  • New study reveals more than 50% of marketers are using AI to boost content creation

New study reveals more than 50% of marketers are using AI to boost content creation

A comprehensive study conducted by Bynder, a leading digital asset management platform, sheds light on the numerous ways the marketing industry is leveraging AI technology to enhance efficiency in day-to-day tasks and explores the potential for further advancements in this domain.

The study, which delved deep into Bynder’s customer base, comprising prominent global brands such as Spotify, Puma, and Five Guys, revealed that more than half (55 per cent) of respondents are currently employing AI tools in their content production processes. These AI integrations are primarily focused on automating repetitive and time-consuming tasks, including generating initial draughts (54 per cent), content optimisation (43 per cent), and ensuring correct spelling and grammar (42 per cent), among others.

The marketing industry has been quick to integrate AI into various daily operations, encompassing brainstorming ideas, drafting engaging social media posts and landing page copy, crafting attention-grabbing headlines, establishing tone of voice guidelines, and conducting research tasks. Additionally, AI has proven valuable in reducing the time spent on laborious SEO activities such as generating meta-descriptions and translations. The most common tasks involving AI in this regard include content re-use (30 per cent), creating tone of voice guidelines (27 per cent), content governance (25 per cent), and translation tasks (25 per cent).

Looking forward, the study’s respondents emphasised the need for businesses to consider how AI technology can enhance and streamline content production processes rather than simply replacing human input. To add even more value to content operations, the potential applications of AI suggested by respondents include personalising website content based on individual browsing history and preferences, developing chatbots to improve user navigation, and providing content recommendations derived from user behavior and sentiment analysis. Moreover, AI could simplify content creation by generating initial drafts that can later be refined by human teams.

Respondents noted that training AI to comprehend a company’s intended tone of voice and speaker style could be beneficial. Furthermore, having AI make recommendations or automatically create and update timelines and revision histories could be advantageous from a broader perspective.

However, while embracing AI technology, marketers emphasised that its primary purpose should be to improve the quality of content rather than solely focus on cost-cutting measures. They stressed the importance of striking the right balance between human expertise and AI capabilities to achieve optimal results.

Warren Daniels, the CMO of Bynder, expressed satisfaction with how customers and marketers are leveraging AI to drive innovation and efficiency. At Bynder, the focus has been on developing AI and automation capabilities to empower marketers to maximise the value of their creative and editorial content. He emphasised that in today’s competitive landscape, creating exceptional content experiences is crucial for standing out, and responsible adoption of AI technology plays a pivotal role in enabling this.

However, Daniels cautioned against replacing human creativity with AI. Instead, he advocated for integrating AI into existing processes in a way that frees up time for teams to concentrate on more creative endeavours. The creation of high-quality content demands thorough research, a genuine understanding of a brand’s core messages and tone of voice, and a touch of human empathy. AI should be harnessed in a managed or controlled manner to complement human creativity rather than hinder it.

Muharram 9, 10: Mobile services suspended in multiple areas to ensure safety

On July 28, mobile services were suspended in several parts of Pakistan in observance of Ashura (Muharram 9), as part of precautionary measures taken by the authorities to maintain peace and avoid any potential untoward situations during this significant religious event.

In Islamabad, the Ministry of Interior requested the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to enforce the suspension of mobile services not only on Muharram 9 but also extend it to Muharram 10 and 11.

As per the directives, mobile service remained unavailable in sectors G6 and G7 from 1 pm to 10 pm on Muharram 9. Additionally, in Sector 10-I and adjoining areas, the services were blocked from 6 pm to 6 am on the following day.

On Muharram 11, mobile phone services were suspended in Shah Allah Ditta from 2 am to 7 pm, and in the areas surrounding Noorpur Shahan/Bari Imam, the suspension was in effect from 12 pm to 7 pm.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sources from the provincial home department informed Geo News that mobile services would remain suspended in 14 districts on Muharram 9 and 10, including Sadar, Pishtakhara, Hassan Ghari, inner city Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohat, Hangu, and Bannu. The mobile service suspension continued until 10 pm on these days to ensure a peaceful Ashura observance.

Similarly, local authorities in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, decided to suspend mobile services on Muharram 9 and 10 to prevent any potential disturbances during the religious event.

Additionally, the provincial government of Balochistan had already imposed a ban on pillion riding in the Quetta division from Muharram 1 to Muharram 12 (July 28 to August 8) as an added security measure.

In Karachi, the PTA had previously announced a partial suspension of mobile services in some areas until Muharram 10 (July 29). However, the suspension was extended to Muharram 8 and was expected to remain in effect on Muharram 9.

Moreover, in Lahore and Sindh, authorities enforced a ban on pillion riding during the observance of Ashura on July 28.

It’s important to note that despite the temporary disruption of mobile services, landline and cable net services continued to operate without interruption.

These measures were taken to ensure the safety and security of the public during the important religious commemoration of Ashura on July 28, 2023.

  • New laws to fight cybercrime in Pakistan: Cabinet passes e-safety and data protection bills

New laws to fight cybercrime in Pakistan: Cabinet passes e-safety and data protection bills

In a significant development, the federal cabinet of Pakistan granted principle approval to two crucial pieces of legislation on Wednesday, which are expected to have a far-reaching impact on digital rights, e-commerce, and the digital economy of the country.

The first bill, named the E-Safety Bill 2023, aims to tackle and prevent online crimes such as cyberbullying, online harassment, and blackmailing. To enforce the provisions of this bill, the cabinet also greenlit the establishment of a regulatory authority known as ‘The E-Safety Authority.’ This authority will be responsible for registering and monitoring websites, web channels, YouTube channels, and existing media houses’ websites. The main objective behind this initiative is to safeguard the rights of citizens, businesses, as well as public and private institutions from online harassment and blackmail.

Presently, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has the authority to monitor content and enforce relevant laws online, while the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) handles cybercrime-related cases. However, the proposed E-Safety Authority will take charge of the front-end monitoring of all websites, promptly addressing violations and imposing penalties. This measure is deemed necessary due to the rapid pace at which cybercrime incidents occur, often exceeding the FIA’s investigative capacity, while the PTA’s role is primarily limited to regulatory functions for internet and telecom service providers.

According to Dawn, the second bill, titled the Personal Data Protection Bill 2023, focuses on protecting user data and preventing the unauthorised use of information systems. The bill will apply to all types of online services, including online shopping platforms, various companies, and social networking websites operating in Pakistan. It aims to safeguard consumers’ data and ensure that it is not misused or illegally accessed.

As per the official statement, “personal data” under the proposed legislation refers to any information directly or indirectly related to an identifiable individual, encompassing sensitive or critical personal data. The bill mandates all entities collecting or maintaining data, digitally or non-digitally operational in Pakistan, to register themselves locally and appoint a data protection officer. The National Commission for Personal Data Protection (NCPDP) will oversee the registration process and will establish sub-offices in provincial capitals and other necessary locations within six months of the bill’s passage.

However, the approval of the Personal Data Protection Bill 2023 has raised concerns among international bodies representing internet-based platforms. The Asia Internet Coalition (AIC), through its Managing Director Jeff Paine, highlighted that the bill’s current form falls short of international data protection standards and imposes unnecessary complexities that may increase the cost of doing business and hinder foreign investment. The requirement for “critical” data to be stored locally and the restriction on cross-border transfer of other personal data could potentially limit access to global digital services for Pakistanis.

In response to these concerns, the AIC has called for more transparent stakeholder consultations by the government. Digital rights campaigner and Meta board member, Nighat Dad, expressed similar sentiments, stating that while the bill addresses important issues, the lack of consultations is undemocratic.

Despite concerns from international bodies, an official from the IT ministry defended the legislation, emphasising that the government’s primary responsibility is to protect Pakistan’s interests and its citizens. He asserted that commercial entities’ apprehensions are primarily driven by their business concerns.

The approval of these significant bills marks a crucial step towards enhancing digital rights and data protection in Pakistan. As the nation progresses into a more digitally interconnected era, finding a balanced approach that addresses concerns from both local and international stakeholders will be crucial for the country’s digital economy and growth.

  • Elon Musk set to change Twitter’s iconic blue bird logo to an ‘X’

Elon Musk set to change Twitter’s iconic blue bird logo to an ‘X’

On Sunday, Elon Musk announced that Twitter’s distinctive blue bird logo would be replaced with its new logo: an ‘X’. The decision is the latest in a series of controversial changes to the social media platform post Musk’s purchase, such as introducing a limit on how many tweets a user can view.

“X.com now points to twitter.com,” the CEO of Tesla tweeted on Sunday afternoon. “Interim X logo goes live later today.”

He tweeted: “And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds”.

Musk posted an image of a flickering “X”, and later in a Twitter Spaces audio chat replied “Yes” when asked if the Twitter logo will change, adding that “it should have been done a long time ago”.

Many users have found Musk’s recent decisions regarding the platform contentious, to say the least. Some of his decisions were scrapped within days of its announcement, including scrapping the verified account “blue ticks”, while still allowing others to pay for verification. Or his plan to change the “for you” timeline to only show paid-for accounts.

The amount of criticism and backlash the billionaire’s stewardship of Twitter has received would make anyone second guess their decision. But not Musk. His decision to buy the social media platform last October, for an entire $44 billion, was spurred by his vision of creating a “super app”.

When Musk bought Twitter, he changed the company’s official name in April to X Holdings Corp, after his early venture X.com. Musk has a vision to create ‘X, the everything app’, an application that performs social media and payment functions, similar to China’s WeChat.

When he bought Twitter last October, he said the decision was “an accelerant” to creating ‘X’. Musk’s rocket company, Space Exploration Technologies Corp, is commonly known as SpaceX. And in 1999, Musk founded a startup called X.com, an online financial services company now known as PayPal.

As a predictable consequence of another one of his many controversial Twitter-related decisions, users are irked. As one user pointed out “there’s probably a bit of brand value in the fact that a significant % of the world’s population knows what a “tweet” is.”

Another one pleaded Musk to “leave Twitter alone”, referring to a poll the CEO himself published in December 2022, asking the public if he should step down as the head of Twitter. 57% of the poll voted ‘Yes’, but it seems Musk has no intention to abide.

  • You can now renew your passport online, no office visit needed

You can now renew your passport online, no office visit needed

Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has officially announced the introduction of an online passport renewal service. This new initiative is set to revolutionise the passport renewal process and address the longstanding grievances of citizens who previously faced challenges due to long queues and extensive waiting times at government offices.

The announcement was communicated through the official Twitter account of Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, indicating the government’s commitment to streamlining administrative processes for the public. With the implementation of this hassle-free e-passport facility, citizens can now conveniently renew their passports from anywhere without the need to physically visit a government office.

By embracing the online platform for passport renewal, the government aims to eliminate the tedious and time-consuming process of visiting passport offices, which has been a point of frustration for many applicants in the past. The introduction of the e-passport renewal facility marks a significant step towards enhancing public service efficiency and ensuring a smoother experience for citizens.

Prior to this digital transformation, obtaining a renewed passport was a daunting task for citizens, as long lines stretching outside passport offices were a common sight. The inefficiencies inherent in the previous system often resulted in unnecessary delays and inconveniences for applicants. With the implementation of the new online renewal system, such challenges are poised to become a thing of the past.

In conclusion, the introduction of the online passport renewal service represents a commendable effort by the government to embrace technological advancements and cater to the evolving needs of the public. By offering citizens the convenience of renewing their passports from the comfort of their homes, this initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing citizen-centric services and streamlining bureaucratic processes.
