Television and film actor Rana Aftab died Monday morning after unknown gunmen opened fire on his vehicle outside his residence in a private housing society in Lahore. He was 63.

The attack occurred around 8:40 am when Aftab left his home. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by his wife Huma Aftab, three to four unidentified men in a golden Corolla blocked his vehicle at the gate.

One attacker exited the car and fired multiple rounds with a Kalashnikov-type weapon at Aftab’s vehicle.

Huma’s brothers Khurram Munsha and Faisal witnessed the attack after hearing the gunfire. The assailants fled through the One Way Society main gate after the shooting.

  • Celebrities speak out on devastating Karachi Gul Plaza fire tragedy

Celebrities speak out on devastating Karachi Gul Plaza fire tragedy

Pakistani celebrities have taken to social media to express grief and anger following the deadly fire at Gul Plaza in Karachi on Saturday, which has claimed at least 14 lives, including a firefighter, with dozens still missing.

Actress Aiman Khan shared her heartbreak on Instagram Stories, writing, “I am heartbroken by the Gul Plaza incident. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones.”

Her sister, actress Minal Khan, penned a lengthy note reflecting on Karachi’s systemic failures.

“Karachi is a strange orphan – loved in words, abandoned in action. It has too many guardians and none that truly care,” she wrote. “A mayor, ministers, boards, administrators – everyone in charge, yet no one responsible. This is the provincial capital, the economic spine of the country, and still it is treated like a burden neither the province nor the center wants to claim. When tragedy strikes, fingers are pointed, statements are issued, and then silence returns.”

She described the personal connection many Karachiites have with Gul Plaza. “Gul Plaza was never just a building. It lives inside every Karachite’s home. The toys we played with as children, the plates we still eat from, the everyday things that quietly shaped our lives – so many of them came from there. Watching it burn feels like watching a piece of our own childhood, our own memories, turn to ash.”

Minal concluded with a stark warning: “This wasn’t just a fire. It was a reminder – painful and unforgiving – of what happens when a society becomes numb, when safety becomes optional, when human life becomes a statistic. We mourn the dead, but we must also mourn ourselves, because somewhere along the way, we all failed them.”

Actress Rabia Kulsoom and her husband wrote, “Deeply saddened by the fire incident at Gul Plaza Karachi. Prayers for all the victims and their families. May Allah give them and all the shop owners the strength to overcome this loss.”

Sajal Aly expressed her sorrow, saying, “Heartbroken to see what happened at Gul Plaza. My prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones no words are enough for such loss.” Her sister Saboor Aly simply wrote, “Allah Reham.”

Model and host Nadia Hussain shared haunting images and video clips from the site, showing ashes and debris scattered across the burned building.

“This unbelievable, horrific tragedy has left all Karachiites in utter despair, grief, and complete shock,” she wrote. “A fire could not be put out in time that caused the deaths of so many people and losses worth crores and crores. Where were the proper firefighting trucks? Why was the fire burning for more than 24 hours?”

Cricketer Haris Rauf highlighted the broader systemic issues exposed by the tragedy. “The tragedy exposed our collective failure to protect lives. Inadequate fire safety, delayed rescue, and a system that failed its people! The cost? Precious lives, lost. Families torn apart. Dreams unfulfilled. The helplessness is suffocating. How many more lives will it take for us to act? For us to care? The grief is overwhelming, the anger is justified,” he wrote.

The blaze broke out at one of Karachi’s oldest shopping malls on MA Jinnah Road on Saturday night, January 17, 2026, and continued burning for more than 24 hours.

  • Saba Qamar turns Muamma into a slow-burn obsession

Saba Qamar turns Muamma into a slow-burn obsession

Eight episodes in, Muamma is a suspenseful thriller that revolves around the versatility that is Saba Qamar’s acting. It’s a series that will keep you guessing, and you can almost feel the drag coming on and then it speeds back up.

Muamma is the story of Jahan Ara (Saba Qamar) who rents out a portion of her house to married couples. She gets close to the husbands, coyishly flirting with them, getting close to the wives and the best part: she has a secret window into their lounge where she can watch them and they can’t see her. She becomes part of their lives and they don’t even know it.

The drama opens with Jahan Ara’s first hit, Zeeshan (Nabeel Zuberi) who is her tenant and in a stupor, declares his love for Jahan Ara in front of his pregnant wife and neighbours. The marriage ends in divorce and a new couple moves in and Jahan Ara’s next target.

The drama highlights how every betrayal starts with a lie. Jahan Ara lies to her tenants to get close to the men, they lie to their wives to stay in Jahan Ara’s presence and the lies wrap up happy marriages and then ultimately tear them apart. And it’s reflective of Jahan Ara’s (also known as Gigi in the show) marriage. She loves another (we know that the love of her life will be played by Usman Mukhtar) and marries a brutal man instead. The void in her life is filled by creating trouble for others, almost like she wants everyone to suffer just as she did. She lands in the lives of the wives as their saviour, listening to them, helping them, taking care of them, all the while she’s tearing them apart and watching them as it all breaks down.

It will be interesting to see how the drama develops and the twists it is bound to take as we meet Jahan Ara’s husband who is in jail and find out how he got there. It’s all going to be unveiled and it’s a treat to watch as it gets there.

  • Nikah conditions: Hina Afridi seeks Rs500,000 monthly maintenance, business-class travel from Taimur Akbar

Nikah conditions: Hina Afridi seeks Rs500,000 monthly maintenance, business-class travel from Taimur Akbar

Pakistani actor Hina Afridi and social media personality Taimur Akbar have tied the knot, with their wedding pictures and videos going viral on social media.

The actress wore a white outfit for her nikah ceremony, which she paired with heavy gold jewellery that stood out prominently in the photographs.

While wedding pictures continue to circulate online, a video from the couple’s Nikah ceremony has caught significant attention.

The clip showed Afridi making rather interesting demands from her husband, asking Akbar for a monthly allowance of Rs500,000 and business-class travel every six months.

She also said that her husband will bear all shopping expenses, including designer clothes, and that she will not spend any money from her own pocket; all of which Akbar agreed to.

Reacting to the video, one user wrote, “This is too cute stay blessed,” while another commented, “Maray pasay b maray..ap k pasay b maray [my money is mine… your money is also mine] .”

“Dulha calculating ,” joked one viewer, while another wrote: “Its fair BTW [sic].”

It may be noted that the expectations set by Afridi are rooted in the Islamic practice of Nafaqah, which guarantees a wife’s right to financial maintenance.

While Nafaqah is an inherent obligation for the husband – covering food, clothing, housing and general living expenses – specific terms regarding the amount or nature of this support can be formalised as binding conditions in the Nikah Nama.

Samiya Hijab threatens to ‘expose’ a cricketer

Amid a series of social media posts exposing men, particularly celebrities, having extramarital affairs or making unwarranted sexual advances towards women, TikToker and influencer Samiya Hijab has threatened to “expose a cricketer”.

“Itnay mard expose ho rahay hain, main bhe aik cricketer ko expose kr doon kia [So many men are being exposed, should I also expose a cricketer]?” she asked in the caption of a video on her account, which came as a wave of similar videos pertaining to celebrities’ infidelity, grips India.

Punjabi singer Karan Aujla recently faced similar allegations after a US-based singer claimed that he hid his marital status and got into a relationship with her. The singer, namely MS Gori, claimed that the singer pressured her to stay silent.

She also claimed that police officials and other relevant authorities in the US and Canada were aware of the matter, but nothing official had come out.

While Karan and his team have not yet responded to the allegations, the allegations are a series of similar claims targeting a number of prominent showbiz personalities, cricketers and social media influences in India.

Samiya herself recently made headlines when Islamabad police arrested a man for allegedly harassing and attempting to abduct her.

The influencer filed a case claiming the man stalked her for several days and attempted to forcefully kidnap her from her house.

The suspect, Hassan Zahid, later confessed to his crime before a district and sessions court in Islamabad.

Samiya, however, eventually dropped the case and reconciled with the accused, forgiving him “for the sake of Allah” in an exclusive interview with a social media outlet.

Honey Singh apologises after vulgar remarks during concert

Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has issued a public apology after facing severe backlash for passing vulgar remarks during a recent concert.

Two days ago, during a Nanku and Karun concert in Delhi, the rapper said to the crowd, “Have s*x in the car in Delhi’s winters. Condoms. Use condoms,” with suggestive words thrown in. A clip of his remarks went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism.

Following the uproar, the rapper shared a video on social media defending his intentions while apologising for the language he used.

“When I went on the show, I saw the Gen Z audience and thought I’d give them a message in their language, to not have unprotected s*x and use condoms. I thought I’d speak in the language they will understand better, the way they watch OTT content and movies,” Honey Singh explained.

He claimed he had recently met with gynecologists and sexologists who told him that Gen Z suffers from sexually transmitted diseases, which prompted him to offer the advice.

“But many were very offended by that language. I apologise to all who felt bad at what I said. I didn’t intend to hurt anyone. Humans make mistakes,” he said.

The rapper promised to be more careful with his words in the future.

“I’ll try not to repeat my mistake. I’ll make sure to make a comment keeping in mind to whom I’m talking and how I say it,” he added.

Signing off, he appealed to his fans for forgiveness. “I apologise to all of you. Your Yo Yo Honey Singh, keep loving me.”

  • ‘A broken home is not a joke’: Javed Sheikh hits back at Bushra Ansari’s comment on his divorce

‘A broken home is not a joke’: Javed Sheikh hits back at Bushra Ansari’s comment on his divorce

Veteran actor Javed Sheikh snapped back at longtime friend Bushra Ansari after she made what many perceived as an insensitive comment about his divorce during a recent press event.

The incident unfolded at a gathering that included several senior artists such as Behroze Sabzwari, Rubina Ashraf, and Shabbir Jan. What started as casual conversation took an uncomfortable turn when Ansari made a remark that clearly struck a nerve with Sheikh.

Ansari talked about a recent visit to Sheikh’s home. “I visited Javed Sheikh, and he didn’t even serve me any food,” she said. “His house was built in front of my eyes and was also broken in front of my eyes [referring to divorce], not because of me, but in front of me.”

Sheikh responded with visible anger to what he saw as a tasteless joke about his failed marriage.

“Bushra taunted about my broken marriage as a joke, but a broken home is not a joke,” he said.

“I never commented on her broken home or questioned why her marriage ended,” he continued, referencing Ansari’s 2014 divorce from her ex-husband Iqbal Ansari.

“Next time, whenever you share my story, mention your own too,” he added. “Your marriage did not work out either.”

The exchange quickly spread across social media, where users rallied behind Sheikh and criticized Ansari’s comment as unnecessary and insensitive.

“They are very good friends apparently but…” one user wrote, expressing surprise at the public confrontation.

“Well said… Javed sb,” another commented in support of the actor.

“He is right,” one user agreed, while another observed, “In ki larhai ho gai hy,” suggesting the friends had gotten into a fight.

“Baat tou ghlt ki hai Javed sir ke bary mai,” wrote another user, calling out the inappropriate nature of the original remark about Sheikh.

Sheikh and Ansari share a friendship that stretches back nearly five decades to their early days in the entertainment industry. Both have spoken warmly about their bond over the years, which made the public spat all the more shocking for fans.

  • Meri Zindagi Hai Tu: When bad writing meets unavoidable chemistry

Meri Zindagi Hai Tu: When bad writing meets unavoidable chemistry

Another episode of Meri Zindagi Hai Tu and another twist of twists without any depth. The storyline is weak and repetitive and just plain boring, even though it tries so hard. But we can’t stop watching it because the chemistry between Ayra (Hania Aamir) and Kamyar (Bilal Abbas) is really so hot. So let’s be honest: we only watch it because it’s soapy, dramatic and just so bad.

It’s like Emily in Paris isn’t it? Mindless, with no social messaging, just love and fighting for love, scheming and betrayal that makes it so spicy to watch. If this drama did not have a superstar cast, it would be termed as being one of the worst dramas of the year. So here we are again, accepting that we like a drama that sucks and will keep watching it to the end because it’s mindless fun.

Come on, surprise surprise. Kamyar goes back to his bad boy ways, Fariha (Vardah Aziz) feels like her plan with Khawar (Ali Rehman Khan) is now successful and randomly she’ll get Kamyar and Khawar will get Ayra. But no, Kamyar is in Devdas mode and Ayra is grieving her loss of falling for the wrong guy.

Fariha and Khawar keep scheming as Kamyar says he doesnt remember the girl he was with in the video and then miraculously the girl lands up in Ayra’s hospital after a suicide attempt and Ayra helps her out because obviously, the girl goes into a coma. And can we please talk about how in all of this, Ayra is a doctor?

Kamyar pops by with Fariha just in time to see Khawar with Ayra (obviously pre-planned by the evil F&K duo) and when Ayra’s dad finds out that Ayra and Kamyar have met over the suicide video girl, he announces that Ayra will no longer focus on her studies and marry Khawar.

Taking a breath here because wow, what a show and what really wild twists. It’s almost as if the writer got a few people together and said let’s think of the craziest story and then put them all together in one show. And that’s exactly what happened.

And that’s it. We’ve written Meri Zindagi Hai Tu as a show that has any storyline worth following and it’s now a guilty pleasure you can have playing on in the background as you do your lanes and think about what a great couple Kamyar and Ayra make.

  • Stage actor Qaiser Piya looted in Lahore

Stage actor Qaiser Piya looted in Lahore

Well-known stage actor Qaiser Piya fell victim to a robbery in Lahore’s Garden Town area, when thieves snatched his expensive mobile phone from him.

The incident occurred on Monday evening, when Piya was driving his car from Kalma Chowk towards Barkat Market.

As per the First Information Report (FIR) filed at Garden Town Police Station, the robbery took place in front of Melano Marriage Hall when traffic came to a standstill.

In his FIR, Piya described how the coordinated robbery unfolded. While his vehicle stopped in a traffic jam, an unknown man aged approximately 25 to 27 years collided with his car from behind.

When Piya lowered his window on the driver’s side to ask what happened, a second accomplice appeared on the opposite side of the vehicle and began knocking loudly on the car door.

The second suspect raised further distraction by yelling that the car had run over a someone.

As Piya rolled down the window on that side to inquire about the situation, the first suspect quietly snatched his iPhone 17 Pro Max from the front side of the car and fled the scene. His accomplice immediately followed.

Piya has requested police to take legal action against the unknown suspects and recover his mobile phone.
