A family dispute in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district turned deadly when a man allegedly opened fire inside a house in the Township area, killing his wife, two women and a 14-year-old boy, police said.

As stated in the First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Township police station on December 21, the suspect entered the house and began shooting, causing panic and chaos within the household. A 17-year-old boy was injured during the incident and was taken to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Law enforcement officials reported that the suspect, who resides in Bizan Khel, fled the scene immediately after the shooting, leaving behind four deceased individuals. The FIR indicated that a case has been registered under Sections 302 (murder) and 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, while police teams launched operations to locate and apprehend the suspect. Authorities mentioned that several locations were being searched as part of these efforts.

“Further investigation into the incident is underway,” Township police said, terming the attack as a shocking act of domestic violence that wiped out multiple members of the same household.

This incident follows a recent case in Lahore where police discovered a disturbing family crime involving a senior police officer, who confessed to have murdered his wife and teenage daughter.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Usman Haider Gujjar, who was in charge of the Kahna police circle (investigation), had previously filed a kidnapping report about two months ago, asserting that his wife and 19-year-old daughter had gone missing, only to later reveal that he had committed the double murder.

The occurrence of these two incidents has reignited discussions regarding domestic violence, unresolved family conflicts, and the growing pattern of brutality occurring within homes.

  • Lahore beats New York, London, Washington on safest cities index

Lahore beats New York, London, Washington on safest cities index

Research platform Numbeo’s 2025 Crime and Safety Index shows that Lahore has become one of the safest cities in the world, a significant improvement over the state of crime in  second biggest city of the country.

The city has surpassed big metropolises including New York, London, Washington, D.C., Berlin, Istanbul, and Paris to rank 37th on the Global Crime Index and 63rd among the safest cities worldwide.

This is the first time in Lahore’s history that such a significant drop in crime has been documented. Stronger accountability within the law enforcement system and more efficient policing techniques are credited by the report for the drop.

The city’s reported crime rate fell significantly from 67,585 occurrences over the same period last year to 34,091 events between April 2024 and April 2025.

While ordinary robberies decreased by 55 percent, serious crimes, such as murder and robbery, decreased by 64 percent.
The report also highlighted notable improvements in curbing vehicle-related crimes:

Motorcycles thefts decreased by 33 percent.

Street snatching went down by 42 percent.

Car thefts decreased by 33 percent.

Other vehicle thefts dropped by 39 percent.

Following internal investigations, four SHOs were imprisoned within their own precincts, and more than 400 police personnel and officials were disciplined internally for misconduct.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran attributed the success to data-driven policing, stating that crime hotspots were identified through technology and reinforced with additional manpower and resources.

“We identified crime hotspots using technology and boosted human resources and equipment in these areas,” he said. “Advertised criminals and habitual offenders were arrested and incarcerated, and merit-based appointments gave opportunities to young officers.”

Kamran also emphasized the significance of political backing and autonomy in implementing reforms.

“Political support and freedom from external pressures enabled us to make and enforce clear policies,” he said.

“Our future goal is clear: to make Lahore one of the safest cities globally.”

Women strangle Multan faith healer after years of blackmail

Two women have been arrested for murder after strangling a Pakistani faith healer with a scarf after years of being blackmailed over videos he took of them, police said on Monday.

The women told police they had turned to Riaz Hussain for help in removing black magic curses but he instead took compromising videos that he threatened to release.

“During the investigation it was found that Riaz Hussain had been sexually harassing women for a long time under the pretext of spiritual healing,” police in the city of Multan in Punjab province said in a statement.

The women, with the help of their cousin and another man, strangled the faith healer with a scarf before dumping his body.

The four have been arrested for murder, police said, adding that a fifth man has also been arrested.

Faith healers are revered by some communities in Pakistan and their orders are followed devotedly, allowing for widespread exploitation.

A pregnant woman was brought to a hospital with a nail hammered into her head in 2022 after a faith healer said it would guarantee she gave birth to a boy.

Another woman died the following year after being tortured with sticks for days by a faith healer who claimed to be following an exorcism ritual.
