World Bank, ADB pledge $544m for Balochistan

The World Bank (WB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have committed a combined $544 million to support development initiatives in Balochistan. According to reports, the funds aim to focus on initiatives surrounding education, water access, and women’s financial inclusion.

The ADB has granted a $350 million loan for a major initiative aimed at helping women in Pakistan access financial services. Moreover, reports reveal that the WB has approved $194 million in funding for two separate projects in Balochistan.

Of the aforementioned WB projects, a $100 million education program, titled “GRADES”, is being designed to improve learning outcomes and enrolment, especially at the childhood and primary levels. Reports indicate that this program could reach a staggering 250,000 children across Balochistan.

This project reportedly includes steps like starting early childhood education in more areas, adding double shifts to accommodate more students, building climate-resilient study spaces, and offering safer transport options.

According to reports, the project aims to focus on teacher training, with 5,000 teachers set to receive professional development. Moreover, 400 scholarships will go to female students training to become teachers, which could encourage more women to enter the education sector.

Najy Benhassine, the World Bank’s Country Director for Pakistan, outlined how the bank remained “committed to supporting Balochistan through strategic investments in infrastructure and human development.”

Reports reveal that WB Project Team Lead Inga Afanasieva also highlighted how the initiative goes beyond classrooms as the program intends to build resilience against disasters and ensure early education systems are more sustainable and accessible.

The World Bank’s second project in the province, namely the Balochistan Water Security and Productivity Improvement Project (BWSPIP), is getting $94 million in financial support. It’s centred on improving access to water in the Talli, Nari, and Lehri river basins of the Kachi Plain, as well as Quetta.

Data from reports suggests that about half a million people are expected to benefit from basic water supply improvements, with an additional 80,000 gaining access to infrastructure that is climate resilient.

As per reports, this initiative will work on flood protection, water availability for farming and daily use, and making water delivery systems more reliable. The broader goal is to improve agricultural productivity and provide more economic stability for smallholder and tenant farmers.

Task Team Lead Carolina Dominguez Torres reportedly outlined how the BWSPIP is “in line with Pakistan’s Resilient Recovery Framework” and that the program could improve the lives of many in Quetta, especially farmers and women.

  • Famous TikToker arrested in Karachi for supplying drugs

Famous TikToker arrested in Karachi for supplying drugs

Karachi police have arrested social media influencer and former model Babra, also known as Bebo Baloch, on charges of supplying narcotics, including crystal meth (ice) and cocaine.

The arrest was made during an intelligence-based operation conducted by Darakhshan Police near 26th Street, Khayaban-e-Badar, in Defence Phase 5.

According to reports, Babra was found in possession of ice, a highly addictive drug. She was already on the radar of law enforcement agencies and is listed in the Special Branch’s B-Category surveillance list. Police confirmed that she had previously been arrested twice in separate theft cases by Darakhshan and Sahil police stations.

During initial interrogation, Babra reportedly admitted to using social media platforms to distribute drugs. Her primary clientele included affluent youth in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and other upscale neighborhoods of Karachi.

She shared that her journey began in 2007 when she entered the modeling industry. After family problems and her mother’s remarriage in 2017, she moved to a flat in the Khayaban-e-Muslim Commercial area, where she began posting content online and gained popularity as a TikToker.

Babra further disclosed that frequent attendance at high-profile parties introduced her to drugs, eventually leading to her addiction to ice and cocaine. Over time, she became involved in the drug supply business herself.

Police officials added that Babra named several accomplices during questioning. A manhunt is currently underway to apprehend others connected to the drug network. Authorities believe the group operated a structured narcotics supply chain using social media as a key tool for communication and delivery.

A case has been registered under the Anti-Narcotics Act, and investigations are ongoing. Police expect further arrests as the probe expands.

While her official social media accounts have not yet been confirmed by police, a TikTok account believed to be hers has over 100,000 followers and features videos that appear to match her identity. A related Instagram account has around 20,000 followers.

Indian media makes shocking claims about Hania Aamir

Pakistani actress Hania Aamir has become a hot topic across Indian media following the release of the trailer for the upcoming Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3 earlier this week.

While some outlets have criticised her appearance in the film, citing recent tensions between Pakistan and India, others have praised her acting skills and growing popularity across South Asia.

The article, however, did not reveal how much she was paid for Sardaar Ji 3. The trailer, released earlier this week, has garnered a large viewership.

  • ‘Stop the attack’; Trump raised his voice at Netanyahu in tense call

‘Stop the attack’; Trump raised his voice at Netanyahu in tense call

United States (US) President Donald Trump held a telephonic conversation with Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu minutes before Israeli Air Force (IAF) fighter jets were supposed to launch a strike on Iran on Tuesday, The Jerusalem Post has reported.

Citing a source familiar with the development, Jerusalem Post said that US President Trump raised his voice at the Israeli PM, telling him, “Stop the attack.”

The report claims that Netanyahu could not say much during the call, though he repeatedly expressed gratitude to Trump.

“It was a tough conversation between Netanyahu and President Trump. Trump viewed this as a personal achievement and made it clear that no one, absolutely no one, would undermine it,” The Jerusalem Post quoted the source as saying.

Following the call, IAF pilots were directed to cease the attack that would have threatened the fragile ceasefire. As a compromise, Israel struck a radar station near Tehran, far from the originally planned targets, said the Post.

On Tuesday, after the ceasefire was announced by the US president, Israeli forces alleged that Tehran fired a missile at Tel Aviv, an accusation Iran vehemently rejected.

However, despite clarification from Iran, Israel had vowed to respond with more strikes in Iranian cities.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House before departing for the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) summit on Tuesday morning, Trump rebuked both Israel and Iran, saying that both sides “violated the ceasefire”.

Using a four lettered word, he said, “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f*** they are doing, you understand that?”

“Israel, as soon as we made the deal, dropped a load of bombs the likes of which I’d never seen before, the biggest load that we’ve seen. I’m not happy with Israel … I’m not happy with Iran either, but I’m really unhappy if Israel is going out this morning,” a visibility angry Trump stated.

Following the statement, he wrote on Truth Social on the same day that Israel is not going to attack Iran, adding, “the ceasefire is in effect.”

The conflict between Iran and Israel began when the latter, on June 13, launched strikes in the former’s cities, killing its top commanders and nuclear scientists.

Israel said that it wanted to remove any chance of Tehran developing nuclear weapons. Israel itself is widely assumed to have nuclear weapons, which it neither confirms nor denies.

Iran says its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes only. Iranian officials have repeatedly said they do not plan to develop nuclear weapons but will pursue its right to nuclear energy and research.

Bahawalpur university lecturer arrested for alleged harassment, bribery

A visiting lecturer at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) has been arrested following allegations of attempted sexual harassment and bribery, according to a complaint filed by a female student from the IT department.

The FIR, registered at Baghdadul Jadeed Police Station, states that the accused, Ahmed Mahmood, called the student to his residence under the pretence of helping her improve her English paper marks from 40 to 85.

He allegedly attempted to harass her at his home and demanded Rs50,000. The student raised an alarm, prompting the lecturer to flee through the back door.

The incident was first reported to the Chairperson of IUB’s anti-harassment committee, who then escalated the matter to Vice Chancellor Professor Kamran.

The university responded by terminating the lecturer’s contract and barring him from entering the campus.

“The university will fully cooperate with the police in the investigation,” said the vice chancellor.

The accused has been taken into custody, and police have initiated a formal investigation.

  • India create unwanted Test record after defeat to England

India create unwanted Test record after defeat to England

The Indian cricket team created an unwanted Test record after losing to England in the first match at Headingley, Leeds, on Tuesday.

Despite scoring five individual centuries across both innings, the Indian team failed to win or draw the match, becoming the first side in the 150-year history of Test cricket to lose after such a remarkable batting performance.

India batted first and put up a massive 471 runs in their first innings, followed by 364 in the second. In reply, England scored 465 runs in their first innings and successfully chased the 371-run target in the fourth innings, finishing at 373 for 5 to win the match by five wickets.

However, the defeat was marked not by the individual brilliance of Indian batters but by the unprecedented outcome, as no team in Test history had ever scored five centuries in a single match and still ended up on the losing side.

India’s first innings saw centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal (101), Shubman Gill (147), and Rishabh Pant (134). In the second innings, Pant scored another century with 118 runs while KL Rahul added 137. Yet all this effort went in vain as the bowlers failed to defend a large target in the final innings.

Before this, the highest number of centuries by a team in a losing cause was four. That happened almost a century ago in 1929, when Australia lost to England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground despite scoring four centuries.

There have also been 11 instances in Test history where a team scored three centuries and still lost. However, India’s feat of scoring five and still losing stands out as a new and unfortunate first.

  • ‘She refused to meet me’: Umar Hayat’s shocking reason for murdering Sana Yousuf

‘She refused to meet me’: Umar Hayat’s shocking reason for murdering Sana Yousuf

Umar Hayat, the man arrested for the murder of 17-year-old social media influencer Sana Yousuf, has confessed to his crime in court.

The 22-year-old admitted that he acted out of anger and a desire for revenge after Sana refused to meet him.

According to media reports, Umar Hayat appeared before Judicial Magistrate Saad Nazir on Tuesday, where he recorded his confessional statement under Section 164 of the Pakistan Penal Code. “I wanted to meet Sana, but her constant refusal drove me to the point of rage,” he told the court.

Hayat further revealed that he first went to Sana’s house hoping to meet her and brought a birthday gift as well. “I waited all day, but she didn’t come out to see me and told me to leave. Even the gift I brought for her was rejected,” he stated.

According to the statement, on June 2, Sana asked him to come again, but the meeting didn’t go as expected. “I was furious. In a fit of rage, I broke into her house and shot her twice in the chest,” Umar told the court.

The murder took place inside Sana’s residence in Islamabad’s G-13 sector on June 2. According to the FIR filed by Sana’s mother Farzana Yousaf, the attacker entered their home around 3:15 PM. He was described as medium-built, wearing a black shirt and checkered trousers. He went straight to the room where Sana was sitting and opened fire with clear intent to kill.

Farzana and a guest at the house, Latifa Shah, were present and witnessed the incident. They rushed Sana to the hospital with the help of neighbors, but she was pronounced dead after receiving critical gunshot wounds to her chest. Sana’s body was later moved to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for an autopsy.

Sana, who hailed from Chitral, was a popular figure on social media. She had over 800,000 followers on TikTok and nearly 500,000 on Instagram. Her videos, which featured lip-syncs, lifestyle clips, and outings with friends, regularly received hundreds of thousands of views. Just hours before her death, Sana had posted her final video showing the teenager celebrating her birthday at a restaurant in Islamabad.

Police arrested the suspect during a late-night operation in Faisalabad. He had been on the run since the murder. Known by the alias “Kaka” on social media, Umar was traced through CCTV footage and technical tracking. The police have also recovered the weapon used in the crime.

Initial reports and witness statements suggest that Umar and Sana knew each other personally. Sana’s aunt confirmed this when she told investigators about overhearing their conversation moments before the shooting. She recalled Sana telling him, “You should leave now, there are cameras here. Let me get you some water.”

Police officials confirmed that the motive was personal. Sana’s repeated rejections and refusal to accept Umar’s gift appear to have triggered a violent response. The murder has caused a wave of grief and outrage on social media, where Sana’s followers continue to demand justice.

The case remains under investigation as authorities work to uncover more details about Umar Hayat’s background and the events that led to this tragic killing.

  • Women Against State Pension Inequality: UK Fairness Fight

Women Against State Pension Inequality: UK Fairness Fight

Millions of women in the UK are fighting back against what they see as unfair treatment in the state pension system. The Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) campaign highlights how changes to the pension age, with poor communication from the government, have left many 1950s-born women facing unexpected financial hardship. This grassroots movement is not just about money, it’s about justice, accountability, and the right to be informed.

As their legal case gains momentum, their story is sparking global attention, including in the U.S., where retirement rights and pension reforms remain pressing concerns for older generations.

What Is “Women Against State Pension Inequality”?

The phrase “Women Against State Pension Inequality” refers to a campaign led by women born in the 1950s in the United Kingdom. These women formed a group known as WASPI to protest changes in the UK state pension age that deeply affected their retirement plans.

Over 3.6 million women were impacted when the pension age increased from 60 to 66, but many were not properly informed. This sudden change created financial hardship, loss of income, and disrupted lives. Their fight is not just about pensions; it’s about fairness, communication, and accountability.

Why This Matters Even in the United States

Though this is a UK issue, Women Against State Pension Inequality resonates globally. American readers can relate to the concern: How do governments treat retirees, especially women? In the U.S., Social Security remains a hot topic, and movements like WASPI shine a light on how overlooked groups can demand justice.

The Root of the WASPI Debate

Between 1995 and 2011, the UK government gradually increased the state pension age for women to equalize it with men. But the key issue was how this change was communicated.

Many women said they received little or no notice. Some only discovered the increase when they were already approaching retirement age. This left them with little time to prepare financially.

The WASPI debate breaking news today revolves around whether these women should be compensated for the poor communication and the hardships that followed.

The Legal Fight: A Landmark Moment

In 2024, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) confirmed what campaigners long argued: the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) failed to communicate the changes properly. Thousands of women were unfairly affected.

However, the DWP rejected the recommendation for compensation, saying they disagreed with the ombudsman’s findings.

In response, WASPI took the battle to the High Court.

A Breakthrough in 2025: Costs Capping Order Approved

Now, in June 2025, there’s a major update. The High Court granted a costs capping order to WASPI. This means:

    • If WASPI loses the case, they only have to pay up to £60,000 in legal costs.

    • If the court sides with WASPI, the DWP must pay up to £90,000.

This decision is crucial. Without it, the campaign could have ended, not because of justice, but because of legal bills. Angela Madden, chair of WASPI, said this step gives the group the security to keep fighting without risking total financial collapse.

    Public Opinion Favors WASPI

In early 2025, a WASPI poll showed strong public backing:

    • 74% of people think women deserve fair compensation.

    • 76% support giving Members of Parliament a vote on the issue.

This isn’t just a political fight; it’s a human one. Many see the campaign as a symbol of standing up against injustice, particularly for older women often overlooked in policy-making.

What Is the WASPI Compensation Calculator?

As more people become aware of the issue, they want to understand how it affects them personally. That’s where the WASPI compensation calculator comes in.

Though not an official tool from the UK government, some independent platforms and campaign pages offer estimated compensation figures based on:

    • Year of birth

    • Date of retirement

    • Lost pension income

    • Impact on savings and employment

These tools help women see what they could be owed if the courts rule in WASPI’s favor.

Broader Implications: A Call for Global Pension Reform

The WASPI campaign sheds light on how governments need to:

    • Be transparent when changing laws that affect livelihoods

    • Provide proper notice to citizens

    • Design fair remedies for mistakes

This case is now becoming a global conversation. Women in the U.S., Canada, and across Europe are watching closely. Could this UK battle become a blueprint for others facing similar injustices?

    Challenges Still Ahead

Despite the court’s support in capping legal costs, challenges remain:

    • Funding for continued legal efforts is still a struggle.

    • Government resistance means the fight won’t be easy.

    • Time is running out for many women already past retirement age.

Angela Madden warned, “We now have the certainty we need to press on, but the costs of fighting this case remain very real. This is the fight of our lives.”

What’s Next for Women Against State Pension Inequality?

The High Court will now proceed with reviewing whether the DWP’s decision not to compensate was lawful. If WASPI wins, it could lead to:

    • Direct compensation payments

    • Political pressure to revisit pension reform

    • A historic legal precedent for future claims

This moment may be the turning point the movement has been waiting for.

Final Thoughts: Justice, Not Just for the UK

The campaign led by Women Against State Pension Inequality is a reminder that ordinary people can hold powerful institutions accountable. It proves the importance of transparency, respect, and fairness, values that cross borders.

As the WASPI debate breaking news today continues to make headlines, the world watches not just with curiosity, but with empathy.

Whether you live in the U.S. or elsewhere, this story speaks to anyone who has ever felt the effects of government policy without having a voice in it.
