Karachi court dismisses drug case against late Mustafa Amir

A local court in Karachi has dismissed a drug-related case against the late student Mustafa Amir following the submission of a statement of the Station House Officer (SHO) Anti Narcotic Force (ANF) Korangi, confirming his death.

The SHO informed the court that in the drug case, Mustafa Amir’s name was recorded as Amir, also known as (aka) Taimoor, son of Aamir Shuja, who had passed away.

The court dismissed the case against Amir after reviewing the death certificate and other relevant documents of the deceased, along with the statement of the SHO.

However, the court has once again issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for proclaimed offenders Ammar Hameed and Faisal Yaqoob in the same case.

On February 22, Amir’s arrest warrant was issued. The case against Amir and the other accused was registered in 2024. With his case is now closed, authorities continue efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.

On January 6, Mustafa Amir, 23, a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) student, went missing from Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

It took the police 39 days to determine that he had been murdered. His burned body was later discovered in Balochistan.

On February 8, an acquaintance of the victim, Armaghan, was apprehended after a dramatic four-hour standoff, during which he opened fire on police, injuring a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and a constable.

The case exposed links to an alleged drug network, particularly involving the cannabis trade, in which both the suspect and victim were reportedly engaged. The investigation led to a police crackdown, resulting in the arrest of several individuals, including renowned actor Sajid Hassan’s son, Sarim Hassan.

Speaking to reporters last month, Sajid Hassan expressed his grief over the incident, saying, “The murder is a heartbreaking tragedy, and I express my sympathy to Mustafa Amir’s family.”

“Since I heard Mustafa’s mother’s message, I have been unable to sleep. Mustafa was like my own son,” he said.

He emphasised that he wants justice for all those affected by the case, noting, “I only want justice to be done, not only for my son but for all the families connected to this case.”

Sajid Hassan also voiced his concerns over his son’s treatment by the media and the public. “My son has been declared guilty before the investigation is complete. I am not defending his actions, but I am only demanding a fair legal process,” he added.

  • Juvenile acquitted in honour killing case by Peshawar High Court

Juvenile acquitted in honour killing case by Peshawar High Court

The Peshawar High Court has overturned the life sentence of a juvenile convicted of killing his teenage sister in the name of honour.

The convict’s appeal was accepted by the court after his parents, also the legal heirs of the deceased teenaged victim, pardoned him.

The bench was convinced that the parties had reached a compromise without any pressure, force, coercion, or undue influence.

On 14 February 2023, the appellant was charged in an FIR registered at Charbagh police station in Swat under Section 302 (intentional murder) and Section 311 (Fasad Fil Arz or mischief on earth) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

On 15 May 2024, a juvenile court in Swat convicted him under Section 302 PPC, sentencing him to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs1 million, to be paid to the legal heirs of his deceased sister.

The trial court, however, did not apply Section 311 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) because the girl’s parents had not initially waived their right to Qisas. Consequently, the court ruled that Section 311 PPC was not relevant to the case.

According to the high court, Section 302 PPC is a compoundable offence, meaning it can be settled through compromise. However, Section 311 PPC, a non-compoundable offence, did not apply in this case. As a result, the appeal was accepted following a compromise.

The appellant’s representative, Advocate Saeed Khan, argued that while the deceased woman was married, she had already been divorced, which made her parents the sole legal heirs.

The victim’s parents appeared before the court and stated that they had pardoned their son, the appellant, in the name of Allah, waiving their right to Qisas and Diyat. They also clarified that they did not object to his acquittal.

    The Case

According to the complainant, Additional SHO of Charbagh Police Station, Shamsul Haq, they received information about the murder of a woman. Upon reaching the scene, they found her body on a cot.

The deceased, who was around 17 years old, had reportedly left home two years earlier with a man named Salman, whom she married. A case was registered against Salman, leading to his arrest, while the woman was sent to a shelter home. Later, she was released and returned to her parents’ house, where she was residing when she was divorced.

The complainant alleged that the appellant killed his sister in the name of honour by slitting her throat with a sharp-edged cutter.

As per the verdict, the trial court noted that in that region, a woman eloping or leaving her family’s home is deemed shameful and dishonourable.

“It is generally observed that females are done to death on the pretext or in the name of honour on the sole ground of elopement or desertion with a male,” the court remarked, according to Dawn.

The court concluded that since the deceased had indeed eloped, her killing within the accused’s home on the grounds of honour was plausible.

  • PTI to hold rally in solidarity with Pakistan army

PTI to hold rally in solidarity with Pakistan army

Days after security forces successfully carried out a rescue operation after last week’s Jaffar Express hijacking in the Bolan district of Balochistan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will hold a rally to express solidarity with martyred Pakistan army personnel and victims of the train attack, a leading English Newspaper reported on Sunday.

In a video statement, PTI Punjab’s Vice President Akmal Khan Bari, while condemning the attack, called it “an extreme act of brutality.” He added, “This was an attack on Pakistan, and we will never forget it.”

As per the media report, the rally is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, and will begin at the General Post Office (GPO) Chowk in Lahore and conclude at the Punjab Assembly.

PTI’s Punjab Vice President said, “We urge the Punjab government not to create any obstacles. This will be a peaceful rally to honour the martyrs of the Jaffer Express tragedy and the brave soldiers who lost their lives.”

Furthermore, he called on PTI workers, lawyers, and civil society members to join in great numbers.

The party believes that a strong turnout will send a clear message of unity and support for the nation’s armed forces. “This is not just about PTI. It’s about Pakistan and its people standing together,” Bari said.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) chief Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry last week announced that the Bolan Green rescue operation was successfully completed after nearly 30 hours as all attackers were eliminated and hostages freed.

Speaking to a private news channel, Chaudhry confirmed that the complex operation had been completed by units from the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Special Services Group (SSG), army and Frontier Corps (FC).

He said that all 33 terrorists had been killed while confirming that no passenger was harmed during the clearance operation. However, he added that before the clearance operation, 21 passengers were martyred by the terrorists.

At least four FC soldiers were also martyred during an exchange of fire, he said.

The attack, the most brazen one carried out by the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) to date, began on Tuesday afternoon when terrorists attacked the train near the Mashkaf tunnel, about 150 kilometres out of Quetta, taking hostage all 400 passengers on board.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, a security forces convoy in Nushki district of Balochistan came under attack when a vehicle-borne suicide bomber attacked it, leaving three Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers and two civilians martyred, said the ISPR.

“In the ensuing sanitisation operation, the terrorists were pursued, and after [an] intense fire exchange, three terrorists were effectively neutralised by the security forces,” said the military media wing.

  • French politician wants America to return Statue of Liberty

French politician wants America to return Statue of Liberty

French MEP Raphaël Glucksmann has urged the United States to return the Statue of Liberty, asserting that recent U.S. actions are at odds with the values represented by the iconic monument. Speaking at an event for his center-left party Place Publique, Glucksmann criticized President Donald Trump’s administration for aligning with authoritarian governments and ignoring researchers advocating for scientific independence.

“We will inform the Americans who have chosen to support tyrants and have disregarded researchers fighting for scientific liberty: ‘Return the Statue of Liberty,’” Glucksmann stated to a receptive crowd. “We gifted it to you, but it seems you now disregard its significance. It would be better off back home.”

The Statue of Liberty, created by French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi, was inaugurated in New York Harbor on October 28, 1886, as a centennial present celebrating the American Declaration of Independence. A smaller version can be found on the Seine River in Paris.

A staunch supporter of Ukraine, Glucksmann has openly criticized President Trump’s changes in policy regarding the conflict. He also denounced the administration’s cuts to research funding, which has prompted the French government to initiate efforts to attract affected scientists to France.

“Moreover, we tell the Americans: if you decide to disregard your top researchers—those whose freedom, innovation, and critical thinking have driven your nation to a position of global prominence—we are prepared to welcome them,” Glucksmann continued.

Since President Trump returned to the White House in January, his administration has lowered federal funding for research and aimed to dismiss numerous federal employees working in the health and climate sectors.

  • Sara Khan’s claim that brand is ‘affordable’ prompts backlash

Sara Khan’s claim that brand is ‘affordable’ prompts backlash

Renowned actress Sara Khan is facing criticism after describing her clothing brand as ‘affordable.

Sara recently launched her clothing brand, Aliyana Falak, named after her daughter, and promoted it during an appearance on a private TV morning show alongside her.

During the show, she stated that her brand was within the reach of the general public. However, her remark sparked backlash, with social media users accusing her of being out of touch with reality.

Many digital influencers and Instagram pages criticised her claim, arguing that the prices of her clothing line are far beyond the reach of the general public.

Users flooded social media with sarcastic comments. One person wrote, “She is indirectly calling us poor!” while another said, “After listening to Sara Khan, I’ve started to realize my poverty even more.”

Adding to the controversy, an Instagram user shared a video showing a picture of an unstitched three-piece dress from Sara Khan’s brand, priced at 20,000 rupees. The video further fuelled the criticism, with users questioning how such prices could be considered “affordable.”

Despite the ongoing backlash, the actress has not yet responded to the criticism. However, the debate over her statement continues to trend on social media.

The first incident occurred at the Khyber Jamrud Bypass checkpoint, where militants launched an attack. However, the security forces’ prompt and forceful response forced the perpetrators to flee in an injured condition.

During the exchange of gunfire, two soldiers sustained injuries and were immediately taken to hospital for treatment. A thorough search operation is currently underway as security forces continue to secure the area and track down the fleeing terrorists.

These attacks followed multiple terrorist incidents in the districts of Karak and Peshawar a day prior. Late at night, terrorists targeted a Sui Gas office, a checkpoint, and two police stations. A security guard and a sub-inspector lost their lives in these coordinated assaults, while several others were wounded.

  • ‘I don’t even pay attention’; Danish Taimoor dismisses criticism on his roles

‘I don’t even pay attention’; Danish Taimoor dismisses criticism on his roles

Pakistani actor and host Danish Taimoor has recently spoken out about the criticism that celebrities often face, making it clear that he remains unfazed by online critiques. In a conversation during his Ramzan show Mehfil-e-Ramzan on Green TV, Adnan Faisal inquired about how he handles ongoing criticism.

Danish, recognised for his straightforward demeanour, responded with conviction, stating, “I don’t even pay attention to them [critics]. It’s their job; they do it for attention. I genuinely don’t care, and believe me, my fans don’t care either.”

What was particularly noteworthy was his deeper perspective on the validity of critiques. While he acknowledged that criticism is part of the entertainment industry, he questioned whether every opinion is deserving of attention. He further explained, “I’ve been a part of this industry for 18 years. I began acting in 2008, so I understand the entire system—how things function behind the scenes, the obstacles actors encounter, and the dedication that goes into our craft.”

Danish suggested that critiques should stem from a place of knowledge rather than mere observation. He remarked, “When I criticise something, I do so with a comprehensive understanding of how this industry works. But if someone without a background in acting picks apart performances, how does that make any sense?”

His comments have ignited a lively discussion on social media. Many pointed out that actors themselves often weigh in on topics ranging from fashion to sports and politics, yet they seem to take issue when viewers critique them.

Others noted that Danish has faced criticism for opting for similar roles in dramas, which they deem a legitimate concern. Nonetheless, some supporters defended him, arguing that he is correct—criticism should be contextualised and rooted in understanding rather than made simply for engagement.
