Woman raped at fake job interview

A single mother from Rawalpindi was allegedly raped by two men at gunpoint, the local police reported on Sunday.

The woman was reportedly lured to a commercial building on Rawalpindi’s Double Road by the two suspects, who used her co-worker to make their pretext of offering her a good job believable.

Media reports suggest that when the alleged victim approached the New Town police to file a complaint against the suspects, she was reportedly pressured to reconcile with them.

She then turned to social media, and a video statement of the victim surfaced online, in which she alleged harassment by police officials at the New Town police station.

Following the video release, the City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani intervened and registered the case.

According to the police report, the victim lived with her parents after a divorce and worked at a call centre to support herself and raise her child.

She received a call from her female colleague on January 14, asking her to come to a commercial building on Double Road, promising her a better job opportunity.

The victim told the police that upon reaching the location, she found two unknown men there. She alleged that they raped her at gunpoint, filmed the crime, and threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone.

Earlier, on January 1, a similar incident was reported in Bahawalpur, where a girl was allegedly subjected to sexual assault for several days at different locations.

Details reveal that a gang of three men from Burewala allegedly lured the daughter of a brick kiln worker with promises of a job and took her to a house in the city, where two of them gang-raped her over several days.

The suspects held the victim captive, later taking her to Dera Ghazi Khan, where they continued to abuse her.

The victim managed to escape after 25 days and returned home, after which the matter was reported to the police.

Crimes against women facing difficult circumstances are alarmingly high in the country.

  • 7yo missing Karachi kid found dead after 11 days

7yo missing Karachi kid found dead after 11 days

Seven-year-old Sarim, a child who went missing from North Karachi on January 7, has been found after 11 days.

The SSP Central, in a statement on Saturday, said that the body of the minor boy was found in an underground water tank near his home in Karachi’s North Karachi area.

The child’s body was recovered from a water tank covered with makeshift cardboard, raising questions about the circumstances of his death.

However, the police official stated that it appears the incident occurred accidentally. For further clarification, the body has been sent for a postmortem, and the report is awaited.

A private news channel reported that the child went missing nearly two weeks ago, leading to extensive investigation by the police and family members.

He was a student at Madrasah Al Quran and had gone to his seminary on January 7 but never returned.

The child’s father, Parvez, went to the seminary to ask about his son but was told by the administration that his son had left for home at 3:40 pm.

As the father was returning from the seminary, he spotted Sarim’s gloves lying on the stairs inside the mosque.

Reportedly, Sarim’s parents received a ransom message demanding Rs. 500,000.

The police were unable to determine the child’s whereabouts until last week. Additionally, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori visited the child’s house to express his support and assured the parents of full cooperation in the recovery of the child.

The police stated that they are investigating possible foul play or assault in the case.

Residents of Sarim’s neighbourhood expressed shock over his recovery, stating that law enforcement had checked the tank twice during the search but failed to find any sign of the child. Some speculated that the child’s body may have remained submerged and surfaced over time.

Sarim’s parents were devastated after seeing his body.

  • Attack on aid convoy claims nine lives in Kurram

Attack on aid convoy claims nine lives in Kurram

The crisis in Kurram is lingering on after a recent attack on an aid convoy claimed the lives of two security personnel and seven drivers.

The local police said that apart from the two security officials, three drivers were also killed in the terrorist attack. Additionally, the bodies of four of the five drivers who went missing were later found, taking the total number of martyred drivers to seven.

Local traders reported that after Thursday’s attack, the trucks were looted and set on fire by miscreants.

Earlier, it was reported that one officer was martyred in the terrorist attack on a convoy going to Kurram, while six attackers were killed and ten injured in the retaliatory operation of the security forces.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Shaukat Ali said in a statement that three vehicles in the convoy were damaged in the attack. This was reportedly the first phase of the third convoy in which a freight of 35 vehicles was sent. The aid included medicines, vegetables, fruits and other essential items.

Assistant Commissioner Hangu Manan Saeed told the media that the incident took place in the Bagan area, where the vehicles were attacked with rockets and automatic weapons on the way to Kurram.

After the attack, rival factions of Talo Kunj and Badshah Kot and Chardeval, Jalmay, Irfani and Alizai were entrenched against each other, raising fears that the incident could re-trigger sectarian clashes across the Kurram district.

Later, two gunship helicopters also reached Bagan.

Dawn quotes security sources as saying, “Reportedly, militants have burnt seven loaded vehicles and also diverted few vehicles of convoy to Jarhani area (Lower Kurram near Bagan) for unloading.”

Another 15 trucks, which were looted, returned to  Thall town from where they started the journey while only one vehicle still loaded with goods managed to reach safely.”

Notably, a heavy contingent of police, FC and security personnel were deployed for the security of the convoy.

After the terrorist incident, the second aid convoy going to Parachinar was halted and sent back.

It merits mentioning that members of a Grand Jirga recently negotiated a peace accord on the first day of the new year, but the situation on the ground is far from normal.

This was the third aid convoy being sent to Parachinar after the second one came under attack.

The first convoy reached Parachinar on January 8 while the rest remained stuck on the Hangu-Kurram border for several days post a January 4 attack that left deputy commissioner Kurram Javedullah Mehsud and six others wounded by gunshots.

Former MNA Pir Haider Ali Shah and others condemned the incident and reminded the government of its promise made at the time of the peace agreement to open roads and take immediate action in the event of attacks to establish a long-lasting peace.

Lahore doctor arrested for firing at school buses

A grade-19 doctor accused of opening fire on two school buses in Lahore’s Cantonment area was arrested on Thursday morning.

The police say that at the time of the incident, one of the buses was carrying students.

The accused doctor has been identified as Dr Zulqernain Butt, who is reportedly serving as a senior consultant in the anaesthesia department of Services Hospital.

The initial investigation suggests that after the firing incident, the suspect picked up his children from home, dropped them at their school, and went straight to a private hospital located on Ferozepur Road, where he was doing a part-time job.

Initially, it was reported by a private media outlet that bullets were fired at a school bus in Lahore. However, no casualty or injury was reported as the students were not on board the vehicle.

The same report stated that shots were fired by a car rider who got annoyed at the school bus driver for blocking his way.

He fired two bullets at the bus in the South Garrison area of Lahore.

The police report also said that the incident was a result of a tiff between the two drivers.

A police team started conducting raids and successfully traced the suspect. The team recovered a 9mm pistol used in the shooting from a locker in the private hospital. It was reported that the suspect allegedly has a reputation for aggressive behaviour and unprovoked violence over minor inconveniences.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), a case has been registered against Dr. Butt under charges of anti-terrorism and attempted murder.

As per the details, the school buses were driving down Waqas Market on Bedian Road to pick up children. Meanwhile, a bus driver slowed down to take a U-turn while the suspect was repeatedly trying to overtake. This caused a collision between the car and the bus.

The driver, upset, took out a pistol and fired indiscriminately.

One of the bullets struck a bus tyre, and when the bus driver tried to confront him, the suspect allegedly fled the scene.

The driver informed the school administration, who then alerted law enforcement agencies (LEAs).

Only a few hours later, the police located and arrested the suspect.
