Shoaib Akhtar wants new PSL franchise named ‘Pindi Express’

Former Test cricketer and the world’s fastest bowler Shoaib Akhtar has called for a new franchise to be added to the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

During a recent appearance on the show Dugout, Akhtar responded to a fan’s interesting question: “If you were to play in the PSL, which franchise would you represent?”

Shoaib Akhtar replied, “I wouldn’t play for any franchise — I would make my own team, filled mostly with fast bowlers.”

He went on to say, “A new PSL franchise named ‘Pindi Express’ should be introduced.”

Akhtar explained that the team would focus on promoting top-quality fast bowlers.

“The cricket culture of this franchise would be about finding high-quality pacers. PSL should be recognized through its fast bowlers,” he said.

He added, “This city has produced great talent in a short time, and I believe it deserves to have its own team.”

Shoaib Akhtar has not played for any PSL team, as he had already retired from international cricket after the 2011 World Cup.

  • Did US delegation talk to govt about Imran? Ayaz Sadiq has the details

Did US delegation talk to govt about Imran? Ayaz Sadiq has the details

Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has shared details of his recent meeting with a three-member US Congressional delegation. The delegation arrived on Saturday on a weeklong visit to Pakistan.

Speaking to media in Islamabad today (Tuesday), Ayaz Sadiq, in response to a question asking whether the US delegation talked about meeting the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, said that the US delegation “did not even mention Imran Khan.”

“I can say with full confidence that as they [US delegation] were leaving, they categorically stated they have no connection to Pakistan’s internal politics,” the speaker of the National Assembly claimed.

Ayaz Sadiq further said that he had invited PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Malik Mohammad Amir Dogar to a dinner during the meeting with the US delegation, emphasising that it was an opportunity for PTI leaders to sit and talk with the Americans “from whom they seek help.”

Additionally, Ayaz Sadiq stated that no one can be forced to sit and talk about issues [between political parties]. “I had called Akhtar Mengal (Chief Balochistan National Party-Mengal)…. and was also in contact with Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s party (JUI-F),” he added.

Moreover, Ayaz Sadiq said that Turkiye has organized a conference on the ongoing situation in Gaza, where a few speakers have been invited. “I will attend the Gaza conference and present Pakistan’s stance,” he added.

He concluded by saying that as Pakistan speaks up for Kashmir, it is also raising its voice for Palestine, lamenting that children and women are being martyred in Palestine, and the Muslim Ummah has not played the role it should have.

  • Dr. Omer Adil sends ceiling fans to jail after incarceration stint

Dr. Omer Adil sends ceiling fans to jail after incarceration stint

Renowned surgeon Dr. Omer Adil has won hearts both inside and outside Lahore’s Camp Jail—thanks to a cool gesture during a very hot month.

In a Facebook post that quickly caught public attention, Dr. Omer shared a photo with a police officer, writing,“Donated 50 ceiling fans to Camp jail Lahore to provide relief to the inmates in the sweltering summer months ahead. This has been made possible due to Professor Shaheena Asif Choudhary and Nazia Imtiaz. May Allah bless them.”

While the act of kindness was clearly appreciated, social media users couldn’t help but sprinkle the comment section with a mix of praise, jokes, and… a little advice.

“These fans should be installed under your supervision, otherwise they may end up somewhere else,” one user warned, half-serious, half-joking.

Another added, “Very nice initiative—but keep an eye on it to make sure they’re used for the inmates!!!”
Others couldn’t resist wordplay, “I’m now your big fan hazoor-e-wala!”

    “You’re great, Dr. Sb. MashaAllah!”

Dr. Omer’s simple yet thoughtful contribution comes at a time when heatwaves are already putting vulnerable people—especially prisoners—at risk. His initiative, supported by Professor Shaheena and Nazia Imtiaz, highlights how small actions can bring big relief when temperatures rise.

He decided to donate the fans after personally experiencing the harsh conditions inside Camp Jail in 2024. That experience made him realise how difficult summers can be for inmates, and he wanted to offer some comfort to those still inside.

Dr Omer was sent to jail last year after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested him in a cybercrime case. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari had filed a complaint against him for using inappropriate and offensive language in a YouTube show titled “Ganda Aandaa.”

Another journalist, Ghareeda Farooqi, also filed a case against him. Initially, Dr Omer refused to apologise, but after his arrest and the legal proceedings, he eventually issued an unconditional apology. The court later granted him bail.

  • ‘Sell your car, donate to Palestine’; Sher Afzal tells Mufti Taqi

‘Sell your car, donate to Palestine’; Sher Afzal tells Mufti Taqi

Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Sher Afzal Marwat has advised renowned Islamic scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani to begin jihad from his own home, days after the scholar issued a fatwa calling for jihad against Israel in response to the ongoing atrocities in Gaza.

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad on Tuesday, Marwat said Mufti Taqi Usmani is obligated to initiate jihad personally. “He must sell his underused Mercedes to donate to Palestinians,” he added.

Earlier this week, during his address at the National Palestine Conference in Islamabad, Mufti Taqi declared that jihad for Gaza had become obligatory for Muslim states. He expressed disappointment over the lack of real support for Palestinian resistance fighters.

He criticised Muslim states for limiting their response to conferences and resolutions rather than taking concrete steps to defend the Al-Aqsa Mosque and assist Palestinian Mujahideen.

The former judge of the Federal Shariat Court condemned Israel’s actions during its devastating military onslaught in the Gaza Strip and supported a boycott of products to express solidarity with Palestine.

However, the scholar emphasised, “Islam is a religion of balance. It is not a religion of vandalising property or hurting someone by merely getting carried away by emotions.

“Therefore, pelting stones at someone or harming someone’s life and property is forbidden in Shariah. Do protest and boycott, but peacefully; there should be no element of unrest.”

Separately, footage of vandalism appeared online yesterday, showing a couple of individuals using abusive language and an intimidating tone while vandalising the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet located in the Saddar area of Rawalpindi.

Later, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Cantt police station by the manager of the Saddar branch, under sections 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), and others of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the FIR, the incident took place on Sunday, March 13, at 8:30pm. The complainant stated that while he was working as the branch manager, he heard a commotion. Upon exiting his office, he saw 10–12 individuals armed with sticks and rods, abusing other patrons and families in the restaurant while shouting slogans.

“When we tried to stop them, they abused us and continued to threaten us with violence. I am filing a petition against them. Action should be taken,” the FIR reads.

  • Nadia Hussain denies involvement in husband’s Rs540 million bank fraud

Nadia Hussain denies involvement in husband’s Rs540 million bank fraud

Renowned actress and model Nadia Hussain told the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) that she had no knowledge of any fraud involving her husband, Atif Khan, who is currently in FIA custody.

According to ARY News, Nadia gave her statement during a two-hour session with the FIA. She said her husband gave her money to start and expand her salon and spa business, but she never questioned where the money came from.

“I was never part of any fraud,” Nadia said.

She explained that her business is registered with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and the money received from her husband was shown as a loan in her tax returns.

The FIA questioned Nadia about money transfers between her husband’s accounts and those of her salon. Investigators believe she received Rs26.4 million from her husband’s accounts, which was used to run her two salons. These transfers reportedly occurred 19 times since 2019.

The FIA claims Atif Khan misused Rs540 million from the company he worked for, causing a total loss of Rs1.2 billion. He allegedly passed off business losses to the bank and used over Rs110 million for personal expenses.

Nadia’s statement has been added to the case file, and she has been named a major beneficiary in the investigation.

  • Celeb spaceflight garners little praise, sparks lots of criticism

Celeb spaceflight garners little praise, sparks lots of criticism

A group of famous faces soared to the edge of space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket on Monday morning, and while their flight was short, the internet’s reaction lasted all day.

Pop star Katy Perry, journalist Gayle King, Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez, and other accomplished women like Amanda Nguyen and Aisha Bowe were part of an all-female crew that flew at Mach 3 and experienced weightlessness before returning safely to Earth.

The moment was emotional for American host Oprah Winfrey, who watched her longtime friend Gayle King overcome her fear of flying and called the experience a powerful personal breakthrough.

Katy Perry described the journey as “one of the most meaningful experiences” of her life and even sang a classic tune in space to celebrate love and unity. She and Gayle King both kissed the ground after landing, overwhelmed with emotion.

While the celebrities basked in the glory of their milestone, X (formerly Twitter) users were quick to bring them back to Earth with sarcasm, memes, and plenty of jokes.

One user wrote, “Please stop calling them astronauts. That is SO insulting to the brave men and women that train for space flight. They were space tourists lol.”

Another added, “This is as silly as that forced girl power moment in Avengers Endgame.”

Environmental concerns were also raised. “Space tourism isn’t progress. It’s privilege with a jetpack,” said one user. “This is climate vandalism, dressed as innovation.”

Others questioned priorities: “If we can afford to send rich people to space for a 5-minute joy ride, we can afford to pay for school lunches and house our veterans,” one viral post read.

Some didn’t hold back at all, “Girl power? No, just PR power. Billionaires launching their friends for headlines,” one comment said.

  • Three police officials martyred, 16 wounded in IED blast in Mastung

Three police officials martyred, 16 wounded in IED blast in Mastung

Three police officials have been martyred, and at least 16 others have been wounded on Tuesday morning in a blast targeting a vehicle of the Balochistan Constabulary (FC) in Balochistan’s Mastung district.

In a statement, spokesperson of the Balochistan government Shahid Rind stated that a vehicle carrying policemen was targeted with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) when they were returning from Kalat.

“Three jawaan (personnel) of the Balochistan Constabulary were martyred in the blast,” the spokesperson confirmed, adding that 16 others were injured due to the blast, out of whom two were in a serious condition.

Rind stated that all injured cops have been shifted to a hospital, while those seriously injured were being taken to Quetta, about 50 kilometres away from Mastung. He added that an investigation report on the incident has been sought.

The FC officials were deployed at a sit-in by the Balochistan National Party Mengal (BNP-M), the spokesperson said.

Mastung Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Younas Magsi, however, put the number of injured people at 18.

Magsi said that the policemen were stationed as part of additional deployment with Levies in Mastung’s Kund Mas area, adding that more than 40 cops were returning from duty today when the police vehicle carrying them was targeted.

“On a daily basis, our policemen used to return to Mastung Police Lines after performing their duties,” the DSP said.

Chief Minister (CM) Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the blast, directing Health Minister Bakht Kakar to ensure that the injured were provided with the best medical treatment. “No negligence will be tolerated in the treatment of the injured,” Bugti said.

He affirmed that the provincial government stood with the martyrs. “The elements involved in the incident do not deserve any concession,” he asserted.

The incident happened a day after the FC checkpoint in the Galangoor area of Noshki came under attack. During the gun battle, an FC soldier embraced martyrdom.

As per media reports, armed militants used automatic weapons to attack the Levies post. However, the Levies personnel deployed at the post swiftly took strategic positions on the nearby mountain and returned fire.

“Due to their [security personnel’s] advantageous position, the terrorists couldn’t reach them, and the attack was effectively foiled,” Dawn News quoted a senior official of the Balochistan Levies as saying.

The FC troops deployed at the post returned fire, and in the ensuing exchange of fire, two terrorists were killed, a senior official of the Noshki administration said.

  • No record too difficult for 43-year-old Dhoni

No record too difficult for 43-year-old Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings’ veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mahendra Singh Dhoni, at the age of 43, made history during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 by becoming the oldest player to win the Player of the Match award in the tournament’s history.

On Monday, Chennai Super Kings secured their second win of the season by defeating Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in a thrilling encounter played in Lucknow.

After winning the toss, Chennai opted to bowl first. Lucknow Super Giants posted a total of 166 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, CSK chased down the target in the final over, largely thanks to Dhoni’s explosive cameo. The former Indian captain remained unbeaten on 26 runs off just 11 balls, smashing four boundaries and a six, finishing the match with his signature calmness. Alongside him, Shivam Dube also played a crucial role with an unbeaten 43 off 37 balls.

Apart from his batting heroics, Dhoni also contributed with the gloves, executing two stumpings and one run-out, earning him the Player of the Match award.

With this performance, Dhoni set a new record, becoming the oldest cricketer in IPL history to receive the Player of the Match award, as confirmed by Indian media outlets.

Surprisingly, Dhoni appeared modest after receiving the award. During the post-match presentation, he said, “I was wondering why I’m getting this award. Noor bowled really well – I think he deserved it more than me.”

Despite the win, Chennai Super Kings are still struggling this season. So far, they have played seven matches, out of which they have lost five and won two, placing them at the bottom of the points table with four points.

Nonetheless, Dhoni’s form and presence continue to be a source of inspiration for fans and teammates alike.
