  • KP govt will not pass minerals bill till Imran Khan is released: Salman Raja

KP govt will not pass minerals bill till Imran Khan is released: Salman Raja

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja on Monday claimed that the Mines and Minerals Bill 2025 will not move forward in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly until former prime minister Imran Khan is released from prison.

Speaking on a private media channel, Raja said, “The bill has been debated, and there is a consensus within the party that it will not be passed unless Imran Khan is freed.”

He emphasised that the Mines and Minerals Bill 2017 is still in effect in KP, and work will continue according to it. “This is not the time for any fundamental change in the country,” Raja said.

Stressing the need to clarify the policy regarding minerals in the future, he said, “Two types of policy regarding minerals exist in the world: one is to dig out the rocks and ship them; the other is to refine the rocks and extract the mineral content. On the basis of that, establish the industry in the country.”

The Secretary General further stated that the party would present its own vision for the bill, emphasising that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is “constitutionally autonomous; we are not under the federal government.”

The Mines and Minerals Bill 2025 was tabled on March 4 in the KP Assembly after being approved by the provincial cabinet in February.

PTI has been divided over the bill. Previously, a heated debate reportedly took place between KP Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur and PTI Peshawar Region President Atif Khan in the PTI parliamentarians’ WhatsApp group.

Media reports claim that the disagreement began when Atif Khan advised PTI Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) in the group not to vote in favour of the bill, declaring it “against the interests of the people of KP.”

In response, Gandapur directly addressed Atif, asking, “Have you even read the bill? If you do not understand English, I will send you a copy in the Urdu version.”

Earlier, CM Gandapur, in a video statement, firmly rejected claims that the bill’s amendments were aimed at surrendering provincial authority to any other entity.

“The powers of the province cannot and will not be surrendered,” he said, adding that such claims were false, fabricated, and “appeared to be driven by personal vendettas.”

The KP CM further said that the proposed amendments were part of his government’s broader reform agenda aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in the minerals sector. “Vested interests are misrepresenting these reforms for their own benefit,” he added.

  • BCCI issues alert over suspected match-fixing threat in IPL

BCCI issues alert over suspected match-fixing threat in IPL

In the wake of growing concerns over potential match-fixing and illegal activities during the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a strong warning to all stakeholders involved in the tournament.

According to Indian media reports, the BCCI has warned IPL franchises about a possible threat posed by a businessman with alleged links to bookies. The individual, reportedly based in Hyderabad, is believed to have a history of involvement in corrupt practices and may attempt to befriend people associated with the league.

The Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of the IPL has taken the lead in this matter, issuing a formal warning to team owners, players, coaches, support staff, officials, and commentators. The ACSU fears that the businessman may attempt to lure individuals by offering expensive gifts, jewellery, and invitations to private parties.

The BCCI has directed all teams and personnel to remain cautious and report any form of contact or suspicious behaviour linked to the said individual. It has also been reported that this person has been seen around team hotels and match venues, raising further concerns about his intentions.

Furthermore, the ACSU has urged IPL participants to immediately report any attempt at forming a relationship or receiving gifts from this individual. His methods allegedly include gaining trust by offering lavish gifts and involving family members of team players and staff in social events.

The BCCI has reiterated the importance of upholding the integrity of the tournament and has assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty of breaching the league’s anti-corruption protocols. As the IPL progresses, the spotlight is now firmly on maintaining the sport’s sanctity and protecting it from external threats.

  • Indian board sacks three big names after dressing room leaks: reports

Indian board sacks three big names after dressing room leaks: reports

Following India’s 3-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, the Indian cricket dressing room has come under intense scrutiny — not only for the team’s on-field performance but also amid a string of off-field controversies. After the team’s poor performance under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, a series of leaked reports emerged from within the camp, raising questions about discipline and internal unity.

Among the many rumours that surfaced after the series, one particularly shocking claim was that a player had expressed interest in becoming interim captain. A report alleged that head coach Gautam Gambhir had blamed middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan for leaking dressing room conversations to the media, but the claim has not been officially verified.

Now, in a new twist, an Indian media outlet has reported that the BCCI has sacked assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, who joined the team only eight months ago. While there has been no official confirmation from the board yet, the move reportedly comes in response to the dressing room unrest and information leaks.

The same report also suggests that the BCCI has recently issued a notice stating that any support staff who have been with the national side for over three years could be relieved of their duties. Accordingly, fielding coach T. Dilip and trainer Soham Desai have also been removed from their roles.

In the wake of these changes, the BCCI has decided not to make fresh appointments for Nayar and Dilip’s positions. Instead, domestic cricket veteran Sitanshu Kotak will continue his involvement with the team. The responsibilities of strength and conditioning coach will now fall to South Africa’s Adrian Le Roux, who is currently associated with Punjab Kings in the IPL. Le Roux, who previously worked with Kolkata Knight Riders (2008–2019) and even had a short stint with Team India in 2002–03, is expected to join after the ongoing IPL season.

Meanwhile, head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed the ongoing unrest during a pre-match press conference, calling for internal matters to remain private. “Debates between coach and player should stay in the dressing room,” Gambhir said, downplaying the reports as mere speculation.

He further emphasised the importance of honesty and performance in team dynamics. “Indian cricket will be in safe hands as long as honest people remain in the dressing room. The only thing that keeps you in the setup is performance,” he stated.

Gambhir also reiterated the need for a “team-first” approach, insisting that while players can express themselves, they must adapt to the team’s needs when required.

As of now, fans await an official word from the BCCI, especially regarding the reported sacking of Abhishek Nayar and the reshuffling of the support staff.

  • ‘Every disease has a cure, but therapists tell you to pray instead of treating it,’ says Aina Asif

‘Every disease has a cure, but therapists tell you to pray instead of treating it,’ says Aina Asif

Rising star Aina Asif has highlighted a key issue about mental health, pointing out that while most illnesses are treated medically, people suffering from depression or psychological problems are often advised to pray rather than being offered professional help.

She appeared on Nida Yasir’s morning show alongside her co-stars Samar Jafri and Abul Hassan, where the young actors openly discussed mental health struggles among the younger generation.

“It’s true that the new generation seems to have more mental health problems, but the reason is that we understand everything very deeply,” Aina shared.

She said, “Just like we get anxious during exams, young people today face many different stresses because we’re aware of the problems and their seriousness.”

All three actors highlighted the importance of professional help for mental health.

Aina said, “Just like we treat physical diseases, mental health issues should also be treated.”

She emphasised on the importance of therapy and encouraged families to seek professional help: “Therapy is helpful. Every young person and their parents should go to a therapist.”

However, she also shared a concerning reality: “Unfortunately, even therapists sometimes tell patients to just pray instead of providing proper treatment.”

Aina, however, clarified that she values prayer deeply: “Prayer gives peace. Every Muslim should pray. It’s a very good practice.” But she encouraged seeking treatment alongside spiritual practices.

Young actor Abul Hassan echoed her views. “Just like we take medicine for a fever, mental health also requires proper treatment,” he said.

He added, “Islam encourages us to use the intelligence we’ve been blessed with. That means we should treat mental illness just like any other disease.”

Samar Jafri also believes that an increase in awareness is the reason why today’s youth seem more affected. “We’re more informed, and that awareness sometimes brings more anxiety,” he said.

Social media users praised the young actors for their mature and honest views. Many agreed that while prayer brings peace, it cannot replace medical treatment, and mental illness should be treated just like any other health issue.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez spark engagement rumours

Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez spark engagement rumours

Rumours about the engagement of world-renowned footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and his long-time partner Georgina Rodriguez have once again started making headlines.

The speculation began after Georgina shared a story on Instagram. The story featured a close-up shot of her hand, showcasing a beautiful diamond ring worn on the same finger typically associated with engagement rings.

Adding fuel to the rumours, the Instagram story was captioned in Arabic, which roughly translates to: “Protect us from the evil eye, Ameen.”

Cristiano Ronaldo, 40, and Georgina Rodriguez, 31, have been together since 2016. The couple has two daughters together — Alana Martina (born in 2017) and Bella Esmeralda (born in 2022). In total, Ronaldo is a father to five children: Cristiano Jr., twins Eva and Mateo, and the two daughters he shares with Georgina. Tragically, the couple lost their newborn son during childbirth in 2022, when Bella Esmeralda was born.

Georgina’s latest social media post comes just days after Cristiano appeared in a Netflix show where he opened up about why he hasn’t married Georgina yet, despite being in a long-term relationship and raising children together.

Ronaldo explained that he was waiting for the right moment to propose. “I’m waiting for the perfect time. Just like with other important things in life, when I feel the time is right, I will marry her. That time could come in a few days, weeks, months, or even years — and Georgina understands that well,” he said in the interview.

Following this interview, Georgina’s Instagram story has reignited rumours that the couple may have secretly gotten engaged.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time such speculation has surfaced. Back in 2022, similar engagement rumours made the rounds online when Georgina posted a photo flaunting a ring on the same finger.

As of now, neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Georgina Rodriguez has officially confirmed the engagement. However, the buzz surrounding the story has once again drawn attention to their relationship, leaving fans wondering if wedding bells might finally be on the horizon.

  • CM Maryam responds to criticism over Mayo MS firing

CM Maryam responds to criticism over Mayo MS firing

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz has responded to criticism over firing of Mayo Hospital’s medical superintendent (MS) during her surprise visit to the hospital last month, a video of which had gone viral and drawn mixed reaction from the public.

Addressing the first passing-out parade of the Environment Protection Force on Wednesday in Lahore, the Punjab CM said that after she fired the MS and the principal, the media was flooded with criticism against her action.

CM Maryam said that she herself deeply respected doctors who served their country, but could not let anyone burden poor patients.

“When I raided the hospital’s basement, there were boxes filled with medicines that doctors were telling patients to buy from outside the hospital,” she said, adding that patients were being forced to buy medicines from selected pharmacies outside the hospital.

“When I have reserved around Rs100 billion for free medicines for those seeking treatment at government hospitals, how dare anybody tell poor patients to buy costly medicines from outside?”

Last month, the provincial chief executive had received flak after she fired Mayo Hospital’s MS Dr Faisal Masood over “negligence” during her surprise hospital visit, which was caught on camera.

While some social media users had lauded the CM for swift action, others had criticised her for an “authoritarian” approach. Some users had taken to X (formerly Twitter), writing that it was “unethical behaviour” towards a respected doctor and “brazen disregard for institutional decorum”.

“The guy needs to be fired,” the video had shown CM Maryam telling the healthcare minister while pointing at the MS.

“You should be thankful that I am not having you arrested,” she had told the MS, alleging that he was also unaware of the patients’ condition at the hospital.

The action had come after patients and their attendants had reportedly complained to the provincial chief executive about the lack of facilities at the hospital.

  • ‘Actors post friendly videos, but reality is very different,’ says Naeema Butt

‘Actors post friendly videos, but reality is very different,’ says Naeema Butt

Renowned actress Naeema Butt, who played the bold character Rabab in Kabhi Mein, Kabhi Tum, has revealed that she dealt with fake friendships and double standards from her co-stars during the shoot.

While appearing on the comedy show Gap Shab, Naeema opened up about her personal experiences in the entertainment industry, especially the duplicity she noticed during the filming of the hit drama.

“I won’t speak about others, but I can share what I went through,” she said, claiming that most friendships in the showbiz world are just for show and only exist on social media.

“Actors often post friendly videos and pictures together online, but the reality is quite different.”

According to Naeema, during the shoot of Kabhi Mein, Kabhi Tum, “some co-stars who acted friendly on camera would change their behaviour once the camera stopped rolling.”

“At one point, I wasn’t even allowed to appear on stage with them after filming ended,” she recalled.

“There’s a lot I could say about what happened behind the scenes,” Naeema added, “but I’ve chosen to stay quiet.” She mentioned learning a life lesson from that experience that not every friendly gesture is genuine friendship.

Naeema added that the photos and videos taken with her on set were used to gain attention on social media. “They wanted to show the world that big stars are friendly with everyone,” she said, “but it was all for show.”

Although she didn’t name anyone, the prominent co-stars in the drama included Hania Aamir, Fahad Mustafa, Areej Chaudhry, Imad Irfani, Bushra Ansari, and Javed Sheikh. During the shooting, several behind-the-scenes videos and pictures of Naeema with Hania, Imad, and Fahad went viral. However, Naeema’s remarks now indicate that perhaps those viral moments were not as real as they seemed.

Pakistan qualify for ICC Women’s World Cup 2025

The Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team has officially qualified for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, which will be held later this year in India. The team secured its spot by finishing in the top two of the qualifying tournament held in Lahore, remaining unbeaten throughout the campaign.

Despite the tournament taking place in India, it has been confirmed that Pakistan’s matches will not be held in the host country. Instead, all of Pakistan’s World Cup fixtures will be played at a neutral venue outside India.

This will be the 13th edition of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, and the fourth time India will serve as host, following previous editions in 1978, 1997, and 2013. The tournament will be held from 29 September to 26 October and will be the last time the competition features just eight teams.

A total of 31 matches will be played, with defending champions Australia aiming for their eighth title after winning in 2022.

Pakistan defeated the West Indies by 65 runs in their final match, having earlier beaten Ireland by 38 runs and Scotland by six wickets. With three wins in three matches, Pakistan finished second on the points table with six points.

Bangladesh also qualified for the World Cup, topping the table with six points and a better net run rate than Pakistan. Both teams now look forward to competing on the world stage in one of the most anticipated women’s cricket tournaments.
