‘Speaking English is not a matter of pride’; Javeria Saud defends Sarfaraz Ahmed

Actress Javeria Saud strongly defended former Pakistan cricket captain Sarfaraz Ahmed after a caller questioned his English-speaking skills during a recent episode of Express TV’s Piyara Ramazan.

A caller from Karachi asked Sarfaraz why he seemed nervous during interviews in English, saying, “I’ve seen several of your interviews where you look uncomfortable speaking English.”

Sarfaraz responded with a laugh, saying, “Everyone gets nervous in front of the camera and sometimes forgets their words. We play cricket and are used to speaking in our native language, so it can be difficult to speak in another language.”

Javeria Saud then joined the conversation, adding, “We are Pakistanis, and even I get nervous. Our national tongue is Urdu. We should focus on learning Urdu properly first because we often make mistakes in it too.”

She continued, “Speaking English is not a matter of pride. In countries like Spain, Italy, China, and Japan, people often prefer to speak in their own language rather than English.”

Javeria urged people to take pride in their culture and language, saying, “The problem is, we try to imitate others and forget our values. Instead of asking such questions, we should support our heroes and encourage them.”

  • Nauman Ijaz’s blunt take on Pakistanis in Ramzan sparks debate

Nauman Ijaz’s blunt take on Pakistanis in Ramzan sparks debate

Veteran actor Nauman Ijaz, known for his unfiltered opinions, has once again sparked controversy with his latest remarks on the behaviour of Pakistanis during Ramzan. In a candid YouTube video with fellow actor Syed Jibran, he openly criticised their attitude throughout the holy month.

“Ramzan came, but not for Pakistanis,” he stated in a now-viral video. He elaborated on how people fast yet struggle with patience, losing their temper over minor inconveniences.

“People fast, but they cannot tolerate anything. They shout insults, don’t stop at traffic lights, and get envious if someone crosses the street on a green signal, even when its their turn next,” he added.

The seasoned actor highlighted the irony that, despite Ramzan being a time for self-improvement, Pakistanis often exhibit their worst behaviour during this month. “We aren’t exactly saints for the rest of the 11 months either, but the one month meant for self-discipline is when we completely lose control.”

Syed Jibran, sitting beside him, nodded in agreement, visibly supporting Ijaz’s critique.

The casual setting of their conversation, with Nauman Ijaz resting his head on Jibran’s shoulder, only added fuel to the fire. The internet erupted with mixed reactions as some appreciated his honesty, while others questioned his state.

“Is he drunk?” one user speculated, while another commented, “Why is he talking like this? He must be drunk or something.”

However, a fan came to his defense, saying, “This is just how Nauman Ijaz speaks. He is brutally honest, and people just can’t handle it.”

Passenger nabbed at airport with heroin concealed inside soap

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has successfully seized heroin concealed within soap from the luggage of a passenger traveling to Saudi Arabia from Lahore.

During the operation at Lahore International Airport, ANF investigators found 470 grams of heroin hidden in soap bars in the passenger’s trolley luggage.

The ANF successfully collected 80.470 kg of different drugs, valued at over 10 million rupees, as part of a bigger series of operations. Seven suspects were taken into custody as a result of these operations.

In another incident in Rawalpindi, 150 tins containing 52.5 kg of hashish were discovered when the ANF arrested a suspect near a bus stop.

The ANF searched a car and a flat in Bahria Town in Rawalpindi, after conducting more investigation and using the information provided by the arrested suspect.

In another operation in district Kasur, four suspects were caught in possession of 9.6 kilograms of opium and two kilograms of ice near a petrol pump on Deepalpur Road.

The ANF also recovered six kilograms of opium and 2.4 kilograms of hashish from a suspect near Sheranwala Gate in Lahore.
This resulted in the recovery of an additional 7.5 kilograms of hashish, dealing a serious blow to drug trafficking in the area.

Charges under the Anti-Narcotics Act have been filed against each of the detained individuals, while inquiries are being conducted to learn more about their activities and relationships.

  • Kashmiris reject dates imported from Israel

Kashmiris reject dates imported from Israel

Dry fruit stores in the center of Srinagar are bustling as consumers seek out a variety of dates, with many specifically inquiring about the quality of the fruit, an international media outlet’s report has stated.

Madinah dates, which are known for their unique variety, are especially popular because of their flavor and texture.

Some sellers have started to source their dates more meticulously as Ramazan draws near, particularly when it comes to dates that are imported from Israel.

Due to the widespread boycott of Israeli goods brought on by the ongoing genocide in Gaza and occupation of Lebanon, retailers have been compelled to reconsider their supply chains and make sure their products reflect local opinions.

Dates are now widely available in Srinagar, with some dry fruit stores carrying up to 15 distinct types. Due to their unique flavor and quality, Saudi Arabian dates are one of the most common choices for customers looking for variety. As customers get more selective, there is a steady rise in demand for these dates.

Some retailers have decided to support the Palestinian cause by refusing to sell Israeli dates this year in response to the growing concern around their origins. Those who wish to show solidarity with Palestine in these trying times regard this choice as a modest but significant gesture.

Israel grows dates in occupied territories, especially Medjools.  Israel exported more than 57,000 metric tons of dried and fresh dates in 2023, valued at over $272.7 million USD.

But the current state of affairs has raised origin awareness and increased consumer caution.
Numerous Islamic organizations have provided online resources that explain the history of dates available to customers so they may make educated decisions.

Transparency and public education on the origin of these items are the primary objectives of these efforts. Since some people are intentionally avoiding Israeli dates, several dealers stress the significance of honesty, making sure that customers are completely informed of where their dates originate from.

This growing awareness has led to more cautious and informed decisions by consumers across the region.

  • Varun Chakravarthy trolls critics of ICC’s favouritism for India

Varun Chakravarthy trolls critics of ICC’s favouritism for India

India ended their long wait for an ICC ODI title in style, securing the Champions Trophy 2025 with a thrilling four-wicket victory over New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday. While the win was widely celebrated, it was Varun Chakravarthy’s social media post that sparked a new debate.

The Indian spinner, who played a key role in the triumph, took to Instagram after the victory, sharing a picture of himself sipping coffee beside the Champions Trophy. His caption,  “A lot of distance was travelled to get a taste of this Cup,” was seen as a subtle response to critics who accused India of benefiting from a favourable tournament schedule.

Chakravarthy’s post quickly gained attention, not just for its apparent nod to the scheduling controversy but also because some believed it was aimed at Pakistan’s spinner Abrar Ahmed. Before Ramzan, Abrar had shared a post enjoying tea, captioned: “Having the last cup of FANTASTIC evening TEA before Ramadan begins.”

Given the intense India-Pakistan cricket rivalry, fans speculated whether Chakravarthy’s post was a cheeky reply to Abrar’s earlier tea reference. However, the Indian spinner did not mention any names, leaving room for interpretation.

Meanwhile, the tournament’s scheduling controversy remained a hot topic.

Several teams, including New Zealand and South Africa, raised concerns over excessive travel impacting player fatigue and performance. A Tribune report revealed that New Zealand covered the most distance—7,048 km—travelling between Karachi, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Dubai, while South Africa also endured a tough 3,286 km journey. In contrast, India played all their matches in Dubai, avoiding the travel burden faced by other teams.

Despite the debate, India’s on-field performance was dominant. Varun Chakravarthy was among the tournament’s standout bowlers, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker alongside Mohammed Shami with nine wickets. His best performance came against New Zealand in the group stage, where he claimed a five-wicket haul. In the final, his spell of 2-45, including the key wicket of Will Young, helped restrict New Zealand to 254 runs, setting the stage for India’s successful chase.

‘I walked out of Nadir Ali’s podcast’; Nadia Khan on podcaster’s inappropriate questions

TV host and actress Nadia Khan recalled walking out of a YouTuber’s podcast after being repeatedly asked inappropriate questions.

She recently appeared on 365 News’ Ramzan program, where she openly discussed various issues.

During the show, she advised actors to be cautious when attending podcasts, warning that hosts often try to “trap” guests with controversial questions to generate views.

Recalling her own experience, she said, “A YouTuber tried to trap me, but I took timely action.”

Without naming the host, she revealed that during her appearance on the podcast, she was repeatedly asked inappropriate questions, which led her to walk out.

“I left the podcast and refused to continue recording,” she shared, adding that the host later apologised.

“He assured me that he wouldn’t ask any more inappropriate questions, after which I resumed the recording,” she added.

Emphasising the importance of taking a stand, she urged fellow actors to do the same when faced with uncomfortable situations.

“The YouTuber only wanted views, but I wanted respect as an actress and to protect my career, so I made the right decision,” she asserted.

Nadia Khan did not name the podcast host, but when interviewer Zhalay Sarhadi asked, “Was it the same YouTuber who asked Sunita Marshall an inappropriate question?” she confirmed.

The YouTuber in question was Nader Ali, a well-known YouTuber and podcast host.

Nadia Khan appeared on Nader Ali’s podcast in February 2023.

  • ‘Don’t be sorry’: Jonty Rhodes hails Glenn Phillips as best fielder

‘Don’t be sorry’: Jonty Rhodes hails Glenn Phillips as best fielder

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 may have ended with India winning the tournament but New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips stole the spotlight with a sensational catch to dismiss Shubman Gill. As Gill attempted to loft the ball over the cover fielder, Phillips reacted instantly, plucking the ball out of thin air in a moment of sheer brilliance.

The jaw-dropping catch quickly went viral, sparking debates about Phillips’ exceptional fielding skills. A fan even hailed him as the best fielder of this generation, apologizing to legendary fielder Jonty Rhodes in the process.

“Sorry @JontyRhodes8, we believe Phillips is the best fielder of this generation,” a fan posted on X (formerly Twitter).

To everyone’s surprise, Rhodes himself agreed, responding: “Don’t be sorry, I agree.”

Phillips had also made a stunning catch earlier in the tournament, dismissing Virat Kohli in the final group-stage game and leaving the Indian star visibly stunned.

Despite New Zealand’s loss in the final, captain Mitchell Santner couldn’t help but admire Phillips’ fielding brilliance. “He keeps doing it, doesn’t he,” Santner mused with a smile.

Reflecting on the match, Santner credited India’s strong start, particularly Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s aggressive powerplay performance. “Rohit’s innings were outstanding; there was almost a run-a-ball on that wicket, and it put us on the back foot. But we knew the game could change quickly, so we kept fighting,” he said.

India and New Zealand have faced off multiple times in ICC events, with the Kiwis historically holding the upper hand. However, this time, it was Rohit Sharma’s team that claimed the ultimate victory.

England batter Harry Brook has withdrawn from the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 to focus on international cricket.
