Curtis Sliwa: The Fighter Shaping NYC’s Future

When it comes to fearless voices in New York City politics, Curtis Sliwa is a name impossible to ignore. Known for his signature red beret and a life spent battling crime and corruption, he’s once again making headlines. With his recent win in the Republican primary for NYC mayor, Curtis Sliwa has put himself at the center of one of the most anticipated political races in America.

But this is more than just a campaign. It’s a story of grit, personal sacrifice, and a deep-rooted desire to bring change to a city at a crossroads.

    Who Is Curtis Sliwa?

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Curtis Sliwa is best known as the founder of the Guardian Angels, a nonprofit he created in 1979 to combat rising crime in NYC. Wearing red jackets and berets, this unarmed volunteer group patrolled subways and neighborhoods, providing a visible deterrent against criminal activity when few others dared to intervene.

Unlike traditional politicians, Sliwa’s background isn’t built on private schools or political families. He worked as a newspaper delivery boy, McDonald’s night manager, and later as a radio talk show host. His authenticity made him a familiar figure to working-class New Yorkers long before politics came into play.

Curtis Sliwa Wins Republican Primary for NYC Mayor

In June 2025, Curtis Sliwa secured the Republican nomination for New York City mayor, running unopposed. His victory was expected, but the timing and tone of his campaign suggest a much bigger fight ahead. On X (formerly Twitter), he posted:

“No matter what happens today, don’t lose hope… In November, we get to choose a better path. I’ll be the People’s Mayor.”

Now gearing up for the general election, Sliwa is set to face Independent Mayor Eric Adams and Democratic Socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani, creating a powerful narrative of Sliwa vs Mamdani that’s gaining national attention.

What Does Curtis Sliwa Stand For?

Sliwa’s platform is focused on issues that touch everyday life:

    • Public Safety: Building on his Guardian Angels legacy, he wants to expand community patrols and crack down on subway violence.

    • Transit Reform: Advocating for cleaner, safer subway stations and better service for commuters.

    • Rikers Island Reform: Pushing for transparency and humane treatment while tackling staff shortages and inmate safety.

    • Affordable Housing: With stories about the Curtis Sliwa apartment making rounds, he’s turning attention toward excessive rents, broken public housing, and middle-class displacement.

    • Education: Backing school choice and advocating for better funding and discipline policies in public schools.

Each point of his campaign connects with frustrations many New Yorkers voice every day, especially those in outer boroughs who often feel ignored by City Hall.

Sliwa vs Mamdani: The Showdown to Watch

The Sliwa vs Mamdani race is shaping up as more than just a political contest. It’s a battle between traditional values and progressive ideals. Zohran Mamdani, a state assemblyman and democratic socialist, supports rent control expansions, defunding the police, and other progressive agendas.

Sliwa offers a stark contrast, calling for law and order, fiscal discipline, and a return to “commonsense governance.” Voters will likely see the choice as one between stability and experimentation, especially as public trust in city leadership wanes.

Curtis Sliwa Polls and Public Sentiment

According to early Curtis Sliwa polls, the race is tighter than expected. While Eric Adams still commands name recognition as the incumbent, his approval ratings have dipped due to rising crime and housing crises. Mamdani pulls strong among younger and progressive voters, but Sliwa’s blue-collar message is resonating across Staten Island, Queens, and parts of Brooklyn.

Insider sources note a growing curiosity about Sliwa’s potential as a political underdog. Analysts believe if he continues to dominate the outer borough vote and secure endorsements, he could make a serious run, especially if Adams and Mamdani split the more progressive base.

Curtis Sliwa Net Worth and Personal Life

When discussing candidates, personal backgrounds matter. Curtis Sliwa’s net worth is estimated to be around $500,000 to $1 million, a far cry from typical political figures. He’s not a billionaire with luxury condos. He lives modestly, often referencing the Curtis Sliwa apartment in the Upper West Side as an example of staying connected to city life.

This contrast enhances his appeal. His financial profile matches his image, a man rooted in everyday struggles, not corporate boardrooms.

    Not Just Another Politician

Many political campaigns rely on polished speeches and vague promises. Curtis Sliwa operates differently. He walks the streets he talks about. He’s been mugged, jailed, and even shot in a 1992 taxi ambush allegedly ordered by mob boss John Gotti Jr. These events didn’t weaken him, they became part of his story.

Whether loved or criticized, he’s seen as real. That’s rare in a world of rehearsed debates and political spin.

    What’s Next for Curtis Sliwa?

With November approaching, expect to see Curtis Sliwa stepping up his campaign across every borough. From town halls to subway meet-and-greets, he’s building a movement that speaks to public frustration. His focus on public safety and community engagement taps into a growing feeling that NYC needs new leadership, someone who sees what the average person sees.

More voters are searching online for phrases like “Curtis Sliwa polls” and “Sliwa vs Mamdani,” indicating rising public interest in this race. This is more than a mayoral election, it’s a referendum on what kind of city New Yorkers want post-pandemic.

    Final Thoughts

Curtis Sliwa isn’t running on promises. He’s running on experience, scars, and a belief that NYC’s best days are still ahead. In a crowded field of candidates, he brings something few others can: lived truth, a record of service, and an ability to connect without pretense.

As the general election nears, voters will decide whether that legacy is enough to bring real change to City Hall.

LAFC vs Flamengo: Club World Cup Battle for Pride

The match between LAFC vs Flamengo in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup caught attention around the world, not just because of the talent on display, but also for the unique North vs South American showdown it delivered. Held at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, this clash had all the ingredients of a memorable football evening.

Even though both teams had contrasting campaigns leading up to this match, the final group stage game still had much at stake. For LAFC, it was about saving face. For Flamengo, it was a rehearsal for greater ambitions ahead.

LAFC’s Struggles in the Group Stage

LAFC came into the tournament full of hope. After a thrilling qualification, fans believed a deep run was possible. However, reality hit hard. The team lost both of its opening games without scoring a goal. First came a tough match against Chelsea, where missed chances defined the game. Then came the heartbreak against ES Tunis, where Denis Bouanga missed a penalty that could’ve changed everything.

Now, the goal was simple: score and secure at least one point. No team wants to exit a global tournament empty-handed. Unfortunately, they were up against the most in-form team in the group.

    Flamengo: Dominance from South America

Flamengo entered the game riding a 10-game unbeaten streak, including a convincing win over Premier League giants Chelsea. That performance alone made everyone take notice. They didn’t just beat Chelsea; they outclassed them.

What stood out was Flamengo’s cohesion. Every player knew their role. Their midfield dictated the tempo, while their defense rarely cracked under pressure. Even though they had already secured top spot in Group D, they didn’t take this final match lightly.

    LAFC vs Flamengo Lineups

Heading into the clash, fans were eager to see the lafc vs flamengo lineups, which featured some exciting names.

    LAFC Starting XI:

    • Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris

    • Defenders: Aaron Long, Giorgio Chiellini, Ryan Hollingshead, Diego Palacios

    • Midfielders: Ilie Sanchez, Timothy Tillman, Eduard Atuesta

    • Forwards: Denis Bouanga, David Martínez, Olivier Giroud

    Flamengo Starting XI:

    • Goalkeeper: Agustin Rossi

    • Defenders: Wesley, Fabricio Bruno, Léo Pereira, Ayrton Lucas

    • Midfielders: Allan, Gerson, De Arrascaeta

    • Forwards: Bruno Henrique, Pedro, Everton Cebolinha

These lineups brought experience, youth, and flair. Giroud’s potential farewell added an emotional angle, while De Arrascaeta’s creative spark kept Flamengo ticking.

Match Recap: Goals, Drama, and Missed Chances

The game didn’t disappoint. After a cagey start, LAFC found the net through Denis Bouanga, finally breaking their scoring drought. It was a moment of relief for the MLS side. But Flamengo responded quickly. Wallace Yan slotted home to equalize, showcasing the Brazilian team’s quick reaction and depth.

Possession and tactical control largely stayed with Flamengo. They made 527 passes to LAFC’s 398 and had 65% of the ball. LAFC, however, looked dangerous on counters.

Both teams had chances late in the game, but the score ended 1-1. LAFC exited the tournament with their heads held a little higher, while Flamengo marched on to the knockout stages as Group D leaders.

LAFC vs Flamengo Stats: By the Numbers

For fans who love the numbers, here’s a quick look at the lafc vs flamengo stats:

    • Final Score: LAFC 1 – 1 Flamengo

    Key Takeaways and What’s Next

    1. LAFC’s Missed Opportunity

Despite showing promise in attack during the final match, LAFC’s earlier failures cost them dearly. Bouanga’s penalty miss vs. ES Tunis loomed large. The inability to finish early chances in the tournament left them playing catch-up.

    2. Flamengo’s Title Intentions

This team is not just here to participate. With strong depth, tactical clarity, and form, Flamengo look poised to be serious contenders. Their dominance against Chelsea and controlled play vs. LAFC prove they can adapt to different opponents.

    3. MLS vs. Brazilian Série A

The match also highlighted the growing gap between the top South American clubs and their North American counterparts. While MLS continues to grow, Flamengo’s fluidity and sharpness showed a different level of game intelligence.

Why This Match Matters Beyond the Score

Beyond just stats and lineups, lafc vs flamengo stood as a cultural exchange. It gave American fans a firsthand look at elite Brazilian football. The match also encouraged more attention toward the FIFA Club World Cup, a competition still growing in prestige.

Islamabad’s newly-built Jinnah Square section collapses during first monsoon rain

A section of the recently inaugurated Jinnah Square’s road in the federal capital has collapsed after the first monsoon rain of the season, leading to serious concerns over its construction quality.

According to reports, the Rs4.2 billion project completed in just 84 days had been boasted by the government as a model of rapid development. However, the loop connecting G-5 to Aabpara near Serena Chowk on Thursday collapsed during rain, impeding traffic and raising safety concerns.

“This is a cruel joke on taxpayers. If a multi-billion-rupee road can’t withstand a single spell of rain, it reflects alarming negligence,” said a commuter amid massive traffic disruptions.

While experts demand an independent inquiry into the structural integrity of the fast-tracked project amid serious doubts over its quality and oversight of the construction, Capital Development Authority (CDA) teams have reportedly started with emergency repairs on the washed away road.

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif and the CDA chairman have been called on by the public to launch a thorough investigation into the project and hold those responsible for any negligence or malpractice accountable.

‘I don’t want to work in Bollywood’: Old Diljit Dosanjh interview goes viral amid boycott calls

As the release of Sardaar Ji 3 approaches, an old interview of Diljit Dosanjh is going viral and it’s making headlines once again.

In the resurfaced clip, the Punjabi singer is seen saying that he has no desire to work in Bollywood and doesn’t need approval from anyone to make music.

“I don’t even want to work in Bollywood. I have no such desire to become a great Bollywood star,” Diljit says in the video.

He goes on to add, “I love music, and I can continue making music without anyone’s permission or any big star’s approval or names attached. I don’t need to think that, ‘Oh this person’s work will sell, this one will get a song, that one won’t.’ None of that applies to me.”

Diljit also made it clear that no one can stop him from creating. “As long as I feel like it, I’ll keep creating music. And as long as God wills it, I’ll make music. Whether I get work in Bollywood or not, I couldn’t care less,” he concluded.

The video has resurfaced online just days before the release of Sardaar Ji 3, a horror-comedy film starring Hania Aamir, Neeru Bajwa, Jasmin Bajwa, and Gulshan Grover.

The film has faced boycott calls in India after the Film Federation of Western Indian Cinema (FWIC) reimposed a ban on Pakistani artists, following the Pahalgam attack in April.

In response to the situation, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 have decided to release the film overseas only, including in Pakistan, skipping cinemas in India.

The film is set to release worldwide (excluding India) on June 27.
