Karachi man killed by brother after heated dispute

A man was fatally stabbed by his brother following a brief argument in the Patel Para area, police said on Thursday.

According to Station House Officer (SHO) of Jamshed Quarters Ansar Ahmed Butt, 40-year-old Dilawar was in the kitchen preparing tea when his brother, Jahangir, walked in.

He reportedly got into a heated argument after Dilawar requested him to step away. In response, Jahangir allegedly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and attacked his brother, inflicting multiple stab wounds.

Dilawar was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi in a critical state, where he succumbed to his injuries and died.

The suspect fled the scene along with the murder weapon, SHO Butt added.

In another incident from June, a teenager died in Karachi’s Guru Mandir area after being pushed during a dispute involving friends and a cousin at a restaurant.

Police said the altercation began over a photo found on a suspect’s phone.

Six individuals were detained, and the body was shifted to Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital for legal formalities.

  • Israel PM sets out red lines for lasting end to war in Gaza

Israel PM sets out red lines for lasting end to war in Gaza

Israel is ready to negotiate a lasting deal with Hamas to end the Gaza war when a temporary halt to hostilities begins, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday.

But Netanyahu said Hamas must first give up their weapons and their hold on the Palestinian territory, warning that failure to reach a deal on Israel’s terms would lead to further conflict.

His comments as Gaza’s civil defence agency said eight children — killed as they queued for nutritional supplements outside a health clinic — were among 66 people who died in Israeli strikes across the territory Thursday.

The UN children’s agency said one victim was a one-year-old boy who according to his mother had uttered his first words only hours earlier.

Efforts to secure a 60-day halt in the 21-month war have dominated Netanyahu’s talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington.

Indirect negotiations have been taking place between the two sides in Qatar, and the militants have agreed to free 10 of the 20 hostages still alive in captivity since the October 7, 2023 attack.

Sticking points include Hamas’s demand for the free flow of aid into Gaza and Israel’s military withdrawal from the territory. It also wants “real guarantees” on a lasting peace, the group said.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said “progress has been made” but admitted in an interview with Austrian newspaper Die Presse that ironing out “all complex issues” would likely take “a few more days”.

There was no agreement on the number of Palestinian prisoners to be released in exchange for hostages, he told the newspaper.

He said that “initially, eight hostages are to be released, followed by two more on the 50th day” of the 60-day ceasefire. “Additionally, 18 bodies of hostages are to be handed over,” he was quoted as saying.

Saar said a lasting ceasefire would be discussed but added: “There are still major differences, especially regarding the question of how Hamas will be prevented from controlling Gaza after the war.”

He said Israel was ready to grant Hamas leaders safe passage into exile.

    – ‘Fundamental conditions’ –

Netanyahu, who is under domestic pressure to end the genocide as military casualties mount, said disarming and neutralising Hamas were “fundamental conditions” for Israel.

“If this can be achieved through negotiations, great,” he said. “If it cannot be achieved through negotiations within 60 days, we will have to achieve it through other means, by using… the force of our heroic army.”

Senior Hamas official Bassem Naim told AFP that it would not accept “the perpetuation of the occupation of our land” or Palestinians being herded into “isolated enclaves” in the densely populated territory.

The group was particularly opposed to Israeli control over Rafah, on the border with Egypt, and the so-called Morag Corridor between the southern city and Khan Yunis, he added.

Israel announced this year that the army was seizing large areas of Gaza to be incorporated into buffer zones cleared of their inhabitants.

Naim said the group also wanted to end the delivery of aid by a US and Israel-backed group, a system which has seen scores of people killed while seeking food rations.

    – Blood and screams –

The Palestinian territory’s civil defence agency said eight children were among 17 people killed in an Israeli strike outside a medical clinic in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza.

“The ground shook beneath our feet and everything around us turned into blood and deafening screams,” said Yousef Al-Aydi, who was in the queue for nutritional supplements when he heard a drone approaching then a blast.

Rabih Torbay, the head of US medical charity Project Hope which runs the facility, called it “a blatant violation of humanitarian law”.

Israel’s military said it had struck a Hamas militant in the city who had infiltrated Israel during the 2023 attack and that it “regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals”.

Overall, at least 57,762 Palestinians have been killed since October 7, 2023.

  • Tottenham seal £55m deal for Mohammed Kudus

Tottenham seal £55m deal for Mohammed Kudus

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Ghana international Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United for £55 million, subject to a work permit.

The midfielder, who had an £85 million release clause, has agreed to a six-year contract that will keep him at Spurs until 2031.

West Ham had turned down an initial £50 million bid from Tottenham last week before the two clubs settled on the final fee. 24-year-old Kudus made 65 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists during his time at the London Stadium.

Speaking to the club’s media team, he shared that he had “always wanted to play at the highest level.” He added, “How big the club is, the history and the Champions League as well, so it’s a big moment. I’m very happy and can’t wait to start.”

Kudus has been an influential figure for West Ham since arriving from Ajax for £38 million in August 2023. He made his Premier League debut as a substitute in a win over Luton Town and soon found the net in the Europa League group stage. In his debut season, Kudus scored 14 goals and registered nine assists across all competitions.

Sources claim Kudus prioritised the move to north London despite interest from at least six other top clubs. He also highlighted new head coach Thomas Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou last month, as a big reason for making the switch.

“From where [Frank] has come from, and seeing the amount of talent he has developed to become great players, it’s a big sign as to why I wanted to work under him as well,” Kudus said.

Tottenham’s summer spending may not stop there. Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is expected to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of a potential £60 million switch to north London.

Militants kill nine Punjabi passengers in Balochistan

Nine people travelling from Balochistan to Punjab were kidnapped and murdered on Thursday night after armed assailants stopped two coaches in the Sarha Dakai region, located along the national highway between Loralai and Musakhel in Balochistan. The attackers reportedly checked the passengers’ identification cards and forcibly took them away at gunpoint.

According to Loralai Division Commissioner Saadat Hussain, the armed men approached the buses and forcibly abducted ten passengers after verifying their identities. One survivor told the Levies Force that gunfire was heard following the abductions. The law enforcement agency later discovered nine bodies in a nearby mountainous region during their search operation.

The Balochistan government stated that the assault was carried out by terrorists belonging to Indian proxy Fitna-e-Hindustan. Provincial spokesperson Shahid Rind indicated that the same group had been involved in coordinated attacks in Mastung, Kakat, and Sarha Dakai.

The deceased belonged to cities in Punjab: Irfan from Dera Ghazi Khan, Sabir Hussain from Kamoke, Asif Sultan from Chok Qureshi, Ghulam Saeed from Khanewal, Junaid from Lahore, Bilal from Attock, Bilawal from Gujrat, and another man from Dunyapur, Lodhran, who was traveling to attend his father’s funeral.

Their bodies were transferred to Rakhni and subsequently delivered to Punjab officials at the Bawata border. Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman and Commandant Asad Chandia were present to receive them. Following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the bodies were sent to their hometowns, with district officials designated to facilitate the transfers.

The Balochistan Liberation Front, a prohibited separatist organisation, subsequently took responsibility for the murders. A spokesperson for the group stated that the roadway connecting Musakhail-Makhtar and Khajuri had been obstructed for the operation.

  • Passenger travelling from Lahore to Karachi accidentally sent to Jeddah

Passenger travelling from Lahore to Karachi accidentally sent to Jeddah

A passenger scheduled to fly from Lahore to Karachi on a domestic AirSial flight mistakenly boarded an international flight to Jeddah on July 7.

Malik Shahzain had been staying in Lahore for nearly a month to manage factory-related matters.

“I am Malik Shahzain. I had been staying in Lahore for around one month and was looking after some factory work. I booked a ticket on AirSial [for Karachi]. My flight was on 7th July at 10 AM.”

He stated that after arriving at the airport, he received his boarding pass and proceeded to his plane. At the same time, an international flight bound for Jeddah, carrying Umrah pilgrims, was also boarding.

“When I arrived at the airport, I collected my boarding pass. Another flight was boarding, headed to Jeddah carrying Umrah pilgrims. I mistakenly boarded that plane.”

According to Shahzain, he realised something was wrong two hours into the flight when the plane still had not landed.

“Two hours later, I began to wonder why the plane wasn’t landing. That’s when I found out I had boarded the wrong flight.”

He was still inside the plane when a team arrived and informed him that it had landed in Jeddah and would take him back to Lahore.

According to a media report, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) stated that senior officials had taken notice of the lapse and had written letters to the civil aviation regulator and the station manager.

“In the letter, the civil aviation regulator has been requested to impose a heavy fine on the airline that is guilty of negligence,” PAA spokesman Saifullah said.

The PAA statement, however, did not clarify how the passenger cleared immigration at the Lahore airport before boarding the Jeddah-bound flight.

Shahzain had originally booked AirSial flight PF146 from Lahore to Karachi on July 7 at 9:45 PM, according to his boarding pass. However, after returning from Jeddah, he eventually boarded flight PF144 to Karachi from Lahore on July 8 at 3:45 AM.

  • Family receives Humaira Asghar’s body, takes her to Lahore for burial

Family receives Humaira Asghar’s body, takes her to Lahore for burial

The body of model and actress Humaira Asghar has been handed over to her family almost four days after she was found dead in her apartment in Karachi. Her relatives have now left with her remains for Lahore.

SSP South Mahzoor Ali told the media that the family wanted to take Humaira’s body to Lahore, adding that they did not express any immediate doubts or suspicions about her death.

Humaira’s brother and other relatives first reached the SSP South office in Karachi and then went to the rescue service mortuary to complete the process of claiming her remains. Her younger brother Naveed Asghar told journalists, “Humaira was my younger sister. If a body is in police custody, then legal requirements must be completed.”

Naveed added, “We have been in touch with a welfare organization and the police since three days. We have now received my sister Humaira’s body.”

It may be recalled that on July 8, Humaira Asghar’s body was found in a flat in Defence Phase 6, Karachi. She had been living alone in this rented apartment for the past seven years after moving to Karachi from Lahore in 2018.

According to SSP South Mahzoor Ali, Humaira had not been paying rent since 2024. The owner of the flat had filed a case with the Clifton Cantonment Board, and when the bailiff arrived to vacate the premises, he found the door locked. After repeated knocks went unanswered, the door was broken open and Humaira’s body was found lying on the floor inside her room.

Digital investigations and circumstantial evidence has pointed towards the actress having died at some point in September or October 2024.

  • Father shoots dead Indian tennis player over gossip about living on her earnings

Father shoots dead Indian tennis player over gossip about living on her earnings

Radhika Yadav a 25-year-old national-level tennis player in India, has been shot dead by her father Deepak Yadav at their home in Gurugram on Thursday morning while she was preparing a meal for her mother’s birthday.

According to police, Deepak confessed that he killed his daughter because he could not handle villagers’ taunts that he was surviving on her income and gossip about her character. He told police he had asked Radhika several times to shut down her tennis academy, but she refused.

The incident happened around 10:30 am on the first floor of their house in Sector 57, Gurugram. Radhika’s mother Manju Yadav was resting in her room after developing a fever and said she only heard the gunshots. No one else knew Deepak would take such a step.

It was her mother’s birthday that day, and Radhika had gone into the kitchen to prepare something special when her father allegedly shot her three times from behind with his licensed .32 bore revolver. Her uncle Kuldeep Yadav and cousin Piyush, who live downstairs, rushed upstairs after hearing the shots and found Radhika lying in a pool of blood. They took her to Asia Maringo Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Radhika had represented the country in tennis at the national level and won several trophies. After suffering a shoulder injury, she left professional tennis and started an academy to coach young children.

Police found the revolver on the drawing room table with five empty shells and one live cartridge. Fingerprint experts collected samples from the crime scene, and the weapon was seized as evidence.

Radhika’s uncle Kuldeep said he never imagined such a tragedy could happen while emphasising that Deepak’s licensed revolver was known to the family. He said there were no clear signs that Deepak planned to harm his daughter.

Manju Yadav told police that her daughter had a good character and had never brought shame to the family. She said she did not know of any serious dispute between her husband and Radhika.

Gurugram police confirmed that Deepak Yadav confessed to the murder during on-the-spot questioning. A case has been registered under sections 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.

  • ‘We will not put Pakistan team at risk ‘; Rana Mashood on hockey players travelling to India

‘We will not put Pakistan team at risk ‘; Rana Mashood on hockey players travelling to India

Chairman of the Youth Program, Rana Mashhood, has clarified Pakistan’s participation in the Asia Cup Hockey Tournament, stating that the event will be held in India. The security situation, however, will be thoroughly reviewed before the team travels.

“If we are not satisfied, we will not put the Pakistan team at risk,” he stated.

Speaking to a private media outlet on Thursday, Rana Mashhood said, “Just like India failed in Operation Sindoor, our hockey team also wants to defeat India on their own soil.”

It merits mention that various social media accounts linked to India’s extremist organisation RSS have openly issued threats to the Pakistan hockey team. Indian media outlets have also started spreading hateful content against Pakistan.

According to reports, the Indian government had granted permission for the Pakistan hockey team to visit India, but within just two days, Indian media began its smear campaign.

Along with Indian media, accounts connected to RSS, which is closely associated with Prime Minister Modi’s BJP, have also been sharing threatening messages. Pictures of the Pakistan hockey team are being circulated online with direct threats aimed at the players.

The Asia Cup Hockey Tournament is scheduled to take place in India’s city of Rajgur from August 27. However, it remains unclear whether Pakistan will participate in it or if the event will be organised under a hybrid model, similar to the Pakistan-India cricket series.

  • Mike Hesson clears the air about Babar Azam’s role in team

Mike Hesson clears the air about Babar Azam’s role in team

Pakistan cricket head coach Mike Hesson has cleared the air about Babar Azam’s place in the team, dismissing rumours of a wicketkeeping role.

Earlier, reports claimed that the coach had offered Babar the wicketkeeping role. However, Hesson has clarified that there has been no discussion with him regarding wicketkeeping.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, he clarified, “We see him purely as an opener.” He added, “If Babar secures his place in the team, he will open the innings alongside either Saim Ayub or Fakhar Zaman.”

Hesson said, “No batter has been instructed to play with a strike rate of 150, but in modern-day cricket, playing with an aggressive approach has become essential.” According to him, “One major reason Pakistan lags behind in T20 cricket is its batting.”

The head coach added, “A training camp has been set up to prepare for the T20 format, focusing on different aspects of the game. This camp will continue for one week.”

Hesson also confirmed, “Hasan Ali will travel with the team to the West Indies, as he is currently playing very good cricket.” He said, “In the absence of frontline fast bowlers, other players have been tested, and those who meet the international standards will be given more opportunities.”

He stated, “Shaheen Shah Afridi will be given a complete chance to prove himself as he is a world-class bowler, and the team wants him to return stronger and perform well.”

Hesson further shared, “Haris Rauf is currently recovering from an injury but remains with the squad, while Salman Mirza has been included in the squad in place of Hasan Ali.”

Speaking about the selection process, the head coach said, “I myself am part of the selection committee. The committee initially selects 20 players, after which the captain and coach finalize a squad of 15 through mutual consultation. This final list is then sent to the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman for approval.”

Babar’s last recorded T20I appearance was against South Africa on December 13, 2024.

It merits mention that Babar Azam has not been selected in the 15‑member squad announced on July 8, 2025, for the upcoming three‑match T20I series in Bangladesh scheduled from July 20–24 in Dhaka.

Details of horrifying animal abuse case in Lahore

Lahore police are investigating the case of an influencer who has been accused of animal abuse after she posted photos showing animals lying in pools of blood.

The photos, shared via the account @dejaylazawal, showed a white rabbit lying in a pool of blood, seemingly dead. Screenshots circulating online also showed the influencer replying to questions about the act with explicit and violent language. Other photos showed animals imprisoned in small cages, including a black and white cat.

As the content spread online, citizens reported the account and notified authorities. ASP Shehrbano Naqvi confirmed that the DHA police reacted swiftly. The scene the police saw was described as extremely upsetting, with cigarettes, animal remains, and blood discovered at the location.

The girl was allegedly laughing when the officials arrived. Her father was reportedly trying to protect her from the police. Authorities suspect she may be experiencing mental health challenges but there has been no confirmed formal diagnosis.

ASP Naqvi indicated that the suspect had been posting images of brutally tortured animals, including cats and rabbits. She urged the public not to allow individuals dealing with mental health or addiction to keep pets and called on families and communities to remain watchful.

PARC (Pakistan Animal Rescue Center) has since moved the surviving animals to a secure shelter. Wild species found at the location are being sent to the Wildlife Department.

The police have verified that a First Information Report (FIR) will be filed. The influencer will be prohibited from possessing animals in her care.

ASP Shehrbano expressed gratitude to Anoshay, a citizen who helped unveil the case, and recognized her contributions to the rescue effort and raising awareness about the abuse. “Thank you for being a genuine person,” she stated. “Animal cruelty is not an isolated occurrence; it frequently leads to violence against vulnerable communities.”
