then they have no right to host international events where Pakistan competes.”

“The Asian Hockey Federation and FIH Hockey must immediately strip India of the Asia Cup and Junior World Cup hosting rights. And let the International Olympic Committee take note: India’s politicization of sports, holding sports events hostage to so-called nationalism, should be enough to disqualify their Olympic bids,” he added.

Arnab’s statements echo India’s longstanding policy of suspending bilateral cricket ties with Pakistan since 2012.

In 2023, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, resulting in a hybrid hosting model in the UAE and Sri Lanka. Pakistani cricketers have been barred from playing in the Indian Premier League since its second season.

The same approach has extended to other sports as well. In 2016, India denied visas to the Pakistani Kabaddi team for the Kabaddi World Cup on security grounds. Pakistani film actors have faced bans too after the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Indian illegally occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK). India blamed Pakistan for the attacks, which Pakistan has denied. To date, India has not been able to provide any evidence to support its allegations against Pakistan.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has stated that the team’s participation in India depends on government approval. PHF Secretary General Rana Mujahid has previously said that Pakistan will only compete in the Asia Cup if the government grants permission.

  • ‘Nine-month-old body’: Chilling details emerge in Humaira Asghar’s case

‘Nine-month-old body’: Chilling details emerge in Humaira Asghar’s case

Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali, who was found dead in her Karachi apartment earlier this week, is now believed to have died around nine months ago.

According to media reports, digital records, forensic evidence and accounts from people who worked with her suggest her death went unnoticed for months.

Humaira Asghar Ali’s decomposed body was discovered when a court bailiff arrived to vacate her rented flat in Defence Housing Authority’s Ittehad Commercial area on Tuesday after the landlord filed a complaint over unpaid rent.

When repeated knocks went unanswered, the bailiff broke the door open and found the 32-year-old actor’s remains lying on the floor in a room, hidden away for months.

Initially, Karachi Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed estimated that Humaira had been dead for at least a month, based on the body’s advanced stage of decomposition. But investigators now say evidence points to her death occurring in October 2024.

Her last Facebook post was shared on September 11, 2024, and her final Instagram update was on September 30. Deputy Inspector General Syed Asad Raza confirmed that Humaira’s phone records show her last dialled call was made in October 2024. After that, her phone remained inactive.

Investigators also found that her apartment’s electricity had been disconnected since October last year due to unpaid bills. The flat’s water pipes were dry and rusted, expired food was found in the kitchen and there were no candles or backup lights.

Adding to the timeline, stylist Danish Maqsood, who had worked with Humaira on a photoshoot, told a private media outlet that his last conversation with her was in October 2024 about the shoot. He said she seemed happy and praised the project. Later, when his team sent her a collaboration request to post the photoshoot on social media, she did not respond or approve it. They tried calling her and messaging on WhatsApp but never got any reply.

Danish said that growing concerned, he reached out to some social media publications to report her disappearance but was told it might not be serious. Despite posting notices on two different platforms, he said there was no real response from the industry.

“There were rusted jars, dry pipes and no signs of electricity or candles in her flat,” an investigator said. “One neighbor returned to the vacant apartment on the same floor in February but by then the smell had faded because the balcony door had been left open.”

Police Surgeon Syed, who revisited the scene with senior officers, said multiple surface samples were collected for testing. Two mobile phones found at the scene are being analyzed.

Humaira Asghar Ali rose to fame after winning Veet Miss Super Model in 2014 and was known for her appearance in the reality show Tamasha Ghar in 2022. She acted in popular dramas including Just Married, Ehsaan Faramosh, Guru and Chal Dil Mere, and appeared in the films Jalaibee in 2015 and Love Vaccine in 2021.

Police efforts to locate her family revealed that Humaira’s father had severed ties with her nearly two years ago and initially refused to come to Karachi to claim her body.

But now reports revealted that her family will arrive from Lahore today to receive her body.
