  • ‘Made to feel I was no longer needed’: Ishrat Fatima reveals why she left Radio Pakistan

‘Made to feel I was no longer needed’: Ishrat Fatima reveals why she left Radio Pakistan

Veteran news broadcaster Ishrat Fatima has opened up about the circumstances that led to her departure from Radio Pakistan after 45 years of service, describing a heartbreaking end to a career she once considered her greatest passion.

In an emotional video message shared on social media on Thursday, Fatima revealed that her decision to leave was driven by systematic marginalisation despite continued professional excellence on her part.

“What hurts me most today is that my voice is still strong, my eyesight is clear, my pronunciation is good, I reach work on time, and I still love my work deeply,” Fatima said in the video.

The broadcaster, who began her journey with radio and television in 1983 and started reading news in 1984, described her work as more than just a profession. “News reading was not just my profession; it was my biggest passion. For nearly forty-five years, I only read news. This work was not just a job for me, it was my passion, my obsession, my love, and my madness. And it still is,” she explained.

Fatima had hoped to continue working as long as her abilities remained intact. “I always wished that as long as my voice supports me, as long as my breath stays with me, as long as my pronunciation remains clear, and as long as my face is presentable enough for viewers to watch me with ease, I would continue reading news,” she continued.

However, she pointed to unfair treatment that ultimately pushed her out. “Unfortunately, this seems to be a pattern in our society, and perhaps elsewhere too, that when people cannot compete with you through work, they resort to unfair methods. Instead of competing professionally, they try to take away your space, your breath, your platform,” Fatima stated.

Despite being frequently called a “legend”, the industry icon pointed out that those titles never translated into actual respect or opportunity.

“I was often told that I am a ‘legend’ and a ‘senior,’ but those words were never translated into respect, opportunity, or space. Again and again, I was made to feel that I was no longer needed,” she revealed.

The veteran broadcaster expressed deep disappointment with the institutional response to her departure.

“I do not wish to say much against the institution that fed me and gave me respect. But this institution does not feel anything. It has no emotions, no love. It is just walls, corridors, cameras, and ceilings that echo our voices but do not hear them,” she said.

Fatima emphasized that financial gain was never her motivation. “Money was never my priority. Doing my work in the best possible way mattered more to me,” she noted, adding that what truly matters is “being allowed to work with dignity and fairness.”

Despite the pain of her departure, Fatima expressed no bitterness toward the institutions that shaped her career. “I am not angry with these institutions. They are my first love. But destiny has its own path,” she said.

She ended her message by requesting prayers from her audience, asking that “this painful time does not turn my love for this art into resentment.”

Fatima promised to stay connected with her viewers through social media and share memories from her decades-long career in broadcasting.

It merits a mention that officials at Radio Pakistan have not yet commented on the matter.

  • Musaddiq Malek faces backlash for dismissing value of viewers’ comments on dramas

Musaddiq Malek faces backlash for dismissing value of viewers’ comments on dramas

Director Musaddiq Malek has sparked controversy after dismissing the importance of viewers’ comments on YouTube videos, specifically the digital presentation of dramas, which has led to widespread criticism on social media.

Malek made the remarks during ‘Kya Drama Hai’, a show he hosts alongside judges Nadia Khan, Marina Khan and Sadia Imam.

While discussing drama serial Case No. 9, Nadia recalled a line from character Sehar, played by Saba Qamar, who said it was “really easy to just sit at home and comment, but your comment can actually mess up someone’s life”.

    Musaddiq agreed, saying, “True.”

“That was really fun and such a good point. It was also important to show this to the people watching, including those commenting. And look, when you comment, how do you know the truth? You shouldn’t be commenting like that,” Nadia said.

Musaddiq then said it didn’t have as much an impact as people think. “But I think all these Facebook warriors, Instagram warriors, because of them, we’ve developed thick skin now. Like, it doesn’t matter to me anymore.”

Marina Khan spoke of the seriousness of online harassment, saying, “This medium is allowing kids to commit suicide just because of comments.”

“I want to emphasise this, that we should just close the comment sections. Yes, I said it. Because if you want to watch, go ahead and watch. If you want to message, go ahead and message. You can even inbox or just dislike,” Musaddiq said.

“You don’t have any more value than this. You think it’s super important just because you have a tab for the comment button, but honestly, that’s all you’ve got,” he added.

The clip quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing sharp criticism from viewers who felt disrespected by the director’s remarks.

One user commented, “Nothing great about him.”

Another wrote, “Drama is for the public, so they have every right to comment. And if we don’t watch dramas, yours won’t run either.”

Some viewers defended Musaddiq’s stance after watching the full interview. “Watch the full interview. Then things will be clear. He said this because people bullied Fariya in the comments. They harassed her, saying we’ll do this and that to you. That’s when the director made this point,” one comment read.

However, several others remained critical. “Boycott Musaddiq Malik dramas then he will understand the value of viewers,” suggested a user.

  • Alizeh Shah issues final warning to Yasir Nawaz, threatens defamation suit

Alizeh Shah issues final warning to Yasir Nawaz, threatens defamation suit

Actor Alizeh Shah has publicly warned director Yasir Nawaz against repeatedly mentioning her name on television and during interviews, threatening to file a defamation lawsuit if the actor-director continues this practice.

In a statement on Instagram, Shah said that despite the passage of five years since they last worked together, Nawaz continued to mention her in interviews and talk shows.

“This is my final warning to Yasir Nawaz to refrain from taking my name on any platform. It has been five years since I worked on a project with him, yet he continues to mention my name on nearly every talk show he appears on [sic],” she wrote.

Shah and Nawaz worked together on the 2020 drama serial Mera Dil Mera Dushman. In a 2021 interview, Nawaz said acting disturbed him and he regretted the experience, calling it “bad”.

His wife, Nida Yasir, later stated that Nawaz had difficulty working with Shah and claimed there wasn’t enough chemistry between them.

Nawaz later expressed regret in a May 2022 interview, saying he was still upset about naming Shah. However, Shah claimed the mentions have continued over the years.

She claimed that Nawaz’s comments about her have been inconsistent and damaging. “At times, he offers an apology, and at other times, he claims that the experience was ‘not fun’. Regardless, this does not give him the right to repeatedly drag my name for the past five years.”

The actress revealed that she has kept records of every show in which she believes she was defamed.

“I have documented reports and records of every show in which he has defamed me,” she said, making it clear that her warning should be taken seriously.

“If he mentions my name again or refers to me in any capacity on any future platform, I will proceed with filing a defamation lawsuit against him without further notice.”

She went on to add that if the behaviour continued, she would disclose to the industry the real reasons behind their strained working relationship. “Trust me, it will not reflect well on your image,” she cautioned.

It may be noted that Shah has in recent months made headlines for being vocal against exploitative practices and toxic environment within the entertainment industry.

In a series of video confessions in July 2025, she opened up about years of harassment, exploitation and what she described as a toxic, patriarchal culture that repeatedly tried to silence her.

She emphasised the importance of consent, stating, “I don’t allow anyone to touch me if it’s not a part of the scene.”

She revealed that when she set personal boundaries, such as calling out unhygienic practices or requesting a separate makeup room as a smoker, she was labelled “difficult” and “unprofessional” by seniors and producers.

Shah also exposed the industry’s harassment and closed-door rituals, admitting they had left her with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

  • ‘He’s the worst human being’: Mark Ruffalo slams Donald Trump

‘He’s the worst human being’: Mark Ruffalo slams Donald Trump

Hollywood celebrities turned the Golden Globes red carpet into a platform for protest on Sunday, following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Goode by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.

Mark Ruffalo, Marvel star and Hollywood veteran, delivered some of the evening’s harshest criticism of President Donald Trump.

An ICE agent shot and killed Goode, a 37-year-old American mother and writer, on January 7 during a large-scale federal immigration operation in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area.

The incident occurred after Goode had dropped her youngest child off at school. Approximately 2,000 agents participated in the operation.

Ruffalo and fellow actor Wanda Sykes wore pins reading “BE GOOD” and “ICE OUT” on the red carpet, joining other celebrities in condemning the shooting.

Speaking to an American media outlet, Ruffalo did not mince words about the incident and the president.

“This is for Renee Nicole Goode, who was murdered,” Ruffalo said. He continued his criticism by addressing Trump’s foreign policy, saying, “We’re in the middle of a war with Venezuela that we illegally invaded. He’s telling the world that international law doesn’t matter to him. The only thing that matters to him is his own morality.”

The Avengers star escalated his remarks further. “He’s the worst human being. If we’re relying on this guy’s morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we’re all in a lot of trouble.”

Ruffalo concluded his statement by broadening his focus to Americans affected by current policies. “So this is for her. This is for the people in the United States who are terrorized and scared today. I know I’m one of them. I love this country. And what I’m seeing here happening is not America.”

Sykes also criticized the incident, though she was less direct than Ruffalo.

On January 3, 2026, the United States launched an illegal military strike on Venezuela and captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Trump stated that the US would run Venezuela until a proper transition can take place.

Trump also posted on Truth Social an altered image describing himself as the “Acting President of Venezuela” on January 12.

  • Pedro Pascal, others, raise $5.4 million for children of Palestine, Sudan

Pedro Pascal, others, raise $5.4 million for children of Palestine, Sudan

The third Artists for Aid concert has raised $5.4 million for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) and the Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) during a star-studded event in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Canadian Sudanese artist Mustafa the Poet organised the concert, while supermodel Bella Hadid and actor Pedro Pascal hosted the evening at the Shrine Auditorium. The event aimed to provide immediate relief for children and medical care in Palestinian territories and Sudan through music and solidarity.

“I always knew that an artist’s power did not come from their musical knowledge,” Mustafa said while starting the event. “I always knew that an artist’s power comes from the expansion of their empathy,” he added.

Hadid expressed awe at the turnout while opening the show.

“Families living through unimaginable loss, displacement, hunger, violence, tonight we attempt to shield them from genocide, working to erase them. Even remembering is a protest and I truly, truly stand by that,” she said.

“No matter what we can do in the world by just speaking, by loving and making sure they always feel heard is something that is most important in the entire world. Let’s keep raising our voices and make sure these families and children know how much we stand with them,” she concluded.

The concert featured an impressive lineup including Alex G, Blood Orange, Clairo, Daniel Caesar, Faye Webster, Geese, Jazmine Sullivan, Lucy Dacus, Mustafa, Noname, Noor Hindi, Omar Apollo, Raphael Saadiq, Rayn Lenae, Rex Orange County, Safia Elhillo, Shawn Mendes, Snoh Aalegra, Tamino and 070 Shake.

Chappell Roan made a surprise appearance during Dacus’s set, delighting fans.

“My friend cold FaceTimed me a few days ago and said, ‘Can I come sing with you at the show?’ So I’d like to invite my friend Chappell Roan to the stage,” Dacus told the crowd, which erupted in cheers.

Omar Apollo endearingly forgot the lyrics to his hit “Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me At All)” and sang them off his phone, while Shawn Mendes brought out Maggie Rogers for a duet of “Youth.”

The night’s most powerful performances addressing the current crises came from Palestinian American poet Noor Hindi and Sudanese American poet Safia Elhillo.

The PCRF attended the concert and shared on social media how honored they felt to be part of the event alongside thousands of attendees “who showed how global solidarity can become real action, sending a powerful message of care and hope to children who have endured so much in both Palestine and Sudan.”

The foundation revealed that two evacuated children from Gaza attended the concert.

“We were especially moved to see Diaa and Ayham, two of our children who were evacuated from Gaza for life-saving treatment abroad, attending the concert in person, thriving and strong once again, just as we wish for all the children we serve,” the PCRF stated.

The concert marks one of several relief efforts organized to raise funds for Palestine, but appears to be one of the first large-scale efforts for Sudan.

In October, a Pride and Prejudice table-read starring Ambika Mod and Daisy Ridley raised funds, and in September, a benefit concert hosted by Benedict Cumberbatch, Nicola Coughlan, Florence Pugh, and Richard Gere among others raised $2 million.

Amnesty International has said that Israel continues to commit genocide in Gaza despite a ceasefire. At least 68,000 Palestinians died in Israel’s genocide that devastated hospitals, schools, and homes.

Sudan has faced a vicious civil war since April 2023. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the main paramilitary militia fighting the Sudanese military, recently committed reported atrocities in the town of El-Fasher, bringing global attention to the brutal conflict.

The RSF laid siege to the town for 18 months before finally capturing it. Eyewitnesses described scenes of absolute horror, including bodies lying in the streets, mass executions, rape and torture.

The International Criminal Court has stated that the brutalities committed in El-Fasher could constitute crimes against humanity.

  • ‘Case No. 10 will be a murder mystery,’ confirms Shahzeb Khanzada

‘Case No. 10 will be a murder mystery,’ confirms Shahzeb Khanzada

Anchor-turned-writer Shahzeb Khanzada has announced that following the success of his debut project Case No. 9, his next serial, Case No. 10, is on the way.

The 39-year-old revealed during an exclusive conversation with Aamna Isani for Something Haute that he has already completed the script for his new project.

“I have finished writing my new murder mystery story,” Shahzeb said, adding that the overwhelming response to Case No. 9 encouraged him to dive straight into his next project.

However, the launch timeline for Case No. 10 remains unknown.

When asked whether Case No. 9 drew inspiration from real events, Shahzeb clarified that the drama is not based on a single incident.

“Certain scenes come from real life, such as a powerful character using lawyers to pressure a victim, an incident that actually occurred and found its way into the drama,” he explained.

“Inspector Shafiq’s investigative approach was also real,” Shahzeb noted, adding that the actual incident was far more harsh and cruel, which the team toned down for viewers.

Case No. 9 featured an ensemble cast including Saba Qamar, Faysal Quraishi, Rushna Khan, Noor ul Hasan, Aamina Sheikh, Gohar Rasheed, Ali Rehman Khan, Junaid Khan, and Navin Waqar.

The drama is centered on Sehar, a determined woman seeking justice after being sexually assaulted by a powerful, influential businessman Kamran who uses his wealth and status to evade consequences.

  • ‘Shadi tou hone do’: Hania Aamir has hilarious reaction to astrologer’s prediction about her marriage

‘Shadi tou hone do’: Hania Aamir has hilarious reaction to astrologer’s prediction about her marriage

Superstar Hania Aamir is not just talented and beautiful, she’s also really witty. Her trademark wit popped up on social media again when an astrologer claimed she will marry twice in 2026.

The actress took to Instagram, writing “Ajeeb, pehly shadi tou hone do [Strange, let me get married first],” addressing the bizarre predictions that have circulated about her personal life.

The controversy began when astrologer Samia Khan appeared on Nadia Khan’s morning show and analysed Hania’s birth chart.

Khan warned the actress to focus on her career and avoid marriage in 2026, claiming that if Hania and singer Asim Azhar tie the knot this year, the relationship could end in a breakup that would damage both their personal and professional lives.

Multiple astrologers have weighed in on the matter. Kiran Chaudhary, who claims to have correctly predicted Hania’s previous breakup, suggested the actress might reconcile with her former partner and marry this year. Meanwhile, astrologer Ali Muhammad stated he can see a relationship in Hania’s future but believes marriage remains distant.

Hania and Asim’s relationship has captivated fans since 2018. The couple split in 2020 after Asim got engaged to Merub Ali, though that engagement ended in June 2025.

Following the split, speculation about Hania and Asim rekindling their romance gained traction.

Recent social media interactions have fueled the rumors.

Last year, Hania posted a reel featuring Asim’s song “U Got This,” prompting the singer to respond on his Instagram story with “Haan, main galat par sahi bhi hota hoon” (Yes, I’m wrong, but I am also right).

Entertainment outlet Galaxy Lollywood added to the speculation in their latest “What’s The 411” episode, claiming Hania and Asim will marry this year, followed by actress Sajal Aly’s wedding to actor Hamza Sohail later in 2026.

However, neither Hania nor Asim have officially confirmed or denied the relationship rumors.
