Grantchester Viewers Share Their Feelings on Tom Brittney Replacement

The ninth season of the ITV drama Grantchester has sparked a lot of buzz lately. This series premiered on Wednesday. It is on air with Rishi Nair introducing the new character, Reverend Alphy Kottaram. Kottaram is the third actor to bring this village’s character to life after Tom Brittney’s heartbreaking exit as Will Davenport in last week’s episode. Tom Brittney wrapped up his filming for the series and is set to make his exit from the show. However, the episode will not only feature the character during his final appearance but still offer some gripping storylines in store for the audience.

A new episode recap from Radio Times shows, “Grantchester has a new vicar in the form of Alphy Kottaram. However, Geordie manages to get off on the wrong foot with him. The pair soon find themselves teaming up to investigate the murder of a local landowner.”

The other characters viewed Will as such a beloved character in the series that some viewers questioned the strategy behind the new vicar. Some wondered how the show would continue without Will since the new vicar wasn’t able to gain the love of all the fans.

Social media did have mixed responses about the new vicar. While others seemed apprehensive about the character’s change, several delighted over Tom Brittney’s absence. It made them miss the character of Will.

Despite missing numerous appearances in the newer episodes, Tom Brittney is still expected to deliver a spectacular performance in his final appearance. This transformation is bound to leave viewers feeling melancholy as he can never return to his ecclesiastical duties. Unfortunately, this decision has disappointed many excited fans.

A user wrote on X, “I am still missing Will. Things are not the same without him, but yes, Alphy is growing on me, and it is hilarious #Grantchester.”

A second user confessed, “I do not dislike Alphy at all. It’s just hard for me to come to terms with Will not being here. I’m sure I will; it is just that I am still in denial that he is gone.

Most of them: “We are all missing Will,” and “I don’t think I will ever get accustomed to life without Will for a while!”

“I’m sorry, Alphy is fine, but bring Will back! It just isn’t the same without him!” said one fan. However, some quickly embraced Alphy, dubbing him a “lovely addition.”

‘He’s my junior’: Ahmed Shehzad opens up about ‘issues’ with Babar Azam

Pakistan cricket team opener batsman Ahmed Shehzad has opened up about his issues with former captain Babar Azam.

Shehzad recently appeared on a podcast with Ahmed Ali Butt, where he shared his thoughts about not being part of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and his issues with Babar Azam.

“Babar Azam is my junior, and I have no personal issue with him. However, I think making him captain was the wrong decision. In Pakistan, decisions are made based on performance, but no one checks if the person has leadership qualities. PCB selectors often hide behind one player,” he said.

He claimed Babar mostly performed against weaker teams. “When the pressure increased, big teams started visiting Pakistan, but their main players didn’t come.”

Ahmed criticized Babar’s captaincy, saying, “Babar has played four ICC events, but no one talks about his performance in those tournaments. My criticism is based on numbers, not personal grudges.”

He also accused Babar of keeping his friends in the team despite poor performances, saying, “For example, Abrar Ahmed was performing well now, but earlier, Shadab Khan was being kept in the team despite underperforming.”

Ahmed further said, “In ICC events, eight players dominate the team, which led to Pakistan losing matches. They silence criticism by dropping players temporarily and then bringing them back in the next series.”

He concluded by saying his main issue with Babar Azam and PCB is unfair decisions.

Babar Azam has been under criticism since the ODI World Cup 2023 after a spare of poor performances. Shehzad had spoken against Babar during that time on his YouTube channel and national television.

Marital discord has hit yet another Indian cricketer as rumors swirl that former batsman Virender Sehwag and his wife Aarti Ahlawat have separated after 20 years of marriage.

  • Google glitch removes Joe Biden from list of American Presidents

Google glitch removes Joe Biden from list of American Presidents

A recent glitch on Google temporarily removed US President Joe Biden’s name and term in the White House from search results for the prompt “US Presidents” on Thursday morning.

The glitch was fixed around 2 am Eastern time, but the news quickly made headlines internationally. However, the exact duration of Biden’s name being excluded from Google’s history remains unknown.

According to the search results during the glitch, newly-elected President Donald Trump appeared to have served as the last two presidents of the United States before the sequence reverted to its original order, listing presidents Obama, W. Bush, Clinton, and others, respectively.

The removal of Biden’s term was first noticed by BlueSky users, many of whom speculated it was a deliberate move by a big tech company to appease Donald Trump.

The incident caused outrage in the liberal-leaning community on BlueSky, where users saw it as part of a broader issue involving tech companies allegedly displaying political biases.

Google has not commented on the glitch that erased Biden’s name and tenure.

Simultaneously, in recent days, millions of Meta users reported their accounts were automatically following President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance without permission, with no option to unfollow.

Meta’s Communications Director Andy Stone defended the platform in a post on X.

“People were not made to automatically follow any of the official Facebook or Instagram accounts for the President, Vice President or First Lady,” Stone said on X.

He added, “Those accounts are managed by the White House so with a new administration, the content on those pages changes.”

However, in a post on Threads, he wrote, “It may take some time for follow and unfollow requests to go through as these accounts change hands.”

On Monday, January 20, leading tech industry figures, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, attended Donald Trump’s oath-taking ceremony as the 47th President of the United States.

International media reported that they joined their “First Buddy,” Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and X (formerly Twitter), who is a vocal supporter of Trump.

Minor boys missing since a week from Karachi

Five-year-old Aliyan and six-year-old Ali Raza, who went missing from the Garden area of Karachi on January 14, have not yet been traced by the police despite an extensive search.

The children went missing from the area when they were reportedly playing outside their house.
The Garden police has said that they have registered a case of kidnapping and started an investigation, yet after more than a week the children have not been found.

On January 21, DIG-South Syed Asad Raza told the media that the process is taking time because the Garden Town area of Karachi is highly populated and acquiring CCTV footage is an uphill task.

Three suspects were detained for interrogation. However, the news of children being kidnapped by a couple was dismissed as the investigation revealed that the footage was of another family.

Later, police searched the Lyari River, passing through the Garden area, and checked various tanks, wells, and surrounding bushes, but no trace of the missing children could be found.

SSP Arif Aziz told the media that the investigation is going on. “All possible steps are being taken to search for the children. Various CCTV footage has also been obtained and the search is underway.”

Moreover, with the help of technology, the police has concluded that the children were taken away from the Dhobi Ghat area of Garden and their last location was traced at Kashti Chowk in Lyari while geo-fencing of the area is also being conducted.

Three minor boys going missing within one week has raised alarm bells in Karachi.

Seven-year-old Sarim went missing on January 7 and was found after 11 days on January 18 from a water tank in a high-rise building near his home.

Police stressed that they did search the place initially as well.

The autopsy report of the child revealed that he was subjected to sexual assault before getting murdered.

As per the details, the victim had suffered 12 different injuries on various parts of the body and “all are antemortem (prior to death) except one injury”.

The report also outlined that although the body was found after 11 days, the examination of the body confirms that the boy had died “approximately four to five days” before.

Recent reports have raised concerns about the investigating skills of the police, as it became clear that he was alive at least a week after his kidnapping.

  • Here’s how much players might pay for GTA 6

Here’s how much players might pay for GTA 6

Industry experts believe that Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), the highly awaited sequel to 2013’s GTA 5, could cost between $80 and $100, breaking the usual price range for video games.

Matthew Ball, CEO of Epyllion, predicts the game could set new pricing trends with the increasing development costs.

In a recent report on gaming trends for 2025, Ball explained that video game prices haven’t kept up with inflation over the years.

For example, even a $70 price for GTA 6 would make it the “cheapest” game in the series in real terms since the inflation-adjusted average price for the franchise is about $91. He said, “The combination of growing production costs and slower player growth could make GTA 6 a key moment for the industry to raise prices.”

GTA 6, expected to launch in fall 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, could become the biggest entertainment release ever, with predictions of $3 billion in first-year revenue, including $1 billion from pre-orders. Analysts believe the game’s popularity and scale might justify a higher price.

However, this has sparked debate. Michael Douse, publishing director at Larian Studios, pointed out on social media that while inflation might support higher prices, developers must ensure their games meet player expectations and are worth the cost.

As game budgets grow and the industry slows down, GTA 6 could pave the way for higher prices.

Whether Rockstar will go beyond the current $70 standard is still uncertain, adding to the discussion about what modern games are worth.

  • Reason behind Bilawal’s sudden weight loss revealed

Reason behind Bilawal’s sudden weight loss revealed

People have been speculating about the possible reasons behind Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s drastic weight loss. However, journalist Imtiaz Chandio has revealed the cause.

Citing a source from Bilawal House, Chandio took to X (formerly Twitter) and disclosed that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is using insulin after being recently diagnosed with diabetes. He added that the Chairman PPP’s weight loss is a result of using insulin.

“Bilawal Bhutto Sahib [Chairman PPP] has not lost weight on his own. Rather, he has been diagnosed with diabetes. His weight has decreased due to the use of insulin. May Allah grant them good health,” the journalist wrote on X while sharing the Chairman PPP photo.

Diabetes is a long-term condition caused by excess glucose, a type of sugar, in the blood. There are two main types of diabetes: Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is far more common than Type 1.

Recently, Bhutto’s weight loss became a topic of widespread discussion among social media users, with some even comparing him to Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor.

In January 2025, during his appearance at the wedding of Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah’s daughter, netizens first noticed Chairman PPP’s physical transformation and praised his fitness.

An X user, while sharing a latest picture of Bhutto, wrote, “Bilawal lost so much weight. Future PM Bilawal Bhutto is literally looking more handsome than Ranbir Kapoor.”

“Mashaallah! Our boy is way more handsome than Bollywood actors, so please stop comparing him with Ranbir Kapoor,” another user commented while complimenting Chairman PPP’s stunning look.

One wrote that Bilawal is gearing up for the next Prime Minister with a heroic look.

Some netizens, however, opined that Bhutto underwent surgery to achieve such physical transformation.

A netizen wrote, “Diabetes SE itna jaldi wazan Kam ni hota is NE bariatric surgery karwai ho gi jis ma stomach Ka size Kam Kia JATA hy us SE Boht jaldi wazan Kam ho JATA hy. (Diabetes alone doesn’t lead to such rapid weight loss. He must have undergone bariatric surgery, which reduces the size of the stomach, resulting in significant and quick weight loss).”

  • Fire-hit Hollywood awaits Oscar nominees, with ‘Emilia Perez’ in front

Fire-hit Hollywood awaits Oscar nominees, with ‘Emilia Perez’ in front

This year’s Oscar nominations will be unveiled Thursday in an announcement delayed by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, with transgender cartel musical “Emilia Perez” expected to lead a highly competitive field.

Voting deadlines had to be extended this month, as the US entertainment capital and home city of the Academy Awards was devastated by multiple blazes that have killed more than two dozen people and forced tens of thousands to flee.

Nominees will be unveiled virtually, and in subdued circumstances, as a town that typically fixates on the Oscars race has more pressing matters to handle.

Even so, the glitzy Oscars ceremony itself is still set for March 2, and the stars and studios who have spent months and millions of dollars campaigning will learn if they have made the coveted final shortlists.

“Emilia Perez,” French director Jacques Audiard’s Mexico-set musical, in which a narco boss transitions to life as a woman and turns her back on crime, seems certain to pick up best picture and multiple song, score and sound nods.

“It’s going to rack up a big number,” Pete Hammond, awards columnist for movie trade outlet Deadline, told AFP.

Nominations for its star Karla Sofia Gascon — who would become the first openly trans acting nominee — and Zoe Saldana appear set too.

Their more famous co-star, Selena Gomez, has been criticized for her Spanish-language dialogue and could miss out.

Even so, the Netflix film could become the most nominated non-English-language movie ever — a record held by “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Roma,” each with 10.

“It’s so strong in all of the categories that it could get nominated in,” said Hammond.

Competition atop the nomination list will likely come from Vatican thriller “Conclave,” epic immigrant saga “The Brutalist” and show-stopping musical adaptation “Wicked.”

Sci-fi sequel “Dune: Part Two,” indie darling “Anora” and Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” are also expected to do well.

    – ‘Political statement’ –

Academy Award nominations are fiercely contested by Hollywood’s biggest stars, and this year’s race for best actress appears especially intense.

A-listers like Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman went all-out with their performances in “Maria” and “Babygirl,” respectively, but many pundits believe they will miss out.

Comeback queen Demi Moore charmed the industry with her Golden Globes acceptance speech for body horror-satire “The Substance,” and seems a lock for a nomination along with Gascon and “Anora” star Mikey Madison.

“It’s those other two slots that could go any which way,” said Hammond, pointing to Brazil’s Fernanda Torres (“I’m Still Here”) and Britain’s Marianne Jean-Baptiste (“Hard Truths”) as popular alternates.

“Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo is also in the mix.

For best actor, Adrien Brody (“The Brutalist”) is a firm favorite, along with Timothee Chalamet (“A Complete Unknown”) and Ralph Fiennes (“Conclave”).

This year could finally bring first Oscar nods for rom-com veteran Hugh Grant, who is radically different in horror “Heretic,” and former 007 Daniel Craig, for literary adaptation “Queer.”

Or the Academy could ruffle a few feathers in the new White House by selecting Sebastian Stan for his unsettling transformation into a young Donald Trump in “The Apprentice.”

The movie drew threats of lawsuits from Trump’s attorneys, particularly for a scene in which the new US president is shown raping his wife.

“It could be a political statement” to nominate Stan, said Hammond.

    – ‘Lost homes’ –

The Los Angeles wildfires have cast a somber shadow on this year’s Oscars, and the chaos and displacement they caused could also directly impact Academy voting patterns, Hammond said.

“We know so many members that have lost homes (in Los Angeles)… some will just not have voted” at all, said Hammond.

He predicted the upheaval at home could increase the influence of the Academy’s many overseas voters, who often opt for more artsy fare from outside of the US-centric Hollywood orbit.

“They’re the furthest away from it, and it will be business as usual for that group,” he said.

“Though I don’t particularly think ‘Emilia Perez’ needs any help,” Hammond added.

The nominations announcement will begin Thursday at 5:30 am (1330 GMT) in Los Angeles.

  • Javeria Saud vs Ahmed Jahanzeb: Who wrote Ishq Murshid OST?

Javeria Saud vs Ahmed Jahanzeb: Who wrote Ishq Murshid OST?

Who deserves the credit for the iconic Ishq Murshid drama OST, Tera Mera Hai Pyar Amar?

The controversy began when Javeria Saud claimed on Subh Ka Samaa that she wrote the hit song but was denied proper credit for her work.

At HUM TV’s 20-year celebration, Tera Mera Hai Pyar Amar singer clarified that he not only wrote the lyrics but also composed and sang the romantic track for Ishq Murshid.

Jahanzeb referred to himself as the ‘one-man army’ behind the viral OST of Ishq Murshid.

As the controversy continues, fans are confused about who is telling the truth. But one thing is clear: Tera Mera Hai Pyar was the most popular song of 2023, and people all over the world loved it.
